I like so many other people are very excited about this new film that again you're executive one of the executive producers for Tada and you're starting stting being an exective producer and I would love for anyone out there that has not seen a preview yet of the film can you please give us a brief synopsis of it and the character that you play um all right so 1992 [Music] is a film about historical black very traumatic moment that happened in South Central LA where I was born and raised that I'm not an implant I'm not didn't grew up around white people then we got broke and then moved to the hood I was born and raised in Watts South Central LA Martin Luther King Hospital December 30th Capricorn 1978 Dr King was a Capricorn uh my city wat which is right next to Compton Martin Luther King hospital I was born if you make a left you're in Compton you make a right you're in watts and imagine in the year 1965 Watts was known for the Watts Riots the Watts Rebellion same thing police brutality excessive force murder just disposing of us like we we don't [ __ ] matter and that's what I was born into fast forward the city of Watts was only known for the Watts Riots before me before I did my Coke commercial before I got on no one was talking about Watts it just kind of happened so now as I'm living in Watts hearing about the Watts Riots my whole life all of a sudden Rodney King gets beat they killed him brought him back to life killed him they whooped this man ass for so long they were literally taking breaks to catch their breath and this was before camera phones I know some of y'all youngsters don't even understand that no one had a camera on their cell phone in 92 there was no body cams there was no cameras on police cars there was no cameras on any street corners there was no ring cameras none of this stuff existed so as you could imagine the level of murder rape abuse of power planting drugs guns [ __ ] people up hanging people from trees it happened but it wasn't documented so these police officers just another day started beating the [ __ ] out of Rodney King and somebody randomly rolled out of bed with a big ass camera on their shoulder and decided to get footage of something something that we now look at every day online and sadly that footage with that big old huge VHS video camera on they shoulder what is going on it hasn't stopped that wasn't no video camera George Floyd bana Taylor Eric Garner Trayvon Martin and all of the other people that we don't know anything about it cuz it never made the headline it never went viral that black woman was just in the kitchen with a PO of hot water and just got shot in the head 10 times if that body Canam wasn't on that police officer they would have definitely fixed that paperwork and had us thinking that she threw some hot water at them and that's why they killed her out of self-defense we are living in a world right now where irregardless of what you can film what you can document and what you record racists are still out here doing evil and they're all trying to win the popularity contest at this point from doing even more evil this is why mass killings are still happening this is why there's been a spike in anti-Semitism this is why it's been a spike in Muslims that are in synagogues and Mos praying and getting shot up and killed in the middle of prayer this is why someone has decided to be gay lesbian transgender and just getting shot gotten killed because of a choice that they made and the lifestyle that they want to live this is why growing up and living in this black skin every day has never ever been easy and so you ask why I did the movie 1992 because I wanted to shed light on something that I lived that I know all to well that I also experienced in real time in watts in South Central for La I remember the ashes I remember five six weeks of not being able to see the sun because the clouds were so black I remember the military I remember the dog the police dogs I remember the Koreans on top of the stores spray painting blackowned businesses in front of their stores thinking in believing that we didn't know what was Black own versus not because they thought spray painting black own business was going to stop us from looting and rioting and burning the stores down I also remember other than regido Denny and people being arrested I don't think there's ever been a trial connected to anybody that was shot and killed or murdered during all of those riots because it was open season to shoot stab and kill black people and blown people in the Hood the way it's always been people got arrested but they never did a trial and dealt with any repercussions of whatever they did in '92 so as much as the film touches on the rioting the Looting the Rodney King verdict when you watch the movie that's probably 10% of the movie Ray leoda rest in peace another trauma uh as the father of Scott Eastwood in the film the father of another guy named Dylan and his goons and they decided while the whole city of La is burning down why don't we go break into an Amazon warehouse and go steal 50 million dollars in platinum bars so the film is actually a heist the film is actually a thriller the film will actually have you on the edge of your seat wondering what's about to happen next but the crazy thing is this is also the most diverse film in the history of South Central LA movies and the rundown is colors Menace to Society boys in the hood Poetic Justice Set It Off baby boy and then you get into Straight Out of Compton training day then you get into the new TV series called snowfall and whenever you see white people in these films they're always white people doing evil towards black and brown culture but this film has literally the balance between all of this diversity and this because Rota and his crew does a full-on heist while La is distracted from being burned out and that's why I said yes to the movie because just maybe somebody who doesn't even have one single black friend one Jewish friend one Asian friend one Muslim friend one black beautiful sister like you will finally be able to look at a movie and say all of a sudden I care about some [ __ ] that that that they went through I'm not from there I don't have any black friends I didn't grow up in that environment but oh my God that was [ __ ] up you should not have to say I'm Jewish and we experien the Holocaust in order for you to care about the Holocaust you shouldn't have to say oh man it's sad to see that you went through slavery your people your people huh aren't we all human I got it I live in this black skin every day I got it okay you're a woman you live in that skin every day in that body I got it but I think for me at this point everything that I do is just to heighten awareness and to speak to the sensitivities in and around life and culture and things that people are experiencing that may be beyond your tax bracket your neighborhood your community your environment your sexual preference and that's why I'm very proud that 1992 is here and that is dropping on Labor Day weekend and I'm also very proud of this album that I've been pushed into because of what I've been dealing with on the personal front with my divorce and me finding love again
