japat town is an a loving and strong Community who will without a doubt rally among our families we are one town and we are Jtown well Fox 45 News is following breaking news out of Harford County a 15-year-old student is dead and a 16-year-old is in custody accused of shooting him inside a japat toown high school bathroom the sheriff is criticizing Maryland's Juvenile Justice laws especially the child interrogation protection act I hope my frustration is clear that this legislature has handcuffed police um there are families of every other student in that school and the and the parents of the shooter who have a right to know why we all stand here today and why there's a person who has been shot in one of our schools and we are not allowed to ask the person who committed that act because of this crazy legislature we have in this state good evening I'm Kai Jackson now Fox 45 News has been on the scene of this shooting since the news of it broke around 1:30 this after afternoon we have live team coverage of the situation box 4 ADV Keith Daniels is taking a closer look at the debate over it school resource officers in Baltimore City he'll have a live report on that coming up at 10:30 Jeff AEL takes a closer look at the child interrogation protection act and the frustration we've heard from police and prosecutors for years our team coverage begins with Vincent Hill he's been live in japa town all day Vincent what do we know tonight well well kind much different scene here at the school now all quiet but around 12:30 of course frantic people running and we know a 15-year-old is dead a 16-year-old in custody all what police describe because of a fight in the bathroom in Harford County Friday a franic call about a shooting Harker County disuss all monitoring Personnel active a in a jat town High School when responding officer ERS arrived they found 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant inside the school shot at least once one juvenile mail got one to the belly it's going to be on the far right side of the school through the front doors the victim flown to a trauma center the suspect a 16-year-old on the loose but he didn't get far Riley Court someone's trying to get into the apartment building it's a male sub he hurt someone a resident calling him in to police thanks to our community members the suspect in our case was apprehended within minutes Harford County Sheriff Jeff gayor on what may have led to the shooting and more on the alleged shooter this was his first day although were the four days into the school year this was his first day in the school uh and this altercation apparently took place in the bathroom that resulted in a single shot the 16-year-old no stranger to law enforcement we've had calls for service that have involved him in the past I do know that at least 10 calls since 2022 involving a team this deadly shooting coming just 2 days after the deadly shooting at a high school in Georgia heartbroken and my heart go for goes for those parents Miss Irma is a former Harford County school bus driver and has a niece who attends japat toown high school that when you go to school you you safe but if in school you're not safe how parent going to be dealing with that telling your student go to school St and say momam I'm going to die or I'm there but it's not safe are we going to be doing home school and according to the Harford County Sheriff Jeff gayor that 16-year-old will be tried as an adult in this case for now we're live at japat toown high school Vincent Hill Fox 45 News I'm Kai Jackson thank you for watching here's another video to watch also please take a moment to subscribe to our Channel e
