e back coach kill you know trusted me to to recruit me like out of the portal people wanted me but it was it was never power five and um I just feel like I'm I'm I'm the best player in the country and I'm I'm here to show it and that's that's what I want to do week in week out um whatever it takes to win and that's my mentality every single week that I step on the field what kind of motivation did you have going into this game um you know it's just some people said I'm from them like I'm a poor man Trace Murley so you know I'm I'm I'm I'm there to to play play how I want um play my game and when you when you stop me then you can talk you know what I mean so it's just um things like that you know taking it uh and using it um you know we got we got great players though Ian our o line did great we have a run to win and we ran to to win uh tonight your first game with your new team I don't know if you heard it sometime I believe it was the second quarter entire student section starts what did you think of the game and the atmosphere uh I've never been in in a home stadium where there were some more Virginia Tech fans you know it was it was crazy so I I couldn't hear myself um sometimes when I'm saying the Cadence um but you know it's I love the people who who came out to support us and so for the for not even that just like the donors who support us the outside world the student section that was there tonight you know they were they were live so um we take all we can and we're here to win games so um more people will come when we win what was the message you know the hle or whatever before that last twoin Drive TI um you know I I I told the o line you know we're still running to win um and I told I told Coach Beck just put put the ball in my hands and and he said all right let's what do you like and I gave him a few plays um we kind of ab Abus some of those plays uh tonight but you know we'll do whatever to win coach Beck has the same mindset he'll do whatever to win and and the guys up front did a a tremendous job seti um did a great job you know our receivers Q Skinner had a great game uh junior whenever whenever his number was called he he did great and then um we got to clean up a few things with with the tight end that and that's my fault um I got I got to be better but you know that's just part of the game what on that play there think it was third down where a little bit um you know it was a miscommunication I thought he was going to turn in he thought it was better to to turn out and so we just got to get it cleaned up and film um that's my roommate so we'll get that figured out you know I know you're new here but I imagine you're aware of the uphill climb that Vanderbilt has been on what's your impression of what this means to the program even if that was you know the celebration out on the field and what you saw yeah um you know coach Lee says you know he he gets emotional when he talks about team one team two team three and then now us and so he's I want to do it for him you can tell he's been through a lot and so just having a a head coach who who believes in you um I told him from the day I stepped in you're like I'm going to be your guy and that and keep in mind like not to take away from any other quarterback but you know I got I got competition um still it still goes on on today if I if I mess up if I if I was to mess up today um I would have got replaced so um I still got competition I got things to look out for and I got to get better every single day and so for Coach Lee to just trust me and you know let me ball he he really just he's he's a motivator he's like my biggest fan on the sideline so I I appreciate him um and I just feel feel so good uh for him but we're we're going to do something special here this year that play to Alexander where you just kind of Sling it to the sideways it's it's almost a latal one you on that I try to get I try to get the the uh the corner ran with the uh with the post um I Tred to get the guy the linebacker who was guarding him to come down on me once he gave him the step I got it to SEI and Saidi did the rest Tech was talked about as like you borderline top 25am and maybe dark hor to make the playoff at what point did you guys you know out there on the field realize like actually they're the same as us we we real like everyone's the same as us um we you know we're I feel like I'm the best quarterback step on the field they feel I I feel like our guys feel like they're the best you know um no one no one just because they got a name doesn't mean you know they they're better than us or or anything like that it's all a mindset um we talk about mindset and spirit all day here and so we just brought our spirit we know what we can do and so we're going to bring it every week you made the big plays but you also didn't turn it over how big was that that's big my last two games at New Mexico State the first game I turned it over a total of seven times in those two games um so I knew taking care of the ball was going to be the biggest biggest thing for us to win and so I took I took care of the balls especially sure of it tonight and so you know I just doing that I got I got a lot better in the field room this year too I got 10 times better than I am with my mindset so um I feel like that helped me a lot said on Tuesday that a lot of people didn't know what you could do and you wanted to show today you feel like you accomplished that that kind of drive you um I feel like you know what some people still doubt me and so I I know that um you know they say I'm I'm too small but I want to show that I can play in the NFL um I want to show the GMS that you know I'm the best player on the field whenever whenever whatever team's out there so that's what I want to do how well does this system fit you because this isn't just some sit back in the pocket or handed off or whatever it is it's fun it's exciting there's lateral options all the stuff how great is that for you and why does that fit you so well uh we we got a fun offense for for sure we got weapons uh to have a fun offense though we got Eli sters we got um guys on the outside that I just talked about and then we got cam we got four tight ends that could go in at one time and play and um you know we'll adjust to that as as we need to but it's it's going to be a fun offense we're going to be electric this year and I said that from the beginning and so we're here to put on a show and and uh win football games right after the missed field goal when you had to take the ball first and overtime what was your approach and how did you kind of gather the offense to be able to score that touchdown I thought to myself uh this is God's plan you know um what better way to to put it in my hands and go win the football game and so you know I'm I'm very blessed um highly favored um you know it's all God's doing like I'm I'm not supposed to like I'm I'm not really supposed to be here like I've been doubted um I had no offers at at a high school I had to walk on to a junior college and so from from here on out you know it's it's chip on my shoulder Wherever I Go
