acknowledgement of country thanks God in the spirit of reconciliation we respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land of which this event is taking place and the land in which we play our games of glim bulls the drumble people we pay our respects to the First Nations people and their Elders past present and future for they hold the memories the traditions and the culture and the hes of indigenous Australia thanks man all right so before we get started today just bit of housekeeping the bathrooms are located outside the function room towards the main bar or the Bottom bar all the War winners today will need to ensure they get their official photo taken up at back at the media wall before leaving and I ask that all official photos are taken first then parents more than welcome um we do ask have Jack floating around today official photographer where is he up the front awesome um you'll be taking photos throughout the presentations also we ask that no one comes forward to take a photo they'll be passed on the clubs after the event today just so that we can keep on moving through um I'd like to acknowledge our special guests in attendance this morning aflq Hall of Famer Daryl dunnut up the front as well um AFL capricornia life member Mel MacArthur and and our other special guest today Peter Watkins he's up the back way Pete thanks M um I would also like to acknowledge our major sponsors for AFL capricornia 2024 radio partner Triple M Central Queensland and our TV partner Channel 7 Central Queensland as well I'd like to acknowledge all the players coaches volunteers Executives from the six AFL capricornia clubs in attendance today the efforts you have all put in during the season help make footy happen from week to week shout out also to the seventh Club in AFL capricornia the umpires once again without the umpires on all the hard work they put in as well so we're going to uh start off the day of course with our under 13th award um so the under 13th mixed best and Fest award all the best and first votes uh allocated three 321 each week by the Umpire group at the game two elements of the award rewards of players that were just not the best but the fairest during the home andway season I'd like to invite Shan back up to the stage to to conduct the third that best and first V [Applause] Camp thanks Scotty so this year the under 13's mixed best and fairest award is has been named the scottt Smithwick medal so um probably needs no introduction although we've got a bit of a blur here metal Scott has been involved with AFL capricornia for the past 16 years and has been a crucial part of the growth of Youth footy in the region and his work with OS programs in school footy has helped grow youth footy especially under 13's age group over the years for me personally um we wouldn't be involved with AFL without Scott so Scott's one of those BS that's out there at the schools particular those strong Rugby League schools in Rocky um handing those kids that look like they could could make a transition from rugby league over to AFL and I'm forever grateful that Scott continue to encourage my kids um at Frenchville to come over and have a kick and um it's been a great great experience for us and I'm sure it's really pleasing for him watching a bunch of kids that he's um had that the OS program go on through youth footy which is what we here today for but also in the same your ranks um and seeing those kids get Senor votes Etc so congratulations to Scott on becoming the namesake of the under next best and first award going to move on to our Junior Achievement Awards so I'd like to invite Dan o' the junior vice president of swans to the stage to present the awards these awards are selected by the club presidents for each young each youth grade for those Junior players who go and above above and beyond to support their Club on and off the field so for the under 13 junior Junior Achievement Award the Sandra dut award the winners from you swans marelo mure bus we have Hayden B P Conor HST house Brothers kangaroos Baron McDonald and Sons Matilda aler from the bit science John [Applause] Dickinson go let play a round of applause for our Junior fantastic well done guys fantastic under 15 boys Junior Achievement Awards is the Don Pollock award so the under 15 uh Junior Achievement Award um Don was involved in the AFL capricornia Juniors for many years as a committee person rep coach and chief fundraiser is all I used to call him um Don could talk to anyone with a mouthful of golf balls under water um he would he chase you down and just um be relentless in what he did he was a crucial part part of the growth of Youth footy in the in the region through his um work with the Junior League and through some major changes there as well early early days um he was a big advocate of rep footing which was a great assistance to me when I first started the job in 2008 and he's a firm believer that all the kids in the country should have the same opportunities as those down in the Southeast corner so the winners from uh the opponent wands now oh how do you say that bot there you go from the opponent Noah from from the SWS so from the glore Bulls Jordy [Applause] K from the Panthers Mason Sully was I like that's awesome um from the kangaroos Eden Holier [Applause] about and Sons Harrison old older great right so the under 16 girls junior achievement awards um so this one's not named it obviously in the next couple years we'll be looking to do that so from new swans the winner was Ty more balls so D was involved heavily with the AFL capricornia Juniors over many years as a Committee Member he also a rep coach and the patron of the league in the latest ages um during my time at a Queensland Dave has always been willing to chip in and support the programs whenever he could or however he could which was always appreciated Dave was also instrumental in being in keeping the Junior League going when times were tough on various occasions so uh the winners from yon swans Patrick Waller um from the glenore Bulls [Applause] from the Panthers Jackson [Applause] Bron from the kangaroo is Thomas [Applause] to from the Suns Ashton D and from the Saints Julian Parell [Applause] once again guys big round of applause for our winners [Applause] tiny that's it um well done ladies and gents oh nice [Music] what e e e e e e e [Music] how medal so um Mel has been around the region for a very very long time I just got a brief history of all the stuff that was before my time here in AFL Queensland so Mel was that the first time Mel played up here was against Daryl's uh traveling sorry M come up in traveling under what age was it that was open schools open school boys team um to play against darl's representative saw when when the league was just starting um but Mel's main involvement with the the junior fo0 up here was through AFL cap sport in the school system as male coach his first round of U AFL cap Under 12 team in 1989 and he went through all the way through to 2 and I think it was 15 m is that correct yep um Mel also played for Park um back in the day is a as a uh very scary fullback or Center halfback um like to ruin Center half forwards day um used to play with Legionnaire head very Sunmart Mel was and he was also um a member of our Central Queensland representative side for over 10 years as well they tiend so fair effort for Mel there Mel is very passionate um supporter of AFL in rockampton region as you know um Rocky uh rugby league Heartland and uh if youve ever been in the school sport meeting try to get something across the line in front of uh rugby league you know they're up for a big fight so Mel flew the flag for AFL really well and he was instrumental in managing to get AFL on the Friday School sport calendar in rockampton region which was a massive effort after I think we're trying for about 10 years to try and get it on the calendar so now all the young guys that have come through and played the Friday afternoon sport now get a chance to play AFL in the first turn of the sport so um I'd like to thank Mel very much for that um so we'll move into it now so we'll do the round five up to the round five summary where are we so it is people on there so we'll go through really quickly um so one vote a piece for Tyson competition manager so for those of you who don't know darl darl is our AFL Queensland Hall of Famer um instrumental in uh getting our under or our youth competitions running way back in the70s 70s uh so long time ago uh started off with a couple of couple of teams and then moved into a school-based competition and then uh Grew From there so a few people in this room actually played in this that competition all the way back when it started so um fantastic effort and it's amazing that uh the the amount of the competition has grown over the years obviously moving through the boys competitions and then adding in our girls as well it's just going from strength to strength and it's all started with Daryl at the start so well done Daryl give him another round of [Applause] applause um without
