what was your reaction uh in the news um I honestly didn't know what to think but um just coming here and being around everybody and being in this environment I'm just excited to be here you know uh it's something new for me I've never been traded before never been with another team so I'm just excited to see new faces you know be in a different environment and just get to work to pick up your life football yeah I would say it's different um I never had to do it before uh until I got drafted so I would say it's different for sure you know what I'm saying because you created a life for yourself in a certain place and then when you move it's definitely different but you know I can say coming from uh way across Seattle to here uh I can already feel the energy just being around in the building and you know getting to talk to the coaches and you know getting to talk to the players and everything I can already tell this team is very excited to you know be doing what we doing right now so I'm just excited to be here you know whatever the Bears are ready to you know put me in any position I'm excited to be there what type of player would you see the Bears are getting in yourself man they're getting a very explosive player uh a player that's going to be relentless a player that's just very passionate about the game of football and you know you're going to see that every day in practice you know what I'm saying you're going to see that obviously on the field so I'm just excited to be here and decided to be a part of the organization how how big is this season for you personally I mean you're on a oneye deal yeah it's pretty big for me I would say um you know what I'm saying I'm excited about it and I'm very uh just down for everything that the Bears are offering and you know whatever they need me to do to help them win I'm here to do it so I'm excited and I'm ready to show you know it Bears what I can do were you hopeful that Seattle wouldn't give you that tag that that you would have been able to hit the open market I man honestly I try not to think about any of that you know um Seattle did you know what I'm saying what they felt they needed to do and um being in my position uh I'm just thankful for the new opportunity because you know I can't change their mind about how they felt about the situation with me and them so I'm just excited the Bears wanted to step in and you know have me on their team and you know have me come do some things for them so I'm just excited about that just at this moment what do you know about the bearish defense hey I didn't know that much but I know we have 4-3 defense and I'm excited to be moving forward like going straight all the time I'm excited about that part you know I get to play forward you know get to put my hands on guys and stuff like that so I'm excited to be you know in this defense and just hearing from the guys man it's an opportunity to get to rush the pass it here and I'm excited to do that too that better it seems like it's a better fit for you but do you think that even when you were with Seattle that you'd be better in in this kind of defense or is this just you know you're just making the most of what hey I think I was just making the most of it you know know I you know I never think about being somewhere else when I'm already I just try to think where I'm at you know keep my feet where I'm at and um being here I'm excited about that you know we get to go for it and we get to do all the things that pass rushers and you know defensive Lin get to do on a regular basis what is it like learning a brand new defense with a new coach when Mike McDonald gets there in the off season and now having to learn a brand new defense here like do you feel like this is like information overload or how have you approached that so no I I don't think it's information over low I think uh what I knew with Mike McDonald defense I can just forget about it now so you know I can just forget about it now because I'm in a whole different defensive scheme and you know I'm just excited about learning everything that this defensive scheme has to offer for the defensive line and I'm excited about helping everything um just fall into place you know uh you know how they say rush and coverage work together you know some really good DBS here so you know what I'm saying I think we're going to do a lot of good stuff this year technique wise with the nines and the fives how they play their edges how do you think that benefits you I think it benefits me a lot because you know I'm used to playing 9 and5 UM cuz I did the same thing in Seattle so uh I would say it's going to benefit me a lot you know just being able to uh recognize run you know what I'm saying recognize pass and uh being able to play fast and physical are you excited the Bears don't have somebody who's designated to start up opposite Mont sweat so in theory maybe you could look at it like that could be you that's why I'm excited to be here because there's a lot of opportunity and um um I think the coaches and the staff here is just looking you know for guys that's looking for opportunities so I'm excited to be here you know I'm opportunist so I'm just excited to be here and get my opportunity and get my shot you had a lot of production after sitting out your rookie year I mean to generate 21 plus sacks in two seasons like how how did you do that coming off the season where you get drafted you're immediately shut down like how did you approach that yeah so I would say my first year was a lot uh just not being able to play because I never I never had to sit down for a season for any type of injury you know so uh it was a lot that first year but just having the right mindset and having your coaching staff keep pushing me forward and everything and having your players you know what I'm saying back you up so I mean not your players but your teammates back you up I mean it's it's everything in the world so you know what I'm saying that's what helped me push forward and everything and um I'm here now so that's I'm looking forward to doing the same thing you know everybody helping me here and me helping them as much as can um when I learn a defense so I'm excited to see what the Bears have to offer there's a funny clip of you coming off the sideline interception against the Raiders I think is that just in the moment or is that just in the moment I definitely will not be doing that here but it was definitely in a moment it was just the excitement I had for my teammate you know because I'm passionate about the game of football and um obviously in a moment I wasn't thinking because he went down I'm like oh my God he got his first pick for the season I'm excited and you know I try to just go out there and celebrate with him and then you know realize but um yeah I won't be doing that here at all you play with that kind of excit is that your game yes that's yes that's how I play I love I'm excited about football you know this is this is what I always wanted to do all my life um I've been playing football since I was eight years old so just to be able to rush the pass uh take the ball off the quarterback punch the ball off a running back you know get a tfl get a pbu yeah I I love that you know it's a part of my game and you know it's who I am as a football player there's a Scouting Report from when you're in college that says you an aggressive motor never gets bored between the white lines no I don't at all maintain that yes I'm excited that I have you know I'm saying I don't always get my shot you know what I'm saying but I'm excited to be here and take advantage of the opportunity I have right in front of me what have you learned about kind of ew's philosophy that kind of fits that in terms of finishing plays and running the ball and all the different the the focus on intensity and kind of how it matches your personal yeah and I I think it definitely matches my personality because you know I'm an intense player you know and effort is everything no matter what who the player is and who the team is effort is everything and I think um that's going to be me you know effort sacks except for plays chasing down everything and I'm excited to be able to do that in blue and orange how how much do you know about Montes sweat and um and are you excited to Rush from the opposite position meaning that he might be I'm definitely excited to get the opportunity to play you know what I'm saying alongside with that guy you know what I'm saying he's done a lot of good things in this league and you know I'm saying he's made his Mark and continues to make his Mark so I'm excited to get to you know I'm saying rush opposite of him you know what I'm saying race to the quarterback so that's what it's all about um and I'm just excited to be able to do that here uh grateful I am to be here right now how you guys doing your day been going good how's your day going great I'm beer beer down baby go ahead so what was your reaction when you found out uh I was excited I mean you know it's a whirlwind of emotions cuz you build relationships where you at but like you can't turn down a great opportunity so it was like I was ecstatic like ready to go like I was like honestly like let's get it waitting for the text to when my flight was going to come here what what's uh what clicked for you this preseason with your production uh I think it's just uh just just playing ball just you know like being in the right scheme and stuff and just having fun with I'm doing you know what I mean what do you like about hebra flu's scheme and how you can fit in it I mean I was with him my first two years with the coach so like I was productive then when I was with him too so and I felt growth every time every year with him so I know his scheme letting me you know still attack and be fast and use my skill sets definitely is what I feel comfortable with this game were you worried that you were not going to find a home I mean you just seem so like relieved and happy that you're here I wasn't worried at all cuz I know God got a plan you know and it's like if you worry you're not really trusting in faith so you leave by faith not by fear what do you remember about loose when you were younger just him just saying like you know run into the ball get after the ball get the ball out honestly ball ball ball ball and I carried it wherever I went too cuz I just know like it's always like you know you could take a with ball away you could stay in the leag for a long time was there anything that specifically caught you excited about this team before you even knew that you were going to be here have you heard anything about the bears in the preseason oh I haven't heard anything I try to stay off like um reading a lot of things when I'm in season and stuff like that but I just was excited cuz knew who was here and like uh it's a great people here and just a great scheme like a couple of these coaches I I've had where when I was with the coach um shoot my head coach from college is the assistant o line coach here too so it's nice reuniting with him and I know a couple guys on the team so I was just like just ready to go be it's like some people find it hard to go new places and you know that with new people but I feel like that's one of my strengths to you know get around new people and talk and learn so so I just was like ready for the opportunity for real you had two sacks last week against the Vikings what kind of momentum do you think that that presents you coming here and did the coaching staff just watching that game say anything to you about that performance oh they just like they love how hard I play how I fly around and everything like that it was like my get off is a big thing that stood out to them so he was like just keep doing what I'm doing and be myself did they talk to you at all about
