as well is the goalkeeper Thomas we mentioned in the open and if you're Syracuse you want to start this game off strong it took until the 87th minute to get that goal last time out against Colgate so it's all about starting off strong here tonight Syracuse already maintaining possession as was sort of expected this is Syracuse team that has become much more respected ever since the national championship season teams like to come to Cent New York specifically to Syracuse to try and make things that a little bit more difficult thread goes cross to the back post and it headed away just in time and Niagara can Sprint forward on the Counterattack Spa sprinting through Midfield is Cameron roach on the far side that cross to the back post kog is there Syracuse quick on the scene and Gabe team was actually excited about to come play on this beautiful surface something that we know the Syracuse Orange team absolutely adors that was a physical play early on we're expecting a lot of physicality in that match and kukan just SL hies in and he'll get a yellow card for it as well so just like that not even 2 minutes in the first card order absolutely less than 2 minutes in the Armenian already in the referee's booking pocket Nicholas kukan is a player head coach Ian McIntyre said that he's the spearhead of the team he starts out the press his work R is terrific the goals will come for him after not a fantastic season not a terrible season by any the imagination had a good streak of scoring three goals in three games middle of last season a good opportunity here for I'm interested to see how that's going to change as he can have to lay back a little bit is Niagara going to be able to maybe play a little bit more calmer in the defense because you don't have kuki which secured the victory for the orange it was certainly a game that coach being McIntyre said well whoever scheduled that game away first game of the season the complete idiot but but he knows it's always a tough game down in Hamilton New York and it was proven so but it also shows the character of this team this young team as well early in the early going able to get a victory even in tough circumstances instate matchups are always really difficult you said this earlier but you know that Niagara is playing it's aame tonight you know that you have a chance to come into an ACC venue and do something special so especially when it's a New York matchup things get a little bit more physical and a lot more intense throwing on the far side for the orange Syracuse have done well in season openers they've won four [Music] straight interesting stat as well is that they haven't w at home on a Sunday since 2022 and for head coach Ian McIntyre he knows there so many new players like you mentioned in the open Adam the only thing that's the same about this team is the Jersey they are wearing but he's excited is's excited for the journey to go on with this group is a very young group very athletic group he says should be very exciting in the first corner of the game taken by one of those transer Nathan Scott was taken short squil Ming his cross towards the center Barry had to come out and there was a collision and a little bit of concern here for the Niagara goalkeeper as he remains down that's always scary in front you have a high ball coming in everyone is just watching the stopped and in the early going he knows how difficult this season could be and but that is the nature of the beast in NCAA soccer these teams are changing every single season it's never the same team we even saw that last year with Syracuse so many transfers that came in the single freshman actually on the field tonight Ezra Whitman the rest of the newcomers in 2023 were transfers [Music] High free kick that's a great job by omes coming back you just see the burst of speed that he has he was a couple steps behind but ended up getting to that ball first and winning possession beautiful night some NCAA soccer here in beautiful Central New York there's not a rivalry as such between these two teams but there's certainly a level of physicality and pride involved especially with the two coaches Bill Bole andian McIntyre played with each other at Harwick for three seasons boiled a year younger than Englishman [Applause] McIntyre those were some pretty good Harwick teams as well back in the days just won division they made a couple deep runs in the NCAA tournament Bill Bole he's considered coach Mack a friend and also has nothing but respect for this Syracuse team and the program that has been developed especially over the last few seasons and last decade of success in the ACC and of course that 2022 national championship this is a Niagara team so experienced 21 turnes in total for head coach Bill Bole it's also a squad of many different nationalities and characters coach Bill Bole said there's always a different song being played in the locker room before every game it could be some of the Spanish music some some for the Irish guys as well Challenge on kukan by Alberto Sanchez excuse me once again Nicholas kuki in the spearhead of the attack the Spaniard for Niagara making a good challenge to force the throway stay stay here goal now Scott can't get the cross in and will win a throw it wasn't quite far enough to be a corner Ming looking for space z is trying to play out of the pressure go crashes it wins a yet another throw on the near side for the orange it's just really interesting to see some of the tactics with this Syracuse team early in the season last year we would see a lot of the time just a quick throw in and cross to the middle right now it seems like they're trying to be a little bit more creative and work with small passes Syra Syracuse from the free kick it was taken quickly it will be a corner kick early going Syracuse putting on the pressure Ming will take this corner kick be mut in international cross to the near post flicked on off the crossb at the back post still balls alive and it will go out of play it will be a corner on the far side fantastic header at the near post they can't get any closer than that just off the crossbar from kukan this is a Syracuse team that almost led the nations in corner kicks last year but struggled sometimes to put it into the back of the net and such a good chance early on in this season kukan free header at the near post as well what an opportunity for the orange just under 9 Minutes gone Amber the Syracuse with the corner kick one cross in Barry came to punch headed back in by Whitman only as far as the Niagara defense but they can't clear it away and hand ball is then called at Midfield this time on Whitman turn to the referee with frustration in the end it will will be a purple Eagles free kick Jamie Barry after that scare in the early moments so back on his feet and seems to be okay it' be a huge Miss for Niagara if he was to get injured sophomore goalkeeper from Dublin had a fantastic gear last season four clean sheets in total in 16 games and one of the captains this season all the three of the captains for Niagara this season are not seniors they're juniors and sophomores Jamie Barry the sophomore Co B is the first time that he's had a captain be an underclassman foul called against Niagara there once again chimra or mes even in the early going he's got that pace that look he's always seems to be one step ahead of whatever opposing player yeah he's the type of player who you kind of think how is he always around the ball and that's exactly what you're looking for he's a Defender who scored the goal in the last game because that's just what he can do he's always around the ball Centra on the far side nicely one back by Cutler De Jesus Agra still have possession great battle there on the far side they still have his Center on the ball comes back out wide Spa Hungerford good challenge for n that ball will Tribble out of play it'll be a goal kick and that will go against Landon Hungerford this is a a matchup that goes back quite a few years the first ever match up between Syracuse and niaga was all the way back in 1969 Syracuse have had the upper hand 18 to4 there's never been a draw in that time three wins on the balance as well for Su Sy have won all but one of the last 15 games in this series here's Ming going up against Talsma The Freshman who did ever so well to get it away Jeremy Talsma in that previous match up against U Albany nothing he could do it was his own goal that was the Difference Maker in the 9th minute but his head coach had nothing but Praises for him and he was frustrated for his player that he that it was that sort of situation kukan Aqua shot deflected wide and it had to be syracus will have yet another Corner that's a great opportunity for the orange we saw them try and build through the middle there we've seen so many chances down the sides but a great chance there for aqua he gets the shot off takes a great touch to get a little bit more space but then right there a great job to just deflect it away and another corner for the orange already Syracuse led the league on led the leag ACC I should say in corner kicks ranked third in the nation for Corners per game last season over seven and a half G McIntyre he knows how valuable the corner kicks are likes to get the those crosses on the on the wings get another one here that one cross to towards the center and Barry did ever so well to hold on to it looks to break away for Niagara Kicking It Forward and one back by [Music] su that one's a foul called against Syracuse against kukan he was just backing into his Defender was trying to make the argument that he got jumped over top of but if you back into the guy first then you're in the wrong you have to make sure the defender has the right away as well it's always what referee say you got to jump straight up and especially when you're backing into a player always succumb to any sort of foul and kukan already needs to be careful got that yellow card in the second minute red go [Music] attempt went straight up in the air and Ricky Shay's off of Nathan Scott and a throw in for Niagara on the near side we haven't really seen niagar sustained possession yet in this match we've seen whenever they get the ball usually it's in the Counterattack they go straight towards the net let's see if they may be try and slow it down and just control for a little bit here go cross to the center the ball is loose that shot from distance oh my goodness that is a phenomenal save from Tomas Hut how about Tomas Hut he saved the game last time out in his first ever start for Syracuse and keeps this one even at nil nil early on goes full just into the air punches It Wide an unbelievable shot and even better save Jan LCA Del priori the first time effort from distance forces a fantastic save from the senior Thomas Hut in his second appearance for the orange and B boy will feel that his team were inches away from taking the lead they have a corner in dead that one's cross towards the center the head away from Leighton comes as far as Mata spena flicks it up over the top one heading player but not far enough or may say calls for hand ball from the Niagara players referee looks the other way Bill Bole with a fair bit of amusement on that on that decision he might not be happy right now but this is about as perfect of a first 15 minutes for for Niagara as possible flick over the top Syracuse able to win it back Ming flicking it all the way over ball is loose Aqua has kukan it was just behind him kukan taking the space ahead of him still kukan Nicholas kuk in deflection and that will trickle wide and'll be another Syracuse Corner that fifth there's the creativity that you want to see from kukan takes the shot from the outside and just forces the corner kick we've already seen the opportunities on the corners if you have a chance to just get another one why not take those shots from outside be aggressive fifth Corner as I mentioned for Syracuse kukan already putting on the pressure leading the forward line already hit the crossb today that corner was not put in the right position and Syracuse will have to reset we're under half an hour to go in the first half here at Su soccer stadium Nicholas will and Adam gotkin with you on AC Network extra we've seen one spectacular save from Thomas H in the Syracuse net after a great shot from dran Luca Del porori moments ago we've also seen Nicholas kukan hit the crossbar from a corner both teams have come close but not close enough's went it back in Midfield Jim fber luking he's got a little bit of room Nicholas kukan Aqua fantastic save from Barry the ball still lose that shot again and another save from Barry Zak Ming with the second effort and jamy Barry the sophore how about that multiple unbelievable saves but this is the attack that you want to see from Syracuse build through the middle give yourselves those opportunities we saw early in the game the first 10 or so minutes they were keeping it on the wing we've seen so much success when they put the ball in the middle of the field two times Syracuse have tested Jamie Barry in the space of a few seconds this has been a cracking contest we still had 27 minutes to go in the first half plus 45 in the second the lawn filling up as well here as you soccer stadium that one's punched Away by Barry all the corner kicks have come relatively close to the 6yd area Barry has dealt with with most of them so far and as we get more and more Corner kicks on this side of the pitch everyone's starting to get more familiar you're all so close in tight in that situation we're starting to see a little bit of pushing and shoving I think everyone was expecting physicality in that this match and we've seen it so far played forward by Whitman I try and push forward here hard Challenge from Nathan SC and it will go against the [Music] played in the youth 17 World Cup for Canada he's been a member of professional youthmy for pretty much his entire life so he's someone who is used to playing with older guys he's trained with the best of the best before so he's someone who's used to this moment and I mean we've seen him Excel so far this season and in this match ball intented for squil it was a little too [Music] strong sun sets over beautiful Central New York Jamie Barry who's already been tested he's had six saves already his career high was against U Albany with eight only two away from that margin even at this early stage it's fair to say Syracuse have been have had their chances hit the cross bar once of for these two spectacular saves from Barry [Music] [Applause] I think Barry was expecting to see a high volume of shots in this match we were expecting Niagara to sit back but Syracuse has gotten a couple chances close to the net but even then Barry has had success Whitman loses out this time long ball over the the moment for niagar the only one forward is Felix kogler diagonal switch Red Gold his shot away well happily to join by head coach McIntyre on the sideline coach how would you judge the first 20 [Applause] minutes well hopefully we'll get to talk to coach mik in a moment but a little bit of chaos on the sideline after that challenge we make the Englishman not happy it wrong though or no look offense then on the counter when Niagara gets forward they're getting good shots on it I mean Tomas Hut pretty much saved Syracuse from going down one n early so if you're Niagara I think you could not be more thrilled with these first 23 minutes go did well there still running with it Fred go still tried to get better side of Landon Hungerford forces the throw on the near side he thread gold one of the grad students for Su played at Waldorf University and LMU I just than play Washington that head up from EZ Whitman inches away from the sophomore so close for Whitman in his first Collegian start as you said earlier he was the one freshman on the team last year coach McIntyre so excited about what he could do this season and what a chance there on the header just barely missed wide of the net but another good opportunity for the orange and if you're in McIntyre you just want to keep doing what you've been doing setting balls into the middle and eventually one of those has to find its way in sunley is a youthful and yes inexperienced feels of this team but there's so much Firepower especially at least from our vantage point you can see players are running after every B but then you have that experience as well with the liks of Sam L with the lights of G thread go to help mature them as well it's just the difficulties of college sports nowadays you got to try and manage the Freshman with the transfers lovely switch from say here [Music] [Applause] go red goal couldn't control that one but Syracuse will win the free kick and we'll have the first yellow card of the evening for Niagara Dominic cra cra excuse me Dominic CRA is a there's a player that head coach Bill Bo says that most coaches definitely don't like him because he gets stuck he makes those challenges that look maybe a little bit worse than they appear at least that's what he said but that one certainly worthy of a yellow cut on this occasion without a doubt a little bit too aggressive and just too late from Thomas Hut has kept it from one nil and multiple saves from Jamie Barry as well that cross to the middle but rman is there and Syracuse break through as Wiman New York Zone what a way to open your count for Syracuse well here's the youth it starts off with Ming sends the cross in after a little bit of nifty moves and a great job by Whitman to get on it after being a little bit frustrated with himself a couple minutes ago for missing ah header gets somehow that ball into the net with the angle a great job to open his foot and there was absolutely nothing that Jamie Barry could do about it so much power coming at him just perfect from Wiman comes from the city 4 and 1 half hours south but for New York's college team he's finally got his first goal after eight appearances last season Ezra women the only freshman in the 2023 class still an underclassman but making a big impact and with 20 minutes to go in the first half Syracuse lead Niagara crossed towards the Syracuse penalty area is easily collected by thas Hut now it'll be interesting to see how Niagara responds they went down 1 n in the first 5 minutes of their opener against U alony and then tied it up they also went down to 10 men later in the game while down and then tied it up so this is a purple Eagle Squad who was relentless who was going to continue to try and attack and even if they're in a tie game they're going to go forward I have to say Felix kogla is really strugg to get involved in the game number 33 the lead Striker for this purple Eagle Squad crossed in Nathan Scott with the hand in the back and will be a free kick to Niagara it's just difficult to get kogler involved when you're playing so far back we haven't really seen this Niagara team slowly build up at all it's send the ball far forward it's attack on a counter and so when that happens unless kogler is just there when the ball comes to him it's really difficult to get involved so maybe now we'll see a chance for Niagara on a free kick to slowly build up possession and after you concede a goal like that it needs to take a little bit time take a breath find a way back into it Syracuse on paper and and as well as what we've seen at the moment have been dominant they've had more of possession they've had more corners more shots but that one shot from Niagara did come Incredibly Close opportunity now from the free kick as well for the purple eagal ins side Felix kogo we just mentioned could see him get a little bit more involved isn't in the penalty era but has great service as well crossed in the header is cleared from Scott towards the corner flag Spina up against Nathan Scott goori now Brooks that ball over the top and had to be a crucial header because landed Hungerford was waiting at the back [Music] post kuking goal kick and that's why Niagra has been so passive to attack you see there they get caught forward and there's the danger of Syracuse behind if you give this talented Squad who has so much speed so much youth just room to move forward then they're going to attack they're going to make you pay and Niagara lucky that they did not give up the second there the crosses from Su have been Exquisite tonight as we mentioned Ezra Wiman missed a a glancing Header by air inches and yet another opportunity there from the cross that ball comes up into the stands and out into the parking lot new balls start tonight his first start of the season and has already made that impact Syracuse have done historically well when scoring for first last season when they did score for they were 62 and two so statistically at least that bodess well for Coach Ian MacIntyre last 15 minutes out of of the first half from Niagara perspective you try and go a little bit more all out or just try and keep it at one before halim I think if you go all out you give up the risk of Syracuse adding another because that's the worst possible thing going down two into the break we saw just a couple minutes ago when Niagara pushed forward they almost got caught behind so you know we'll see what they do here do they quickly go forward or build up we'll have to see that right now but the build up play gets faded out because Syracuse want it back ball over the top for kuki and lovely control Nicholas kukan comfortable save in the end for Jamie Barry and for Niagara there just three players in front of the ball usually they don't have any and because of it Kian has room in behind it's a perfect ball in and that's the danger here for Niagara Syracuse is so precise with those passes that if you send guys forward Syracuse will make it pay jery Tulsa surging forward but fantastic interception by Sam Leighton Now Syracuse can quickly come the other way Ming sending it forward and that one's cut out in the end this time by Kevin pay total of five substitutions waiting on the sideline for the orange that's what happens when you have 31 total players on the roster 28 ready and fit to go and one of the rule changes this year in men's soccer you only have six Windows to sub so expect to see this a lot these times where you're going to see Five Guys in and Five Guys out because you only have six times so Syracuse now other than halftime which doesn't count only has five more opportunities to subu In and Out so how do you manage that that's what these coaches are trying to figure out early in the season there's so many new things to college soccer this year that it's still a learning process for everyone Bren Smith Daniel burko Ernest B three of the five substitutions to come in as well as Christian Forte is also make making his appearance along with Ben Rose and black for Su when having five substitutions coming obviously there's a lot of fresh legs but these are guys who are still don't know how possibly even to work together especially having such big of a change is that difficult when coming into a a game and also from a team perspective the guys who are on the field when you have five guys coming in you think that's more of an advantage or a disadvantage I think it might help you out a little bit just because it's not just one new player in It's Five Guys who you imagine there's a reason that it's those five going in together that that crew brings something special but it's always difficult when you have so many new players coming in and for Coach McIntyre I mean you're subing Five Guys in in one game at one time because you got to trial them you have to see how players do in game environments cuz there's so many new guys Syracuse 11 shots to niagara's one six Corner kicks as well for the orange and we've seen Syracuse dominant on the wings and getting those crosses into thex is very very stereotypical of Ian McIntyre's offense likes to get numbers in the center to pick off any loose ends as well it's Forte jimo M take space ahead of him Rosen BL his first contributions of the day Christian 40 [Music] [Music] making the charge down the Left Flank and is able to cause a free kick that will be in a very promising position for [Music] SU R sth making his second appearance of the Season he comes from the MLS next Academy of New England Revolution only now on the right hand side his cross to the Box cleared away easily by the purple Eagles but yet again forcing another throw in on the near side going back to Bow though he's a player played Four Seasons at North Carolina also going an assist against Su last season and joining the enemy some might say here's Rosen BL for Su another throw it on the near side one of the things with bwa coming in is that Syracuse is familiar with him they already know everything about his game they liked him even back when he was in high school so even though a lot of these guys are transfers in they're not scoring and as a Defender he does such a great job of understanding when the right time is to move forward of course this goal came on a corner kick so he was already forward but we saw that with his goal in the last match Chi Amber the one who got that assist for chimra M's goal in the 35th minute good his service be abuse toq again that one's whipped to the back post H was up there but this time it couldn't be brought down by chimra omes but there he is again he he's all over the place every single time you look it'sa Syracuse love playing at home this is the they only had seven they eight oh excuse me they had eight multi- multi Go Games in 2023 seven of them were at Su this reminds me a lot of the opener last season against Providence they scored both the goals in the first half and both came within about 10 minutes of each other when Syracuse you see something they usually take advantage of it and score multiple in a short period of time that youthful energy on full display as well I haven't seen one Syracuse player walk or jog so far nagara could cause trouble here here's kogla once again well defended by the orange and they can break away too here Whitman tries to find Ben Rose lot more on the left that's exactly the bounce back that you want from a freshman you never want to start your Collegian career giving up an own goal but it just shows what he's got Aqua sprinting in behind up against pay Aqua shot directly into the palms of Jamie Barry that's what we saw in the first half Niagara pushed forward offensively and then there's just so much room behind Aqua had a great chance here he was Electric in the opener against Colgate and just couldn't get enough behind that shot Amy Barry just one save away now from his career high of eights seven total saves for nagura tonight Syracuse that single one and if you were with us for our halftime coverage you saw that fantastic save from Thomas Hut that pulls over the top aqua's run onto it still Aqua goes stays interesting to see the different backgrounds that all these players come from I you talked about it earlier with niagar and all the Internationals they have porori stays on his feet still Del porori Eagles played alongside Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre for three seasons was also an assisant coach at Michigan State Colgate and U Al before he joined Niagara in [Music] 2016 NRA getting more of locked in manages and also one of the most vocal on the sideline it's so interesting to just listen to him listen to what he's commanding out to his players it doesn't matter where you stand in this Stadium or where you sit if you're in the bleachers you're on the hill you can hear pretty much everything that coach McIntyre says it's just so interesting to hear what his commands are for his young players especially this season when there's so many guys who are new to the system kukan on the Press Jamie Barry sending it well forward the orange win it back AK was able to get the head and kian's onto it Nicholas kuki in fantastic Challenge from Jeremy Talsma The Freshman did win the ball Syracuse the Syracuse bench in front of us weren't too happy about it but it did seem like a completely clean Challenge from Ontario freshman definitely a little bit risky with the slide in the box but pretty much is about as perfect as it gets got the ball first and then kukan tripped over him afterwards he's a player that head coach Bo had nothing but kind was even and was really feeling for his player after he scored that after he conceded that own goal against YY on Thursday but it shows the confidence he has in in his freshman in the in the starting 11 has played full game so far today that was a foul on Andre Cutler De Jesus and he's remained down for a little bit and little slow to his feet [Music] played only one game last season his Z 14 minutes against bton this is the second season since transferring from Maris as that's a yellow card for Felix kogler second yellow of the night as frustration for Bill Bo and his coaching stuff yeah just a little bit kind of studs up from kre the cleats just hit Cutler De Jesus right on that shin and it definitely stings for a little bit and that's why there's the yellow card second of the night for the purple Eagles it will be a free kick for Niagra kogler will whip it in headed away at the near post valiantly by Whitman excuse me that's kukan in the oppos coach mcy said lukan is the spearhead of this team and you can see that not just going forward but defensively as well we've seen him multiple times on the defensive end head the ball away do it all high effort player long throw from tsma ball is loose referee has the decision to make and it will be a goal kick there's kukan in the middle of it once again he fell to the ground but still made an impact he falls it it makes things more difficult for the Niagara players Nicholas cllean ad not just in the States but overseas as well spent time with the u21 Armenian national team qualif in the European qualifiers scored in 1-1 draw against North Macedonia back in April you just know how much that means to him here is Aquin behind got the ball from kukan it's Aqua [Applause] kukan just like that Syracuse it's 3-0 and look how much means to not just kukan but the entire team they're all piled up down by the corner flag as happy as you are to see your Defenders getting on the offensive action Nick kukan is the guy who you really want to see get going we saw it at times last year where he was electric here just a great one-two pass with aqua the two forwards and kukan with a great finish inside I mean that's just a perfect onew pass bury the keeper out of the way and this crowd loves completely unselfish as well from Michael Aqua can't take away from the assist Nicholas kukan who didn't have the best 2023 four goals and one assist last season he's opened his account already in 2024 he's such a talented player so many times last year you would just think how did that not go in that was an unbelievable chance we saw earlier he hit the crossbar if Syracuse is going to have have a successful season this year it's going to be because of Kian in front Syracuse again putting on the pressure they want even more a 3-0 score line one that may not have been predicted before tonight cuz this is a really solid and experienced Niagara team but Syracuse the Young Guns Nicholas kukan one of the eldest on the team now in upper classman and this orange Squad have welcome the purple eagles with open arms but not in the right way I think it was really important for Syracuse to get that third goal it's really difficult in college soccer when the style of play is so different against teams like Niagra compared to your ACC squads Niagara right now is playing more like how ACC teams will play they're not just sitting back they're not playing with 10 men behind the ball and then Syracuse got it going offensively I think that's something that kind of hurts the orange ear in the season and Conference play sometimes is so many times like in the first half their only chances are on set pieces but there you saw an open field goal and that's just so key for this young Squad Michael Aqua again he has been active to start this second half already got that one assist but has been working down both flanks misses out that time Deus is attemp went a little too far right and actually ends up behind from where he kicked it 10 minutes gone in the second half Nicholas way Adam gotkin with you here on ESP uh ESPN plus and AC Network [Music] extra Adam just these opening 10 minutes is this more proof that this Syracuse team they look more experienced than they actually are yeah it's without a doubt more proof and you needed to see it in this match because it gets a lot tougher coming up TMA driving through and now his territory is a little bit more exposed but Syracuse taking their time going forward and again we see here a chance for the orange to attack Niagara not playing with 10 men behind the ball CRA is playing a lot more far forward than he was in the first half niaga right now really playing with two forwards forward instead of just kogler who's got the yellow card last season Syracuse did very well at home but struggled away only one win on the road in 2023 they've already matched that total this season their win on Thursday against Colgate again those those non-conference games so important early in the season could be be very meaningful down the line kukan crossed to back to the back post ball is loosed Aqua is there can he still get on it forces the save from Barry Aqua still up there ball is lo lose Jamber couldn't get onto it chaos inside the 6yd area and in the end it remains 3 n that's not the first time that we've seen this this match if anything Niagara is lucky to have given up just three goals because just so many opportunities here you got the one save from Barry and then another and then another a good job by a Niagara to stay about as calm as possible in that moment and eventually get it out but if you're the orang you're just wishing you could have got that one in Jamie Barry in the Niagara net has been a savior on multiple occasions despite the score line nine career saves tonight that's now a career high for the [Music] Irishman 18 total shots for the orange Michael Aqua who got that assist for Su just moments ago has been sprinting down the left and right hand side in the opening 13 minutes of this second half we'll have a stoppage in play here as well referee said to stop the clock Andre K De Jesus is being accused of time wasting such an interesting thing the time wasting college soccer because of of course you don't have added time so when you're up by three In This Moment guys are going to take as long as possible but then the referees start to get upset then you start to see some yellow cards come out way earlier than they ever will in the professional ranks and of course one of those new rules this year is the clock will start sto a little bit earlier 15 minutes to go if you're in the lead on substitutions the clock will stop and so just trying to get rid of that time wasting which can be so frustrating for officials and OB see the uniqueness that the clock counts down rather than up in in NCAA soccer does leave us with bit more excitement Michael Aqua running in behind Niagara will attempt to clear their lines roach sending it forward Turn Away by kogla tramba does [Music] well it seems like this tactical change from Bill Bole at least for now is going to be permanent with the two forwards playing a lot higher we kept on talking about in the first half the entire team pretty much playing defensively that's not the case right now so surprisingly Up 3 0 Syracuse is going to continue to have all of these attacking chances oh challenge by Ming result in a free kick called against the bermudan international coach bbo told us before the break that his team was doing all the right things but I'm sure he will certainly be frustrated with the way his team started relatively promisingly in this in the opening five minutes or so of the second half but head coach Ian ma entire squad has been almost Unstoppable since about the midpoint of the first half I think you'll be looking looking back at that save from Tomas Hut this entire match that's you know really the one true chance that Niagara has had in this match and if they score there if they go up one nil it's a completely different game but after Syracuse scores the first and then not long later scores the second niagara's hopes they just start to diminish and as the time goes on it just gets harder and harder Niagra have a little bit more possession here as they try the National Championship in 2021 also the ACC regular season champion in 2021 as well was the Clemson soccer newcomer of the year in 2021 was a four-star recruit and a top 100 freshman so not short of accolades and has played every single minute tonight he's important now but once ACC comes around he's just going to be even more important as someone who has all the experience kukan runs onto it and has it kukan on the right foot goes to left still Nicholas kukan forces a save again from Jamie Barry I don't even think we saw this at all from kukan last year just the patience in that moment to try and work on something and then get the free shot maybe it doesn't go in but that's another excellent look for Kian Armenian you take on a little bit of hydration it is a little bit of a human night it's been a warm day in central New York now that beautiful artificial turf it does make it a little bit more humid but this will be a real concern for Niagara as Jeremy Tulsa has gone down and somebody that who has had a great effort tonight a chance for all those involved to have a little bit of a sip and also a substitution as Juan cordana he getting ready to enter for the purple Eagles a top of the ACC to help these younger guys grow I mean it's everything especially for the Freshman to have those guys who have been there before Mings cross to the back pose the ball is loose and the do it all offensive end defensive end it doesn't matter I mean he has just been everywhere I feel like I've said that a million times not just in this game but against Colgate as well you have to say got the gamewinner against the Raiders on Thursday Mesi The Freshman just over the Border in Ontario really making his mark on this Syracuse team from back and to front Nick Nick that's you Nick Nick onck [Music] on we' talked about the the roster configuration of both of these squads Niagara team five newcomers only compet to Syracuse 22 experience you you field has been on show there's been maturity as well from both teams something that head coach Bill Bole says that he doesn't Envy having those younger players but at the same time that youthful energy that we've seen from Su today has been quite quite apparent and these early experiences for Niagara are important this is a squad that knows that unless something crazy happens it's not going to get an at llarge bid to the NCAA tournament so it's all about conference play and how can you set yourself up for conference play this team won three of its last five games of the regular season last year after not winning in its first nine so it's all about just trying to learn about yourself here you know going down three nothing isn't the worst thing because you have so many things that you can look back at and try and improve on you know those mistakes are things that you can fix moving forward and with such a short preas season as well these coaches are not given a lot of time with the players even the opening two or three games could feel like pre-season games Michael Aqua tried to Sprint forward but it's cut out by Langford Hungerford excuse me there W codona who has recently come into the game for the now injured Jeremy [Music] Tulsa P down the line intended for Felix kogler looks as if it will go out of play and be a goal kick for the orange McIntyre saying there before the goal kick let's slow things down calm down a little bit just go with the short passes at this point when you're up 3 n you want to make sure that you don't let anything in behind you I think there's a a lot of you know hope for a clean sheet those clean sheets feel so good and at this point you're up three nothing control the ball control a game those are things that you want to learn those are things that you might need to use moving forward in the season just set it with Niagara it's the same for Syracuse you're up 3-0 at this point what can you do that'll help you out later on can you control possession and just control the game without necessarily having to go and attack at goal about the halfway point of this second half Syracuse still in control about three goals to nil Nicholas kian's goal early in the second half extended the lead from two at halim Ezra Wiman Timo M the other two goal scorers for the orange B behind Aqua there nothing about this Syracuse team and just the tenure Under head coach Ian McIntyre is the the ability to develop players and help them turn pro and that's why all the connections to the mlsm has been so important so influential as well total of 21 players have been drafted into the MLS super draft Under head coach Ian McIntyre few of the notable ones miles Robinson ton Buchanan Alex Bono for DC United three of the headliners there's also players who have gone pro who have gone pro over most notably and most recently Nathan theu signed for Leicester city in 2022 currently un Lo Loan in the Belgian pro league know I think a lot about miles Robinson that 2015 team that made it all the way to the college cup for Syracuse because after that this team struggled it had some years with just a couple of wins but then McIntyre was able to rebuild and the trust of the athletic program here at Syracuse to not after a couple bad years you know ring the alarms and trust McIntyre and you know you know last year you don't repeat you don't go past the second round of the tournament but now this year you have so many young talented players and you know you can just go back at it again and have another chance Ming down the left hand side lovely control can he get inside of roach TOA the Costa rips it from distance that one is easily collected by Barry I think the transfer portal has made things a lot easier for coaches like McIntyre who often times kind of put themselves in this situation where you know that you're going to have to bring in a lot of freshmen you bring in a freshman class of 13 that's something that was developed over the last two or three years Jamie Barry there officially has a new career high of 11 saves he has gone up against a total of 14 shots on goal today three of those have gone past him into the back of the Niagara Nets few substitutions now as well as zil Ming has stayed down here on the left hand side Ben Rosen Platt and Braden Smith will enter for cuse definitely concerned here for zille Ming who is put in a great shift this evening gave thread gold making way for the orange cly what you don't need at this early stage of season any sort of serious injuries so I'm sure any even minor ones will be taken very things that you can think of and again we said this earlier one of the new things to college soccer this season the ability for the referees to look back at plays they don't have to you know second guaranteed and that if you compete you can do anything within this squat Santiago Restrepo the goalkeeping coach for Su recently has come in and has done an excellent job and e McIntyre has been very very happy with the production that he has built inside the goalkeeping room the goalkeeper Union also staying strong apparently it's a really really well-knit group and they all really work hard to make each other better and like you said Adam you hope to see that as well for the rest of the squad for both sides as well it's kind of a dream job but also a difficult one for Restrepo who has to balance with three different guys who know they can start but at the same time be able to work with so many talented players don't forget Kyle Jansen new freshman goalkeeper as well one for the future Ernest bow shot deflected and cleared away and Coach McIntyre made sure to really emphasize to us just how talented Jansen is when we were asking him about the goalkeeper room he never left out the Freshman even though he's brand new to this team he's a guy who has played with national teams before member of the U7 South African Squad so the talent does not end and some of these freshmen who we might not even even see appear for Syracuse this year the 13 of them in the next four years are just going to be so crucial for this development of this program and you mentioned earlier that even between 2015 and 2020 or so it wasn't the best seasons P coach Ian McIntyre was able to rebuild it feels like this might be that rebuilding time you've two years removed from a national championship
