LAST MONTH, CITY LOWERED SPEED LIMITS ON 14 STREETS TO MAKE AREAS SAFER. MANY PEOPLE SAY THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE ENFORCEMENT. POLICE SAY FOR SEVERAL YEARS, THEY HAVE ONLY HAD ONE TRAFFIC TEAM DUE TO BUDGET AND STAFFING ISSUES. THOSE OFFICERS TYPICALLY ONLY WORK DURING THE DAY. >> HALF OF THE ACCIDENTS TAKE PLACE IN THE EVENING AND LATE NIGHT WHEN WE HAVE NO COVERAGE OTHER THAN PATROL. >> THEY ARE ADDING A NEW SAFETY TEAM, FOCUSING ON STOPPING DANGEROUS DRIVING, DUI AND SIDESHOWS. >> WE HAVE A NEED TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES IN THE EVENING AS WELL. >> IT COMES FROM THE STATE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY. THEY MEAN BUSINESS. A TOTAL OF 49 CITATIONS ISSUED. WHEN ONE STREET IS SAFER THEY ARE HOPING IT WILL MAKE ALL STREETS SAFER.
