Disney Wants DIRECTV To Help It Fight Fubo

welcome back to cord cutting today where we break down some of the biggest stories happening in the world of cord cutting including today Amazon is discontinuing a popular Fire TV model that was one of my biggest recommendations for TVs in your kitchen we'll tell you what it is Disney is reportedly demanding Direct TV supported in its lawsuit against fubo or fubo lawsuit against Disney I should say and Cable's viewership continues to fall we'll tell you how little bit of actual TV watch in happens on cable networks nowadays these stories and a whole lot more coming up in a quick second first with Amazon has reportedly discontinued the echo apparently I should say the Echo Show 15 with built-in Fire TV now this was an echo show that had a 15-in screen could be mounted on the wall could be stood up as a stand as a TV originally released exclusively as a digital smart home display later to help improve sales they added a Fire TV through a software updated and you could pair it with a Fire TV remote and use it as a TV in your kitchen I actually thought this was great I kept thinking maybe we'll get one we never did but if you wanted a small TV for your kitchen that was HD had all the apps from a fire TV would have and was still a smart speaker with ability to ask you play music ask you questions and have an information display screen this was a great device seemed like a not a lot of people wanted it was cost over $200 wasn't cheap it's been out of stock for a while and Amazon has it listed as no idea when more or if more will be coming back in stock this is very typical for Amazon when they're discontinuing a product they don't really announce it they just kind of let it fall out stock and then they say we have no knowledge of when it's coming back now we reached out to Amazon multiple ways to get comment on this Amazon did not reply to our request for comment about this story but it does seem that the Echo Show 15 has been discontinued you can buy new or new through some third-party websites out there but Amazon not they do have renewed used versions they come with a refurbished warranty on it uh on Amazon I'm sure that will continue until they run on stock on that also are you an echos show 15 owner did you like it leave me a comment let me know like I said I always thought this was a great device cuz it was a TV for your kitchen 15 in is a good size for that it was HD but it was also a smart home speaker that allowed you to do all kinds of other stuff ask it questions play music and more um like like any Amazon Echo device you could um use the touchcreen to control it but the Fire TV remote was really the best way to do it did you like it there's um been a long time now as people try to find that best new TV kit um for your kitchen a lot of people will use those not everybody but it is a pretty popular place to put a small TV or a small display leave me a comment I want to know did you use one did you like it I always was tempted but never pulled the trigger on it so leave me a comment let me know what you think of it all right jumping forward over the weekend we um covered the news that Disney owned channels went dark and Direct TV and Direct TV stream one little note here on Direct TV satellite only Disney owned ABCs went dark on Direct TV stream all ABC channels went dark that's because on streaming Disney um negotiates a massive streaming deal for services like YouTube TV Direct TV stream and others and because of that they represent all the independent ABC stations they all went dark on Dre TV stream but not on Sally but in its negotiations according to Dre TV they said on the last few hours direct Disney approached Direct TV with a possible extension of Disney own channels but Disney wanted Direct TV to agree that in no way was Disney operating in an anti-competitive Manner and that if they would ever go to court it would happen in California not New York where they basically said the judge who's currently overseeing the lawsuit from fubo against Disney Fox and or's Discovery doesn't really understand things is how I'm going to sum that up basically they didn't want to go in front of that judge but the big issue here is that Direct TV is basically saying that Disney wants them to come and basically say that Disney is not acting in an anti-competitive way basically supporting their case against fubo lawsuit and an effort to try to stop any potential legal claims against them I thought that was very interesting I've never heard of that before a lot of people are like whoa wait a minute um that could um raise questions with a judge but also with the Department of Justice which is something that Direct TV in their statement said hey you know and consumer rights groups and the Department of Justice should be very concerned about this Direct TV also later said that they are in for the Long Haul on this basically I've said this in our video we did on Sunday about this this does not feel like a short-term blackout this feels like a blackout that could last a while maybe even into the start of the NFL season we'll have to wait and see but Disney making some pretty um strong demands of Dre TV with that leave me a comment let me know what you think is it shocky that Disney would do it this kind of feels like maybe one of those things that a lawyer did you know on notes I'll put a link to a story on how to request your $20 credit Link in the shows down below all right viewership for TV is continuing to fall for traditional cable networks and now it represents just 26.7% of all TV viewership comes from traditional cable TV broadcast TV and streaming are dominating but streaming is really the main one there that people watch their content from I I've talked about this many times but people after they List cost is the number one reason that they cancel their cable TV subscription list not using it that much increasingly cable TV subscribers are subscribing to streaming services also why well you can't get everything on cable for all the talk of I'll just go back to Cable well you can't watch Sunday night or Christmas Day I should say NFL football you can't watch Thursday NFL football there's a growing number of shows and sporting events that you need streaming to do and that's slowly pulling people more and more than streaming you got exclusive shows Paramount plus is the exive home of new Star Trek shows most Star Wars Marvel and other stuff is going to Disney plus the list goes on and on well with that increasing these people's time is being spent on these apps not on cable even when they're cable subscribers as seen by only 26% of 26.7% to be exact of viewership of um across all platforms is now on cable according to a report from neelon does that surprise you did you think it would be higher or lower I want to hear from you what you think but to me this kind of is the reason why we're seeing a continued growth why the remaining holdouts on cable are slowly transitioning because you can't get what you want there it's expensive and increasingly even if you are a cable subscriber you're here you're watching these because that's where the new content you on with who watch is let me know if that was part of one of your reasons you canceled cable TV all right question of the day do we have too many streaming services now you know if you watch me for a long time that I've talked about the fact that there are more streaming services on the market now then the market can support there are over 100 subscription services that are paid many more that are free and with that there's just so much it's hard for people to support the average American according to our surveys three to four streaming services at any given time with that there's just too many out there for everybody Sports one of the reasons why I think a loss services are unprofitable they're not getting as many eyeballs while cable Executives have kind of come to this realization are slowly condensing streaming services down to smaller and smaller packages hey try I hear what happen what we're increasingly seeing is like War Brothers discovery recently announced that it's Boomerang streaming service which shut down it was a streaming service dedicated to Classic television shows and it's moving that content over to Max now you're going to have to be a Max subscriber we've heard similar reports of things happening with Paramount plus with Showtime merging pment plus and others it doesn't make sense for these big companies to have four five or more streaming services when they need to be profitable it makes sense to move everything into Disney plus everything into max everything into peacock or Paramount plus now that doesn't mean we're going to get rid of all these of course there's all these independent ones like Netflix Amazon the list goes on and on I still think there's going to be a lot selection I do believe in the next few years we'll see a consolidation shutdown as streaming services struggle to become profitable at some point they're going to run out of money or companies are going to just continue as reports have said saying hey we're Paramount we're going to kind of put all of our Paramount stuff on one app for one price with everything rather than having it spread across multiple
