hey everyone and welcome today we'll be talking about the movie long legs fun fact this movie takes place during the satanic Panic which was a moral Panic consisting of unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse in the 80s and 90s this film came out in 2024 and stars Michel Monroe Nicholas Cage and Blair Underwood and was directed by odd good Perkins so without further Ado let's get right into [Music] it long legs follows Lee Harker an FBI agent investigating a string of family murders done by an occultist Serial Killer without actually being there this film is a detective Ault horror film it has similar Vibes to hereditary black phone or Zod IC I feel like I put scary movies into two main categories ones that rely on jump scares and ones that rely on suspense this fear of the unknown and what is to come which is something I felt like this movie relied on I didn't watch any trailers going in so I went in thinking it was going to have spiders as the main culprit and then when the film started I said oh this is a good old detective murder mystery and while I was partly right I was missing a lot the movie had me invested did and I really felt like the ' 70s and the '90s were great time periods to bounce back and forth between in this movie and I love how they changed the screen size to let the audience know what time we were in Micah monrell plays Lee Harker and she did such a great job of playing this character who is a weird one which we come to find out is because of the deal with the devil that her mom made but she was so interesting to watch like she did such a good job of just being very weird especially like in the scene where we see her superior's daughter invite her to her birthday party and instead of just like answering the question like a normal person she just like pauses and like freezes and makes the situation 10 times more Awkward than it needs to be in the 70s we see a youngly and at first I thought this was a different character completely and then I realized as the movie went on it was actually the same person and then some of the pieces started to fall into place now that I knew that she had met long legs before I love seeing her detective skills and how she not only deciphered long legs messages but also found a pattern among the killings I'm glad even after she found the truth she still tried her hardest to stop what was going on and not join her mother side note her house was very creepy like it's in the middle of nowhere and there's all these giant Windows it was just it's a no no for me Lee's mom Ruth was giving hippie Vibes when we met her and she was creeping me out which made made me have a feeling something was off and I was right I get doing everything you can to save your kids but she really took it to the next level she gives me that vibe that she was just drugged out of her mind and then seeing her house I was like this is just creepy at first I thought she might be a Target until I saw the way that she acted while Lee was there and then I knew that she was an accomplice it's crazy that she was the one who was used you know to get into people's house and how long legs was in the basement just hiding and helping her choose these different victims I'm glad she died in the end because she was far too gone to save Blair Underwood plays Agent Carter who is Lee's boss and he gives a stellar performance as his agent who understands Lee and her ability to know things but also understands that proof will be needed in order to actually lock up this killer I thought he did a good job of being laidback for most of the film and then he was able to switch to the cre be an unsettling possessed man at the end of the film Kieran shipka has a small Cameo as Carrie the only Survivor of long legs and her role was small but she really left an impact I feel like she was the key to really piecing together the puzzle because not only did she survive a whole murder that was put on by long legs but she also had just been visited by him even though she was a victim she was also part of his plan and was one of the reasons that longlegs was able to move forward with his playing this movie nailed gender rolls in this film for the timeline that they were portraying even though the '90s don't seem that long ago gender rolls were completely different and I felt like they now did with how Lee interacts with her boss but also um his own family Dynamic this is a reason why I also think the murders were overlooked at first because it just seemed like a family issue not a serial killer at the beginning of the movie A chose Leon a case with her partner when he gets killed violently shot in the head and for me that solidified that she was a great detective because she not only figured out that the house is where you know this killer that they were looking for is but then was also able to find them in the house after they killed her partner and it also kind of helped me think about what this film would focus on which was the detective element I love the detective elements and knew some weird stuff was going on but I would have never guessed it was something involved in Satan I just have to mention the girl who's the cashier because she was probably the bravest person to not only look long legs in the eyes but also call him weird and survive I just love the overall annoyance in her I don't have time for this attitude my favorite part of the movie was Nicholas Cage as long legs I couldn't even recognize him and he was so creepy and unsettling he somehow kept getting creepier and creepier up until he decided to bash his own head in Nicholas did such a good job and shout out to the the makeup Department as well his performance had me on the edge of my seat and I was trying to figure out what his motives were and what was next I also think it's cool how marketing was able to keep his characters look a secret before the movie came out long legs is a horror movie that's super suspenseful and will have you on the edge of your seat the cast is great and the time period was perfect to show this mysterious case and show what's truly behind it thank you for watching my
