Greg maddo pitched a beauty here today another Masterpiece if he didn't execute a pitch that he had set up to work perfectly I think the microphones around home plate heard his displeasure with himself he wanted that one I used to see the umpires do a double take thinking is he is he yelling at me or is he yelling at himself he was a perfectionist I wanted to be consistent felt like my stuff was like everybody else's stuff but if I could not make mistakes and out pitch the other pitcher then I felt I could beat him call strike three there's evidence of that control it's not a speed contest you know you're facing Randy Johnson you got to out pitch him you're not going to throw it as hard as him but you can out pitch him I'm Randy Johnson and I don't pitch like Greg Maddox how would you describe Greg physically uh I would just say that you wouldn't think that he's a pitcher and I and that's okay because I don't look athletic I'm just tall you know I everybody thinks I play basketball but I've always admired how he's pitched because uh it was the opposite of me I was a power pitcher you talk about blowing somebody away nothing fancy from 6'1 in Randy Johnson there was not very many people like him in the history of the game everybody kind of watched him pitch you know it was the madx factor the way he pitched he just made really good hitters look bad and he didn't have to throw 95 to do that we all know that pitching is about deceiving The Hitter if you can make all two or three or four of your pitches look just like your fast ball then you're kind of on the right track I was watching him how to set hitters up and what he was doing I couldn't even fathom doing those things it was like uh it's like a chess match
