Magnitude 5.2 earthquake hits Kern County, shaking felt in various parts of California

this morning scientists are analyzing an area in Kern County struck by a 5.2 earthquake it rattled parts of the Central Valley and reached as far south as Orange County action news reporter Anna T is at the live desk where she's tracking the latest on the earthquake Anna good morning good morning Jason Jessica the US Geological Survey says so far it hasn't received any reports of Damages but it's still monitoring the situation now we know that the earthquake that struck part of the Central Valley last night was a magnitude 5.2 looking at this map here it shows you where the earthquake happened it struck just after 9:00 on Tuesday night just Southwest of Lamont which is Northwest of Bakersfield and it led to dozens of aftershocks taking a look at this video here shows a camera on the Santa Monica up here rattling it pretty hard you can see where there's people walking along the boardwalk and then these hanging lights could even be swing seen swinging on the ceiling now we did ask the USGS how long we could be feeling aftershocks from that initial earthquake the numbers are still really high for smaller earthquakes again there's a there's a about the order of a 20% chance for a magnitude five or greater Aftershock from this earthquake but that number will begin to change as time goes on looking at this calr camera here this is video from I5 heading south on Grapevine the aftermath of the earthquake caused a large Boulder to fall and block two of the four lanes of traffic that has since been been cleared however the CHP is advising people who are making their way through that area to be alert for any other hazards that could be on the roadways the USGS says that Tuesday night's earthquake is a reminder for all of us to check on our emergency plans they're also urging people to download the myshake alert app from the live desk Anna Tera Action News am live hey Central California stay up to date with all the latest news and weather don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe to abc30 action news
