Beacon story foundation fighting blindness and athletes for hope I walked away so many times from being an athlete there was a time where I just felt by myself you know nobody I could relate to nobody that felt the pain that I was feeling that undescribable pain I wasn't sure but but I lose my vision in a year and a couple years what would happen and I was in my mid-40s I still had young kids and still planned on working and I lead an active life and it just it was hard for me to even process what that would be like yeah [Music] I have a disability when it's light light blinds me a little bit so it kind of creates a shadow to the figure that is behind the light but I'm able to jump seven feet three inches [Music] I realize that it's my superpower trying to identify with it and being accepting of it was probably the hardest thing for me when you think about mental health and staying active with any kind of diagnosis I've come to realize you just got to get started right because once you get started then it you kind of get into a rhythm and kind of just happens I just was real with myself I was like I have a disability the more and more I run away from it the the worse it's going to be one of the things I can do to delay the progression is to live a really healthy lifestyle so stay active stay fed eat a really healthy diet and that's also really important I know that there's someone out there that's looking at me or needs someone like myself to relate to and so that's why I continue to do this and to let people know that despite your struggles you can be whoever you want to be you just gotta believe it check out Sean and Isaac's stories at fightingblindness.org Beacon stories
