what's up welcome back I'm John SAR back movie.com your favorite blind film critic and this is the perfect couple season one probably the only season I then again we have two seasons of big little lies and they're talking about doing a third so what is the limited series anymore you know we're getting another season of beef nine perfect strangers is getting another season it's just just just it's just out of control you know um anyway uh yeah so this on Netflix has audio description done by International indal Center written by Liz Gutman narrated by somebody I'm not familiar with and had an impossible time trying to remember their name uh didn't happen I'm sorry uh for the blind audience I'm wearing a purple hat backwards Black sunglasses and I have a falcon of winner soldier t-shirt on today so um the perfect couple are they perfect are they a couple which couple are we talking about what is this thing about it's six episodes long it's on Netflix uh and it centers around uh wealthy people basically uh there's a wedding uh that is being set up and planned and every all the all the all the Hogs are in motion and then all of a sudden this girl Meritt ends up dead and uh her her best friend is is the one that's getting married and she's shocked and of course you know doesn't want to get married everything just kind of comes to a halt the police come in and they start investigating and and as it's preferred these are the kind of people who are so rich that they can afford to get away with murder you know or can they we don't know we'll find out within six episodes so um definitely lots of secrets and lies and uh people everybody's interesting they have their own stories over the course of six episodes you'll end up seeing sort of uh the the the incident transpiring over the course of like how did it get to Merit being dead and certain people will end up getting checked off your list so uh you're if you have like a murder board if you're doing the only murders in the building thing you're slowly going to end up chipping away at it because it's going to as the cops talk to somebody and they tell their story it'll show you what happened with that person so uh that some of the more peripheral characters slowly get chipped off the list Until you realize you know you know who you think might have done it I will say that I guessed wrong uh I thought for sure uh I had it and I I read too much into one thing and uh I was Bamboozled the show got me and uh so you might get you might get hit with a Twist maybe I didn't I didn't catch it I I was thrown a a curveball and I I took it and it was the wrong one swung with the wrong pitch so uh I did not guess the killer correctly I was wrong um but yes uh I I suppose in in itself that's a spoiler but yes there is a killer here she was murdered uh that's also revealed in the first episode so things that like first episode things are not really in a series of six episodes it's kind of hard I have to talk about something so she just murdered in the first episode U but it they just kind of like find her body uh so nobody knows really what happened or who did it um pretty um sudden and cast Nicole Kidman LEF shriber Dakota Fanning Eve Houston Jack rer uh some really good cast members here uh and it's a it's big Ensemble even Beyond them with the actors that I was less familiar with uh they definitely reach pretty far and wide and deep um there's sort of this CORE family of which Nicole Kidman and Russell Crow are sort of like the patriarch patriarch matriarch and they have kids and uh they're sort of peripheral people their their friends and uh neighbors and and uh uh the the girl is getting married has parents that are there uh so and then of course uh all the other siblings have like either like a love interest a girlfriend SL spouse something you know what I'm saying they all have something with them uh so it ends up being and there's like the help also there's you know there's this really sort of like sassy um Spanish uh housekeeper um made I don't know something she's she's funny some of her dialogue is really funny um so uh sort of an underutilized character because she's not a main character but uh the couple SC that she has I I enjoyed um it's well described uh Liz doesn't really write bad scripts uh definitely they put people in rooms uh you know you always know who's there uh entran and exits um facial expressions are supported really well uh people who develop habits uh you definitely are aware of those Habits Like Le have shriver's character has a tendency to smoke quite a bit of pot throughout the course of the show uh and uh I think every time he lights up it's mentioned and he shares it with anybody that's mentioned so [Music] um that was definitely something I noticed um really my only sort of criticism at all it's not even really like a primary because this is murder mystery show so this is really about like tracking the evidence and who was who was somewhere at a certain time hearing maybe something uh and trying to lay all that out because uh it's hard as you're going through the series to sort of like individually pick out moments and say oh well yeah well that was great because of how the show ended you know uh I don't know as I'm going along I I don't know I have to trust that the audio description that I'm being given is great and I do kind of feel like that they went for uh kind of a a Target I should have seen coming it's not like it wasn't like a total like out of left field Choice uh but at the same time wasn't somebody who's on my immediate radar so um yeah I uh I was kind of impressed with that but at the same time that means I I wasn't actually specifically paying attention to that character and how the way they were described and uh so I I don't know if it necessarily how leading it was how much it built there uh sort of I I I I lean back to um like the Jake jolen Hall Show and that we just had um presumed innocent and how certain things become Clues later on like they don't initially they're not important initially and then they are important later on as they're in like the background of shots and stuff like that so sometimes you don't know until you actually uh sit down and watch the show but I feel like everything was represented well and I nobody it was never LED in a direction it wasn't heavy-handed and it certainly did not reveal to me who the killer was so uh but what one of the things that could have done better secondarily would be to uh lean in on the opulence of the wealthy people like these are all supposed to be rich people uh living their best lives uh on this fancy you know like on a beach uh in this Mansion thing with you know what I'm saying like it's even the clothes that they would be wearing would be fancy to some extent uh these are people who wake up and and look pretty um I think what's interesting is uh they show sort of the main character uh getting picked up and she gets picked up by this character shooter uh who you know uh because her fiance or whatever is not there to pick her up yet and he takes her out to the house and he says something like he's like yeah you can you can even it's you know you can do this uh even without a staff like they're walking on a beach or something he makes some comment about and she's like you can do any of this without a staff you know coming from somebody who isn't Rich you know she's just like you know like it's it kind of but IT addresses that question because he it's like how much do you do with a staff like do you do anything yourself you know like I mean when you've grown up with housekeepers Maids Cooks whatever you know like what is it that you do so like the dialogue leans into it and it tries to sort of chastise the wealthy a little bit here uh and there just there there are some twists with characters that have nothing to do with the murder that sort of make the show more interesting and make the characters more interesting um but it certainly uh always stays in this Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous world so so um yeah I would have probably leaned in more on the uh thing the funny thing is I didn't look at the cast ahead of time and I kept having a really [ __ ] of a Time picking out Le of shriber I had a a [ __ ] of a time I was like who is that I was like whose voice is that at some points I was like is that Russell Crow is that Ron Pearlman I was like whose voice is is I never once thought Le of shriber uh that probably the just the most like random interesting thing that I can bring out is uh I kept putting other actors in that role because I didn't want to like check Netflix I I didn't want to check IB and uh he's he was too deep into the credits every episode for me to actually find out like who played you know who it was and I was like I don't know it's it at one point I was even like is that pierce broen maybe doing like an American accent like I I don't know leam triber I was not what who I was I was guessing like actors all over the place I was like they wouldn't put Ron prman with like whole maybe they would maybe he's supposed to be the older spouse and she was the younger wife at the time I don't know uh you know I mean I was I had so many names and I kep going for like M Gibson I never got to Le shriber I kept I had the I had such a hard time P finding his name and it was bothering the hell out of me CU I was like this has to be a major actor and I kept hearing different voices and I heard so many different actors but I never heard Leah shriber and I think that's for me that was the most fun that I had was spending six episodes going who the [ __ ] is playing this role but like refusing to I was like I was like I'm G to get this I'm going to nail this and by the time I got done with the show I like I got to I I we got to the credits like the last episode cuz uh your Auto playay uh whatever you're doing on Netflix definitely on the last episode it'll let you play out the credits it doesn't try to immediately put you into because then it would be putting you into like a show that's not the same thing so I actually got to the point and when I saw Le sher's name pop up I was like you got to be kidding me I you got it I was on like I was on like Mel Gibson and like Ron Pearlman and it's like Le shriber I was like are you what that's not that's not Le but it's theber okay well mind blown mind blown so um that was my fun anyway maybe not your fun but uh should you watch the perfect couple yeah six episodes it's light fun I don't think this is something that's going to get like aty nominations but uh yeah it's it blows by I mean Nicole kimman has definitely done better limited series before I kind of spent the whole I gotta say and this is this is a little bit of a spoiler but I will tell you that I was guessing Nicole Kidman the whole time because her character is so underwritten and I was like why did Nicole Kidman sign on to this part I was like there's got to be something here there's got to be something to this part you know she's got to be the killer because there's nothing to her like her role is just sort of for Nicole but then again she just did that Zack Eon movie so maybe she just says yes to things now maybe she looks at a paycheck and goes oh that's enough zeros thank I don't know I really don't know what she saw in this role because it's she's had far more interesting roles before even her other limited series like the role she has on big little lies is way more Dynamic than this the role that she had in the undoing is way more Dynamic than this here she's just kind of like well thanks for showing up you know cool they give her a little bit of a backstory twist it's not like a but they don't really give her meaty scenes she doesn't really have moments you know that you would expect from Nicole Kidman uh so weird Fanning uh has more of those than she does it's so weird that Nicole kimman was in this role I kept so I was like it has to be even we have shriber has more to do you know what I'm saying like I feel like every Eve Houston has more to do Nicole kimman just walked through the whole film just being like the whole series just being like I'm just here I'm like it's got to be her like there's got to be a reason she chose no there's no reason I have no reason I don't know why she said yes to this I would love to know that would be my question if I if I if I knew Nicole I would i' text her right now i' be like Nicole what what was it that made you say yes to this because there's this is a nothing Burger of a role for you compared to everything else you've done um I don't see I don't see what you see tell me what you saw in this role what did you see in this role um and like what was the scene that Drew you to this role I'm so interested in that but uh as far as show check it out I didn't there's still like 27 people left in this cast that could be Killers Don't worry about it uh and yeah um you'll you'll like it and and uh have fun so anyway uh yeah it's it was it was a pretty decent show it's it's not mind-blowing but uh yeah I I I lik it enough I'll give the perfect couple of B+ Solid Audio description uh yeah I I don't really have complaints uh I just at the end of the day I just I know there are going to be other limited series that are just going to be that have been better and will be better you know this is just fine it is perfectly fine so it's a it's a nice distraction um anyway that's it thank you for watching thanks for subscribing and I'll see you guys on the other side
