who really won this race well Harrison Burton captured wood brother racings 100th Victory today at Daytona with the cozero sugar 400 Victory Parker Roff gave him an extra good push on that final overtime restart and Harrison Burton got out in front of the field all he had to do at this point was block the advances from the eight the eight goes High Burton blocks the eight goes low Burton blocks but there's contact made with the back bumper of Burton and the front bumper of Kyle Bush that push and that contact in NASCAR's eyes forced him below that yellow line also typically when you see an infraction for that yellow line rule a driver is using it to advance this position since he was the lead car there is no advancement of position to be made but ultimately in NASCAR's eyes he was forced below that yellow line by that contact from Bush and they deemed it a fair race Harrison Burton was your winner of the coke Zer sugar 400 flips of Daytona are nothing new but it's scary every time it happens that that was definitely the case for Josh Barry when he went for one hell ofor hide during the Coke Zero sugar 400 coming to the White Flag before for the overtime at RAR Kyle Bush gave a massive push to the bumper of Austin cnri that went wrong syndric went sideways and so did Josh Barry but the number four is the one that flipped on its roof and then went nose first into the inside wall it was definitely a relief to see Josh Barry get out of the car give a thumbs up he was released from the infield care center and he is okay heading into this race to try to prevent something like this NASCAR made it mandatory for all cup cars to have a right side rear window air deflector AKA a shark fin matching the one on the left side rear window they added this following the analysis of the Cory Le Joy flip at Michigan to hopefully keep these cars on the ground obviously the number four went Airborne but we did see instances where syndric and even Eric Jones who was involved in the incident almost got Airborne but did not which was a positive we also saw moments before that in a separate incident with nine too where Michael mcdal was leading that high line with cnri and Barry behind Barry gave cnri a massive push uh that momentum could not be controlled by the number two car got into McDow spun him and he basically just lobed the nose of Joey Lano and almost did a barrel roll himself um getting part of the car in the air when they connected with the number 22 but luckily Michael mcdow's car did not flip totally rotate in any way which was really good after this weekend NASCAR is only taking one car back to the R&D Center and that is the number four for further evaluation following that really scary flip here's the thing though that we all know we all recognize but I feel like I have to reiterate flips are inevit in the sport it's a product of going fast um they're not a welcome site but it's the nature of the Beast and we can't stop physics from doing what physics is going to do naturally but we can try our best to keep these cars safe which I think NASCAR's done an excellent job with with the Gen 7 car elevating it every single time we have an in incident to make sure that these cars are as safe as they could possibly be for these drivers we can also continue to test these cars after incidents like this which is what they're doing with Josh Barry's car to see if there's any way to make these cars more aerodynamically sound to prevent or at least lessen the impact of a flip or a crash or something like that to keep these cars on all four tires so back toback races Michigan to Daytona we've seen cars flip and of course with recency bias we're going to be talking about this storyline quite a bit I would also argue that it is just alone the frequency in which we're seeing these gen 7 cars flip is causing the alarm many people have pointed to the underbody of these cars as potentially being the culprit as to why they're getting Airborne so quickly because it's a solid under body really there's nowhere for the air to escape so they're going to get airborne kind of like a kite lifting off the ground that's what I acquainted to with all that said NASCAR is going to study the number four to see if there's any changes that can be made but yeah scary incident for Josh Barry going on his roof and going nose first into the barrier e
