yeah it's that salacious story of immigrants and pets that has vaulted the issue of immigration to the top of the headlines but here in Springfield I talked to a number of people who say despite the city denying it they believe the story welder Matthew ball says he was surprised to hear Springfield Ohio mentioned so many times during Tuesday's presidential debate the salacious story mentioned during the debate they're eating the dogs the people that came in they're e eting the catch is something ball says he believes that's why you have him going to SN Park and choing enough Duck's heads in front of little kids and stuff the story persists despite the denials of city leaders we uh have not been able to verify any credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed Wednesday the city manager releasing a statement on Facebook calling the stories rumors it is disappointing that some of the narrative surrounding our city city has been skewed by misinformation circulating on social media you really think that happened I mean the city says they don't have evidence that had happened yes I've seen pictures yeah I've seen um especially social media and where I've worked supervisors like hey look at this Britney Graham is the same way she believes it because she saw it on social media you think that stuff that you're seeing on social media is true and actually happening um yeah there's been like pictures of people walking off with ducks so I tend to believe it I haven't seen anything myself really even the state's top law enforcement official is skeptical of the story of city leaders attorney general Dave yast posting on X today there's a recorded police call from a witness who saw immigrants capturing geese for food in Springfield citizens testified to city council these people would be competent Witnesses in court why does the media find a carefully worded City Hall press release better evidence this Springfield neighbor didn't want to give us her name but says she doesn't buy the story about the geese and the cats it's ridiculous and it's a lie why do you think it's a lie because of who's saying it goodbye now we have asked for the 911 tapes and the police reports regarding these alleged incidents so far we have not heard back from the city on our requests now no one at this point is denying that there were complaints made and we did see video of people complaining at city council alleging these things have happened however law enforcement tell us that at this point nothing has risen to the level of anyone being charged and they continue to say that there is no credible evidence that any of those things happened on your side in Springfield I'm Tom bosow ABC6 News [Music]
