the Miami Hurricanes are moving on up I am Alex donno host of lockon canes Tuesday afternoon the new AP poll has just dropped for week two and as expected the Miami Hurricanes have climbed how high did they climb hurricanes entered the season week one last week ranked 19th in America I still think preseason rankings are silly like how do you throw out rankings until you actually see the teams play it is what it is hurricanes open up 19th they demolished the Florida Gator 41- 17 and Miami is rewarded with a seven spot jump up to number 12 which by the way is the second biggest jump that any team made within the top 25 the biggest jump that was made were by the USC Trojans deservedly so huge victory in Prime Time against LSU so USC moves up from number 23 to number 13 Miami jumps up from number 19 to number 12 I'm scrolling down in the AP poll and I I can't find Florida State where uh they were number 10 last week wow 0 and2 lost to teams they were favored by double digits against Florida State openup this season in Dublin with a loss to Georgia Tech they lost to Boston College on Monday night FSU finds themselves out of the top 25 Clemson actually was the biggest uh within the top 25 the biggest tumble uh the Tigers went from number 14 to number 25 they were not only beaten but they were completely negated by Georgia another couple of other ACC teams right there in that mix North Carolina state stands Pat at number 24 Georgia Tech huge upset win to open up the season against Florida state they're two and 0 Georgia Tech finds themselves down number 23 Louisville at number 22 then you've got Iowa Arizona Kansas LSU Falls five spots Kansas State Oklahoma State Oklahoma then number 15 Tennessee 14 USC in Miami Utah right above Miami at 11 top 10 is made up of Michigan Who falls one spot Missouri who Rises two spots Penn State stands Pat at number eight Oregon drops four spots down to number seven ol Miss at six Notre Dame at five they rise two spots Bama Rises a spot Texas Rises a spot to number three Ohio state two and Georgia rightfully so at number one so it's nice to see the Hurricanes moving up and and it's welld deserved I mean Miami had a a complete performance in that dominant win against Florida uh this past Saturday in a game where Miami was favored to win but only favored by two and a half points a lot of people myself included thought it would be a close game and a big reason why it wasn't a close game was the Magnificent performance from New Miami Hurricane starting quarterback Washington State transfer cam Ward ward in the game completed 74% of his passes 385 passing yards that's the most passing yards thrown in A hurricane's debut by any starting quarterback Miami's had since at least 1979 the stats are a little shaky before 79 so Ward is the best to do it in his debut in a very long time for the Miami Hurricanes through three touchdown passes to one interception and cam Ward was one of three Miami players that were given weekly honors by the ACC this week Ward was named ACC quarterback of the week no one else was really close in the conference Zack Carpenter also making his Miami debut former center from Indiana now the starting center at Miami named offensive lineman of the week and Jaden Harris ACC defensive back of the week Harris LED Miami in tackles with seven against Florida and hauled in a big interception recorded a sack in the game as well so job well done by that Trio Ward by the way received a trio of honors this week in addition to being named ACC quarterback of the week cam Ward was also named Maxwell award player of the week the Maxwell is given to the outstanding player in college football it's like the Heisman but not the Heisman and the O'Brien award player of the week that's given to the outstanding quarterback in college football so very good debut for cam Ward Miami gets the 4117 win against Florida their performance is rewarded but it's a long season to come my friends 11 more games to play during the week here on lockon canes we're going to shift our Focus From the Florida win to what's to come against Florida A&M Miami's going to host the FAMU Rattlers this Saturday 6 p.m for the home opener at Hard Rock stadium and I would imagine that that building I know people make fun of Miami games at Hard Rock but coming off that win against Florida this town Miami South Florida is absolutely Juiced about what the Hurricanes did week one I have a feeling that's going to be a really good crowd on Saturday night and everyone come out support these players
