Quad Wheelchair Singles Ceremony | Guy Sasson v Sam Schroder | Australian Open 2024 Final

wellar and uh welcome to Kia arena for the presentation of the Australian Open men's quad wheelchair singles finals and what a great week of competition we have seen culminating in today's Final but please a massive Round of Applause for a man who now has a hattick of wins and one of our rising stars in the competition both of our competitors today please a huge round of applause would also like to thank the Australian Open major sponsor in Kia and of course all the associated sponsors as well for their continued support of the event also please welcome our dignitaries on court including Australian Open wheelchair championship tournament director Daniel O'Neal Australian Federal Minister for sport The Honorable anakah Wells MP wheelchair referee Scott Elburn assistant wheelchair referee Philip Goodman and our chair umpire Annis rassi from Tunisia please a big round of applause and now I'd like to welcome our chair umpire to come up and receive the chair umpire's plate from Daniel O'Neal well done Annis putting up a great fight and I know he had plenty of support as well here at Kia Arena we're seeing him emerge through the ranks no doubt about that I'll invite our runner up today guy SU to come up and receive the trophy from Minister [Applause] Wells hi everybody um I want to First congratulate Sam for a wonderful um final great match you deserve it you played better and congrats hopefully like you said hope I hope we're going to have more finals together and hopefully next time it's going to be on my side but congrats well done um there is a few uh people I would like to thank first of all I want to thank my coach of fre Lan that uh came here left left her family came all the way here to Australia spend the time with me uh I couldn't uh be here without her so thank you very much of free I want to thank also my wife my beautiful wife uh she's at home watching this uh final and if I won't mention her name I'll be in big trouble probably won't be here next year so uh my wife a I love you thank you very much for supporting me for my four kids that the the they called before the match they said you must mention our name so more am meit shy and lead I love you thank you I did my best I tried this time it didn't work but I'm going to keep on trying and eventually I'm going to get it so I love you I want to thank all of you guys that came here and showed your support uh came here and watched wheelchair tennis and see how great it is um really uh this is something amazing you don't see it in in every tournament so thank you all thank you so so much for coming and one last thing I would like to say that this is um I did as much as I could and this is for our country for Israel and congratulations to guy for his Runners up position and being a part of the final now we turn our attention to a man who has won it in 2022 2023 and now 2024 a hattrick of wins from the Netherlands please welcome Sam schroer to collect his winners trophy from the minister [Applause] wow it's um amazing to uh to win this title for the third time in a row but first of all I want to uh thank GE for a great final together I want to congratulate you as well you had a great tournament so far um and I think yeah we'll play a lot of uh a lot of finals in the future against each other um congratulations to you and your team and secondly I want to thank uh my coach who's here with me as well uh we had a very tough offseason and uh it it paid out so we're really happy with that and um I think we'll keep it for next year as well uh thank you to everyone who came to watch today it's amazing to see the support you guys give um of course mostly ke but also me as well in a good point it was amazing to feel the atmosphere here today uh thank you so much for uh supporting wiie tennis and of course I also want to thank my sponsors but also I want to thank uh everyone who made this tournament possible at the Australian Open thank you guys for having us it's a pleasure to be here again uh and I I already look forward to coming back next year thank you well done to Sam schroer who has gone back to back to back for a hattick of wins here at Melbourne Park and well done to our runnerup as well please thank all of our dignitaries a big round of applause for everyone here including our Minister lovely to have you as well and of course all of the people involved behind the scenes too our winner and runner up will now have some photos taken and all is in Readiness for our next final here on Kia Arena and that is the men's singles wheelchair final which will be on court in about 10 or 15 minutes time thank you very [Applause] much [Applause] a very special occasion Sam schroer three in a row and Nick boy spoke well yeah he sure did and you know he saw what it meant to him you know to be able to win here again and such in such a tough opponent um you know Sasson just got in the quad division in the last 18 months and you you know you expect a lot of finals between these two coming up soon that was a great final here today it's got that feel about it that guy Sasson is on the up here he just fell a little short today Sam schroer he said he put in a a really big off seon and it certainly has paid off three in a row yeah that's something special to achieve hard to achieve and what a great day here for the Dutchman had a lot of support as did Guy Sasson and this is what all the hard work is for getting your name on the Grand Slam trophies he's done it six times now great chro caderie in this sport really supportive of each other there
