capabilities that I can and will do it stop the run be able to rest pass just ex your Technique man I can do that well I can dominate he scrambles away he's going to get hit he's going to get sacked Josh Allen got him inside the 40 yd line he couldn't spin away that time what a play by Josh Allen I never like to say too much before the year starts cuz it's a long year and you got to earn it every week but I will say this is definitely the most talented team that I've been a part of since I've been here uh no question about that and I think the leadership is as good or better than I've ever whatever happens on Saturday on Monday when we come in should there be something from the preseason game or is that just too much to ask I don't know I think I I think that seems like a fair we need to immortalize week one of the 20 24 preseason I'll throw in some plays how about that I'm just saying I still got et's number all right play the thing is you can't go to the well too often or when you you make a new open you know it's not going to be as as fire so you know that you got to play that balance are you saying that the Jaguars have to win on Saturday for you to make an open uh no I'll make a new open how about a first team touchdown all right yeah yeah that's a much higher stand well if they're if they're sh even if they win if they're shut out till half time yeah you might go with the one we just heard that pretty good calls there by Frank right unless you get some Nathan roor type play yeah then we got to deal with that though I was excited Pockets I left a few minutes extra early from practice this morning to make sure I would be in my seat for uh and was not disappointed so job well done and by the way people like are you demand all these things to Dylan Dylan told us he was working on a new open yes he did so when I come on yesterday I go hey Dylan get us a new open I kind of had a little uh inside baseball on that one and he did that was going that way I thought it was a nice touch when Trayvon was talking I was like is that Trayvon I think that's Trayvon is that Trayvon we want to hear more from you Trayvon right and then you played the Highlight I was like it's definitely Trayvon that I just heard talking about going into year three cool uh that kind of thing ain't dropping into coverage no more he's very excited to not be dropping into coverage there'll be a couple of guys that aren't going to be doing anything for the Jag as they were released by the team yesterday the team did make a couple of roster moves adding safety Adrien Amos and defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall to make room for amamos and Marshall the Team Wave defensive tackle Adam gotsis aie aie aie o o o and cornerback Gregory Jr junior wave with an injury designation so if he does not get picked up by any other team on waivers he would revert to the Jaguars IR The Amos pickup you know I think demp is a pretty strong indication of what exactly is going on with Wingard and how long he may be out you know like it's just you don't make a move like that if you're feeling good about a pretty good group of safeties that they talk about feeling good about yeah at this point in the process but whatever's going on with Wingard it feels like it's going to hold him out going into the regular season at this point so they went out and got Adrien Amos who was a productive player he's going into year 10 of his career now was a productive player basically for the first eight years last year was kind of split between a couple spots didn't do a whole lot he's got 10 picks in his career yeah you know so I mean he's a vet he's not going to freak out if you throw him in there they've got a few of those guys Terell Edmonds on the roster you know that that but you're right t i I don't know when he's coming back I mean they made it pretty clear it's not season ending but no you know who knows U you know how long into the season you're going to need him and I don't know what to make I mean on the one hand I'm like oh depth chart fun right there's Bri it's nice to see Brian Thomas listen as a starter right and uh then you're like really I mean Luke frell I I don't hate Luke Farrell but is is he starting ahead of Brenton strange I mean is this where we're at second year with a second round pick that he's not ahead of Luke frell on the depth chart and you know some Mason Smith is he really fourth team come on no you know so I'm not buying half of what I'm seeing I don't know what to make of I don't know what to make of Darnell Savage being your free safety and Christian Braswell being your nickel corner which is not what we've been led to believe at all no throughout the process I do think you know everything you hear Christian brazwell is having an excellent camp and kind of the Greg Jr think I don't know the extent of his injury ton this feels a little bit like sneaky decky kind of we we can't keep you right we there's too many out there and we'll wave you somebody picks you up God bless and and go continue your career we've got a spot for you here on uh on injured reserve and hopefully you'll be part of our depth for the future but if you goes on injured reserve he's done for the year uh but I think that's in some ways indicative of what they feel is the depth at the competition at quarterback right now no doubt and it's pretty clear with the depth chart that they put out which we'll talk about throughout the show this morning we'll hear from Ryan neelson in just a moment talking about that depth chart who spoke before practice today Brian Thomas Jr's the first round pick He's listed among the starters right for the football team everybody else that was drafted this year basically they put him at the the back of whatever depth chart position they would be in it doesn't matter how good the reports have been early on in Camp for a guy like Mason Smith it didn't keep him from not being fourth among the defensive tackles listed it's it did feel like they said we're putting the rookies kind of in their place on this first first depth chart and that a lot of teams do that and there's nothing wrong with that hey Rook you got to earn your spot but who are we kidding Brian Thomas is gonna be a big part of the offense we if we drop him back there we look silly you know um Mason Smith some of these other guys they may not start so they look it doesn't really matter we'll hear what Ryan neon said about it here but uh yeah I'm not like getting all worked up about it I I've no reason to believe that Devon Lloyd is not starting alongside Foye Alin no yeah the or option with Chad Muma I'm not but and Chad Muma listed first ahead of Deon Lloyd it's not alphabetical Muma Lloyd right you know like why it's not don't don't buy it yeah and maybe if you've bought into all the dev Lloyd middle linebacker talk the last weeks right that he's not listed as a middle linebacker or they don't list to at the middle linebacker position which they were obviously willing to do at the weak and the strong side right like they had two listed among the starters for both of those positions at linebacker but middle linebacker the other guy you talked about being a middle line why couldn't you just list Foye and Deon yeah well you know what it reminds me of it reminds me of like when you get the the Sunday comics right and do they still print those in the P I don't know I haven't had a newspaper in my hand in a long time but D's like what are these things you speak of old man uh but you know the the picture Circle all the differences or Circle all like hey that guy's got two left feet yep that's one of them right there like I'm not buying this I'm not buying that you know that flower pot is floating in the air okay there's another one and uh that's kind of what it feels like to me like Can Can you spot all the obvious errors uh you know they got to put something out there so who cares what they put out there right now the Chad and Sandy real estate question of the day today asking the Jags unveiled a dep chart written in sand according to defensive coordinator Ryan neelon for the first time yesterday we included the link so that you can go take a look at it if you haven't yet what is your biggest takeaway from the first depth chart of the preseason well defensive coordinator Ryan neelson speaking before training camp practice this morning he was asked about what's going on with this first depth chart today no comment oh coach we talk with Coach but he's obviously got the final say but uh you know he he he does an awesome job of hey you know ask the staff you know what do you think on the players and everything but he's he's the one that's signing off on everything the depth chart is etched in sand so it can change really really on it could be game to game playing time I mean it's it's we we take this thing we've talked about this it's a one day at a time every single day counts every rep counts doesn't matter who that rep is against we're evaluating that player for what he's done on that particular rep on tape that matters you know in in in every aspect of the program um so yeah the first one comes out yeah it's it's the first one you know you have to put the name somewhere right that's something you have to do probably look for a different dep chart the next time you know cuz this game will be you know move some guys around um they you have to put some guys somewhere if they just come out and done Trevor Lawrence or M Jones or CJ bethard that would have been the best and like that would have told you how serious we should take this we see when Anton Harrison misses time with the concussion Co van lanon is the guy they're throwing out there they list Javon Foster as the backup at at right tackle and I I guess he is the second highest uh considered rookie Here Blake Hance listed ahead of Ty or Shatley well Shatley was the one that we've seen filling in for Ezra Cleveland so again you know this week whoever's healthy this will give you a better idea of what the true rotation is when they play Kansas City yeah and certainly the depth chart's going to change between now and week one going to Miami the players listed where they're listed here on the first depth chart but that's what we're asking for is your reaction to seeing what they put out it's the first time they've done anything like this they don't do it during the off season at all nor should they right but they're playing a game this week they're playing a game on Saturday so they release a very very unofficial as he said etched in sand depth chart before the game against Kansas City on I don't think Andy Reid will glance at it you know what I mean like they're G we're GNA run our stuff we're gonna put our guys out there and let's see what you got and you know it's going to be very vanilla and nobody nobody cares yes he's not going to be on Saturday's like they're they're playing Brian Thomas to start eight what like it's none of that kind of stuff's going to happen how many how many rips do you think he's going to get right like why is Mason on the field already this is very upsetting this is not what I was led to believe yeah like that's that's obviously absurd as our depth charts at this point in the preseason but still they put one out so we'll react to it today on the show and we'll hear a lot more from Ryan neelen you heard the one comment there he spoke this morning we'll let you hear what he had to say as uh he speaking for the and play all the way through the preseason so we'll take that mindset until something happens or until we can me O'Brien asking Ryan neelon this morning about Mason Smith and Jordan Jefferson particularly will they play in the preseason look for them to get out there this week and uh look for I I'm fascinated to watch some of these guys T like ones versus ones yeah I want to see more than anything a Trevor Lawrence Le offense go down the field and stick one in the end zone and have this Jaguar defense maybe get a hit or two on Patrick Mahomes get some pressure T got to get down and you know just walk away seven to three with first team feel good move on go to the Joint practices with the Bucks we don't need to see anybody on the field until week three of the preseason at least the the Frontline guys and then let's find out I think there are some really interesting battles and as somebody said I'll see if I can uh find a here here from Billy on uh Twitter this morning or X as much as I like gotsis as a solid football player it's a good sign that we raised the floor enough on the defensive line that it makes sense to let him go find another team I mean gotsis was been part of the rotation for a few years now and he's not a bad player yeah it's a good Pro you know and uh I know the Aussie Jag fans out there are not loving it probably CU he one of their guys but I mean it is a good sign overall and we think that defensive line has a chance to if they play up to the raw talent to be something this year we've talked a lot about the interior of the defensive line especially and how deep that group looked like it was going into this preseason going through the offseason well them being able to let go of a guy that is as good a professional as Adam gotsis has been in a jaguars uni form gives you another indication that they feel really good about the group they have right on the interior of the defensive line it's kind of the opposite of the Adrien Amos thing like that's a move you make because we're not sure exactly what's going to go on with Wingard right you know early on in the year we got a we wanted a veteran guy to play all these spots that especially for like Wingard is such a key guy on special teams for this football team that they have to figure out different ways to deal with that right he has been the special team's Captain you know know for the last couple years for this team if if he's not available early in the year it does change the jobs of some guys on game day of course more than it would most guys who are kind of considered your third or fourth safety on a football team but he does a lot more than just be somebody gets hurt he gets to play safety he does way more than that for the football team week to week um can I take a departure here and ask you question see if you think I'm crazy out here all right Seattle yesterday signed Conor Williams they did right and I'm wondering because there's been talk like he's supposed to be ready towards ACL last year but supposed to be ready for the opener and them signing him to a one-year deal makes me obviously think that they think he's going to be able to contribute significantly if not from day one pretty close to it right right and so we look at all these big interior offensive lineman contracts that have been given out we look at Ezra Cleveland's deal we're like wow that's pretty economical compared to like what Robert hunt got mhm Conor Williams is really really good when he's healthy he was yeah signed for what is it likeon be wor make six yeah am am am I crazy to think that I would have given him four with a chance to make eight and it's said let the best man win I know we got an investment in the Ezra Cleveland but he's a little bit banged up right now and and I don't know man I I feel like I don't think that's crazy you know like and maybe Conor Williams would be like look I want to walk into a starting job because I've got to rehabilitate my economic stock going into free agency next year so and maybe a non-starter as far as that goes I'm just like you know I don't know the money gets so nuts with some of these guys now and you're like wow this guy got this coming off of this injury or whatever and but when I saw that three million bucks with a chance to make six depending on performance and and play time and all that I like damn man wouldn't have hated it I mean you know it's it's an awkward position you've obviously identified Ezra Cleveland as a guy that you want to build that offensive line around right because Beyond you know Mitch Morris will be here next year Anton Harrison will be here next year and very disappointing that Anton didn't clear concussion protocol not certainly Anton's fault that wasn't able to practice today but and then Ezra Cleveland don't Brandon sheriff and probably gone who knows what the left tackle position right and what that will look like next year so this is a guy so I I do get that this is the direction we're going and we're we're all in there but like if Ezra Cleveland had an injury today and I think he's doing individual stuff today right so he's out there and cam was not on the list that I didn't notice so that looks like Cam's full go from what I could gather this morning cam Rob that's right yeah but if if Ezra Cleveland were to you were to find out today that he was going to miss six weeks would you love to go sign Conor Williams for for 3 million with a chance to make six that's not bad you know and and I'm not again I get it they've they've cast their lot they're going a certain direction I you know they're not going to change in Midstream right now but that's a pretty good player on the interior of the offensive line at a pretty economical value sure and you like I'm looking on ourlads and their dep chart already has Connor as the starter I would presume you know they for Seattle at the center position and that may that is a factor in whatever Connor want you know for his side of it too you but I'm with you I wouldn't have had any problem if the Jags wanted to bring in a player of that caliber to compete somewhere along that offensive line the offensive line is you got five guys right and when whoever your five starters are those guys when you look at the snap counts after a game you're not you feel pretty good if all five of those guys 100% s% that's what you want right like that's what you're looking for so it's it's hard to talk about offensive line depth it's a little different than it is at a bunch of other spots where they do rotate guys in so much but at quarterback on the offensive line at linebacker generally speaking you know you'll safeties generally play your two corners generally play you want them playing about 100% I would expect Tyson Campbell to play 100% right in most games this year now the other Corner Spot is a little bit more variable right with how much they want to put but there are a few spots on the on the field where you expect those guys to play 100% and if they're not doing that then you might have a sixth offensive lineman who gets eight snaps that week right because you just happen to have a formation where we wanted to add a lineman you know goal line that kind of thing they they play a little bit generally additional snaps it's not like you're taking your starting tackle out those other guys are playing 100% right they're playing your quarterback you're o line Foye Campbell that's close to it yeah right because a lot of like you said a lot of other position are going to rotate or you know look Tyson Camp plays 59 out of 60 staps it's not a big deal and I would expect among the safety Cisco will have the highest number right but will it be 100% and maybe there may there'll be games I bet where it's 100% sure this year but um anyway all right uh we're coming up on a timeout here so trying to instead of trying to squeeze in Ryan neelsen before we get there let's save him for the other side the Jaguars defensive coordinator speaking before practice today they're out there on the field and and wrapping up pretty short practice today I think uh getting ready to wrap up I think Brian Thomas going to speak after practice so that'll be interesting because he is they always point out he's very quiet he's very quiet we're trying to bring him out of his shell I saw caught a long one from TR a few minutes ago yeah a little bit of a bobbling catch or whatever you know but he caught it and uh beat Ronald Derby on the play and uh that was from the desk of Demetrius Harvey at least that's where I saw it uh out there saw the 1010 crew rolling deep as they usually are out there so you're going to get a lot of fresh audio coming throughout you know despite being his fourth string on the depth chart not buying it um Ryan neelson was asked about the Improvement he has seen from the Jaguars second round pick his Improvement that's that's been the biggest thing from from OTAs to the first day to to two days ago the the Improvement of of the player is him understanding and and playing defensive tackle it's a lot of same as you know same as blocks angles of departure things like that with the guard pass sets um actually really good pass rusher I me he done a good job in the pass rush game but just understanding how we play it's just a little bit different than you know and you look at his college like we talked about um he didn't have a a lot of playing time in college and so this is a guy that you know has had a couple injuries that now has been out there consistently so you're seeing the consistent you know him being out there and then pushing to get better every day yeah I had him among the five guys that were impressing me early on here in Camp and it's good to hear that from the coach this morning as he continues to impress them as well uh with what he's gotten done we'll see what that looks like Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and preseason just how much action he may get this week uh this morning Ryan neelson was also asked about looking at all the guys on that side of the ball just how important are reps in preseason football huge just playing you know from college to the to the National Football League I mean there's there's a big jump um blocking schemes things like that really at all positions you know speed of the game you know that's probably the biggest adjustment is the speed of the game um and in practice you know you're going but when it really gets to be game time to put the pads on um we we treat everything every day like it's a game day so we try to um curve that uh first experience for them to be like okay he really not that fast but then when you get out there for the first time you know for the first time with with a player being a rookie or even a seconde player that hasn't played very much there's a little bit of you know and then hey fellas it's still football and you know it's it's 11 on 11 and we're playing the same blocks and things like that so it kind of slows down for him you know reports are Malik neighbors been fantastic in Giants Camp right but T they just had who they had the joint practices with in the last few days Detroit right okay so he was quoted after those practices as saying like I kind of showed myself that I can play in this league right going up against some other guys it it there's steps in the progression you know cuz you're out there there in practice you're like okay I make a mistake I can correct it yeah going up against guys I know I'm not going to clean my clock coming across the middle things like that so everything is a progression and absolutely Mike Tomlin that hey the depth chart I put out is real Russell Wilson's our starter but not going to play Friday and Justin Fields is and what happens in these preseason games weighs more heavily than what happens in these practices so let's uh hope the Jags perform when the lights are on uh what about this aspect of Camp uh the fistic cuffs seen a little bit of it what's your take on that Ryan neelon we got to protect each other like you know that's Camp you know and uh you know tempers flare at times and But ultimately you know it's about the Jacksonville Jaguars and protecting our team you know so we've got to do good job at that uh can't fights happen you know they're happening everywhere and and uh you try to eliminate it but you know sometimes it's inevitable and so we we we'll learn from it and and get better good DBS yeah look uh the fights happen in training camp we'll see what that looks like next week with a another team out there with them in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that's when you see some of that craziness like you saw with Detroit and New York as you mentioned like those two teams have been putting up the Dukes every day out there and it's happened several times to the Daniel Jones is in the middle of it for God sake Trevor Don't Follow That League yeah to the point where I saw Adam Sher tweeted out about 15 minutes ago the league is finding both teams $200,000 cuz they just couldn't stop fighting they're at a training camp practice couch cushion money for for shot yeah it's not all that big of a fine but it is something that happens we'll see what that looks like with Tampa right now the Jags have only had the opportunity to fight each other on Saturday they get a chance to at least fist fight a little bit with the Kansas City Chiefs on the field as the preseason will begin neelon this morning also asked about a couple of young Corners that have been talked about a little bit but not too in depth to this point in the pre season young Corners in Prince and Braswell and just what they're doing right now in Camp sure that's a product of you know they're they're making the most out of their opportunities you know we we have some good depth you know at those POs at that position really all positions on on defense you know and they've they've played all over and and one of the cool things is it's it's against all all three quarterbacks different wide outs now more Jaguars hey you want us to continue with the show I thought we're gonna wrap it up here more Jaguars today still coming D you want us to continue on you redo that I no no I think we're good I think we got the gist of it you know some of these young Corners are playing well it's all good bro I look take the onus off me okay you know feel free to to have one of those per hour um I I wonder tone looking at the depth chart yeah and again it's written in sand right so don't take it for gospel but is the you know where you said uh Doug Peterson's ultimately the final Orbiter I'm GNA have some say does uh you know Ryan neelson go hey I want to acknowledge the camp that Christian brazell's H yeah and I want to maybe light a fire under Antonio Johnson a little bit here maybe Antonio Johnson your opening day strong safety or free safety I think they're almost interchangeable yeah right but you know for now we're going to let Savage as that and brazwell does the nod to how well he's played or it could be like all right let's put him here and it doesn't really matter that you know what I mean it may not even be that deep but it could be like one of those things that that within I got to believe those players are aware of where they fall in the depth chart and like if if that bothers you that you're not listed highly enough go out there and force them to put you hire do something about it absolutely all right where are we at here uh we we are jaran Jones that's where yeah you know lose my mind sometimes uh jaran Jones inside or outside where is he going to play as a corner this year really don't put expectations on the players you know hey here's your play time here's what you're going to do here's you know where you go in to the game fundamentals technique you know want to see him play fundamentals technique and then be where he's supposed to be within this gamee like that's what we're looking for him all the players you know and then we'll evaluate and go from there uh so we're not telling you yeah and that's fine you you don't have to tell us you know we're going to ask he'll play and like I get it man we you don't want the Miami Dolphins to know what you're play plan is to start the season you know and uh you know and you don't have to have some solid this is exactly what we expect out of everybody on August 7th either right like you can leave that open to we'll see what happens here over the next month before we get into what we're actually going to do against Miami and have some loose plan in your head of this is what we would like to see happen you know with Jan Jones over the course of the next month but it still has to happen over that period of time Chad Muma was listed as a starter at two linebacker positions on the first depth chart and coach was asked this morning what he's seen from Muma since the beginning of Camp yeah he's a he's a multi-position player you know and that's one of the things in OTAs he did a really good job he played all three spots he can rush the passer drops into coverage so just what his skill set allows you to do um a little bit more with him within the scheme that we do so he's done a great job in terms of understanding the scheme and he has gotten better fundamentals technique wise Matt's done a great job uh getting him prepared because at when you play three different positions you know rush the passer drop into coverage you know there's there's a lot of you know job requirements that you have to do you know so the time that he he focuses an individual and practice um you you are definitely seeing an improvement and is it interesting just because we've heard Devon Lloyd will be the middle and and Foy will be the weak side guy and we wonder will they just be almost interchangeable if you're running a lot of 425 stuff out there but ventro Miller is listed as a backup at the Mike and not at the Sam right the strong side linebacker where you see Abdullah is listed as the co-starter with Muma that's the one starting position that will probably be the least impactful in terms of actual minutes played snaps played right based on what we anticipate right now at least so um moving on a couple of other things here uh just overall how are the players adapting and and taking to the new Ryan neelon defense sometimes the learning curve is a little bit different for different players because the background what program did they come from the level of coaching that they had before um and so you see some of the guys pick it up a little bit quicker maybe because they did some similar things when we drafted them some guys may not have different positions things like that a position change maybe take a player a little bit longer so we do take that in into account um but really I mean how long we've been going at this 2 weeks I mean so really in the grand scheme of things we still have a month before we play you know and so we're really the next two weeks will be big you know for the young players of can they consistently do it and if they're a little bit behind or fundamentals techniqu scheme wise can they now since the scheme has slowed down in the installation can they pick it up and then in two weeks before you know the third preseason game the bye are they ready to go the defense has been you know the better side probably a a little bit more than half the time right out there at training camp to this point in time how much does that directly translate to what's going to happen on the field you know starting on Saturday when you are going to be playing an opponent and coach neelon was asked about how much practice does translate to the game field 100% 100% practice like you play you know and so we we treat every single day like it's a game day you know um one of the things is same gear you know same uniform everything be exactly the same treat it all the same leave it all on the line in practice and yes it's practice but if you treat it the same then Sunday you don't have there's there's not a different routine or so it it it's it's not different we we treat exactly the same and you know if you know the same routes a slant route is a slant route on the practice field as it is it is in the stadium you know a reach block is a reach block on the practice field is it is in the stadium and so we try to treat everything exactly the same to prepare this the player for Sunday that hey it's not different hey just trust your your fundamentals and technique understand the scheme and then play hard yeah it's not different in terms of your preparation what you're trying to accomplish but what's different is momes and Kelsey running out of that tunnel um I hope we do get a you know like 10 uh snaps a couple series or or one long series each well really for Kansas City you hope it's short because the Jags are getting them off the field but uh want to see that one-on-one uh ble ones V1 battle a little bit uh just wanted to mention teams were willing to give San Francisco yeah significant compensation whatever that I certainly think Jacksonville is establ enough with the quarterback and the options that they have here that it wouldn't be a hard no for myuk like it appears to have been in New England well he started following Trevor Lawrence and a few and like Gabe Davis at that time when the reports were Jacksonville might have an interest there been plenty of times where a player like that becomes available and fans go the Jags have to go get him it's like they don't want to be here yeah like it's obvious they don't want to come and be a part of what's happening in Jacksonville right now I think a player like auk would be fine with being a part of this I just don't know now after the draft if it's a move the franchise would try to make oh I don't I I I kid I don't think that there there's no indication that they are thinking going that way uh but you know you can't hate a guy for dreaming right I mean like because some of these offers that you're hearing are like second round pick and player X you know for iuk and like I've heard like Pittsburgh it might be heith right like could be that player X like second round Alexi the lineer who's dealing with the groin injury right now well they're not going to get makes no sense to trade George pickings to you know replace your one with and I don't know even if it's an upgrade there's not a bunch of skill guys there in Pittsburgh that at San Francisco would be like we need this back like it that's a bit of a different situation but yeah that's the kind of stuff we've heard is second round pick and a player like that you get the sense that I mean because the reports are both Cleveland and New England had what San Fran would accept on their end didn't want to go to New England don't know it doesn't appear maybe he wants to go to Cleveland I think it's been pretty evid Pittsburgh and Washington have been the two teams he's been most associated with and from my understanding the Steelers are maybe kind of lowball like we're the one team that that he wants to go to and will accept a long-term contract extension so you know hey if you if you want to you know get something for him now this may be your best path so you know it's it's a fun little game to play I think or at least to watch from afar yeah I I I haven't followed it that much because I'm I I don't really think the Jaguars are that involved with it so I don't I don't either but I I would be maybe a little surprised even if around the pre-draft you know missing out on Ridley you sign Gabe Davis because if you could have done it for like a second and something instead of the first and you give him that big contract then maybe you go who knows maybe you go o line in the first round right and then you've got your corner whatever or any number could been Corner could have been a lot of different routes uh they could go with uh so John a question for you I'll during these preseason and that's a real thing with rookies is uh even if they're highly drafted other was notable Brian Thomas was listed with the ones silly not to well but there's been silliness on dep charts yes a lot but that one seems so blatantly evident Garder and Trevor were competing um right well we we have adults in the room now so so uh it it's not absurd for coaches to sometimes until the regular season dep chart to have rookies low uh just because they want them to earn it you know and it's a big part of their uh pre-amp early Camp mentality for rookies yeah no question about it um so uh we asked yesterday which five players based on what you've seen and what you've heard now you see most of it um do you feel are having the best camps right it was interesting CU like for me I'm there for the first half of practice I don't see the the great stuff and I rely on you know what you and and Hayes and me and everybody else say the buzz right and and so my list was a lot different than Hayes Carlin list who's out there every day he listed a lot more Frontline guys I was more going with guys that I feel like have really started to make a name for the themselves you know so for you five guys that you think are having terrific hands they don't have to be D five yeah I mean people hate to hear it I think tanks had a good camp he was on my list uh you know uh think for sers I'm thinking exceed expectation man uh Christians had a really good camp I think um brazwell I mean Christian Kirk I think braswell's had a good camp jeren Jones had a good camp who whove stood out I'm not saying they're better camps than other people it's so hard for me to do lines uh during Camp because it's just not there yet so I think Devon Hamilton's had a good camp has stood out it that's four uh and Cisco had a really good day the other day so he top of my mind he put I put him in the F because I felt like he was having a solid Camp yeah and then he took it to a new level those are guys who show cam Little's head we we all have Cam little at number five on our list yeah so those are guys I think that was six but those are guys who if you ask me if I was writing about it who would pop out those would be five or six well like Hayes I think had uh Trayvon I know he had Josh hin Allen on there you know he had a lot more of the the Frontline guys which is good I always think of that question as who sort of stood out I agree surprise is exceeded expectation and I name I expect Trayvon and Josh to look dominant um because I think they're dominant forces so I don't surpr uh Devon I think think stood out because of what happened last year and to me it's so clear that he's back to being that Stout ability to penetrate guy uh he's really stood out to me so we uh uh Tony and I both had Mason Smith in at number four on our list because I think you know again this is more based on the reporting because I don't get to see a lot of the the one-on ones and the the full contact stuff but uh it's interesting because I look at Mason Smith and it's so easy to see he Eric Armstead right like future body type skill set when you're standing across the field it sometimes when Eric Gets on pads it'll be hard to tell him apart so from 50 yards my feeling about him is like he is going to be a guy that ultimately uh causes a lot of Havoc as maybe a three technique a guy who could penetrate and all this but he's been gotten a lot of praise for his run stuffing ability you know which is great I mean that may be the thing that gets him on the field you know as as Doug Peterson said we're going to see eight guys we want a wave of guys this year yeah and that's the way these guys want to play and Ryan neelson today in his presser uh really praised Mason Smith as a pass rusher now often as a rookie it can be hard for that sort of praise to show up from a defensive interior defensive lineman in a lot of sacks but the fact that they're noticing traits and flashes as a pass rusher in his first training camp is it is a really good sign for what they want him to be usually when we get this deep into Camp John we talked about this right at the end of the show yesterday there's a couple of guys that are standing out for the get they got to do something now right like they need to start showing something now I I haven't heard any of that to this point in Camp with the 2024 Jack has any of that kind of thing stood out for you or what would you say would be the reasons why this year compared to other years that kind of thing hasn't happened I'm not sure I get the question like a guy who hasn't performed yet or um uh why had it happened maybe the positions haven't lent itself to it like okay you're waiting for a a a running back to step up and tank sort of has so sure uh I don't know that you're necessarily waiting for Travis or uh you know Jamal Jackson has looked really good or uh uh jayen Jaylen Jackson I'm sorry the running back at at at wide receiver Gabe Davis who you would be looking at as okay he didn't play in OTAs uh okay when's he gonna start he had a really nice catch today he's looking okay so I think the players are just the guys who would normally fall into that are doing okay I'm not trying to avoid the question I'm just trying to think of who would sort of fit into that category sure um and there's really not M Jones I think has you there's been spots where just okay but then there's also been spots where you look at him and say boy the zip on his passes yes and the moments he has you're like okay I can see that guy having a good three in a game right couple of weeks if we needed it I guess I haven't seen a guy if tank wasn't playing well would definitely put him into that category he he'd be a guy who would fit that but he is so I don't know that I off the top of my head I see a guy who's that um maybe it'll come to me it look they couldn't they wanted to rely on tank they couldn't last year because ball security issues um the other guys outside deis Johnson are very young right Jackson Helen Robinson right deis Johnson need to do something to secure a roster spot here well I don't think I don't think kelen would take his roster spot because I think they have him more as as a returner I don't know that because he hasn't played very much in Camp I don't know that you could put him as pushing durus yet um Jaylen Johnson's looked really good uh but you sort of sense that he would be practice squad more than push deest but so much of that running back um like last year after the first preseason game I remember were talking to deest afterward and he was like look I gotta play well to make the te like so he I don't think he ever really thinks he's got it made he's always going to be pushed so and I think preseason performance in those spots especially at running back maybe makes as much of a difference as any position in terms of preseason games deciding fate down the line of the roster it's not the only position battle we'll be watching but if you're you know worried about the third fourth running back it's it's probably a good thing I usually go into preseason games with a couple of storyline ideas that might be like the follow-up story uh running back position battle would certainly be one that if somebody has a good game that would be a think he doesn't want to talk about it when it's when it was going on and just let the sort of the powers to be you know handle all the particulars and let us focus on football so I don't get involved with that I I it's the smart way to go yeah right it's done now unless you're stumping for your guy you know like hey I fully believe he's worth the money or whatever and you know for me I wouldn't talk to him about it because I'd be all jelly like damn it give me a little slice of that yeah uh Doug Peterson also asked about evaluating we start preseason football this Saturday with the Chiefs coming to town and Doug was asked about evaluating the pre-season it's kind of a fine balance you know you want your starters to get some some time in these games to kind of feel the pressure of uh of playing a little bit and getting some work done uh but you really got to evaluate probably the the majority in the bulk of your roster and and so that's what preseason is all about all right uh you we always like to bring you thoughts from the head coach whenever he speaks and this is with the rich eyes and show yesterday it's not all you know groundbreaking stuff but uh we'll just wrap with this because we just heard a little bit from Brian Thomas he gives an update on his progress and then just goes into talking about his chemistry that he's developing with Trevor Lawrence Brian is just a a great a great person number one he he's he's quiet you know and and we're trying to pull that pull that out of him but he he's done a great job he's he's really picked up our offense Chad Hall has done a nice job just just coaching him and getting him prepared and ready and you know the speed spe is the speed is real and and that's something that uh you know we lost Calvin Ridley in the offseason that was our speed element but we feel like we got that back now in in Brian Thomas getting him caught up with with Trevor really just getting getting on the same page and and working out some timing and some details and practice and and that's what that's what training camp is all about and and these these preseason games you know opportunities to you know get a couple targets his way and and see what he can do but you know we've got some time to to get ready and we're excited where Brian is currently and where he's where he's headed and and the potential that he has to add um add another element to our offense yeah and you know tone we've beaten this into the ground over the last few months but for everyone's oh you're G to replace Calvin Ridley with Gabe Davis no you're G to replace him with Brian Thomas basically is what you're doing and that's what Doug is acknowledging and Gabe Davis is hopefully going to be an upgrade over Z Jones we'll see how it works out that way of Camp so far D nice play yeah was really I mean it was it was a big time throw timing down the sidelines so it was uh it was impressive to say I am very curious to see when we get in the regular season exactly how he is utilized right because you look at him out there and you're like man he's really a rugged physical receiver but you look at those yards per catch average averages in Buffalo and you're like he's a get down the field guy here you know so I I think that Brian Thomas will be you know develop into the primary field stretcher but that's in gab's bag as well well when you have two it it allows you to stretch it on both sides obviously which really stretches the middle when you have two it's harder for a safety to give help over the top to one guy so that's uh they felt like they needed two guys to stretch the field and they feel like they have it well um let's cool it down John by talking about the offensive line I hope that's not foreshadowing of how they'll perform this year I hope they are RedHot and just are are Road grading people but just looking at who is not available today uh you know they' hoped to have Anton Harrison back still in the concussion protocol which to me doesn't bode well for his availability this weekend but I'm not there yeah I'd be surprised at this point if he plays right just because of timing if you come back you're getting in one practice tomorrow so maybe you don't have him um Ezra Cleveland doing individual work with the heel issue Hooper Hodges dealing with the back injury doing individual work Steven Jones with a calf some your depth cam Robinson not listed as Limited in any way so that's good he was back today from what I he was back today and from what I recall I think he was doing team stuff pretty sure that's what it sounds like right these are updates that Demetrius Harvey the the Times Union put out before practice today uh what's your feeling about first let's start spefic specifically with Ezra Cleveland right because Hayes carine brought up yesterday he's like hey you know I hope it works I look at the guy if you were to look at his lower body you're like is that an NFL guard he's a little trim you know and they do like his athleticism that's one of the reasons I think that they like him is his ability to get out and pull uh and in his own blocking scheme that's very important uh but what are your thought prior to the heel issue what kind of Camp did you feel Cleveland was having looks fine uh to me with offense of lyan if you don't notice them it's it's good uh I don't know how much I ever noticed them as standing out during Camp uh but he didn't look like he was losing one-on-one pass rush drills very often and he looked fine uh he didn't Stand Out negatively so uh I think he was having a good camp I'm I'm not going to sit here and say that I was doing cartwheels we're not breaking down Old Line film every day so I another to worry about there and he's been an NFL starter for a long time uh I think he's very very serviceable I is my impression I think he can I think he can get the job done I don't know if he's going to be a pro bowler but like we talked about during the break you paid him about 8 million that's about going right for a guy you feel like who can go get it done young right it's it's it's economical compared to what the top of the market is I mean it's less than half of the top of the market but you know hopefully he's better than you know like 40% of the best guard out there you're paying him like 40% I think that's reasonable to expect um the irony is Mitch Morrison Brandon Sheriff how are they gonna hold up they've been the healthiest two starters on the offensive line which I think is is a real positive because you don't want obviously older guys to start off with issues that they're dealing with so takes a little longer to bounce back so let me ask you from Team full contact practice we've had several of them now where they're doing goal on short yardage stuff H oine versus dline like is it dline winning 65% of the Reps 45% of the Reps is it been fairly even have they each had their their days it feels even and it feels maybe as much as any camp that I can remember like it's really been each has their days like the a couple of days and even early in Camp people remember oh the offense was terrible um that really wasn't imp PS you don't count that but there's been a couple of days where you felt like boy Bigsby had some big holes today uh they doing a nice job run blocking uh when they did their live goal line stuff I want to say that was last Friday if memory serves uh offense scored three touchdowns on his first four plays so that tells me they're they're getting space where they need it able to score I would have taken that kind of performance last year in most games I take that ratio in the regular season right because you want your defensive line to be up to the task as well so it feels like it's been some days defense some days offense um I don't know if I could give either a particular Edge but uh OB has been holding its own against what I think is a pretty strong defensive line if you consider uh Devon Hamilton and Trayvon Walker and Josh Allen so I say the offensive Line's doing okay so far I haven't seen anything to fear we asked the question on Monday given the injuries they had coming into the week along the offensive line with three guys that are at least on the injury report this week among the five starters among the guys that aren't starting offensive lineman for the team so the backup lineman for the football team Beyond Walker little who we know exactly what his role is he's the swing tackle y feel comfortable with him if he has to step in for cam at left tackle we know that about Walker little who is the next most important or best backup offensive lineman that the team currently has going into the year Well you want it to be Cooper Hodes but he's been out so he hasn't really shown that uh Blake Hance is the guy who would sort of step in at a lot of different spots in case of injury that's what he did last year I'm assuming he's still top and then Shatley keeps plugging along so I because Cooper Hodes has not been on the field uh I think you'd have to say Shatley on the the interior I Javon Foster's been impressive I don't know if he's ready to I he's certain not ready to supplant Walker little as a swing tackle uh is he ready to be active probably will have to be active because somebody else would claim him during the season right but I don't know if he's ready to be a guy who plays at the start of the Season yeah I and you look at you know first opportunity with Anton Harrison in the concussion protocol Co van lannon's been the guy getting next rep at right tack that to me is more indicative of where things stand than the depth chart that put out yesterday which did have Foster as the back up it right now and Van lon's been a guy who's been on the practice squad been active uh I've talked before on this show about the fact the practice squad now is sort of your next seven or eight guys that you think you're going to rotate in and out van Lannon and and Hance and those guys would seem to fit into that sort of a rotation all right so we presume Anton doesn't play this week maybe Ezra Cleveland I'd be surprised if they push Ezra back out okay so what what's the starting five for you know when Trevor Lawrence is out there at least well I would think little at right uh cam at left uh we know moris and Sheriff are gonna be in there I'd say I'd say Shatley first but maybe forer to see how he does out there I mean at guard he's worked a little bit you just put a chill up the spot F some Jaguar fans like let's see how he does in the second quarter um maybe I me um I would guess I would guess Shatley uh he was the one taking you know like in the stadium practice he was next man up he's been next see them getting uh corners and refs for the first team okay like HS again listed as the backup left guard right now so but take it all with a major grain of salt well but Blake's always the guy you overlook and then he's always the guy who's active when they need somebody yeah I'm not look I'm not saying he couldn't open the season as that but you know you know you kind of know what he is well Shatley is the one like next man up he was the next man up so I would think that that's an indication of where they're leaning um you know most of the people uh we asked today the question what's your reaction uh to the first unofficial depth chart and most of the people you know kind of scratching their head at a couple of different spots and that's that's fine I like I reaction is really don't overreact to it you know at this point I the rotation something they have to put out that somebody puts it together Doug takes a look at it and says yay nay yeah move this guy around that's fine knock the rookies down to the fifth string in some cases it's interesting fodder uh as Ryan neelson said famously today the depth chart is etched insane ET and sand but you know it will be more telling when they open up on that offensive who's out there on Saturday you know Kansas City with bad intent in their hearts you're trying to protect your franchise quarterback and you watch that and you watch kickoff to see who's on on on first kickoff because that's usually an indication of who's going to be your backups yes uh and you know the kickoff thing I don't know what approach you're going to take this week it was in the Hall of Fame game so it wasn't necessarily vanilla I mean they they gave a lot of opportunities for returns but I think they'll stick strategy vanel I'm just saying who's in the game no I understand what you're saying I'm just saying that that is an angle that you know as much as we're intrigued to see how that changes the dynamic I don't know if we're going to learn anything in the next four weeks yeah I think week one is when you'll figure that nobody's going to show their hand right nor should you um what do you got cooking over at jaguars.com in that uh the huddle up Podcast just conferred with um some of the team officials um over at the Jags I know you guys were just talking about Cooper Hodges Cooper Hodges and cam Robinson since they were participants in team periods today I did have an official confirm with me that that was because they passed a certain threshold during individual drills and so the athletic training staff deemed them good enough to go for team periods which again it's just practice but it's obviously a sign in the a great sign heading towards and looking towards Saturday against the Chiefs knowing Anton Harrison still in the concussion protocol yeah definitely I mean for cam he was not really even with an injury design destion today and Cooper Hodes looked like he might be limited so the fact that he did team stuff uh was good sounded like uh based on what you're reporting Gabe Davis had a nice day yeah nice day for Gabe Davis no no drops from what I could see no overthrows from Trevor I thought Trevor was pretty sharp overall I know a lot will be made out of how he was flushed out of the pocket twice I only had him for two incompletions during team periods today and yes the connection between Gabe and then Brian Thomas Jr certainly sharp um and would have been two touchdowns between Brian Thomas J and Trevor Lawrence if not for a great play on the ball by Antonio Johnson uh if the Jags offense goes down and scores on their opening possession we're going to Rave about how great this team looks and if they fail to do so we're going to be like see I told you you know I say we I think that the general conception will will overplay or underplay whatever happens on Saturday let me be uh glass half full here gentlemen and I'm curious your perspective because this was posed to me on the sidelines of practice today um my expectation and this is just based off what Doug said on Monday is that if let's say the quote unquote first team offense does start the game they go down the field 10 to 13 plays they score a touchdown I think that Doug Peterson would say at least just based off previous experience all right great job and on a high note and on a high note my question for you again glass half full what if Trevor Lawrence 52 yard touchdown to Brian Thomas Jr on the first play do you pull the starters then no N I give them one I think they want to get about I'd be excited but as much as we always talk about series when they're planning they usually go snaps yeah let's get between X and Y snaps and usually if they go three and out uh twice let's get one more in there because they only played six Place yeah getting up like eight it would be a cool thing it all be for it and I think there'd be plenty of folks saying okay pull them keep them in bubble wrap he jump up two rounds in fantasy draft Brian Thomas would at that point they're trying to get work all right Mia what's coming up on helmets and heels interview with MC Jones which segueing perfectly into our conversation regarding preseason game number one he is very excited to play in the preseason because if you recall he did not play in the preseason each of the past two years in New England and so we will catch up with Mac we also will have the very latest from Florida State practice which boo boy did they make our lives easy today Gentlemen by having practice at the flex field because the field at UNF still a
