welcome back everybody to the KC sports report I'm your host Michael Darcy and today I have the luxury to be joined by my good friend Josh fan of show MEF foot.com and Arrowhead addict.com and together we're going to talk about rasid rice and the possibility that he doesn't get suspended in 2024 so ladies and gentlemen of the Chiefs Kingdom you've probably seen a lot of stuff about Rashi rice this off season a lot of it not so good you know he got into that uh Dallas Highway street racing incident I guess is the best way to describe it he fled from the scene a couple days later he got into an incident where he allegedly punched a photographer in a Dallas Nightclub and so the news that we heard from Rashid rice all offseason long was very negative and it was conduct that I think I would deem that is not good for the NFL and so that oftentimes comes with a suspension now the one thing that I think we should first mention about NFL susp uspions is that there really isn't a definitive suspension policy the NFL is kind of all over the place when it comes to how long they suspend players they're reasoning for suspending players and apparently Rashid rice is not likely to be put on the Commissioners exempt list because the NFL has not even contacted Rashid rice it seems like they're waiting for the legal process to come to a close and that's not set to take place until 2025 so Josh what do you think about the possibility that Rashid rice doesn't get suspended and rather has uh rather get suspended next year well I think that's good for the Chiefs that you know it'd be delayed till next year of course he's gonna have to be suspended probably at some point uh but I think most Chiefs fans would rather it be next year than this year mostly because you know we're trying to three repeat and Rashid rice is going to be a big part of that now of course it's not like he'd be suspended the entire year at least I mean that'd be pretty unexpected result is that he's suspended for an entire season I think most people think it's maybe going to be between four and eight games so most would rather see him suspended next year but you know I agree with you I think you know the NFL has been kind of all over the place with suspensions in the past but a theme that they've mostly been sticking to as of recently is we're going to let the legal process play out and then we'll determine what we do with you and there's just really nothing the NFL can do right now because legal process with Rashi rice is being dragged out until next year and I think that's also on purpose Rashi and his lawyers are you know going to push it out as far as they can to avoid him being suspended this season when I heard something actually on sports radio 810 whb saren Petro on the program was talking about how maybe Rashid Rice's lawyer coming out and just saying yeah he's at fault for all this stuff it made the courts in Dallas say okay like you know he's taking responsibility for these actions we'll we'll deal with this issue but we're not going to deal with it right now and so it almost gave him the grace of playing in this season by admitting that he did indeed do it and I think that the the way that he handled the situation by coming out and saying you know it's my fault I'm responsible and his lawyer was very forthcoming with that information I think that helped him avoid a suspension in 2024 now I I still think that he's going to get suspended he'll probably get suspended to start the 2025 season and it might be anywhere from two to four to eight games I'd be kind of surprised if it was eight games in 2025 keep in mind if the NFL is waiting all this time it clearly is not that big of an issue so I I think that if he does get suspended which that's what it's trending to be in 2025 it's going to be probably a four game suspension that's what I would bet my money on and you know for the Chiefs to bypass a suspension this year for a shei rice and have to deal with that later on down the line when you could sign a wide receiver in free agency next year and find somebody to fill in for a sheir rice in those first four or six games whatever it is I think the Chiefs got extremely lucky yeah I also think that everything kind of Fades with time right and if rasid rice is to be suspended next year I think his suspension should probably be less games than it would be if he got suspended this year because it's not as fresh in people's minds anymore you know if we had made a judgment based off you know the day we got the news that Rashid rice was in that big incident people would be going like oh my God he needs to be suspended for eight games maybe the whole season um the NFL though probably would have suspended him you know eight 10 games something like that probably would have been pretty significant but um with the fact that it's probably going to be put off till next year I think the NFL is going to go man this happened last year you know the victims have been you know probably paid off and oh yeah yeah you know Rashid rice is kind of you know tied some loose ends whatever it'll be four games you know yeah and and that's even if they give him four now I know there's been players that have kind of had a similar situation happen not necessarily when it comes to you know the incident of what happened on that you know freeway but you know similar misconduct that they've had over the off season and they get suspended and it's around four games there's been some crazy cases where players get more but I think the standard is is going to be about two to four games maybe six if you're really unlucky but four games is the gold standard and so I think that that's going to be probably what Rashid rice faces next year but you know who knows if the Chiefs win three Super Bowls and like you said Rashid rice is able to you know tie up some loose ends and maybe pay some people off and you know make amends with the people that he hurt you know they might drop the charges and so that could be something that happens in the future now they actually might not be able to drop the charges that might be a a Dallas thing with all the felonies that he's facing but I I think the important thing is that this issue is not a we need to solve a right now issue it's a you know we've got some time to think about it we've got some time for things to cool off and things can always change with time like you said so I think this is a positive for not only Rashid rice but for the Chiefs entirely and I know a lot of people around the NFL are upset and they feel like the NFL is going easy on Rashi rice and the Chiefs because the Chiefs are The Golden Boys of the NFL and while I understand why it's easy for some to think that I think you know just looking what the NFL has done recently with waiting for players to waiting for players to go through legal process and waiting for those conclusions to be made by the law I think this makes a lot more sense and and I still think Rashid rice faces a punishment it's just not this season yeah and with him being forth coming as you mentioned earlier being transparent throughout the process with the NFL I think that's ultimately going to help him too that really helped with Tyreek Hill a few years ago whenever he was going through his thing and you know he ended up not being suspended at all and a lot of people thought what the heck how does Tigre kill not even get a single game suspension and it's because he was very odd Hest throughout the process and he he had evidence to show the NFL him and his lawyer they were very much looking forward to speaking with Roger Goodell in the NFL and they said look here's the situation here's what really happened and you know hopefully that's the information that you need and the NFL made a determination based off of that that Tyreek Hill didn't deserve to be suspended um and they really appreciated the honesty I I do think sometimes that K help a player and it might end up helping Rashid RI in this scenario well I'm not saying that it's right again I'm not the one that enforces or makes the policy for suspension in the NFL there's guys that do horrendous things to women and animals and you know the whole nine yards and they serve a lot of time and then there's players that you know break the performance-enhancing drug policy and they serve time but it's really black and white or not it's not really black and white with suspension policies and how long they are so you know Rashi rice said this drags on long enough he might not serve a suspension but again I I think it and more likely than not he's going to but again this is not an issue the Chiefs are going to have to deal with right now and I just think that's a really good thing for the Kansas City Chiefs so Josh do you have anything else that you want to add to this do you think that Rashid rice is gonna serve any time this year or are you also thinking that it's going to be next year no yeah I think it'll be next year and some people have theorized that with the Chiefs bringing back Juju Smith Shuster because they know that Rashid rice is going to going to get suspended I don't think that's what it is at all I just think you know the Chiefs like having Juju around and Matt naggie even kind of pounded the table to bring juu smer back because he really likes him in this offense don't think it has anything to do with Rashid rice and I'd be shocked if he was suspended this year I would also be shocked and and it really works out great for the Chiefs that they're going to have potentially their number one wide receiver healthy and playing during this 2024 campaign where the Chiefs are trying to do something
