And we want to stay on that topic. Three news is already receiving eye alerts about some school closures because of the excessive heat heritage Christian school. In fact, in Canton will close at noon tomorrow and Wednesday because of the high temperatures education station reporter, you see her there, Daniel wiggins with us now. So Daniel, what do we need to be practicing to keep students safe and what do you know about Heritage tonight? Ok, Christy, I was able to speak to a representative from heritage Christian school earlier today. They tell me that they closed schools because they're going to do that early as Betty said that 12 to 6 p.m. that said hot temperatures there, they are, they don't have air conditioning in their classroom. So they are going to close early according to the National weather service, a heat index at or above 90 degrees as that feel like temperature can pose health risks. Now, I spoke to Teresa Fletcher, the lead nurse practitioner for the school based health center at Akron Children's Hospital. Here's her advice to schools considering closing due to the heat, the schools don't have air conditioning. They should definitely keep their kids home for the day because it's, it's unsafe for them to be in those, those stuffy buildings without good air flow and no air conditioning. Um, if they remain open and they don't have air, they should offer plenty of water breaks, turn the lights off, keep it as cool as possible. Um, and then no outdoor recess. Yes. No outdoor recess that even goes for schools that have air conditioning. So they should, should, should consider indoor recess as well. And when it comes to extreme heat, and kids, Fletcher says that she typically sees kids complaining about stomachaches and headaches because they're just not feeling well in those hot temperatures. And so Christy, she says that parents who feel that the school may be too hot for their child tomorrow, that they should have the option to keep their child at home. So Danielle, we we always hear the advice, stay hydrated, help us understand how much we're talking about in terms of volume and what kind of liquids specifically should Children be drinking? Well, Christine in terms of how much it really depends on the age of the child. So Akron Children says Children between the ages of four and eight years old, they need five cups of liquid and preferably water uh day and those older Children, they need about eight cups if your child is sweating excessively, though doctors say a sports drink is a better option. So always stick with that water first and again, if you see that child sweating, that's not a good sign. So you do wanna incorporate those sports drinks there. And Christy coming up at six, I'll have recommendations for students who participate in those outdoor extracurricular activities. Tomorrow. We wanna keep them safe too. We do and there are a lot of them out there, aren't there. Danielle. Thank you so much. Looking forward to seeing you at five.
