kinds of kindness is the latest film by writer and director yorgos lanthimos who recently made the mindblowing Oscar winner film poor things and some of you may know how much I loved that film from last year at the lff 2023 this is the same filmmaker who also made dog tooth the lobster the killing of a sacred deer and the favorite Lanos returns with right collaborator timus philippo who also wrote Some of Lanos earlier projects the film is about three stories the first one being about a man who seeks to break free from his predetermined path in the second a cop questions his wife's demeanor after her return from a supposed drowning in the third and final a woman searches for an extraordinary individual prophesies to become a Reen nowed spiritual guide if you have ever seen a Yos Lanos film before you know it's going to be strange funny disturbing and sometimes challenging kinds of kindness has all of that and it honestly feels like Lanos has gone back to his classic old roots in authentic storytelling where the story is not simple and it's not going to be for everyone however it has the benefit of Unforgettable and fascinating moments to think deeply and discuss with others I found this this film to be wild and I liked it because I have a weird taste in film making and I don't care I'm going to start with the heavy stuff and that is what I think the story of kinds of kindness is about based on my interpretation but please don't expect me to give you a full answer I am sure there are many other perspectives out there of what this film is about nevertheless art is subjective and that's what's great about it when it comes to feelings and opinions in story telling what came to my mind first and I picked this up in all of the three stories in life some human beings try so hard to be perfectionists and we try so hard to be accepted by others we look up to and cherish whether it's someone in a loving or professional relationship by achieving acceptance we could and also would do anything for that person we love so much whether they ask ask for it or even tell we could maybe be doing some of the most messed up things in life out of our kindness for the person we love these messed up things could be I don't know cutting off your finger what is more interesting to me is that I felt this in not just one but two characters motivations out of them wanting Acceptance in all of the three stories I would like to add based on what I just said that kinds of kindness does a brilliant job of having characters who are so fleshed out by their developments plus excellent Dynamics so that's my rough and brief explanation of what I believe kinds of kindness is about and if you don't agree with me that's fine it's a film that needs more than one view in and who knows what I will get out on my second watch anyway let's talk about some of the least heavy aspects I thought the score by jkin fenrick who also did poor things was great it felt a mixture of being haunting and over-the-top it particularly works when you expect something Dreadful is going to happen to a character or them doing something towards someone else by their motivations the film is beautifully well shot I loved the uses of establishments tracking and Dolly shots within the lighting was neat and the use of colors brought a lot of personality to the tone speaking of the tone it's again strange disturbing and funny and I felt all of those feelings all the way through the production sets and locations felt massively rich and supported all of the characters establishments of who they are the cast is pretty stacked and all of the performances were amazing Emma Stone was marvelous as always as the characters she plays as and just her and yogos Lanos work together so well Jesse plemons is killing it this year with Civil War and now this film that's one him best actor at the can film Festival plens is unreal in this film he shows a lot of subtlety and robotic which is an acting style Lanos enjoys doing plus he has so much deepness that you can tell he gives everything in kinds of kindness as an actor William defo Margaret quy Hong chow and Hunter schaer all show a lot of captivating robotic and depth by their performances my only issue with this film is some of the dialogue felt heavy and may have gone a bit too mad that it was a lot to process specifically when someone like Emma Stone is talking to William defo about a dream she had and I felt the film would have done a better job of cutting to the visuals of showing a mixture of showing and telling and not just on telling but still I liked this film it's not for everyone if you like challenging Arty and authentic films that don't always take themselves seriously and don't provide a straightforward answer I think you will get something out of this and be satisfied just like I did but if this is not your cup of tea I think you're going to hate it if you're interested though you can check it out now in UK Cinemas I'm going to give kinds of kindness four stars out of five thank you so much for watching I hope you've enjoyed this video please let me know your thoughts about the film in the comments below and feel free to watch another video I appreciate the like subscribe and support as always until next time
