before more of them are killed. It's going to see right now to Turkey. Authorities there holding 15 people in connection with the assault of 2 U.S. service members. The attack happening Monday afternoon and all of it caught on camera. Our global affairs correspondent Maya Rodriguez is live right now on the scene in Washington, D.C., It and in my and we know how the Marines are doing. >> Yeah. also we know that 2 Marines are said to be OK and safe after the attack. This, of course, happened in the port town of is near along Turkey's Aegean coast. Like you mentioned, video captured what happened and it shows a group of men surrounding the 2 Marines on Monday afternoon in a commercial area of town, Turkey's state-run media said the men are part of the Turkish youth Union. That's a nationalist political party that holds anti-American views. Now during the incident, the men can be heard saying Yankee go home on the social media platform X the group accused the U.S. soldiers of carrying, quote, the blood of thousands of Palestinians on their hands to Marines are assigned to the USS Wasp. That's an amphibious assault ship in the days prior to this incident, the USS Wasp has been conducting training drills at sea with the Turkish Navy. Turkey, of course, is a key U.S. ally and a member of NATO. The USS Wasp is in the region as part of the U.S. military's positioning of assets to deter a wider conflict from a rough thing in the Middle East. Now, local Turkish authorities and the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service are both investigating the attack. They're expecting to hear more from the Pentagon about all of this during their news briefing a little later on this afternoon. So my what questions are we hoping the Pentagon will answer today? for one thing? There's this question of whether this was an isolated incident. I mean, something similar to this happened back in 2014 that's 10 years ago now involving U.S. service members and this same Turkish group. There is also a question >> about whether or not there was some sort of cordon age coordination, a rather planning involved in this attack, just considering the sheer number of people who are involved in this style. >> You know, I'm thinking back to a little more than a decade ago when there was that massive earthquake in Izmir is met in Turkey and United States was among the key responders to help the region recover short memories.
