Jesus Christ that's the beginning of the performance is that was like boom Katie Perry is in the house honestly I think her voice has got better K and welcome my name is zo Stevie and I'm a vocal coach with over 18 years of experience in teaching people like yourself how to sing so in today's video we're going to be taking a look at Katie Perry with like a whole bunch of songs I'll put the original video down the description below let's see what she's up to with a vocal technique have we even looked at Katie on this channel she's an incredible [Applause] [Music] singer and [Music] make me one and only make me your enemy enemy en [Music] [Music] [Music] holy [ __ ] Jesus Christ that's the beginning of the performance that was like boom Katy Perry's in the house she's an amazing singer I really really do she's a absolutely [ __ ] amazing say let's watch that Jesus look at her she's like I can't even do that back [Applause] [Music] bend holy [ __ ] so when she's got know you [Music] are so it's on the E4 E flat 4 so it's right in that lovely chest voice Sweet Spot she's got chest voice with a little bit of breath coming in and that's going to allow you when you take the volume right low get close to the microphone to edit a little bit of that a little bit of that slack vocal for to add in a bit of the effect every make me one and only en honestly I think her voice has got better I think her voice has actually gotten better with time this is incredible she sounds so I don't want to say grown up CU that they she was grown up for a long time she just sounds so the tone is so full I'm loving it I'm loving it let me know in the comments if she's like started a new with a new singing teacher and you like singing regime or something like sound incredible so we've got to make me AF so we're going from this F sitter down in the chest voice make me your afrite and that flip is actually what naturally happens in our voices where we go from the chest voice up into the head voice and that flip we can utilize that make me AF and it's important that we flip back down into the chest voice rather go me your afrite which a lot of people really struggle with actually but if you're interested in learning more about your pagio and how you can actually change out of your head voice and back into your chest voice check out the link in the description below because my vocal Academy which is my online singing School actually has a lesson exactly about this you're so [Music] you so you want okay so she's up on the a flat 4 and why is that even important because this sits right in The Sweet Spot of the female chest voice so you want to play with magic it's this really lovely like full of vocal fold sounds we got this thick vocal fold action no breath coming in in through the vocal folds it's got microphone really close to the mouth so you can actually keep the volume quite low [Music] so a lot of the time in these pop songs actually they they recorded so there's lots of different layers of vocals so what you're thinking you're hearing as being the main Melody she she actually just did that so um like a do so she did the little like a do and that little short sharp High breath is going to help to bring the vocal folds together and stay in that thicker vocal fold quality it's just look at what she did yeah cuz I'm coming at you like a dark it didn't ruin the vocal line it didn't actually make any difference that she didn't sing it but it's given her time to not only breathe but also to keep the larynx higher for that sound not going you're so Hypno could you be the could you be an [Music] angel don't understand you you're a whole world so this is something that we do know that she got whole world that whole another world and she's again F flipping from that full sit back into that chest voice so you go I again up on that a flat four so the a flat above mle c um and that's just really duhh duh a little bit of that cry going in there is what's making it sound like a little bit more more strained I know hypnotize me and the the we just make the throat a little bit small that'll kind of make it sound even more anguished if you could say that so good let's just go back on [Music] that yeah you go you can see these really open vves that she's using and when we are in this chest voice quality we want to it's easier for us if we St these like more open vowels e or o are the closed ones but a and a are the open vowels so I'm getting like all muddled up with my vowels today be afraid like the [Music] other d That's so hard to sing with what she's doing like you have no you know you have no stability in in your like legs coming up from the ground which is usually what we like or gravity actually which is what we like to use in order to support the sound with those those lower muscles and especially the pelvic floor so you can see that the harness is coming here from the bottom of like from her trousers or her like the bottom of her suit that she's wearing or whatever it is so this is physically very very very demanding that she's using so that you know what she's doing this is a real challenge this is a [Music] workout di you my eyes meal [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] holy [ __ ] superal superal she's up on the C for C five so this is very much at the sort of like the upper R and we know that Katy Perry can go eight way higher and way louder that's not a problem there yeah but it is at the upper register of the of that sort of chest voice entering into the belt range we're wanting to use twang extraterrestrial in order to get higher as well as a little bit more cry to go up there and you can hear that as [Music] well and she actually Supernatural she kind of almost creates these quite back vowels when she's doing this sound um which is just makes it even [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] harder [ __ ] I'm every he knows exist I'm his I'm his side that's [Music] [Music] inine baby LOE when IEP in I'm so posessive and up rolling up in the sh I mean that's just that's tallent not only is that move very very hard but also what wonderful vocals and I love that Katie Perry has brought in doi to show such a fantastic artist because this isn't her song right I just really like that I like the team building women bringing up women so when we've got this this I'm not a Rap Teacher I'm not going to go too much into the rap but basically she's it's not really speaking on pit she's going da da da little bit of air in their chess voice sound um but I don't know her spoken voice so I'm not really too sure what her spoken sound sounds like [Music] [Music] [Applause] I I'm so sorry just like you know they've got this this like moment between two women of course they they had to cut to the husband and his reaction where's all my California girl Dad we take them go I [Music] [Music] very much I mean this fall in love so it seems to be what she's doing here she's flipping into the faletto sound before she's going back down into the chess voice quality uh let's just go CU this is I you hi so she's up on the A4 which is only a little bit higher than she was singing before but I'm I'm not saying like poo poo whatever or whatever it's just that this is like going to be really really you know sitting well in Katy Perry's vocal range this isn't going to be like a big ask for her to sing um and also it's a song that she's known for a very long time and when you know songs for a really really really long time they go they just go into your muscles you could sing she could probably sing this with a head cold yeah so we've got this I you place thick of vocal fold action very like no air in the sound whatsoever glottal onset it's going to help you get into that sound water [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] if you're going to be singing that song I want you to do the with that glottal onset to get you into that chess voice sound to to access that part of your vocal range but if you want to learn more about how to access your chest voice and how to find that part of your range and check out the link in the description below for my 5ay challenge to find your chest voice but it's there you completely free I'd love to see you there let's keep watching Katy Perry [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] California girls are undable we got a chess voice sound there in that really comfortable part of Katie's range so we're not asking too much of the voice there um it sounded like she was just a little bit strained in there but honestly like she's this is the most amazing performance I'm just [Music] [Applause] [Applause] like the [Music] so we got without we're in this fetto sound vocal folds as when I the punchline so we've got when I tell the punch we need to cry into that and allow the vocal folds to thicken up you can use a little bit when I the pun wrong you can add a little bit of twang in there in order to bring those vocal folds together but I definitely think that this isn't super twangy um and she's allowing the voice to kind of flip up where it wants to go in that upper part of the range let's just watch that again go the way tonight [Music] we can dance until we we can dance until we die so for some people this might actually be really high in their range cuz you're listening to her singing that and you're like oh yeah that sounds like super easy like whatever and then you're like oh my God we're up on the B flat the B flat which is right the top of that chess voice register so don't be discouraged if you have to what is going on my hair don't be discouraged if you have to take the pitch down a little bit in this song We Can Dance as I say chest Bo sound be for make me [Music] me [Music] [Music] I feel like her voice is like becoming even darker right but let me know down in the comments if you want like a then and now look at Katy Perry's vocals because I'm almost feeling like I want to do one you again it's the B flight for um I'm Get Your Heart bra God it's up on the D5 so this is very much like this is now where you're going to need to work on your voice you need to work on your chest voice you need to go need to cry heart ring in my skin thick ofle F further up in the range little bit of twang going on there and for me this is twang because twang is a tightening of the area above the laryn we've got this tightening going heart racing in my skin tight je and it's really about not taking loads of weight into that upper part of the vocal register but we know that Katie is an absolutely amazing singer and that is actually technically incredibly difficult so that is why I actually have that as one of the courses available in the Vocal Academy because we really need to learn about the balancing of the breath flow along with the vocal fold um and especially allowing it to thin as we go higher in the range [Music] [Music] my [Music] [Music] so we hear the same the whole time so go she goes I W to try you one again that's that thick vocal fold flipping into the F set my attention so we're up on the B4 now that is right at the edge of the chess voice register for most people and forgive me if I'm repeating myself there so many different songs going on here um and I'm trying to because the VMAs just came out tomorrow I'm recording these Snippets it might you might realize that it looks different now to the beginning of the video I'm recording these uh analyses between my teaching day today because I don't usually film today but I just had to do it I had to do it to get it out for you um so when we go I can't to go we're not there yet we're not there at the chorus yet so we're on the E flat around the middle sea so this is actually quite good for the Chas boys ah [Music] drink in hand and that's challenging to walk and keep that stability but we know that Katie is the most amazing performer and very very very highly skilled so making sure that we're not pushing too much air keeping the volume really low is one way and also feeling like we're it's almost feeling like we're suffocating because we're not letting any air out cheriss [Music] [Music] [Applause] so when she went it felt so wrong it felt so right let's just watch that again so when she's going into that it felt so wrong it felt so right you know you hear that she's changed the melody and that's just absolutely perfect because we don't always need to sing the whole Melody we can change it to fit our voices and I love that she did that rather than like it felt so wrong it felt so right we don't know why she's not doing that today but you know she's flipping a lot into the faletto sound when she's going higher up in the range so that's maybe just telling me she could have a little bit of a cold some allergies maybe she's recovering from a cold could be so many different things so we're not going to judge it but she's working her way around the sound [Music] [Music] [Applause] wind [Music] [Music] you just got to ignite the and [Music] Sh the night the of July [Music] [Music] just do you ever feel I need to double check the key of that song cuz I'm so confused I feel like it's a little bit I feel like it's lower but I but I sort of almost don't feel like it's lower definitely in the same key but this is so interesting when someone gets older that the voice gets a little bit darker it sounds sounds like it's a slightly lower larynx position as well but I mean I was like maybe she's got a call and then she's like baby I mean [ __ ] out she's the most amazing singer so when she's going out baby on you can really sense these these wide open vows because we need those while we're going up higher in the belt and you seeing more tongue tension going on let's just listen back to this and this feel you notice that she's got the microphone really really close to her mouth don't overdo that with these [Applause] [Music] really in do you ever feel deep [Music] Shine the night the of Ju [Music] [Music] the [Music] [Applause] [Music] so when she's going to the boom boom boom even brighter than the moon moon moon she's in this Chas voice quality in that higher part of the range boom up on the C5 up there boom boom boom now that bit is going to help to create a bit of back pressure so that you can reach those notes in that upper part of the rain but we really need to be thinking she got lots of crying there she lifted up her neck you don't have to do that but it is actually a way that you can stay in that chest voice quality with a little bit more [Music] [Music] [Music] ease you feel it can you believe it I'm going the [Music] [Music] okay it's so interesting isn't it like seeing her development of a for Life yeah for Life yeah for life and we also noticed as well that most of her songs were in relatively similar keys and sitting around the same sort of place in her voice because we have a part of our voices that always sounds the best and most singers tend to stay within those particular range of notes or in that one key because they like singing in it and it suits their voice the best so don't feel like when you're writing your own music that you have to change the wheel and change all these chords every single time you know a lot of the time it's in the melody and it's not really like the interest is not necessarily produced by using crazy amounts of different cords oh it's so lovely to see Katie Perry out there on stage again I'm so glad to see that she's back performing um I have to listen to some of her new music actually cuz I haven't heard any of it but let me know down in the comments if you have and what your favorite new life performance of hers is because this is my I must say I'm an old
