hey y'all I'm so glad you joined me I recently watched the movie Rebel Ridge on Netflix and I got to tell you this is one of the better Netflix movies I have seen in a very long time Rebel Ridge is a story about an ex- Marine who travels to a small town in order to bail his cousin out of jail he sells all his possessions in order to get all the money needed for bail only to realize that the town he's traveled to is really corrupt and the money is actually stolen from him by the cops our main character is very under the radar he's played by Aaron Pierre very well I might add Aaron brings this sort of intelligence to the role you know that this xmarine is very strong you know that he has a nature where he will kill you but at the same time he also has a gentle and calm demeanor so I think Aaron was able to capture that very very well where you're also in the mindset of this xmarine you know everything that he's been through you know he has a background that is fairly lethal but you also are under the impression that he doesn't really want it to come to that if it doesn't have to I really enjoyed the character development here with this character just largely due to the fact that in the beginning of the movie you he's portrayed as just this very mild-mannered very calculating person he's not in town to cause any trouble unfortunately trouble finds him by way of these very corrupt cops when they steal his money he's really devastated he actually tries to go the legal route and he wants to do the right thing and he's just trying to get his money back he's just trying to bail his cousin out of jail unfortunately that doesn't go the way he plans and then he's forced to take matters into his own hands and with that said this character is literally the definition of f around and find out because he was calm he was cool he was collected he was very demure and these cops they literally they effed around on my guy and they found out so first two things I noticed really about this movie One the pacing we find out very early on within maybe the first 5 to 10 minutes that these cops are corrupt we find out what they're about and the audience quickly realizes okay so this movie is going to be based largely on the fact that this is a very corrupt town uh and even though we're introduced to that very early on and further things down the line are revealed about the history of corruption in this town the movie doesn't drag out very much in my opinion for it being over 2 hours long it doesn't seem overdone I know a lot of times when when a certain aspect is portrayed over and over or these Revelations are happening bit by bit it seems to drag out this movie did a really good job of keeping the the pacing right keeping the tone very suspenseful so the audience is kind of really wondering what's going to happen next there's actually other characters that are introduced that you you feel for these characters you begin to develop the sense of oh man you know the whole town isn't corrupt it's mainly just the cops and there are other people who kind of have wanted to be whistleblowers but they can't it's a very small town and you know how these things go you blow the horn on something big like this and you either lose your job or um you end up dead okay so I know that I said there were two things I noticed about this movie right off the bat so the second thing was the location we are only really visiting three settings in this entire movie we're either at the courthouse or we're at the police station or we're in the woods so apparently our main character lives in the woods I don't he's very nomadic which I guess makes sense I mean he is an ex-marine it's just like the woods is is his house it can be very difficult to execute this type of setting where you only have like three locations throughout the entire movie because the audience can get very fatigued just going from one location to the other and back fortunately though this movie does a really good job of keeping the audience member invested enough to where you're thinking okay what's going to happen here oh wait this is Central to the plot you're not really thinking like hey shouldn't wasn't it just night time shouldn't the courth house be closed by now weren't we just in the woods how did he get where's his bike you know like you're not thinking about these things you're more invested in the revelations that are occurring you're invested in the characters that are developing over time so talking about characters the main antagonist in this film he's the chief of police and again it's a tiny town so he's a chief of like nine police and he's played by Don Johnson and I really think that this role I mean Don Johnson he he completely captured just the embodiment of this just manipulative corrupt this guy that's been in office or not in office I guess but he's been in his position for a really long time nobody bats an eye at the things he does and it's just I just wanted to just see him get his ass beat so many times it's like you stay and get your ass beat you stay and get your ass beat you can stay and get and that leads me to probably my favorite aspect of this movie and that was the action sequences like I feel there could have been a couple more cuz we really get to see Aaron Pierre as our main character just lay the smackdown on these corrupt cops uh there's a specific sequence at the end that's really good you're you're wondering what's going on they've got guns they have weapons uh he uses you know a main character uses his fist I think it's it's played out very well and we we get a sense like a little taste of like justice being served overall I really enjoyed this movie I enjoyed the consistency of the tone I like that there was a little bit of humor kind of scattered throughout just to lighten the tone a little bit but overall I would classify this as a suspenseful Thriller I'm going to give this movie four stars it is a recommend I would definitely watch it again all right y'all so if you haven't done your good deed for the day it is not too late you can actually hit the Subscribe button
