Josh Pate on Reggie Bush getting his Heisman back well well well Reggie Bush got his Heisman back yesterday and as expected everyone ran to the corners and everyone started to shout the same talking points they've shouted about this thing for like a decade and a half I supported this and by this I mean him getting his trophy back and I'm normally a stickler for the rules so sounds kind of dare I say hypocritical a little bit it's not I've been pretty consistent on this thing but as of late there was even more reason to support this so remember a couple of months ago we did a show someone had asked about this I think and we we took a viewer question and I did a a segment on the show about this and I said he ought to get his Heisman back and I kind of you know hinted about why I thought that would be well then Johnny Manzel spoke up Johnny Manzel I think was the Catalyst of making this happen and when Manzel spoke up and said yeah I'm not I'm not participating in this thing anymore until Reggie gets as high man back we did a show the next night and I said this is going to happen because Johnny Manzel was the first front-facing Heisman Trophy winner that said I'm out till he till you make this right I'm out behind the scenes it kicked over an ant bed and here's what else happened what else happened is you learned not many people were really ever standing in the way of this it's just in a room full of Max Kellerman on Johnny Manziel speaking up jellyfish someone finally had a spine and Johnny Manel spoke up and then you start to realize hold up the entire premise behind this guy had having his award stripped has been deemed to have always been illegal that's why I never had a problem with him getting the trophy back it'd be one thing if he ran a foul of NCAA rules or U UCA USC ran a foul of NCAA rules and then the rules changed what actually has happened in federal courts from sea to shining sea is they've said no your rules were always illegal as in they violated federal law that's why we have class action lawsuits being heard in courtrooms across the country right now because it doesn't matter whether the rule was at one point and then they changed it if that was the case I'd say no you broke the rules as they were in the day and so it doesn't matter that it's legal today like if I got busted doing 70 and 45 back in 2005 and now that road is a 70 mph freeway well I don't get to retroactively take the ticket away but if a federal court tells me it was always illegal for that road to be 45 M an hour it always should have been 70 well then I got a case Reggie Bush always had a case and this wasn't so much an anti- NCAA thing it was a pro commmon sense thing so Manzel steps up and says what he says and then you know I understand the logic behind people who think that this is messed up because in your mind you see it for what it was on the surface you see a guy broke rules and he was punished and now because the rules have changed we're going to retrofit what Awards should and shouldn't have been handed out to today's rules well if that was the case I'd be with you I don't think that's the case and remember this Reggie Bush never apologized that's what I'll remember about this whole thing the Heisman trust welcomes him back they have an entire PR Blitz yesterday not two weeks after they um wished OJ Simpson and his family the best on the official social media accounts and I'll just let you think whatever you want about that the Heisman Trust says G how do we clean this egg Max Kellerman on Reggie Bush returning off our face let's welcome Reggie back and so Reggie is welcomed back with open arms and did you notice something do you notice what I noticed yesterday as Mima would say there was ner a dissenting voice hardly anyone if anyone at all that had anything to do with the award spoke up and even offered a contrarian Viewpoint it was like unanimous consent let's welcome him back which makes you wonder why did it take so long it took so long because a lot of people are scared to speak up even when common sense is right there on the tip of your tongue you're scared to speak up you can think what you want about Johnny Manzel I'm telling you the attitude that dude has should be a lot more prevalent in the college football space CU there are a lot of common sense things in the college football space and in greater Society but I live in this bubble that should be done or should have been done a long time ago that aren't done and you look around and you say what's stopping it powerful people speaking up basically taking a stand is what's stopping it that's it and that's all now the question that's being asked in the aftermath is oh well where does it end what what now are we just going to are we just going to retroactively remove any penalty that was ever handed out well here's a good barometer if courts say that the rule you broke was always illegal it's a pretty good start Ohio States guys for example the whole tattoo gate which at the time was you know the biggest scand in the history of of organized Sports now looks so stupid to some of us it looked stupid at the time you know trading uh getting tattoos for free how dare they well as best I can tell limiting them from doing that was always illegal as well best I can tell so I know we were just in Columbus Ohio like 48 hours ago so I wish we were up there right before this news broke because that was the takeaway that a lot of my Buckeye folks had and you should have it and there are other plac across the country where you've had guys popped you've had banners taken down from your ceilings you've had Awards removed from the facades of your stadiums and in retrospect it's been because guys broke rules that were illegal which begs the question if it was illegal was it ever a rule it's not for me to decide I guess [Music]
