at a Saskatoon high school students gathered still in shock their 15-year-old classmate in hospital with serious injuries after another student lit her on fire I didn't believe it was real grade n student Sophie hubard and Lexi spier had just left social studies class at Evan Hardy collegate when they came upon the horrifying scene we saw the girl put something to her hair and her hair came went on fire that her body started to light on fire and she started to scream Lexi says she called 911 the smell of burnt hair filling the hallway teachers desperately trying to put out the Flames for nearly a minute and I'm still shaking a little yeah police say the alleged assault happened shortly afternoon a teacher also injured while putting out the Flames an officer was already at the school dealing with another matter investigating say that allowed for an arrest within 1 minute it just looked so like scary and it looked so unreal and I was just I didn't know what to do like and I felt so useless by just standing there but I didn't really know what I could have done the 14-year-old accused of the attack who could not be named made her first court appearance Friday crying throughout she's been charged with attempted murder aggravated assault and arson members of the victim's family also there we leeping through the proceedings it was just like unreal the mother of the girl who called for help proud of her quick response I'm not sure how we're going to cope with it but it's going to take a lot of time as for the girls who witnessed the incident they say they're not sure when they'll be ready to go back to school yeah I'm worried for her and she didn't deserve that here at Evan Hardy Collegiate dozens of students are gathering tonight many laying signs and flowers in support of their classmate and waiting for word on her condition and Alexander we've heard that some students aren't ready to head back to class but school is set to resume next week well Ian students are being given some time to process what they've experienced they're going to continue to be offered Counseling Services over the coming days now educators will be back in the classroom on Monday and the school's principal announced that students will be returning on Tuesday but acknowledge for many it could take more time to cope with what happened Alexander Silverman in Saskatoon tonight
