Northeast Ohio schools close due to high temperatures

Here's the question. Is it too hot to learn in temperatures like this? The heat has closed multiple schools across Northeast Ohio, including schools and Constellations. Schools in Parma Heights and all the closings are scrolling at the bottom of your screen. We don't want you to be caught off guard there. Yeah, school administrators are concerned about a students and staff spending a full day in buildings that just don't have air conditioning. And so Education station reporter Daniel Wiggins joins us live from inside Constellation schools in Parma Heights. So, how does it feel in there? Oh, man and Christy, I must tell you that it is uncomfortable. It is stuffy. And let me tell you this, I've only been in this classroom for less than 15 minutes and trust me, we are getting out of here as soon as this live report is over now. Just think about it. These are, these are kids, they are kindergarten to third grade. We're talking about fif uh five years old to about 89 years. So, in this classroom and you're like, what is that you have in your hand, Daniel looks like a thermometer. Well, it's actually a heat gun. So we wanna show you because I've been going around the school and really looking at how hot it is. And so now this is where your five year old to eight or nine year old will be sitting. And as we take a look right now, it is 81.1. Now, their school day is over at 330 it's really, really hot. Now, I did speak earlier today with Brian Preen, the safety and business manager here at Constellation Schools. And he says, why having kids in schools with no air condition is really a safety concern. One of the things I think that goes on overlooked is when you get 20 to 30 kids in a classroom, it the heat goes up naturally from there. And so some of our kids aren't prepared, they may not be dressed properly. Um And we don't have the ability to keep them cool. So again, we're in an empty building right now, an empty classroom. And typically when everyone's here, there are 250 people in the building. So imagine all of that body heat actually raising the temperatures here as well. So again, we look and it is 81.1 at this desk here in this classroom. Now, presser says that they are looking into getting air conditioning. However, their main concern when it comes to funding is funding the heat that they need. And as you can see the lights went out, which is probably good for us because it makes it a little cooler. But uh Matt, I must tell you that. Now we did hear and see all of the comments on social media saying, oh, why are schools closing when they don't have air conditioning? We went to the school back in our days. Well, I also went to Avon Lin who closed schools because of no ac and these school administrators respond to those social media comments and criticisms. OK. All of you who are critiquing. So listen up, tune in for uh five o'clock, Danielle will have more for us and appreciate it. Danielle. Go find someplace cool. I will.
