Dan wishes Greg a Happy Birthday with a touching monologue! I'd like to take a minute on this Greg Cody Tuesday to talk to you a little bit about fathers and brothers and Sons and the treasure chests of concealed love that can be Unearthed around men and their ofy masculinities if you care enough to do the digging perhaps you've heard me say that the greatest professional blessing I've ever known for eight years on ESPN was getting old next to my old man on your television that whole thing was ridiculous it made us closer than we've ever been and I honestly can't believe that I got to do any of that in his second language no less and the Gratitude in it will overwhelm me on the days I sink into thinking that one day poppy will be gone I celebrated his 81st birthday with him this last weekend surrounded by photographs of the youngest son he lost a year ago so mortality has been on my mind a lot more than I would like but if you really make me think about it I might say that I've had only one professional blessing that Rivals working with my old man and it's working believe it or not with the other old man I've had the blessing of sharing with you over these many years Greg Cody I've worked at his side a lot longer than I did with poppy nearly 40 years since I was 19 literally a teenager and it's come with a lot more laughs comfortable and proud as Greg is of his Endless River of oddities he's stubborn he's weird he's loyal he's loving and he's made me feel like family from the very start our relationship began you could say before I even met him I still remember that story that Cody wrote about former University of Miami Wide Receiver Michael Irvin and his late father and his late father's hat it didn't merely make me want to be a better writer that story it made me know for sure that I wanted to be a writer at all to me Greg was an idea and an inspiration before he was a person he had touch and he made me feel before he was someone I could either touch or feel I don't know that I had ever envied another writer before reading that story about Irvin's love and loss Cody's Grace with words a little poetry a little song a lot of feeling we tease him too much on Tuesdays but it's not an overstatement to say that this man genuinely taught me guided me inspired me and helped me better understand what I wanted from writing work and life when I got to the University of Miami very much searching I'd stand way down below as a student and see him up high in the Press Box at football and baseball games closer to the big lights where my dreams were and I would wish that I was him quite literally I looked up to him from the start he was my very first friend at the Miami Herald back when I was scared super scared I was an intern he told a joke in my ear in the herald cafeteria and then wrapped an arm around me and insisted i' come sit with all my childhood Idols you do not forget the people who make you feel like you belong you do not forget the people who make you feel like you've arrived belonging arriving these are things I associate with home and my closest and most personal access to home Prof professionally often has Greg Cody if not holding the keys to the house at least drinking a beer on the couch Greg is as they say of the deepest friendships the family I chose you see it and hear it every Tuesday whether he's dancing with the golden oldies or missing the hard Network out but you would have seen it and heard it any time we were together at any point over the last 35 years since the first day we met and he made me feel like newspapers were exactly where I needed to live he was part mentor and part guide and he made it real simple for me all I had to do was follow the laughter just keep following the laughter you're getting warmer Dan warmer to all the things you want just follow the laughter keep following the laughter it'll get you to where you want to be where you want to live where you want to work to the people you want to be around to the people you want to share your life with to be the man you want to be the one who can protect your friend and his son and their family and your family as everyone grows old together just follow the laughter it'll do more than set you free it'll make you feel free too really feel it and all the places where gratitude lives so deeply that when you press on it it will overflow around the heart and it'll leak right out of your eyes the very best things in life are pretty simple sometimes I like being around him always especially when he's annoying me like a big brother might because he makes me laugh and that makes me feel better it's medicine for me and you you see it and know it and feel it in a way that doesn't even need to be said to our most loyal listeners the one who feel like they actually know us and what we're actually about because they actually do you can't fake what Tuesdays are around here Cody and I did a South Beach session about our relationship and I would urge you to listen to it what gets brought out when we're together we'll do more Justice to our friendship than I'll be able to do here sitting alone but Cody is as you know past the syrup of all this a Wonder wonderful flaw disguised as a human being self- involved beyond all reason belly full of beer cans washes his hair with shampoo in the pool doesn't just throw out the stinky deck shoes he has worn without socks for 30 years but buries them in the backyard in an ornate funeral my wife will tell you there might not be anyone else in the world who makes me instantly happier right upon sight I wanted to share something else with you now though as we spend this entire year cele crating the 20th anniversary of this show celebrating 20 years of Friendship with each other and with you on the air I've been scared a lot the last few years a lot more than I've ever been it really is a terrible place to live in that dark inside of a certain Terror and I will tell you now exactly when that fear first started long before my brother died this creeping sense of mortality that haunts and was never around before I turned 50 I remember the distinct cold blowing through me right after we left the ESPN when I was still in the bowels of a Clevelander that was falling apart with busted pipes and faulty bathrooms and an assortment of rots brought by living for years near the sea Cody who had already had a tumor removed from his chest would not stop coughing could not stop coughing my good friend was having trouble breathing and sleeping and was having trouble hiding it as well and too stubborn to go to the doctors about it to boot he tried to hide it so poorly during the pandemic that he would pass out coughing on the floor so afraid was he of being seen in public as a viral strain on the phone in the studio that cough felt like an alarm for me I don't know how much more overt a sound would have to be to warn you that time is short this was very much a siren a warning not to Value each moment I couldn't see that from there death hadn't visited yet grief hadn't yet left its Mark so the lesson then wasn't to Value each moment it was to fear that any might be the last and fear and gratitude could have trouble living in the same place if you aren't conscious about it you can choose to run away from that fear as I did at the time or you can choose to run into it with the knowledge that you don't have to choose dark when there's still light I didn't quite know when I lost my brother that I'd look up and realize that there was another who was there all along I don't need to tell you or Greg that I love him you know this he knows this you feel it he feels it I feel it but we've got enormous plans around his 70th birthday this month as our show celebrates 20 years together and Greg and I celebrate being together almost twice that long so happy 70th birthday to Greg Cody my beloved friend your beloved friend our beloved friend we do not know how much time we have left with any of the people we love but we're going to celebrate this one like we know in our hearts that fill too deep deeply with love and loss that we aren't promised anything beyond the joy of today that's the gift we get to share together with this lovable old man every Tuesday and every day but especially on his birthday The Joy with gratitude and love together of getting to open the present stop that stop that awesome like fire on the if you I'm the cage got out the reu [Music] let tell me I'm awesome yeah on the if you want toou stop that stop that stop [Applause] that and happy birthday to Reacting to the bodycam footage from Tyreek Hill's arrest! him I don't care good luck next time just say happy birthday yeah Greg I texted you happy birthday this morning don't let don't let that whole piece overshadow my message to you your your text was heartfelt happy to see that you're still with us I walked in late and I thought you were dead Midway through that I was worried I was glad to see you in the seat I think we said this is his last birthday so enjoy it Dan certainly made it feel that way he doesn't think there's going to be a 71 sorry to tell you Greg you're monolog more like monong I heard that joke in my ear while I was doing you know how hard it is to do that while stat is telling Billy monol along and and and when I hear him complain what there four minutes left I thought Mike Lupa was going to pick up where he left off was your editor out sick or something yeah it was a little wordy I have to admit but uh you know Midway through that I'm thinking to myself you know this is very well spoken well said well written I want this guy to do my eulogy when that time yeah it just happened but save the date though save the date for my eulogy well it's this year so yeah hope I did not say anywhere in there that was not a hot take prediction that he's going to die within the next year that is said celebrate this birthday cu the next one's not guaranteed that is celebrate All birthdays because none of the next ones are guaranteed so we're all dying now not just Craig tell you what when I turn 39 skip me there's only one of you I wish would die I don't know guess could be anybody could be anybody could be anybody wow could be directed at anybody it was directed at me no set together I did yeah yeah I mean listen this is a hell of a 20th anniversary I'm having I mean Dan is having sex with everyone but me it's unbelievable and talking about boo what a great show they could have had Greg Cody was his first choice and listen you're stuck with me I'm the best thing that ever happened to you I don't care what you say I mean Studio's got a cuck chair and you're in it pal for your 70th birthday we give you the greatest gift possible a star dolphin arrest outside the stadium yeah yeah that's the gift that keeps on giving I got to write more about that right after the show today it'll be online late this afternoon so your birthday gift to me could be clicking on that column doesn't cost you anything all right now dad are you you were disappointed in me for not having Dan appear in the Greg Cody show for your birthday episode and I didn't because I knew you know he was going to say some nice stuff for you here does it now make sense why I did not have Dan on the Greg Cody show yeah we had a Cavalcade of guests uh listen to the show because uh on the Greg Cody show which is the new episodes out now we do a birthday celebration of me as well as I talk a lot about the Dolphins win and the Tyreek Hill stuff so I didn't really ask you to plug the episod wow that was just straight promotion you went into he wanted to talk to you about some of the content around it that you probably got mad at him because I wasn't on that episode you went straight to uh antiseptic promotion of what's on your podcast do you remember the question I asked you yeah yeah I get it I sort of get it I still think you know maybe he could have uh given me a 30 want to hear that twice you wanted more wanted more 30 second version well no hold on a second there is no 30 in Greg's defense it's like me getting my daughter a PS5 for her birthday like it's Greg's show for his birthday be on his podcast yeah I said you're like let's put it here that's what I'm thinking but my uh executive producer of my show wouldn't do it well I knew how long that was I was like it's going to be redundant well I wouldn't expect that I mean that was truly uh you know that that left me ver clumped I mean that was did you cry at all tear up you know I I naturally tear Jess because I have my mother's eyes right andu literally Ruth Ruth Doogie used to uh have uh tearing eyes know not related to emotion or crying she would just her eyes would get all moist and tear and so do mine I'm on the road today a hellish trip to the studio terrible terrible just extra bad I'm I'm following ways uh you know and and it let me down and my gas light comes on so I'm sweating I'm rolling down my windows I'm all clammy and I called them I'm like Dad you don't need like you got 38 miles on your range you're good you have 16 miles to go and meanwhile cars not passing me by cuz we're all going so slow you're looking over you're seeing another guy stop just like you are and and I'm practically cheering they think I'm crying because I'm stuck in traffic but we got here okay traffic made you cry more than the monologue well I I cheered a little bit well has Ruth side right he has Ruth's eyes I'm not even certain he was crying during the monologue I mean follow the laughter whatever you do follow the laughter eyes avoid the light and follow the laughter no the monologue was emotional no Mike you follow the laughter and into the light you don't avoid theid you want him to die so that monolog better he wants me to Die the light is where you go laughing no it's definitely me either way follow the light S I didn't say who I wanted to die all right follow the laughter and do it 17 times over listen going into the light is a metaphor for dying so I don't think I'm going to look for the light right now live in front of the light knowing that you might die laughing don't avoid the light no be the light get the warmth from the light I'd Rather Be The Light how about happy birthday yeah fine does anybody actually die laughing has that ever happened put it on the poll please JuJu at lebatard show has anyone actually died laughing I want to with my last breath I want to go you have fainted laughing a couple that's almost happened here yeah he wants Taylor to walk into the light by the way yeah be anybody subtle difference there's like two dozen things that you could died doing that I would say he died doing what he loved yeah plugging his podcast talking about himself Miller being the center of attention would absolutely uh be high on the list of how is that Greg Cody wants to die center of attention with Jimmy Buffett singing nearby yeah huh too bad you couldn't arrange that jimy have got to him sooner yeah I I failed I'm sorry that we failed uh but for your birthday I again will say we give you the gift of a star dolphin receiver being arrested in the safest place that he could have been outside of the field detained by the way uh yeah he was not arrested uh forgiveness uh once you're once you're on your stomach with your handcuffs behind uh your back you're being arrested like that's detain it's no it's it's a no it's a place between detained and arrested it's detained when they closed the cell you've been arrested um I'm going to say that that felt like an arrest I think it's the Miranda rites but maybe it's the cell door yeah I think when they close the cell door you've been jailed but that feels like you've been arrested you're right I think it's one of those things that like if it feels like you're being arrested then you can say you've been arrested it did look like an arrest for about 10 seconds I'm kind of worrying wondering how that all ended cuz like we saw the escalation we saw Kus in there we saw jonu in there like we saw all of it we didn't see how they like finally sat on like okay you're free to go we're GNA play some of this because they knew he was a dolphin there is that body cam as well but uh this can be and is to me uh both appalling and watching the video totally unsurprising how it is that that escalated that way it's how those things escalate I remember stugots the Spike Lee movie do the right thing in college I had a very sort of antiseptic childhood in Miami it was just ethnic with my culture it did not have all of the ethnicities of Miami so when I'm watching do the right thing in Spike Lee I'm being introduced to how something can escalate when there are a lot of tensions and then at the end the system falls on the black guy in radio is dying in the street because he looks like a menace the way Kus Campbell might look like a menace if that kept escalating now that we have all of the video on these things and I don't know who Slaters Andy Slater sources are in the police department but he's got good ones like in the history of this Market I don't know that we've had outside of edab buenon somebody who's got the police sources that this person has but now we've all seen what it is that happened here and I'd like to examine it together because I don't recognize totally those accents I'm not good at telling Hispanic accents apart but it sounds like the police officers are people who learn the language in this country it sounds like I recognize enough of the accents to be like wait a minute these these people are not necessarily from here they learned English while here after coming from somewhere else is what I heard in the accent that's not what I heard I heard your traditional Miami accent let me so let's see I want to hear I want to examine this together and I want to uh I want to go over what it is is in this video and audio yeah not a language barrier [Music] here keep your window down hey keep your window down keep your window down I'm going to get you out of the car as a matter of fact get out of the car give me give me your ass get out of the car give me your ass we break that freaking window get out of the car get out of the car right now we're not playing this game get out get out get out get out get out what point of doll you on this hey Drew hey Drew I'm getting arrested Drew I'm getting arrested I'm getting arrested Drew I'm getting up bro God damn T we tell you to do something you do it you understand you understand not what you want but what we tell you you're little confused I'm getting out too late all right bro take me ja bro do what you got to do BR we are hold on TW hold on hold on bro I just had surgery on my knee I just had surgery on my knee bro I just had surgery on my I just had surgery in your ears when Weill bro chill bro hey Jo new Bro back up hey call call call D man they got T the cops over here beating on them man they over here beating on Tek who's the driver this my car you got to move right now man let me have your license you to let me have your LIC let me have your license I'm not playing let me have your license your license right now's going your license right now you're not going to give me your license you're not going to give me your license let me have your license your license right now hey your license right now but I'm going to lock you up your license right now sir and protect trained in deescalation I mean you you mentioned before the video that uh you could see it escalate it escalates by the dudes that are supposed to deescalate the situation and the calmest ones are the guys on the receiving end of it yeah have Tariq saying hey just give me a ticket I have to get to work he is saying hey whatever I did wrong fine write the ticket up I need to get to work look this is uh going to be met where we are in this country by a whole lot of people not hearing it the way that you just just heard it saying no Tyreek has to go yes sir no sir right off the top and help like there are a whole lot of people listening to this who aren't saying that the escalation started with the police they will say that the escalation started with Tyreek Hill not completely Obed OB obeying in a subservient Fashion Police who were going to abuse their power if he hit them with arrogance because of everything that drives up there speeding black expensive car and God knows the amount of host ility those motorcycle cops have because they're short and motorcycle cops like no no joke there's a whole lot of happening before we get to where it is that they have a divide between what's inside Tyreek Hills car and what's outside his car and many many people will not change their mind by seeing that video and say oh Tyreek was wronged there they will say no right off the top you obey but policing began with slave chasing that's how police began and we've created around football somehow black balling the quarterback who told us can we stop that can we stop that and things that work like that and then the answer is no we can't stop it get out of the league Kaepernick and now Tyreek Hill is on CNN he's calling his agent in the middle mid of that Drew rosenhouse is going to be here shortly to talk to us but Greg your thoughts on what it is that you're seeing there yeah I I was told that when he referred to Drew get Drew get drew the the do the Dolphins director of security who deals with police matters like this also has the first Nam Drew so he may have been referring to him but I think Tyreek did one thing that legit was wrong which is rolled up his Darkly tinted window when the cop was talking to him I think that in retrospect was wrong but overriding all that I think this is a gross the Tyreek was caught driving while black that was his crime and it was a gross exaggeration overreaction by the police I thought it was a plain abuse of power I didn't think when they when they put him so quickly and so forcefully to the ground that's how George Floyd started right okay 10 minutes later one of their boots could have been on his neck I mean this this kind of thing gets gets overblown quick and turns deadly quick and and that's why the reaction to this is not an overreaction this is pretty serious and pretty damning to the uh Miami date Police Department in my opinion it really is it's gross it's disgusting it's an Abus of power but when Tariq says afterwards after the fact I rolled up my window because people walking by people coming by would have taken pictures of me are you okay with that are you more okay with that this is this is what I would say to you okay trying to be maximum understanding to police officers who in my mind and my experience in Miami do not deserve this kind of Maximum understanding it's a difficult job and I understand while you would see Kus Campbell and find him threatening and I also understand when a window gets rolled up and I can't see in there are you going for something like I can understand in Miami how you would arrive at you need to roll that window down because I need to see what it is I need to see that's happening inside your car but they're job isn't to do all of the things that instigate that to a higher level and I can also say hey Tyreek you need to not be arrogant in that spot I can say that but they can treat him like a human being once faced with that arrogance instead of doing what they did which is show everybody no we have the power over here you don't have the power to do anything that you want here you will listen to us you will obey let's get the other sound where it becomes clear from uh from nearby that they knew who they were arresting so this isn't even a matter of ignorance they're going over there with the knowledge that it would be pretty unlikely that a dolphin star receiver is going to shoot at them near the stadium huh oh yeah that's the f word upon learning that and to be fair I don't know if the cops knew that that going in like he looks at the ID and says you know who that is that's one of the dolphin star players which is responded to by a loud fword um this is uh when all this stuff happened everyone was saying let's not rush to judgment we didn't we don't know what happened here I think a lot of people kind of knew what happened there especially those that grew up down here and knew everything there is to know about the cop and just had all their biases confirmed in all the doxing that has happened since from the level of education to probably his friend group and who this person surrounds himself with this is a problem Across the Nation what you saw play out is not just unique to Miami but also very Miami in the complex of these police officers the video that we just saw there was after the second video was after he had been detained and they were realizing who it is that they had arrested right not on the front end they have his license and they're saying hey this is the dolphin store player how about what happened to Janu there which is you have one police officer telling you in a crazy moment where John who doesn't know what's happening he's approaching hey get back in your car get off another cop comes in undermining the first cop saying in the the extended video you're dealing with me now give me your ID while you're getting back in your car and John's literally getting three different directions in a half second span and that other cop just tries to keep escalating keep escalating saying you know what I'm going to put you under arrest too all this happens within a finger snap and all John new Smith is doing is literally backing up trying to understand and saying out loud what he is seeing Drew rosenhouse next Drew Rosenhaus gives his thoughts on Tyreek Hill being detained by the police! so I want to clarify a couple of things from the last couple of days because when Jeff Darlington was on with us I was saying to Darlington we all know Kus Campbell all of us know him he is a a gentle giant and Darlington was quick in that moment to say well you don't know when all of that is coming toward you a giant man you don't know any of that and so someone in a threatened situation might find that extra threatening someone of that size so I want to make the clarification from back there where I'm saying well I know this person it's hard for me to imagine that person being the kind of enraged since we've known him since college that that would be the kind of threatening that it might look like originally the cops did not know who Tariq Hill was there's no way they know who Kus Campbell or Janu Smith is well but Tyreek Hill might not look like a football player there's no there there is no misunderstanding that Kus Campbell looks like someone who could play football so Drew rosenhouse is with us now and it's been a long time since I've talked to Drew and I saw him sweaty in the middle of the field all of that looked uncomfortable and also a position that Drew rosenhouse has been in a few times in front of cameras so he joins us us uh now and Drew thank you for joining us what can you tell us you know now that you didn't know when you were talking to the media right before the game well I I am uh I admire what uh Tyreek is is doing right now guys he's um in the process of trying to organize a forum discussion with uh the chief of police of Miami day any anyone else here in South Florida that wants to get involved Tyreek has said to me uh as traumatic as an event as this was he wants to take this negative and try to turn it into a positive we talked about all the things that um athletes have tried to do over the years like Colin Kaepernick and and others and to see this type of uh treatment continue to happen he's going to take a different tact here and and uh and try to meet with some leaders to bring people together to to follow the you know the rules the the way that Tyreek said the rule book what what what police are trained to do that wasn't the case on Sunday so Tyreek is adaman about being an agent for Change and uh in talking to the Dolphins the NFL Troy Vincent the senior vice president of the NFL the players Coalition the NFL PA everyone is uh behind Tyreek and uh there's just a lot of momentum right now to turn this into an example of of how we can take a negative and turn into a positive you were careful in the moment not to make any allegations and what you're saying is that going forward none will be made because everyone here is trying to now deescalate this and turn it into a teaching moment versus saying any one of the things that could be said here about a black man being uh handled poorly by police I I think uh number one Dan there's no question that um Tyreek wants to improve relationships between the police and society and and to see this type of thing happening in particular with with black people um and non black or Latino or or white police officers this is not unfortunately something that is new but he does want to be an agent of change now that's not taking things off the table by looking to discipline the police officers that were involved here in in violating uh Tyreek and the way that they treated him and Kus Campbell and John new and there there may be litigation in a whole other slew of things but for now Tyreek is uh focused on trying to rather than necessarily protest as much as try to work together with the police to um to get this on the right track moving forward I I was amazed after everything that those officers did to Tyreek he went out of his way to try and shake their hand before he left the scene to go into the stadium he literally said to them I want to be a police officer one day I respect law enforcement this isn't how it should be done let's be better I was with him when he said those things he showed a lot of poise and I think he really wants to carry that message moving forward but it was the reason I was sweating like that is I was running frantically around the Stadium to get to him my client jnu Smith called me and said drew the cops are beating on Tyreek they're choking him they're kicking him they've got him on the ground in handcuffs I mean you want to talk about anxiety pain frustration it was a nightmare and then all this videos out there there's zero narrative about what happened to Tyreek so I was hustling to talk to as many people as I could before the game to get the message out that Tyreek did nothing wrong Kass Campbell did nothing wrong and the police involved here were way out of hand Drew does Tyreek have any regrets about the situation uh I I I have not I can't speak for Tyreek but from my perspective I don't think he should I don't don't believe when you look at the video and I talked to Tyreek about this that his conduct in any way merited any type of physical Force to put him in handcuffs to yank him out of the car I mean how about a little respect give him a ticket if you thought it was a moving violation give him the ticket but handcuffs and you know the the way that they kicked him and hit him and the choke hole that was mindboggling for him to have regrets uh he's absolutely the last person that should be regretful the police officers involved should regret this um and and hopefully people are learning from this around the world on how to not be uh in law enforcement that that's a lesson on what not to do and how to treat people the wrong way Drew how did we get to the handshakes What stopped all of this from happening what's happening in the middle here that we don't have access to that gets to the handshakes well to tyre's credit uh I was with Tyreek Drew Brooks the Dolphins head of security uh Brandon Shore the Dolphins vice president tyre's uh grandparents Herman and Virginia Hill were there we um you know Tyreek just settled down and showed a lot of poise and maturity it was his call to reach out to those officers to tell them to be better moving forward Drew this could have been so much worse uh Tyreek could have been injured and and seriously injured and and unbelievably he not only played but uh was the star of the game with that 80 yard touchdown catch uh to make clear might litigation still happen is that still on the table absolutely absolutely Tariq has um his attorneys involved that are looking at this to to see if that is appropriate um a lot of people have reached out to him indicating that uh this is um this is something that potentially should Merit litigation um that is something that will be determined in the future but Greg I want to go back to your point I literally just hung up the phone with Tyreek a few minutes ago and he made the point that you did it could have been so much worse he said he could have been shot he could have been killed thank God he didn't resist thank God he didn't fight back thank God he handled it with the maturity asking for professionals to help him and he kept his Poise but what if he didn't this could have been absolutely disastrous when you see the way these officers were treating him Drew what absolutely fear for his life what information do you have today that you didn't have when you were talking to the Press what have you since learned uh when did you get access to the body cam video that confirmed or refuted any things that you thought before you saw it well I mean when I got there Tyreek was still in handcuffs but it was after all this violent stuff otherwise I I I probably would have been arrested as well because I would have jumped into The Fray here this is just mindboggling just like Kus and jnu did I got there at the tail end where he was still in handcuffs and went over and the police were trying to push me away what do I know now looking at all the body cam footage it's absolutely sickening and Tyreek himself didn't realize even going through it how terrible it was he told me he just couldn't believe this is the kind of thing that you see happening to somebody else and what if he wasn't Tyreek what if his uh director of security Drew Brooks wasn't there what if I wasn't uh there at the scene who knows what this could have turned into what if his grandparents weren't there I can't believe that they were there grandparents grandparents fix they fix everything grandparents are are they put it on the poll JuJu at lebard show do grandparents fix everything like what so what what are you walking into Drew you've got all the police officer's there your receiver your client is still in handcuffs this is before the handshakes and his grandparents are there my my brother Jason and my partner said to me Drew don't get arrested he knew I was very emotional and I was extremely upset but fortunately by the time I got there the officers had calmed down to the extent that Tariq was with Drew Brooks he was they just had let him out of handcuffs Tyreek was very poised but uh to say that uh everybody who cared about Tyreek uh was enraged and livid including his grandparents his pregnant wife who was at the stadium uh this was just absolutely I've been an NFL agent guys for 37 years I've never been involved with something like this is mindboggling a player is just trying to get to his home stadium to do his job that's all he was trying to do and that's basically what he said to the police when they ripped him out of the car he was just trying to explain what he was doing and why he allegedly was in a hurry he had a job to do and uh he had a game to play mindboggling you know Tyreek and I were were still talking this morning about how shocking this is even 48 hours later uh you say no regrets was he driving too fast or recklessly not that I'm aware of he says he wasn't it's kind of hard to do that in traffic um you know you look at where he got pulled over but I wasn't an eyewitness to that quite frankly we were we were just uh you know relieved that after all of this he got a speeding you know basically a a speeding ticket a reckless driving ticket and a ticket for driving without a a seat belt we were concerned the police would try to uh keep him away or take him into custody we were quite honestly very relieved and we'll get that stuff taken care of but I obviously if he was that certainly did not Merit that type of outrageous conduct and I know that almost every body agrees with this sentiment Tyreek did nothing that deserved the beating that he got and the physical treatment much less Kus and Janu on top of that Drew and it's heartbreaking Drew in the aftermath of this when when everything was settling down at the scene and you were perhaps in the company of uh the police officers did you hear anything from them that sounded like apology or regret or we overreacted or we didn't know who it was anything like that Greg I can tell you that the dolphin security which is made up of either retired police officers or off-duty police officers um were just uh appalled by the way Tyreek was treated I was at Monday Night Football last night in San Francisco and I can't tell you how many of the police officers there came up to me and said hey this isn't how we do things this is not something we proud of this is not a uh this is not the norm these guys were way out of line um but none of the police officers involved there showed any remorse or were apologetic uh but our goal is to make sure that they are in the near future that they are disciplined for the people the police officers there that kicked him that put him in a choke hold that ripped him out of the car that threw them on the ground that put their knee on them we want those officers to be disciplined and to make sure that they never do that again to anybody else who doesn't actually deserve that type of uh treatment what is the discipline you want for for me personally I think that police officers that uh that did that to Tyreek shouldn't be in that position they should be let go look at the guy that just kicked him right there that guy should be fired that's out of control the guy that that jumped in put him in a choke hold there's no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that when Tyreek wasn't being uh aggressive or violent or fighting back in any capacity what you know that was horrendous how they treated him they didn't treat him like a human being does Ty there's no place for police officers to be on the force uh Drew I agree with that does Tyreek agree with you though I of course he wants them fired he thinks they should be fired well I'll let tyreq speak to that that's that's my opinion he and I have not had that specific discussion but certainly I would recommend to Tyreek and the legal team that that's something that we pursue um you know I think he deserves an apology from each and every one of those police officers involved and the one that abuse their Authority and power should not be on the force in my opinion moving forward what do you say to anyone who says that Tyreek Hill has to initially be more submissive in that spot and just simply follow orders regarding his uh window based upon my discussions with Tyreek and the video and everything that I've seen that's uh very clear that Tyreek was submissive that he was cooperating um and to the extent that the police officers didn't feel that he was his conduct by no means warranted the extreme reaction that they uh that they that they did I mean there's look it I mean his conversation there what do I have to do give me a ticket I mean he's a human being he has the right to have these discussions and uh you know to me again Tariq is human you don't have to be perfect when you're dealing with the police to not get arrested I mean at the end of the day they yank him out of the car it's it's absolutely he's got rights he's trying to get a hold of the team security director myself and look at this they yank him out of the car throw him down I mean for what have a little bit of patience what does it take a minute or two to Comm communicate he's obviously not a threat there's no instance you got to put your knee on his hand right there tyre's been dealing with a wrist injury a sore knee this guy right there that's that's just unnecessary he's not fighting back and then they harassed him they called him a crybaby look at Tyreek he just said I had surgery on my knee he had a procedure he had some injections this off season uh PRP and this is how they treat a guy I mean what if it wasn't a world class athlete and here's my client he's on the phone with me they're beating on Tyreek I'm on the other line there and they're about to arrest him I mean that's un that's absolutely have a little bit of awareness these are Dolphin players that are trying to do their job were at the stadium your police officer John new is trying to comp the situation down and so is Kus you don't have the the Poise as a police officer to recognize that Ty Hill and Kus Campbell how about a little bit of communication what happened we can't just talk things out you got to suddenly throw a black athlete or a black person in a nice car you got to throw him to the ground and beat on him that's absurd Drew you know South Florida you know Miami they want the answer to one question is the U Back the answer is yes Absolut they are loaded this is a talented football team and they're gonna have a great season all right and Drew good good seeing you under weird circumstances thank you sir appreciate the time I know you're very busy right now take care guys thank you J uh what are we to do with the Reacting to the Dolphins' statement on Tyreek Hill's arrest! statement from the Miami Dolphins quote we are saddened by the overly aggressive and violent conduct directed uh toward our players by police officers before yesterday's game it is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility toward these players yet it's also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace as we are grateful this one did what if I wasn't Tyreek Hill is a question that will carry with resounding impact we are proud to have a strong and positive relationship with the Miami Dade Police Department and other law enforcement agencies and recognize that the vast majority officers do serve the community with the utmost character and desire to protect all citizens however as is on Full display in the videos released tonight there are some officers who make their uh who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with misguided power while we com commend mdpd for taking the right and necessary action to quickly release this footage we also urge them to take equally Swift and strong action against the officers who engaged in such despicable Despicable Behavior Uh this is going to now escalate when you get the team and the agent and litigation demanding discipline like it's not it can be a more peaceful resolution but the demand for discipline from these entities will force discipline that's exceptionally strongly worded uh as an official statement from a club to use words like Despicable uh that's about as strong as you can get from a from a team uh talking against something like this Don liard is there back in my day there What if it weren't Tyreek Hill? is actually are what were you not going to tell anyone wait a minute you guys guys it's a Tuesday stats here's your Guy Greg Cody with back in my [Music] day okay here it is sorry adultery wa a minute back waiting for this one this is the Dan latar show with this two guyss [Music] this is how confused and disoriented our beloved friend is on his 70th birthday and happy birthday to him I don't care good luck he just heard a rejoin and when he heard the back in my day music he said wait a minute we're doing that now yeah I mean it's understandable I heard that tinkling piano which is my intro I'm scram I was scrambling right but Dan hadn't said a word yet you didn't realize it was a rejoin happy birthday to you it is funny that you still don't know after all these years what we're doing when we're doing it uh that last segment uh stugots it was finished and stugots who sees uh money greed opportunity in every crevice went out and had to smoke a cigarette because he came back and said man that's good for Drew's business all it if he'd gotten in there and gotten arrested the shouting uh the the security guy for the Dolphins also being named Drews so that everyone thinks it so that every client in the NFL thinks that when Tyreek Hill is getting arrested and is in fear the first person he has to call is his agent imagine having an agent that's willing to get arrested with you or for you that is good for business I mean is it not am I wrong you both think that Drew is enjoying all of this oh and I don't know if you're wrong part of me believes that he's a little jealous he didn't get arrested to what a what an image to show clients I will go to bat for you yes you know there was a working Theory here at the office yesterday that was brought up by two different people and I'm not sure if it's something we should go to air with or not but I'll I'll bring it to you and then you guys tell me it's a good thing we're not live on air well you tell me if you think we should take it to air or not all right so after Jeff Darlington was on and we started kind of putting things together and noticing Jeff Darlington is always where the athletes are getting arrested there is a theory floated out there by not one but two production members who said maybe Jeff darlington's making the call wow Inside Job it does kind of make you wonder how is he there and you can control if you're there if you're someone that's uh say a whistleblower of sorts but uh if you're someone that's alerting people you know you're going to be there let's not go to air with that let's the not do that I feel a little likey making light about this like that video is really really really tough to watch it's pretty horrible what happened oh you say it's really really tough to watch and uh I say yes it's appalling but also not surprising in any way like it's how I imagined it going when before I had any information at all on this other than Tyreek Hill has been arrested outside the stadium that confirms what I already believed without any details now that I have the details it's it's one of the things that's sort of startling to me while not being numbing that that's not surprising to me even as it's appalling I think the thing that I'm surprised at is that they released the body cam footage this easily I don't know Greg if you know like the legal route that maybe they would have had to go to if they didn't put this out right away but I I was surprised because it seemed like right off the bat they did not want this but but Jessica I I do believe that what happened here the police have to behave here cuz everybody was watching yes we all got there before the coverup could happen and it's the worst place they could have done this it's surrounded by dolphin fans like there there is no move after this where you you you lock in and it's like code blue we're not saying anything you can't have look the police have plenty of power in the Market but so do the Dolphins like this isn't them going up against an individual this is a statement being released by the Dolphins that's as strong as any sports statement that's been made in this town since Pat Riley told Danny a to shut the up but true or false the this uh body cam footage is is way way way worse than any of the Snippets of videos that fans took before the game a th% people were saying we got to wait for more details and then the details that we got in the body cam was solidified a lot of people's fears this is the thing though the dolphin security staff is all EX cops like the the people you have to understand what a powerful thing the police just went up against here the Dolphins will sniff this out and your body cam footage will be released whether you want it released or not so transparency is the way you have to go it's why the Dolphins are saying what if it weren't Tyreek Hill the this gets the truth gets out into the the light because it's Tyreek Hill well that's one of my that's one of the interesting things surrounding all this the Dolphins invoked something that's basically become a meme on the internet what if his name wasn't Tyreek Hill and it's coming from a lot of people surrounding the NFL and a lot of people who uh I remember their stances on Colin Kaepernick Colin Kaepernick his whole deal was telling you what if it isn't Ty Hill and look at how that was received and look how how this is received it's quite differently Tyreek hill now finds himself with a ton of public allies where Colin Kaepernick did not this a scene like that has to come out every single time it always has to be shown because it's instructive and it's educational because there's millions of white people like me who've never suffered that kind of prejudice and that kind of treatment in a traffic stop and and to see a young black guy driving a two $100,000 car be put through what he went through even if he was speeding is is just it it's instructive we white people everywhere have to realize that black people go through some of this Prejudice and some of this a lot worse it's also white Hispanics look I've been pulled over a couple times by police here it's never been an enjoyable experience despite uh hands on 10 and two being as respectful as possible the treatment from my my experience speaking Direct to my experience with law enforcement officials they're never really super kind to me and I have to be ultra nice for things not I'm the one in this situation that has to deescalate when they're the ones apparently trained in this we can we can talk about personal experiences although I really don't want to I too was arrested for sarcasm the thing that I would ask you guys though is legitimately are you allowed to be surprised by this because it feels like if you're surprised by this video you have not been paying attention at all to what's been happening in America as we head to another voting cycle like I really asked the question sincerely are you allow like hey white people like they ran cernick they ran him out of the league like for saying hey white people like I don't know how surprised you're allowed to be by this video because Rodney King was a long time ago like the the lessons of King what's what is that is that late 80s yeah early 90s it's we should also outline it's not just white people it's law enforcement officials there's a Prejudice with law enforcement officials in this video from what we can tell mostly Hispanic police officers it's there there is a huge issue with policing in this country there's a huge issue with policing in Miami Dade County and I'm hopeful this will bring about change but it's worse than it's ever been if you're following because Miami you know that as soon as we got got a police chief who wanted to clean it up they ran him right out of here it has to be the most corrupt thing there is in policing the police we have here when someone gets here with the reputation of I'll fix it starts to fix it and they run him out quickly because we're ahead of the of the the rest of the United States on the bad [ __ ] that happens down here see it's a progress though Dan it this goes totally different five years ago we don't have body cams 5 years ago or I was happy to learn that the body cams were on because also something in many high-profile instances of police alleged police abuse but they had no idea one of the defaults is we don't have our body cams on so there have been growing pains along the way and as sad as this video is it does Mark some progress man that's a minimal progress yeah yeah but it's you're you're it's you're you're asking to you're asking to change a lot okay but I'm tired of baby steps here come on like to to salute what I just saw as some sort of progress noting not saluting it but it it baby Sepp or not there is progress over the last five years in that we have now a video and the system isn't going to protect itself and just uh just Lin up behind that thin BL if it happens to happen in an unprecedented fashion to a dolphin outside a stadium Mike if they knew it was Tariq Hill when they approached the car do you think the body cams are on do you still think they're on I man I don't I there I don't know it's a fair question right I don't know I don't know enough about it I just know other instances in which body cams cops did have body cams and the body cams weren't on conveniently enough we still don't even know if these people are going to get punished or not though right like I think one of them is on administrative leave but that we don't know what the repercussions will be and generally there aren't very many well I think though I let's think let's think about this for a second because I think this set of ingredients guarantees it because what I'm telling you about the Dolphins and who they have in security make it so if Tyreek Hill wishes to actually deescalate it from here he can by saying it's not what he wants but once we get into Tyreek Hill the Dolphins and Drew rosenhouse pushing the full force of momentum of this is what I want it become something I I I guess I would hesitate to guarantee it only because of how much Mal feance I have seen police officers get away with over time where I think punishment would be obvious but rarely are they going up against something that is just as powerful as they are the way that they're going up against it in this one instance I thought you guys you three did an exceptional job interviewing Drew who certainly came to this interview with an agenda had his scripted plays at the top and then by the end of it he was addressing the the the possibility of suing these officers and and already kind of speak peing out some of the damages that had already happened so that was a really good job I didn't I didn't arrive at they're going to suffer penalty until the later part of that interview where I'm like oh they're they're seeking like legitimate discipline here potentially professionally though the system generally protects these guys and it doesn't make headlines but a lot of these people become contractors uh or or find themselves in a related security field often hired by the the police forces that they're suspended from yeah they may end up with the dolphins I'm I'm I I doubt I think this one would rule these officers out with the dolphins but the system generally protects these these these individuals that uh from all appearances abuse their power the only thing about this whole thing that truly surprises me is that Old people love that s**t! Tyreek Hill was not recognized right away and didn't have a police officer pat him on the back say have a good game and maybe ask for a selfie with him it's outrageous that they knew who this guy don't get me wrong they did know originally it was but eventually they did and preferential treatment is not beyond the police just like abuse of power isn't oh Tyreek Tyreek has seen the value in being Tyreek Hill in plenty of brushes with law enforcement and allegations I mean he's seen the benefit of that and it's been a pretty this just adds to what has already kind of been a weird tumultuous off seon for for Tyreek Hill I think it was pretty telling it was one little snippet and it was hard to to pick up I'm going to use the f- word here so let's mark it but like when they they get the license and they present it to that officer and the officer says in one word everything you need to know they keep moving on but right then and there after they treated Tyreek and his teammates a certain way they find out that information and they don't really have they don't really have sympathy for their actions leading up to that point they feel bad because they just realized damn it this is going to come back to our bosses we just did this to a Miami Dolphin player the truth is about to come out is what that realization is in a single word that there's not going to be a way to uh Slither around the truth getting out in front of everybody because honest to God it is the safest place that t Tyreek Hill's home has been on fire right Ty Hill is not necessarily safe at home something didn't something happen his in his backyard influencer that went down with yeah like like this he is not just merely St God it's not merely that it's Sun day it's right before the game and it's the stadium it's that the entire dolphin headquarters is adjacent to that Stadium like there is no place that they could do this the idea that this has arrived in Miami as the the Kaepernick extending echoing story that it would land literally and physically at their door step and now the Dolphins have to fight for their own right against a against a police force that has that that is going to get pushed around on where the truth resides because it's going to be so impossible to cover this up when everyone's seen it when you ask are we allowed to be surprised I think people would say the only thing they're surprised about is those cops who they're there to protect people who are going to the Dolphins game um that those cops did not know that that was Tariq Hill that is that is shock I'm with Greg that is shocking to me they didn't know and it's said yesterday if you're Tariq if they don't know that you're Tariq Hill right next to the stadium you have to drive around with your jersey on and a helmet I mean you do I also think it should be emphasized this isn't just the Dolphin's best player this is the guy very recently voted the number one player in the entire NFL that footage we w we watched is equivalent can you imagine if LeBron James is the one down on the pavement being cuffed or Patrick Mahomes I mean well he's not the he's not the biggest star in the league he might be ranked on Merit think a star that team I I agree but but but stature wise uh he is a superstar in this sport that's not really relevant no one should be treated that way no you're right but but that's why this is such a big deal to me that's why two days before they're playing the Buffalo Bills and what will probably be their biggest game of the season we're still talking about Tyreek Hill because it is that big a deal it should be a big deal is deserving of all this because he's famous though it's the action it's not the famous person in the middle of the AC it's both it's both if if he were a guy who worked at a clerk as a clerk in a 7-Eleven uh the the the the the footage would be just as alarming and just as bad but it wouldn't be getting this kind of attention it's what happened and it's to whom it happened so you're saying if it had happened with uh Billy's personal Nemesis on the Dolphins you're you're saying Jason Sanders if it had been Sanders no Sanders if it had been the kicker kicker why is that the Nemesis of I'm just saying like like I imagine Braxton beros getting pulled over and he's signing autographs giving out J the Nemesis of Billy is Jason Sanders he's still going after him on God bless Football let's get the video and audio of Billy still has his eye even after a one and0 start still has his eye on Jason Sanders does but that's that jam D that damn Jason Sanders and don't get me started on him the Dolphins kicker because the Dolphins should have covered that game and they didn't because he missed another kick I don't know why he's still on his team we don't need to get into that today Billy he kicked the game winner yeah he kicked the game winner and they needed it because he missed a kick earlier an easy like 42 yard I I I'm not going to say I can kick a 42 y because I'm not an NFL kicker but there's plenty of people that can they do it on game day they got like high school kids out of the crowd and they do it on game day get out of here what was what was the game winner how long was that irrelevant no it's not it I think it was shorter no it was long it was long it was it was a it was a 50 plus yarder irrelevant though hit him during the game we don't have we can't continue with this guy we cannot continue with this guy a game that he almost lost you don't get credit Billy's been holding on to this for a full season no I know had the same feels pent up listen it's an odd guy to keep his eye onas happening too someone needs to I don't know what McDaniel's up to that he's not paying attention but if I have to be the guy paying attention to him I will be we're not getting into this today we will waste the entire seg been talking about this let's not do this Cowboys got a kicker like off the street been incredible who by the way hit a 66 y yesterday that was negated by an offensive penalty headed into the half rare is the day we criticize the field goal kicker after he hits a game-winning 52 yard field goal I mean no you need you need to no that guy gets 10 years usually I mean no anyway Juju put it on the poll please at levitar show is it the same controversy if Jason Sanders had been the one arrested they shouldn't have treated Jason Sanders that way either but if he missed the game they shouldn't treat you're more okay with him getting arrested no I'm no no one should be treated that way all right but but the answer to your question is is no right I mean you I no I will acknowledge of course I will acknowledge that the fame of the person involved has something to do with it but the action to me is larger than whatever the reaction is how's Sanders still on this team not to do this now and try to derail this not why is he still on this team he won them the game he almost lost them the game enough that he won them the game chpp thank you thank you Dan thank you but he the one that matters is firing no it only mattered because he missed the other one right he set himself up he blew a save to get himself a win that's not how this works he uh he set the house on fire in order to put out heason also this guy is going to cost him when it matters you guys keep forgetting that guys eyes on the prize you need to do it all the time just saying oh it's week one oh then he hit a 15 to win doesn't matter we need consistency yeah we need a something no Jessica why do you look so sad I mean I I wonder she she heard Jason Sanders name that's what it was you know what it is right now though Billy I was watching the end of the Dolphins Jaguars game with my my sister and my brother-in-law who are basically like the equivalent to aliens from outer space when it comes to knowing anything about sports and I was trying to act like I I knew like I had some insight and I was like he's not going to make this cuz I've heard you guys this guy all the time it's not you guysbody everybody saying you walk around the streets people pull me aside they say Jason Sanders Chris I'm I'm Pro Jason Sanders it's just Billy but dolphin fans don't trust him they shouldn't well I I think I can say that sometimes I walk down the street and people say are you wearing a Marlin hat I said yeah and they go oh don't the Dolphins play in that same city I'm like yeah and they're like that Jason Sanders is he really bad at kick I'm like yeah how'd you know no one has ever said control room hates him and they're all dolphins I'll admit that he's he has bad misses on his resume but he all like he's one of these kickers that you can't fully trust him but he can he's good kicker whoa I mean what happened there what is that he is anyways I go he's going to miss this and then he drills it and the whole bar is cheering and I'm like he missed it earlier he missed it earlier that was a long one for him to his credit I think he's like six of six now on like 50 plus yard field goals in like game-winning situations it's the other ones he just seems unfocused or something I don't know what his deal is so you could sum me on this you have two kickers one who handles everything inside of 50 yards and Jason Sanders com for the long ones that's fine he could be the kicking closer but we need like a kicking middle reliever or something because this guy between the first quarter and the fourth quarter is a nightmare I give Billy credit for zigging when other zag who for timing his criticism of the place kicker right after he has kicked a game-winning field goal anybody can criticize him after he's the go of a game thank you but it takes a man's man to criticize after a game-winning field goal or a woman's woman exactly as the case may be no discrimination thank you for the clarification kick save and ab well which which would it be like why is it a man's man or a woman's woman or it can be either either or why does it have to be one or the other D well well he made it man's man and then it seems like he just corrected it to woman's woman and I don't feel like I've ever heard that phrase before no I just made it up Greg how's your birthday going so far I invented it it's going fantastic um my wife and I are are staying home tonight we're watching the the debate on TV we're going to want do something special for dinner it's a it's a nice day for me so far my right here that sounds like a not a super nice night the debate old people love that yeah that's exactly right yeah that's exactly right old people do love that and I'm old now I can't deny it anymore so you think you think a wonderful way to celebrate your 70th birthday happy birthday to him I don't care good luck is to romantically get together with your wife settle in uh around uh a presidential debate that promises to be horrifying because at least one of the participants has uh settled into deep into demena yes yeah but only one um at least one yeah yeah at least one um no it she and I had the the the Romantic nice dinner a few nights ago and uh and now last night we go out the damn I can't watch the Monday Night Football game on my own TV because of this Netflix thing so um we went DirecTV what do you mean what do you mean watch what do you what's happening he has Direct TV obviously right yeah and we found out why did you mention Netflix I don't know potato potato you don't know how to find the football game or you do not have a tele Vision that can bring you ESPN tonight well what happened was this is embarrassing to admit uh my wife and I are watching the first half in a local unnamed restaurant uh and the game is on and we figure out actually she figured it out I didn't that the whole time the game was on ABC correct and and she's thinking it wasn't she's thinking that because of this strike or whatever the conflict is that we couldn't watch the game at home but you're looking for it on Netflix uh wherever she finds it you know she does all the channels and everything to him all streaming is Netflix yes no I mean I just you know 47 and 10 you know let's get back to simple channels that makes sense did you go out for dinner so you could see the game because you couldn't get it at home because I had to tell my wife the same thing hey it's on ABC oh dear God I know but we didn't figure it out in time so you couldn't wait a minute Monday Night Football right tonight you're going to go looking for it on Netflix no I misspoke when I said Netflix I was going to go looking for it on wherever it is that's feuding in this uh you know back and forth between the two entities you know I don't keep track of all that uh okay I'm sorry so Monday Night Football last night is what I meant last night uh you you just could not find it uh we found it in a local bar all right you realiz you often find happiness in a local bar don't you right and later we found out that we could have been home all the time put it on the poll please Juju do you you often find happiness in a local bar at Lear show did you stay till like 11:45 when it ended no we just stayed to watch the first half and then we came home and uh she went to bed and I stayed up for the whole game because I need I don't want to complain and I don't want to [ __ ] about fantasy you know if you're not into fantasy football you don't want to hear this but I needed 10 points from the 49ers defense to win that game you got it and no I had it and then in the last minute Tyrod Taylor he'll do that to you garbage time is throwing a touchdown pass and costing me the victory it's an outrage garbage time they shouldn't even allow those uh useless points in fantasy I should have won that game I may protest it to my league Miami Miami PD just sent out a tweet at 10:00 a.m. which suggests this was a scheduled tweet with an image there Billy that plays on Fast and the Furious it says going fast put puts lives on the line speeding is much more than the law the consequences greater greater potential for loss of vehicle control increased stopping distance increased degree of Crash severity well help me uh with what is going to happen next here are there indeed because I've seen this but I don't know how valid the reports are in watching how people are reacting to getting behind the police here on that video I I remind you again the divisions in America Run Deep here I have seen seen people who will politicize anything already say he was driving 100 miles an hour like and so I don't know what's true Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic always a good faith commenter has come out in support of the the police officers saying this video should be shown how black men should not be treating the police I don't know what is true and what's not true on this side of things but the police if they're going to defend themselves against Drew rosenhouse Tyreek Hill and that Miami Dolphin statement and they're going to choose division because Drew came on here rosenhouse came on here talking about not escalating it but it gets escalated when you're talking about we want those officers disciplined and if the police get their backup and decide we're going to start our part of the campaign now and it's true that he was driving a 100 miles hour which I've not seen verified anywhere but Drew and Tyreek killer saying I did nothing wrong I regret nothing I would like to know what the truth is there before it gets politicized in the body cam footage it's still unclear as to what the offense was from Tyreek Hill I was actually hoping for some clarity on that Tyreek ask kind of and we don't really get an answer so I'm not exactly sure what still cause all this Drew did make a good point when he said if you've been around that Stadium at that time right before for game on University Drive essentially it's impossible to get your car to 100 m hour it's not easy around there uh it is a crowded area but not as crowded at 10:00 a.m. yeah um I think it's important to note that he was ticketed for reckless driving and speeding and I have heard no one including Drew rosenhouse dispute that and say we're not going to pay those fines we're not going to pay a ticket he shouldn't have gotten that speeding ticket the whole issue is what happened afterward okay not the he was speeding and was ticketed for it but what happened afterward where all of a sudden he's face first on the asphalt being cuffed behind his back this is behind the bit this is behind the bit this is behind the bit Behind the Bit: Greg breaking the news of Dan's engagement! for the past 20 years you've seen and heard bits on The Dan LeBar show you may have wondered to yourself what are these bits and what's wrong with these people and what comes over me when my head falls to the table was Mike Ryan saying I'm sure this is exactly how Valerie would have wanted everyone to get the news that you are marrying her what wow wait a minute quite the scoop Greg Cody of the Miami heral has put in the Miami heral then a lifelong bachelor Dan lebatard he's put this in the Miami Herold how what does the article say there is Major personal news for ESP 's Dan levard he's been keeping it secret here it is that's the headlight there is his son of course laughing harder than anybody at what a jerk a journalist jackass his father is one of South Florida's most steadfastly unmarried men a guide People magazine once called one of America's most eligible bachelors is no is available no more Dan lebatard is off the market wow the popular Miami based ESPN radio and television host who just signed a 4-year contract extension with the network he's covered me like an athlete why is he talking about you like he doesn't know you he's covering me like an athlete lebatard former Miami heral sports columnist has not yet announced his engagement publicly on either of his ESPN platform Su got just texted me congratulations a big day suot just texted me congratulations right now while sitting next to me and hearing this story sources close to the couple tell us levard popped the question dur a recent vacation in Kenya and Tanzania a safari organized by Zoo Miami's Ron McGill a weekly regular on Dance radio show no Dan met Valerie a lifelong Miami and two years ago noticing her walking through a restaurant at which his parents Gonzalo Poppy and lordes were celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary Dan is 49 by the way his bride to be is 29 your best wishes and or snorky comments go here unbelievable listening to it back that he did that is it it remains yes it remains unbelievable but I can't look at my expression there I can't be mad at that person no matter what he does what he did was he did his job okay that's what a journalist does he takes his friend's private information and he shares it with the world that's what he does no no that's not journalism it's a betrayal it's an outright betrayal I've never been prouder of greet Cody what's the matter with you dude what do you mean I reported the truth very accurate super duper accurate detail accur and a lot of detail a lot of detail andal betrayal yes the magic is in the Betrayal it's not in the details this is how it all came out I was learning right here and look at my face Frozen on the screen now does it seems like I'm enraged look at me St did you know beforehand or were you really finding out there I had no idea no Greg broke the news to me that's why I congratulated Dan beia Tex I was happy and and listening back to it I realized because I hadn't seen the video that stugots was congratulating me by text while sitting right next to me of course I thought he was I thought he was texting in from elsewhere when I was just hearing the audio in the room how upset was Dan really oh he was pissed and uh a lot of that piss uh kind of uh was on behalf of Valerie because like if you're a man uh if you're a semif famous man and you want people to you want to surprise people about this you know engagement your friend who also works in newspapers should not be unbelling said surprise without your permission and that's what happened did you have any idea your dad was going to write that article no clue I knew that he wanted that scoop cuz I think he knew that it was coming but no I remember seeing it come across our Twitter me and Billy cuz Billy In that clip explains hey something just happened I just I can to this day remember the feeling of oh my God he did it I started getting selfish I started worrying about my job I was like is he this is Big my dad may have just cost me my job you you remember that I remember texting you yeah oh yeah you were pan terrified were Panic did he give you like I was like trying to get him like unveil that it was all a bit I'm like please tell me Dan let you do this or he's just like no I just went with it I'm like oh my God I I think my thinking at the time was I knew I was revealing it to the general public but I assumed that Dan had already informed everyone in his inner circle privately I'm sweating just thinking back to that day okay well you survived a kid Greg do you think the reason that you're more willing to go for it is you trust in your relationship with Dan no I I try to strike that balance uh I I know my friendship with with Dan is is long enough and deep enough to survive something like this um and and honestly I think he genuinely was shocked and and initially upset that I did this uh but but I think some of it after that became a little bit of show stick you know I I think he was upset genuinely and surprised I think he was pretty upset does Greg often go Rogue not like that he's never done that but here's the worst part of it he was rewarded for it got more clicks than any story he's ever written that somehow is the biggest news story uh Greg Cody has ever broken no joke know your friends man I mean it's your fault you told Greg what did you expect Greg to do with that when you told him you know him he's your best friend I did not expect him to put it in the newspaper I did because it's a betrayal so many clicks though that too yeah no it was good for business on my end and I've never denied that I said earlier that uh you know the levitar show is sort of a beat that I cover in a way what Dan does is newsworthy to my readers that it was the birth of you becoming a click [ __ ] well that that like that like ever since then you've just been what can I write like you saw the clicks from the the proposal thing from the engagement and you just since then what can I write that will get the most clicks how did Valerie take it she found it funny she generally finds very funny whenever I'm the butt of the J joke that's one of her favorites and Billy yeah well you know what you're still married right what is that well you know it proves that I didn't throw a wrench into the whole uh thing I mean everything worked out great you're welcome I could say I mean you know I mean you know thank you so I should be thanking you for betraying me you know I saved you the stamps on uh sending out the message to everyone that uh you probably would have email I don't know how you would have broken the news if it weren't for me you probably would have said it on the air what's the difference between me reporting it in in the Miami heral and you mentioned it on the show I sco that's why you're sore I sco you no it would have been nice for my wife to be able to tell people the way that she wanted to tell people oh but she knew it's not like I surprised her with the news yes she did know you didn't surprise her you simply betrayed her as well you didn't surprise her you you also surprised her in betraying her but you didn't surprise her that we were engaged true yeah I wouldn't call it a betrayal I think that's a little strong what's the word you would use uh you know just reporting the news in this case I was happy happy to break the good news the the good news involving one of my best friends and and and a lovely bride to be I was happy to break that news was very proud that I did and uh you were sore at first but you know you've gotten over our friendship survived you enjoyed writing that last and Dan is 49 by the way his bride to be is 29 your best wishes and or snorky comments go here I did enjoy it though that was it was a nice little touch you know you want the you want the Dismount to like be a little humorous or and and so that worked for me yeah because because it it was it did read sort of like a new news story and and it read like like I like Christopher said it read like I was writing about someone who I didn't even know let alone was good friends with so um we had a little uh we had a little tweak a little smirk at the end a little little really as fine a work as you have ever done all all things considered you know what that may be an exaggeration but I'm going to take it it it's probably one of the most noteworthy that and my trade Marino call are probably the two things that and and calling Conor McDavid over that's my that's my gold silver and bronze so we're pretty happy about that do you guys not trust Greg now uh it's getting to the point where we're going to have to feed him fake news to avoid uh any any of these things happening again did you know Chris was going to have this reaction Greg no but he he tends to be a little panicked whenever anything like that come you know I could name a myriad of of other things I've written where he gets a little nervous and uh you know just a million examples when I when I reported that Stan Van gundy's wife had passed away he didn't want me to do that either even though it was newsworthy and and became big news uh but you know he he's he's a little nervous when it comes to stuff that he thinks might make Dan upset imagine that he's my boss all right well he's you know whatever we all survived it it's okay they're happily married thanks to me no I'm not taking any credit don't worry about that and ultimately I don't think I would have just betrayed what he wanted or didn't want me to do I didn't tell him uh but but honestly ask for forgiveness not permission okay yeah I I haven't asked for forgiveness a happy 70th birthday to uh Greg Cody uh he has decided on this day Why is there an asscrack on the ACC commemorative coin? to give us the gift of a back in my day uh it is a sort of fresh back in my day uh he's going to read one from his book as a thanks for all the support uh so far we've got dueling book promotions right now because Greg's book will be out October 29th couple of books cutting it up and he'll read one more back in my day next week if the book cracks the top 100 of all books on Amazon which seems like a big ass ultimat big ass wow and if the book by some miracle gets to be the number one overall book on Amazon then there will be some giveaways like signed copy shirts maybe even an invite to his party so he's actively trying to bribe people to buy his book to get an invitation to his 70th birthday party yeah that has to be vetted by my wife she hasn't quite agreed to that yet she's in charge of the guest list so if you're not invited to my party and I know you blame her uh if you're invited to my party and you really don't want to go blame her as well isn't that in like two weeks so people need to act fast on this they need to act fast buy books uh they're on pre-order uh back in my day and uh that kind of thing uh well promoted as always just petered out we will get to a fresh sort of fresh back in my day from that book he wrote three of them we will get to the uh promoting of stugotz's book which finally has words in it yes there are word I see a book with words in it uh he not many of them are mine but there are words in that book this is evidently a gift there are not many copies yet and this is a uh well something called a gley Dan I know like you wouldn't know that you're not an author you're not a writer I am it's called a galley that is a book they sent to me they sent me 10 copies and they asked me to hand them out to people who are very special in my life and so because it's Greg Cody 7th birthday I wanted to give the first one to Greg Cody who wrote a chapter in this book and also announc that right now starting right now if you go to stugots book.com and you pre-order you will get two bonus chapters of my personal record book and if you already ordered a different pre-order we will honor that as well you just have to fill out the form at stugots book.com and you get two bonus chapters courtesy of me how about that so you had two people write chapters for your book that aren't included in versions of the book well they're my takes yeah so we had bonus chapters it's a bonus chapter it's a pre-order incentive Billy you know what I'm saying stot book.com by the way also does that book have any marking on it like pre-published anything cuz like it says on it Advance uncorrected proofs and it says on sale 11262 24 G don't yeah don't give away the giys if there's only 10 of those they're more valuable sign those and sell them for more money I understand but Greg means a lot to me it's his 70th birthday I want his book to do well I want my book to do well I want both of our books to do very very well and I wanted to give the first copy to Greg Cody he contributed to the book I think you make a deal here you give him one of your GS for one of his and then you still have 10 G you can give away G swap swap have cutting it up I see there's another gift in here as well for Greg there seem to be some lotto tickets here it's a Mega Millions I believe it's 800 million I spent $100 on Greg it's tonight by the way $100 uh on Greg for his birthday very nice and I will tell you if you win 8020 my way check the date on those Dano cuz those could be old I got him yesterday I know but make sure it's the draw that's for today it's the draw for tonight 8020 5050 wait a minute it says here 99 of 23 yeah when's the drawing tonight is yesterday listen if you know Mega Million Friday it's 24 is the year unbelievable damn it thin how well anyway the book is real there are words in it there I saw writing that is real in that I'm reading actual actual writing it's not by stats it's by other people but thoughts uh they are not well some I didn't read any thoughts of his I read Andre Dawson's thoughts but oh that was great Hawk Greg what are you doing uh I was looking for my chapter but can you read us the table of contents that might be a good tease it's a long table of contents what is that it's a sizable book worth every penny of it but this I can't believe we've gotten this far the book now exists in some form uh and I will read a couple of the things number uh chapter 16 evidently is the compiler ah the compiler that's all you know about it that's it a good it could be about anyway literally all he wrote on it all he knows ofer yeah the whole chapter do you know anything about your own books to guys you wrote a great forward Stan Van Gundy contributed Tim Kirin Greg Cody Mina Kim Scott Van Pelt Who's Who and Andre Dawson did Taylor write any of this book no he didn't he didn't he's a Jeter guy chapter eight is point fraud got let you know that o the Chris Paul chapter yes yeah good I think you guys will do a better job guessing than stat what these chapters are about uh I didn't name the chapters that wasn't you know I was you do anything well yeah listen I've been signing things non-stop I have uh what's it called carple tunnel or something like that I mean I am signing you really yes oh man how are you playing golf I don't I'm not I have thousands of things designed hand starts hurting from writing that doesn't mean you have carpal tunnel syndrome what does it mean it just just means your hand is sore man just means I'm putting my hand to use yeah hell yeah chapter 17 ah doozy what is it you tell us not going to take a quiz the truth will set you spree ah spree well what did you write that was spre well related he you got to buy the book Dan I don't want to give it away he has no idea what's in his own stugots book.com you pre-order you get two bonus chapters one about Caitlyn Clark how about that oh wow yeah topical who wrote the rebuttal to Caitlyn Clark uh no rebuttal on the bonus chapters none well the bonus chapters aren't appearing in the book They're bonus chapters if you if you buy the book today you get two additional chapters that no one else get are you just going to email people they're not in the book The Two bonus chapters aren't in the book I'm not certain how random house is going to do it but they uh they've done this before Dan so I'm told and so they have it figured out a Le flip maybe like a newsletter perhaps are you doing an audio book like are you reading I am doing an audio book eventually you doing the audiobook it will have my voice on it yes oh you still didn't commit are you using AI to dub your your audio book no no you just said it will have my voice how do I do that somebody will do it for him uh maybe it'll be Chad GPT um uh Jessica Chad uh I want to uh talk about uh this commemorative coin uh the ACC has put out uh have you seen this stugots because um I tals I can't can we zoom in a little bit video team okay Eric wood posted this yesterday and said it was the a coin given to one of his buddies after the coin toss at the Louisville game and I said is this real and he said yes so we're going with that that's my reporting for the day apparently this was the coin that used in the coin toss and if you look Clos you can see I mean wow that is a coolo Dan yeah it it does look like an [ __ ] but it also I I it it looks like something pornographic it has to be like an optical illusion where it's actually something else and we're all just looking at it wrong but no it's that looks like female genitalia for the audio audience dad why don't you paint the picture you don't have to rub that portion video te I'm not really sure what you're doing paint the picture dad I don't even want to look at that picture that coin let's Zo how is this real it shouldn't be well like what is this supposed to be so it's if you flip it upside down it's you know a guy snapping the football there you go s it's still bad that is somehow worse why are we seeing the crack of his ass that's a good question um I legitimately thought it was legs up in the air I guys I see wa really that's the goal post off in the distance we got it guys we got it no I think you could zoom in a little bit B further if you're listening to this right now and you can't see it I tweeted I retweeted it yesterday it's a sort of like a embossed coin with what appears to be a football player snapping a football but it's a a angle shooting up from underneath the turf into the grundle area so it's very graphic and I think you're right stugots that is supposed to be a goalpost however this was apparently tals and it looks like an H which is also very confusing and another reason why I don't think this is very one of the funny things about this is that we showed it uh and I encourage the audio audience to go find this on YouTube because of how funny this is what you initially showed me Jessica because I also didn't know that it was upside down I thought it was some sort of ram of some sort ready to have sex like the that I didn't us through that real quick yeah let's Matthew Stafford The Shack test the the head of the RAM do you not see the horns maybe put on the big board behind Dan and he can walk I thought it good idea Billy is theall the head of the ram in this picture for you yes I see yes I see a sort of a Greek mythological uh RAM of some sort that is really ready Legs up in the air for either gynecological uh Gynecology uh exam or no stirups easy for you to say or just getting ready for yes legs thrown up in the air not in stups getting ready for sex that's what I saw white and yellow for everyone or blue and black Dan there's a there's a picture behind you on the big video board if you want to sort of show us what the horns are tell yeah take us through Dan yeah he's walking to the board that's the horn that's the horn football that's self-explanatory it's not it isn't some people can't find what you're looking for it's just I don't see a bull yeah it's just I got to be honest I see a [ __ ] I think that's the penis I see Kermit the Frog now somehow good on you for finding it though Mike hello Ron hello how you doing Chris doing well sir we're about Ron Magill has thoughts on the Chimp Crazy lady! to get going here it's Greg's birthday it is Greg's birthday the actual birthday what are you kidding me it's Greg's birthday it is how did I just find this out yeah now you know kind of dumb turkey do you think I am I was going to put on a little birthday hat and streamers all kinds of stuff but I thought I'd be too much over the top for you guys you weren't going to do that I mean I was going to do that I swear I was going to do it are you attending his birthday party of course I am we hope so huh we hope so I wouldn't miss that birthday party for the world I want to see if you're gonna be attending Us St gots I already said yes plus one know you said yes you said yes a lot of things that don't show up stugots did actually RSVP successfully with his plus one with his wife I I don't know if he's going to show up but he rsvped I plan on being there I mean I'll believe it when I see it but that goes you're doubting you won't be able to get off buddy won't be able to get off you're on a boat yeah uh well I don't like boats I will tell you that right now I am not a big fan of boats there's a lot of people slinging their commitments around and I just need to make sure both Greg Cody and Ron McGill are committed to attending the first battle Court game of the season that fans are allowed to attend Friday night I was going to ask you did we do a draft this year how did that go we did and we have a guy on the team named Ron highlight player named Ron wow he went 2 and0 in his match they were presently second in the standings we took a lot of chances and really reshaped this roster so far paying immediate dividends it looks like the Cyclones are poised for a playoff run uh Greg if there's a that's what I want to hear Brother that's what I want to hear but I will be there all I got the email from Sandy if there's a highly player and his name is Ron I assume he's bad at highly yeah I do too is that fair yeah I mean I don't know what you're doing there cuz Ron Ron affectionately known as Ron Ron Ron Ron comes from changes everything yeah from highight royalty has a has a comes his father runs a highi Academy in Southeast Asia the the dude he's a coach's kid yeah the the dude knows how to play and he came in really sharp really in shape and we're really excited for how he fits in with the rest of this roster whatever happened to Joey Joey was a highlight player from the 1980s yeah let's bring him back he he's 64 it's okay so it's all right age is just a number man exactly not not in athletics it age generally matters as he witnessed last night you're right yeah Ron we have a really important question for you so last week on mystery crate we were talking about Sig freed and Roy the famous Vegas act tiger trainers yes exactly and Taylor our esteemed colleague his parents almost took him to the show in which Roy was attacked by one of the Tigers Manor um however they were tired in jet leg so they didn't go and he didn't see an event that likely would have changed his entire life as we were researching this incident we read on Wikipedia that Roy had a stroke the night of the incident and Roy claims that the tiger knew he was having a stroke and was trying to save him by dragging him off the stage and uh other people involved in the situation said that's not true he had a stroke because of massive blood loss from being attacked by a tiger and it caused quite a quite a stir on myy crate we were not sure who to believe or or what happened so my question is what do you know about this incident and is it possible for a tiger to see someone having a stroke and try to save their life a tiger can see someone being incapacitated in one way or another I will say this that that tiger did not mean to kill Roy because if he meant to kill Roy he would have killed Roy instantly by grabbing him by the neck and killing him which is what the tiger does the fact that he kind of picked up Roy and dragged him off and by doing so caused that injury that you know kind of bled out and might have led to the stroke but the bottom line is that tiger was intending to kill Roy if it was intending to kill Roy I promise you Roy would have been dead in two seconds so the tiger was trying to escape a situation that was unknown to it when he saw Roy either fall or for whatever reason become incapacitated um and was picking Roy up and by doing so assuming you have to understand he doesn't look at Roy as Little Roy the human being he looks at Roy as a conspecific as as another tiger as part of the the pack so to speak even though tigers are solitary animals I understand that but in this this Arena that this tiger was living in Roy was kind of the head tiger you see and he was kind of helping helping is a bad word but he was trying to remove Roy from a situation where he saw Roy was not right um again he was not trying to kill Roy if he tried to kill Roy Roy would have been dead so you're saying it's plausible it's plausible that plausible okay it's plausible that the tiger saw something happened to Roy whether it's just simply falling down uh or having a stroke I don't know I'm not a medical expert but the tiger saw something in Roy I know it's it's been proven that yes Roy fell down whether he fell down because of a stroke whether he fell down because of he tripped or whatever but that caused a change in the routine put Roy in a compromised position and the tiger was just trying to remove that compromise remove him out of that compromised position again if the Tiger's picking up another tiger it doesn't do the damage that he does when he picks up a a small human being like Roy and that's what caused that catastrophic injury so how do we know in the moment when an animal's trying to help and when an animal's trying to hurt like harambe may have just been trying to help that child but instead harambe is no longer with us absolutely Billy and I know where you're going on this exactly harambe harambe didn't mean to hurt that child but harambe was dragging that child around as if he was another gorilla let me ask you something if it was your child and you saw this gorilla slinging this little boy back and forth against concrete walls in water and any second could smash his head against the concrete and now a gorilla may be able to sustain that kind of injury but that little boy could not so yes harambe was not trying to intentionally hurt that boy but it doesn't negate the situation that put that boy in a life-threatening position because harambe didn't understand his own strength there this was a tragic situation in many many different respects um so yes harambe I believe was never trying to intend to hurt that child but in doing what he would do with another gorilla could have easily killed that child why do animals not realize their size like that happens with dogs a lot right where they're like little puppies and then the dog like oh used to hide under the coffee table and then like this dog now is you know 250 pounds and still goes under the coffee table to ends up lifts the coffee table well first of all animals generally speaking do not even recognize themselves in a mirror they look in a mirror they don't recognize it's their own reflection very very only a handful of animals can do that you know Dolphins chimpanzees but most animals don't even recognize that which is why you get all those funny videos of you know dogs barking at the mirror or or fighting you know roosters slashing and attacking their own for reflection um but but the bottom line is this it all depends on the environment that you're raised in okay like I said those Tigers were basically raised by Roy they don't know how big they're getting how strong they're getting until they're put to the test it's the same you can do that with an elephant in the wild um you know Dan will will will will will confirm that we had this big elephant come at us and we didn't run away and that elephant said whoa why aren't you running away that if that elephant knew for one second how big and strong it was there wouldn't be a a question there but it stood back because go I don't really know and what these people I don't know maybe they could beat me up so these are all things animals are intelligent but they still don't self-recognized each other in the way that we do I I can relate I have a 90 PB dog that jumps on my wife like a like a little tiny lap dog it's it's amazing to see Ron uh I read a headline I don't know how to react to it I don't know what to feel about it so put it in perspective for me woolly mammoth de Extinction is nearing reality and we have no idea what happens next yeah you know we're going into down a very slippery slope there uh Greg it's one of those things where you know you talk about bringing back extinct species that didn't go extinct for any other reason other than Natural Evolution of the Earth this was not an animal that went extinct because humans went out and killed them okay this was just a change in the planet that was a natural change I think it's very very dangerous when we start fussing around with Mother Nature um as much as I would love to see alive woolly mammoth that's that's what what why would I love to see it for my own entertainment for my own own Fascination what good is that doing the Willie Mammoth what good is that doing the Earth for that matter it's just creating a curiosity thing it's like the freak Show you know when you used to go to the circus what good is it seeing uh you know the the bearded lady uh not doing her any good at all it's doing us this Fascination so I'd be very very careful now if it was species that became extinct because of our neglect because of our abuse that's a different story but this is a company that I listen again it's it's a fine line you're walking on here but they want to bring back extinct or endanger species okay I understand that but why did those species go extinct in the first place it may have been a very legitimate reason for the evolution of the planet itself and bringing them back may be setting us back away so you need to be careful with that and again are you bringing an animal back from Extinction just to make it the focal point now I know there's people going to say oh isn't that what you do in zoos all the time no it's not not good accredited zoos okay what we do is we have animals that are born under human care that are here as an insurance policy against an uncertain future in the wild because of humans because we're destroying habitat because we're we're hunting animals out of their natural habitat these are animals the willly mammoth is an animal that became extinct because of normal evolution of the planet there may be a good reason for that and bringing back a Willie Mammoth could open up another Pandora's Box so I'd be very careful and I'd be very very hesitant to support these these companies that are trying to do this because it's going to be a windfall for them MoneyWise can you imagine you be like a Willie Mammoth this belongs to us now and you have to pay this much to see it okay it's all about the money Greg and I I'm not a not a big fan of that Ron I'm curious if you have read or seen anything about the new documentary chimp crazy involving the famous chimp Tonka and what your thoughts are on that I have seen that um you know as I've always said extremism in any form is dangerous this woman is um an extremist to say the least um she's um she's playing with fire and she's doing something that is very very dangerous and trying to equate uh you know these these animals with with human children she said I love these animals more than I love my children that right there is a huge red flag but the way she treats these animals and the position she puts herself in I'll tell you there's several scenes that I saw on the first couple of shows where she's lucky that sh just doesn't reach your hand and just strain it right through the bars and you can tell when they get very upset um this is a very dangerous situation I think Tonka is probably still alive somewhere because this is the kind of woman that would uh you know do anything she could to protect her kid and you know I I I can relate to that kind of love but not for a chimpanzee and the and the and the perspective she's putting it into these animals should never be maintained as quote unquote pets they should not be dressed up in little onesies and put on with diapers listen that's something that oh God you had to put that picture up there please this is getting you know borderline Insanity um oh let me just she's a whack job okay she's an absolute whack job and when you watch the show you'll see what I mean I try to be as professional as I can in these types of things but when I see programs like this and I see a woman like this getting a platform where she's trying to convince people that this is normal it is not it's not only not normal it is dangerous and it's cruel to these animals as you can see the conditions that they're being kept in on those situations I love a pissed off Ron Mill starts calling people whack jobs Ron we appreciate it we will talk to you next week my friend all right brother we'll see you guys at the party soon battle Court Friday that's party he's referring to oh of course yes stugots after week one Dan Arlovski has Rodgers disappoints in Jets debut and the Browns need to take a look at Jameis! dared to go where I have not seen a whole lot of other human beings go where'd he go it is time to quote take a long and hard look end quote at jamus Winston in Cleveland oh wow oh my God I think he's right one week and a real huge epic disaster of a contract guys I don't know if you know this but I believe I have it right when I say the only Champion that there has been that is paying a quarterback more than 12% of its payroll is Patrick Mahomes like that's the entire list the amount of money that the Browns have put into this disaster is franchise crippling and to have in week two people not back away from Arlovski saying it's jamus time when you saw what happened with jamus got you understand the level of of disaster you're talking about at quarterback when you swap out jamus and IM immediately win the Super Bowl because all you did was eliminate his interceptions in Tampa Bay and you went from seven and nine to Tom Brady in Championship well you replaced him with Tom Brady so I mean in this case you're replacing Deshawn Watson with jamus Winston I understand uh your larger Point DeShaun Waton has been a below average Quarterback for quite some time now like he has like it's a bad contract no question about it we could talk about all the off the- field stuff there is some new news there now with DeShaun Watson he has been bad on the football F not only that though stugots I will say after watching your jets last night get dismantled by the 49ers that there is I don't know what that sound was I don't know dismantle I mean it was 32 to9 the Jets had a 7 to6 lead I mean 7 to3 lead then 7-6 and I mean okay like they they got beat up pretty good and I will tell you that first touchdown Drive Dan was the greatest Drive in Jets history all right after watching that I would say there is no greater value in the sport than nothing more important than having value at quarterback San Francisco can build that monster of a team and they're playing the Jets and you're like oh the Jets got all the money tied up in the quarterback and the 49ers don't and so they have players all over the field and don't have to have have the great expensive quarterback they did that without Christian mcaffrey last night amazing yes I've got Aaron Rogers takes but I'd like to revisit the deshun Watson thing before we Veer too far off of it because there was another allegation a lawsuit that had been reported on and the details are out on the internet and uh you should read that have some discretion before you do because this is being painted as a sexual assault uh allegation the details make it very C clear that what allegedly happened here was a rape that that is the allegation this is really vile really violent really terrible details that are going on there and now the football aspect of it because there were a lot of people that were ride or die with their Cleveland Browns and stuck with them and defended DeShaun Watson and a lot of people are now engaging in bad faith conversations it's like number 27 was a bridge too far for you and now this is conveniently being held up I would say pay attention to some of the sources reporting on this not specific to the lawsuit itself but the spin on how to get out from this contract explore some of those sources and how tied they might be to people in Cleveland's front office now it seems that there is going to be a reaction to this allegation that will be far more outsized than the previous brutal Brut previous allegations the the the the the coldness of what Mike is saying there stug yeah that the number of people who will defend this Behavior if they think their quarterback is good and then the Strategic leaking onu that makes you wonder are they trying to get out from under the contract because now everyone can see it's a horror and all in the middle of that the idea that women get trampled um man oh man it's it's pretty gross the Cutthroat cold calculation in that and the details in this story while Vivid and shocking do fall in line with many of the the almost countless allegations that deshun Watson had to settle out of and uh some of the reporting spin on this that I've seen is that this would be considered a whole new incident and and would not be grandfathered in with the previous NFL ruling on him and yes there is a possibility that Cleveland can get out from the worst contract in the history of pro sports and that is where people's minds first went we'll say he is still a monster this is an overwhelming amount of allegations things here are bad and always have been and just because you now have certainty that he can't be the guy that he once was you want to go out there on that island as you perceive it to be and now have an issue with it uh you miss me with all of that Cleveland should have never brought this individual in he should not be playing football this was only a matter of time when you consider the laundry list of allegations against him all of it was one of the worst chapters in the history of pro sports and Cleveland and their decision makers even if they get out from this contract are going tocate by and they shouldn't well to to underline your point though we're looking a lot at the latest allegation because it seems heinous but there were two or three dozen women a couple of years ago who lined up and told their stories about his misbehavior uh sexual misbehavior and so this is nothing new it's it's worse maybe in some ways and it's in it's recent but this guy's been a Scourge on the NFL brand for years now okay but we spent a lot of time talking about that contract and I will remind you the Dolphins the Dolphins were also interested in Deshawn Watson multiple teams were interested look we can do this again I'd rather not I'd just like to point out out to you that the Dak Prescott contract that was signed was purposefully $1 million more guaranteed than what was the precedent setting contract of deshun Watson that makes it such a disaster he in that desperation reset the entirety of the market and it's not a coincidence that it was exactly $1 million more that Dak got guaranteed than the biggest guarantee you've seen in the sport like the I the finances of this that make it so cold and awful that you're now like oh the Browns are going to try and see if they could sneak away from everything they did there when they shouldn't be allowed to sneak away from everything they did there the quarterback play last night The return of Back in My Day! stugots yep your New York Jets and a season of great hope as the as Netflix announces that December 17th is going to be the Aaron roders documentary called Enigma oh how long will this guy be silenced the Jets coming out yesterday and having to play that particular team I think is a really unfair spot to expect them to win in um that's fair the Niners are really good they went to the Super Bowl last year they could have won the Super Bowl last year I I can make the argument that the ners are absolutely the best team in football the last five years and Kansas City just has a better quarterback uh yeah you can make that argument but with Aaron Rodgers you saw glimpses of of his greatness you saw those couple of drives that he had you saw the pass to Lazard you saw Aaron roders I was impressed with Aaron Rogers and therefore I am hopeful my larger concern is the Jets defense the schedule gets easier now because they played the Niners as you pointed out I think it's the Titans on the road then the Patriots at home and then the commanders at home so we'll see what this jet team is going to be but I was okay with Aaron's performance I would like them to utilize him more I would like them to throw theall more my concern is the defense that defense has given up I think six of the last seven games 27 points or more and that's where my concern is and I am telling you right now Robert Salah you're in charge of that defense get it under control because if you don't and you lose at Tennessee you're going to get fired I have you deserve to be fired because the Jets if they start 0 and2 Dan that would be disastrous for this team yeah he's he's already way up there on the first coach fired betting ODS right Salah yeah and and and I'm thinking he's not going to last the season if they get off to a little bit of a start bad start but explain to me why the Jets defense is struggling because all estimations are that it's a top five defense what's wrong well they they Purge a lot of their defensive lineman they have reic waiting he's expecting a long-term deal I guarantee you he watched that game with a smile on his face like he's like hey you need me cuz they couldn't get a pass rush they could not get to Brock pie he had all the time in the world how did you inherit this hold out from this is so unfair to Jets fans well no he was very clear he said trade me I want a long-term deal so the Jets traded for him and he still doesn't have a long-term deal it is so Jets it really is there was a lot of uh less than acceptable quarterback play week one I don't know if you guys uh agreed with what Troy Amman was saying in the pregame uh leading up to Monday Night Football but like Joe burrow didn't look very good uh at at home against the Patriots uh the quarterback situation and the ire state of New York maybe a little sketchy on Sunday too and last night uh I don't know if this is because there's not as much preseason Reps for starters anymore because they've eliminated a preseason game and the starters just don't play very much now I I don't know what the cause is but I'm trying not to overreact too much to any of this because I was reminded uh this morning the Bengals they start the season like this every year like they've been pretty bad in September and so I'm trying to take it all with a grain of salt like Aaron Rogers did not look good in the first half it the offense was not able to move the ball at all but he had a couple throws that remind you like all right he is he's Aaron Rogers this is not not every single NFL quarterback is capable of making those that one drive man was so good well just to quantify your point NFL starting quarterbacks in week one averaged I think 185 yards passing which is really really low now that's probably an anomaly but you're right the quarterbacking was pretty brutal this week I don't think it's an anomaly we mentioned yesterday the downward trajectory passing touchdowns in week one over the lastu years they're in the 30s and in 2019 passing touchdowns were in the 60s to the Aaron Rogers Point historically whenever he doesn't play in a preseason is why he's kind of prickly about it because he wants to get action in there whenever he has a preseason which he doesn't see the field he tends to struggle in week one but I want to get back to what Stu said and yes I will con concede that Rogers still has zip on the ball when the opposing team jumps off sides and he realizes he has a free play and there are no consequences he can throw it downfield and look very good but that statline that he put up last night is what you drove Zack Wilson out of town for fair and this dude it's been a long time I'm talking about close to 10 years where he's actually been pretty conservative with the ball yes his arm is explosive he is a dynamic talent but he's also really Ultra conservative even in that drive where he looked supposedly really good to you guys was a bunch of seven yard Slants to Garrett Wilson here's a St but he throws a great seven yard oh he does very powerful you can hear it you can hear it when throws which is why I want to see him like uncork it a little bit and stop being so cautious because here's a shocking stat for you Tom Brady has thrown 10 300 yard passing games Since Aaron Rogers last 300 yard passing out in that span Tom Brady had two 400 yard passing games you are lying to yourself if you think Aaron roders is the dude he was four years ago this has been a long decline now he still may be very good and the and the throws some of them would certainly reflect that I would say open it up more be less cautious especially since you have what appears to be a good defense hopefully last night was an isolated instance but this was a 40-year-old quarterback that looked every bit as Rusty as someone coming off in Achilles and someone that we haven't seen play very well in a little bit of time look I tend to believe stugots that defense doesn't just carry over year over year I don't believe that just because the Jets had a good defense last year that you can then assume that it will be as good or better there are certain things that Kansas City does that no matter whether they have the second youngest uh defense in the league or not they tend to be pretty good at defense but I really don't think that you can simply assume that the Jets defense will be what it was last year I do think that you can assume though as Mike Ryan says that Aaron roggers has been more conservative Aaron Rogers Prides himself on changing football because the quarterback needed to have five interceptions a year and the Jets will be a good deal better than they were last year even if their defense is worse if they simply get quarterback play that's not totally incompetent which I don't think Aaron roggers will be incompetent he may be conservative it may be 180 yards but he's not going to do a lot of dumb stuff I don't need Aaron Rodgers to be the back-to-back MVP I need the last season in Green Bay of Aaron Rogers that last season would be the greatest season of jet quarterback back has ever had which is weird because it was his Worst season as a Green Bay Packer I know but the so the defense Dan is a concern not just because of last night going back to last year no Dan they have given up 28 plus points in six of the last nine games the the only reason I say last night doesn't even count is because I expect San Francisco to always get 30 and Payton Manning got mad at iuk yesterday because Payton Manning is now the voice of management somehow he's getting he's he's exhibiting total quarterback privilege on I never had to actually fight for a contract I got paid all the time and so my receivers need to get their asses in Camp and don't talk about another man's money he just got so mad at auk for dropping a ball because that was just total quarterback privilege from Manning he also lost it on the uh the CFL offense of the San Francisco 49ers where Jordan Mason who's being celebrated in the Press despite going at them afterwards which I found interesting even though with the added context I I kind of get it he was losing his mind Jordan Mason's early breaks off the ball because there were two guys in motion two guys pre- snap going forward you can't do that in the NFL pton Manning was having an aneurism on the air watching this play out uh Billy agreed with him he was also upset with auk yes there was annoying game for Billy SPS Big Board brought to you by we had the Jets getting the F being the first team to score a first down it ended up cashing but it took three drives for the Jets to get a first down in part because of what Mike was saying Aaron just wouldn't throw the ball forward kept throwing little screens and little things back where was very annoying and iuk how about you catch the ball buddy you held out you made this big stink about all this money had like two three drops all we needed was four catches over three and a half just keep dropping dropping him in the end zone dropping him in the middle of the field what's his deal catch the ball that's your deal you were holding out so you can get all this money to catch the ball they're giving it to you catch the ball thank goodness they got out to that big lead thank goodness Dan because we had Brock pie under 31 and a half pass attempts at the end of that game stopped passing the ball we l like we're going way over finished out at 29 two in one day it is hard for me to articulate to you how much suffering stugots has had to endure the entirety of his childhood and adult life when he's looking at a 13o loss in which Aaron Rogers throws for a buck 50 he's like I got my quarterback I've got the future he's the best quarterback in the history of the franchise I will tell you that and Dan here's the thing I've never had this feeling before when they were down I didn't feel like we were out of the game but but you were you were so out of that game well no it was 16 they had that drive Bree Hall got a first down Robert Salah did not challenge it when they spotted it as second and one instead of first and 10 and then they didn't get a first down after that I knew that was going to happen Robert Salah should be fired they're going to wait if he loses a couple more games I would have fired him today damn what if bich calls what do you do did got will L Woody Johnson and Bill bich picks up the did you not get enough of a reaction when you said I'd fire him after Tennessee were you disappointed that we didn't give you what you wanted so you move push it up so you moved to up the take yeah the schedule has changed I would fire him today today right now you changed your mind over the last 17 sentences how do you not challenged that Bree Hall it was obvious he got a first down how are you firing a coach when you said you were happy with what your team did last night I was happy with Aaron that's it the defense is on Salah he came in as the defensive guy weird thing you got for you hire this coach Robert Sally you get Aaron Rogers you don't have to worry about the offense because Rogers handles the offense you have to worry about the offense not with Rogers there Salah comes in okay and he's in charge of the defense and that defense that he's in charge of has given up 28 plus points in six of the last nine games fire him yesterday okay very good uh let's do back in my day and now it is time to take a trip down memory lane here's your Guy Greg Cody with back in my [Music] day space travel space travel you know back in my day and it didn't seem like such a bad idea we left space travel to the government to NASA to actual astronauts you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to know it felt a lot safer to watch a rocket launch into space than to be in that rocket the cold war between the United States and former Soviet Union in instigated the space race and unprecedented exploration the Soviets sent the first person into space in' 61 leading President John F Kennedy to announce a goal before this decade is out of Landing a man on the moon eight years and three NASA programs later Mercury Gemini and Apollo the US landed on the moon space travel was left to governments it was that way for the longest time we'd watch the countdowns and launches from Cape Canaveral on TV fine with a safe distance outer space was that mysterious Last Frontier we gladly left to others to explore you're going very fast Greg you don't have to go that fast Europe is about as daring as I get walking on the moon just never made my bucket list but that too like most everything else is changing space tourism or human travel for recreational purposes is an actual thing now the Jetson's cartoons I'd watch as a kid have come to life warning going to Europe is a lot cheaper it will cost you at least $250,000 for a suborbital flight with blue origin or Virgin Galactic it's a little slow now I like it faster a quar million bucks for a few minutes of weightlessness blue origin is billionaire Jeff bezos's new toy Virgin Galactic was founded by fellow filthy rich guy Richard Branson if $250,000 is Pocket Change to you and money is No Object a 25 million ion dollar ticket get you aboard as long as the flight into orbit inside the SpaceX Dragon capsule that's the play thing of yet another multi-billionaire Elon Musk all of these are private space Transportation companies are they government regulated well sort of or maybe soon the Federal Aviation Administration oversees commercial space operations but it wasn't until April 23 that the FAA charted a rulemaking committee to solicit industry input on future regulations aimed at protecting people meantime per space.com space tourism Vehicles just might be the only transportation technology out there with the potential to kill humans that doesn't need to undergo independent safety certification for now aspiring space Travelers seem okay with that but it's a fledgling industry playing a dangerous game Remember When jumping out of an airplane under a parachute or bungee jumping off a cliff made you a daredevil a lot cheaper too folks how how about we get back down to earth on all this leave the space travel to astronauts heck I get nervous enough on a flight to Atlanta if there rough air my desire for space travel tops off at 30,000 ft above ground with a pilot in the cockpit and a Crown and Coke in my hand i'm Greg Cody and that's how it was back in my day yeah yeah first off very grateful to have the fresh back in my day he's Rusty it hurts me to issue a critique it seemed like you hadn't read one of those in a while it's true there there's a couple of factors as I self-analyze number one it was long it it it was too long you're out of practice I'm out of practice and breath and the other thing is I'm reading it off a small phone that's what it is I think that's what that's tough he's also older I appreciate how receptive you are to the constructive criticism because we're just really excited that you did it and want to hear more and I don't want to like deflate you whatsoever right the the main thing is I I can't read off an iPhone it's just is that is that is the LSU photo of you that looks to will that photo be in the book I can't believe you recreated that good luck we are going to have an assortment of cool and fun announcements during Justin Tinsley explains why Kendrick Lamar doing the Super Bowl halftime show matters! this our 20-year anniversary which we're going to be celebrating all year Mike Ryan still has an oral history that is coming you have seen some of the behind the bits uh we're going to be signing New Deals and we have another documentary that has been announced the comeback the 2004 Boston Red Sox uh it was announced earlier this year but it revisits one of the great uh Sports comebacks of all time down 3 it's the Big Poppy team Pedro Martinez uh it premieres October 23rd uh before before Enigma with Aaron Rogers who's been cancelled and can't find any places where he can speak freely usually those guys do end up on Netflix though it's crazy I have some I have a typo here because metal Arc media can do do this it says that it premieres in October 23rd of 3024 that's that's not accurate I don't know it's 2024 and we're excited about it they do take time uh yeah but not that much time slow bur so in the middle of October baseball it's a three-part Series so we're very excited about it it's not one part it's three parts so uh we'll be telling more telling you more about that as it approaches but Justin Tinsley is a a senior culture writer for ESPN's andscape he's our hip-hop expert he's the author of it was all a dream biggie in the world that made him and I was surprised yesterday perhaps I shouldn't have been Justin that I thought it would be nothing but Universal Applause everywhere for the idea that Kendrick Lamar would be the Super Bowl halftime show and then I started listening to some people who were really mad on behalf of Lil Wayne Uh not being able to perform in New Orleans and then further bringing up Jay-Z as the influence here who's grabbing the commercial obvious choice of Kendrick Lamar that's who anybody would want but if you're about New Orleans and music and the catalog of Lil Wayne you understand why Lil Wayne is hurt by this I was just surprised I thought Kendrick Lamar would get nothing but Applause and and I'm eager to hear what our culture correspondent has to say but it's amazing what one song can do for a career for Kendrick Lamar to find himself as the commercial option Over Lil Wayne is an interesting point in history that we found ourselves in after a few short months welcome aboard lot that we just threw at you yeah Justin so go ahead chew on all of it for us well first and foremost I want to say congratulations on 20 years and thank you all for letting me be just one star in the massive universe that is this so thank you all and congratulations to you all on that uh this is definitely a complicated discussion I I totally agree with the choice of Kendrick Lamar right now he is the biggest name and rap in the year he's had we can discuss that a little bit further but the year he's had has been deniable but I also understand some of the the the disappointment in in in Lil Wayne not being involved because you know granted Lil Wayne isn't the level of superstar that he once was in years past but it's undeniable what he's meant to the culture of New Orleans and bringing bringing New Orleans worldwide so I I definitely understand that but Kendrick Lamar to me is an obvious choice and yes not like us and the the the the beef with Drake did play into you know this decision but let's not act like this D didn't have one of the most decorated one of the most respected and most importantly one of the most successful catalogues and careers of all time even before this beef you know the Pulitzer he did the score for black panther uh he's had he has two of the highest grossing uh hip-hop tours of all time so this dude's resumee was solid before that but but for me I think that the choice of Kendrick Lamar does make a lot of sense and I would not be surprised if low Wayne is still involved in the show and somehow because Kendrick Kendrick Lamar has never hid his adoration for Little Wayne in the past Justin what do you make of this Jay-Z debate that hangs over almost every Super Bowl halftime show it reignites anytime they make any decision there isn't a decision that they can make with this announcement that won't reignite the same conversation that is surrounding Jay-Z called being called a sellout he found his way in during the Kaepernick stuff and he's just snagging all the commercial dollars what do you make of this debate is there a right side to be on when it to this debate yeah I mean Jay-Z's partnership with the NFL has been criticized literally literally since the moment broke back in like two 2019 so so that's not surprising at all uh when you look at the grand scheme of Jay-Z and rock nation's partnership with the NFL I think a lot a lot needs to be said about the social justice initiatives or maybe lack thereof but I think at least in terms of his involvement Rock nation's involvement with the Super Bowl in the halftime show I think they've knocked it out the park and especially in recent years when you go from the weekend and I obviously what they did in LA with Snoop and Dre and Kendrick and Eminem and Mary and so on and so forth that one to iny uh Rihanna in Arizona was the highest rated uh TV program of the year and obviously usher in Las V Las Vegas last year made a lot of sense so I think from the entertainment standpoint they've more than delivered now the social justice standpoint that's just a that's simply a complex discussion that honestly we could spend the next three to four hours talking about because uh you just just don't know what that level of impa impact with Rock Nation in the NFL actually is I would actually like to do that next three or four hours with you I don't think the audience wants it from right now so I'm gonna I'm G to talk about other things yes or no question do you think Kendrick got this because of Drake uh it's not a yes or no question but yes I I do believe his beef definitely and his performance in that beef that they both willingly engaged in mind you def definitely led to that was that was part of the decision that went into it yes you mentioned the year that Kendrick Lamar has go ahead and put it in perspective for us because uh there haven't been a lot like it no there there have not been a lock like this now to give you further context uh Dan and I'm sure I'm sure you know about this too Kendrick and Drake have been taking sh shots at each other on record for well over a decade at this point it just bubbled over I don't even say bubbled over it exploded this year and every time that Kendrick Lamar has said something this year it has become a moment you go all the way you go all the way back to his verse on future in Metro booming like that the song that eventually became the number one record in the country where he quite visibly called out jcole and Drake and then the rush of battle records after that from both Drake and Kendrick Lamar or when you talk about Euphoria which I believe honestly was the best record out out of the entire uh spectacle between both of them 616 and La the way he responded to uh Drake's family matters during the NBA Playoffs mind you with meet the Grahams which is one of the darkest rap records I ever heard in my life and then to follow that up with the massive hit that is not like us which at this point it is on the pantheon of alltime great uh hip-hop battle records it is in it is in that conversation with Tupac hit him up it is in that conversation with naz's ether or ice cubes no Vaseline and it is the most commercially successful battle record of all time which could it may I don't want to point this out too Dan the week before the Super Bowl is the Grammys and I'm pretty sure if they submitted it I'm pretty sure that not like us will will at least be up for song or record of the year so if you think about it if he can go from getting a Grammy for a disc record one of the big four categories in the Grammys for this record and then perform that at the Super Bowl halftime show that is a run that is a year the likes of which we have never seen and there's still no album to show for which is fascinating in its own right give me your most honest appraisal uh using the writer's uh imagination that you have for Drake receiving the news that Kendrick would be the halftime show my heart would have had to sink to my stomach and and the fact that it's in in New Orleans and obviously the ties with Little Wayne and his ties with L Wayne and to know that the Super Bowl in America is the most watched program every year and the Super Bowl halftime show espe especially in recent years has has become its own body even outside of the game itself and to know that Kendrick he obviously I wasn't these discussions I wasn't in these boardrooms but I cannot imagine Kendrick Lamar signing off to do the Super Bowl and being told that he cannot do that record so to know that that record will be played at the Super Bowl halftime show and the words certified pedophile and the words a minor will ring to the heavens that has to be the absolute I would imagine worst feeling ever because it's not just you in the eyes of so many that you quote unquote lost this battle now it's just digging the knife in further and this this moment will be a part of both of their legacies both of their stories and this doesn't take away from any of the hits that Drake had before this beef I've long said that he's the greatest hit maker in rap history which which I still believe he is but you're never the same after a battle like this and will'll probably never be the same after a moment like the Super Bowl if it actually does come to fruition and he does not like us but one of the crazy things about everything you're describing here Justin is that Drake before this was commercially viable enough that you could have him be the halftime show and no one would object and I just don't think that there's any way that Kendrick's that I love him as a Lyricist I think he's wonderful as an artist but I don't think of him as commercially viable enough to be the halftime show the the biggest thing in pop culture even though I love his work I don't think of him in the same category as Drake and being that accessible as Pop Culture now I will say I'll push back on on that a little bit with you Dan Kendrick is commercially successful he's just not commercially successful in the way that we see Drake now Kendrick had the his debut album good kid Matt City it holds the record for the longest charting hip-hop album of all time at well over 300 weeks I mean he all of his albums have gone number one he has several number one hit records himself and also this is very very important as well Dan he is one of the single greatest live performers of all time he will put on a magnificent show and I guarantee you when you watch this halftime show you're going to be like yeah that was that was a big record yeah yeah that was a big record too and and obviously the Super Bowl halim show was what 18 to 20 minutes he can damn sure put together a show in 18 to 20 minutes that I think will put him in the pantheon of the alltime great super Super Bowl halftime performance because he is that great of a live performer you mentioned the ability to perform live and I think that's also kind of what really separates him from Lil Wayne when when people are having this discussion but I I kind of want to have a different angle on this you highlighted what uh some of what rock nation has done with this opportunity when I was little and I was watching all these Super Bowl halftime shows one of the Silver Linings of Aging was that eventually one day I would age to the demographic where Super Bowl halftime shows would feature the white rock bands that I grew up listening to and now I'm here and it's been a decade long run of not having old White Rock acts at at at the Super Bowl halftime show at what point is someone going to speak up to this Injustice uh I think so this is the last year of Rock Nation and uh the NFL's partnership they signed a five fiveyear agreement back in 2019 uh to be honest with you I was surprised by the Kendrick uh selection I I was I was surprised they went back to Hip Hop as well because I just knew that somebody like Taylor Swift was going to get the Super Bowl this year uh it it seemed you know Taylor you know no pun intended Taylor Made let's let's stop throwing bones to the Youth of America and throw someone throw a bone to the underserved de demoing white dud that want to see Kings of Leon just run just burn through Sex on Fire okay may maybe a little of the old stuff you know get back to that I think you know once Jay-Z and rock nation's partnership uh if they don't renew it I think you can see it but also I mean I don't know when they'll go back to that I know they will at some point I It won't always be you know Hip-Hop Hip-Hop artist leading the Super Bowl but while Jay-Z is there that was that was a point of emphasis for him he wanted to bring that culture to the biggest stage in American culture which was uh the Super Bowl and if you go back to the Super Bowl in 2019 when Maroon Five was uh the headliner that that Super Bowl was widely paning for being one of the more lackluster uh uh I guess you could say halftime shows of all time but Kings of Leon and other bands I don't think they're forever exiled from the Super Bowl I just think Jay-Z wanted to make sure the the the genre that made him uh an internationally known name was put on this stage when for so long you know that that that that just wasn't the case I appreciate your sincere answer to a ridiculous question yes you shouldn't have answered it that sincerely I was it to goooo dolls yes hey look look man maybe radio head one year no I'm just joking I do think I can guess with 100% certainty I'd be willing to guarantee it actually Lil Wayne's going to be featured in the half hour show like he's Kendrick will bring a drake guy though like they were just T together that's the thing see I do believe uh Wheezy will be involved in that halftime show in some regard just because he in New Orleans and so many people feel he have to be there but if he is on that stage that brings up the interesting question what is the relationship between Wayne and Drake and obviously if you know the history between those two uh Wayne is one of the people who really put Drake on this path to Superstar him back in 2008 2009 when it when so far gone and things like that and and Drake has always credited Wayne with you know him becoming the superstar that he is Justin you you can't be such a good friend that you turn down the halftime show in New Orleans we can't do it that's the thing the Line in the Sand has been drawn in this Kendrick and Drake will never be collaborators again they'll never be friends again that they're not going to pop up in Vegas 15 years from now and do a joint residency together you don't come back from calling somebody a certified pedophile you don't come back from saying somebody is abusive to their wife like the Line in the Sand is drawn so if you're over here with Kendrick you're over here with him if you're over here with Drake you're over here with him there is no there is no switching in this is what I'm trying to say just he's like Jim Phillips in the ACC no one's scared to piss off Drake Lil Wayne will be there okay exactly like that that's just what I was thinking Justin thank you for being on with us we appreciate it hey as always thank you for having me and congratulations on 20 years guys thank you hello welcome to the post game it's Billy how are we doing guys great how Football fans did not like Tom Brady in the broadcast booth! was the show today it was a good one it was a good one y how do we think week one went in the NFL I give it a b i i really in terms of news what more do you need need this was an A+ in terms of news onfield I understand better quarterback play B minus onfield B minus but A+ news my team won a game by kicking six field goals I have never been back the Steelers and also the Bears won without scoring any offensive touchdowns either wow you are so back back how adorable was Russell Wilson in full uniform even though he was inactive just adorable cute I love it you said we're back in football you know what else is back our DraftKings listener League guys if you want to participate go to dk. smaroff you can compete against us check it out on our Instagram you can click the link there $3 buyin guys it's presented by smaroff the world's number one vodka please drink responsibly love it stug got something that bears watching and I know we didn't get to this with Greg Cody and I'm prefacing this by saying I'm simply seeing mostly internet reaction to Tom Brady's broadcast debut because I heard maybe a quarter and a half of it and it sounded uh clunky but I don't have a full appraisal of everything that was I do feel though that I can say this with some conviction and I'd be a little scared if I were Tom Brady and all of what I'm about to say is so he's been and worked in a very confident place for a long time the expectations of what he's presently doing represent a different skill set on his expectations to conquer than the previous one and so what I heard and what little I heard on Sunday was someone who now has to be the over preparer he is and also hey Tom relax right and it's going to get a little bit harder to relax when that paycheck follows you around and I think what I'm about to say is true even not heard not having heard much of what I need to make this assessment you can make the argument because there's professional broadcasting all over college football and pro football that Tom Brady was among the worst or the very worst doing it this weekend just based on lack of experience and what sounded to my ear to be off because he doesn't have any training in this other than the practice he did before the season and he doesn't have any training in it with the amount of pressure that had last Sunday that now becomes a different kind of pressure next Sunday cuz he wasn't very good at it one of the worst but the most famous I mean right the most famous guy calling a game uh this past weekend I give Tom credit I really do D give him credit for going outside his comfort zone Tom Brady doesn't have to do this there really isn't tremendous upside for Tom Brady well there's the money yeah there's like $370 million I understand that does Tom Brady come off as a guy who needs money he doesn't have to do this he's doing something that's outside his comfort zone Zone and I don't worry about Tom Brady putting in the work to get better at this I think eventually Tom Brady will be good rough start granted I watched it and I winced but I think Brady with work with confidence will eventually get better at it well he deserves a little bit of a grace period I think I mean this is to me the first few weeks of the season is tanam on to his preseason his exhibition play he's going to get better on the job for now it's enough that he's Tom Brady you know that he's got the looks and the reputation and and he's going to draw listeners initially just for curiosity to see how good or bad he is eventually though he has to be damn good damn good not just average I I assume you guys already talked about him not being able to go to production meetings that's crazy that I how is this not a bigger story he can't go to the produ like he can't talk to the coaches or the player like what it's crazy it's because of his ownership stake in in the Raiders uh and they're working towards a solution I think ultim the solution is he just sees a team that he wants to come back to and he ends up playing on it and then we forget about all that exactly right I do wond St guys when you talk about he'll get his confidence uh it's a pretty tough situation to get it in when you're doing all the learning on the job in front of everybody and again I know he's done this before on a football field but it's just an entirely different skill set when has Tom Brady had to know the the regimens of how to do the job he's presently doing when have you heard him communicate well charismatically in a way that Jim Gray let's go that's where there's space it's just question answer question answer that's not how burkhart's goingon to do it also he hasn't heard that show and he doesn't know how good it is he's just saying things I am I am I had a great weekend by the way because why that's all happy birthday to him I don't care good luck happy happy birthday Greg thank you all thank you for coming in I appreciate it thank you all and thank you for the back in my day sincerely all right it'll it'll be better and and the next one won't be read from an iPhone and will be shorter that needed editing much like uh your beautiful uh Soliloquy about me really that was his GI to you great book end of the show The modelong exactly
