Taylor beach in maosen in the early afternoon families are filling the spaces but this morning a Grizzly Discovery here someone on their way to go swimming stumbled upon four people lying on the pavement they immediately called 911 despite the best efforts of the First Responders uh two adult females were pronounced deceased at the scene uh with two adult males uh showing clear symptoms of drug overdose we're trans reported to hospital where they remain in critical condition the four are all M chosen residents and all are known to police we are still contacting the family so I don't want to provide any more information than that until we can confirm that their next of kins have been notified the tragedy unfolding just steps from John Kelly's property adjacent to the parking lot I saw um a whole bunch of activity as far as the emergency vehicles and First Responders at after 6 sometimes 6 6:30 uh the dog started Bing and so I came out with my coffee and sat on our porch over there and uh watch all the activity Kelly said multiple ambulances came and went along the narrow road if nothing ever happens down here at night everybody's really respectful you go down the beach during the weekends when it's fairly crowded and it's all families down here and it's it's a quiet beach the discovery coming on the eve of international overdose awareness day and as new numbers are released by BC's coroner we now know 192 people died from toxic drugs in BC in the month of July that's about six people every day it's a 15% decrease from the same month the year before 40 people died across Island Health in July a slight increase from July of last year Central Vancouver Island continues to have the highest number of deaths with 121 in the first 7 months of this year followed by 103 in the South Island and 66 in the north the coroner now tasked with investigating two more suspected overdose deaths here at Taylor beach with hope the two men in critical condition Will Survive
