City of Grand Prairie: Mayor's Message June 2024

welcome to my mayor's message for June 2024 I'm mayor Ron Jensen and what a June is going to be because the time has arrived for one of the biggest cricket tournaments in the world the 2024 IC men's T20 World Cup and it kicks off right here in GP with the Opening match of the entire tournament as Team USA takes on Team Canada at Grand Prix Stadium on Saturday June 1st I'll be there join me and all we will play host to four group stage matches on Tuesday June 4th Thursday June 6th and finalizing on Friday June 7th tourism manager Sarah dellic joins us now to talk about the exciting lineup of events welcome Sarah tell everybody about the IC T20 World Cup event yes we are so excited mayor as you know we're g to we're so grateful to be able to host four matches one of them being the very first match to open up the entire tournament this is the first time that the USA will host This Global cricket event and we just couldn't be more proud now there's a lot of things going on so we are so grateful with you know people booking our hotels and coming in to see what all Grand Prairie has to offer aside from cricket Sarah is there anything planned for those not able to attend the World Cup because it's sold out but they still want to have fun yes we have a whole lineup to keep everybody that's interested in cricket entertained the whole time that the all four cricket matches are happening here but in addition to what having watch parties for those four matches we're also hosting a watch party for June 9th which is a super high-profile cricket match between India and Pakistan and then we're also having a watch party on June 29th for the finals of the Entire World Cup match all of this is taken place at Epic Central right in front of the jam box we're transforming the stage at the jam boox into a huge LED screen where people can bring their chairs their blankets set up watch the matches as you know be entertained by the water show Alivia restaurant bars all that around to keep everybody super excited and part of the matches aside from the World Cup are there any other cricket matches coming to Grand Prix soon yes so aside from World Cup which is obviously the Super Bowl of cricket we are very excited to welcome Major League cricket back for their second season and the Texas Super Kings which is our home team will kick off on July 5th that's really exciting Sarah where can people go find out more information yes so everything can be found on our website which is visit Grand prair tx.com if you do theicc World Cup right after that it'll take you directly to where you can see if there's any last minute tickets that come available for the matches it's where you can get all the information about the watch parties booking a hotel whatever you need is on that site it can also be easily found on our homepage hey thank you so much Sarah in the month of June also means the kickoff of another season for the highly anticipated summer reading club at Grand Pre libraries the main library Library will host a magical Library Quest kickoff celebration on Saturday the 1st from 10:00 a.m. to noon it features bounce castles face painting crafts play spaces for designated ages as well as a community art project SRC 2024 lasts from June 1st to August 31st and is open to all ages make sure you pick up your reading logs to win prizes for more information go to gptx.org library join me for my June cycling with the mayor on Thursday June 13th at ation skate park that's in the parking lot of lonar park on the North Belt Line Road for another funfilled evening while Riders of all ages and skill levels are invited to come along on my casual 5 Mile bike ride along the beautiful Lone Star Trail it's a chance to enjoy the outdoors meet new people and explore our community on two wheels we meet up at 6:00 and the ride starts at 6:30 for more information go to gptx .org getfit GP and you can also join us for a weekend filled with fun food and festivities as we commemorate juneth 2024 the weekend gets underway with the juneth volleyball classic at Dorth Recreation Center on Thursday the 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. followed by a cookout the next evening on Friday the 14th at Tyree Park starting at 600 p.m. and also that evening epic Central will host a juneth Block Party featuring live music entertainment food and lots of other attractions from 6:00 to 10: and then the next morning on Saturday June 15th it's the annual juneth parade starts at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall making its way all the way down to MLK Boulevard and ending at Tyrie Park where there will be a program that includes this year's gpisd juneth scholarship winners inspirational words from local and state leaders and more fun including another cookout with Burgers hot dogs and plenty of cold drinks to see the full schedule of juneth celebrations visit our community calendar at gptx.org until next month y'all be kind stay safe and live life Grand right here in Grand Prairie
