Week 1: Nevada @ Troy #eaprediction

[Applause] welcome to Troy Alabama a lot of fans might think that running through the tea is reserved for the volunteers of Tennessee but the Trojans here at the vet would strongly disagree as we are set for a showdown on The Wire grph there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the Nevada Wolf Pack taking on a team from the belt the Troy Trojans for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started the Trojans will get us underway with the opening [Applause] kickoff and he takes this from inside the five and he is brought down but there is a penalty marker on the [Applause] [Music] field so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty the offense lining up for a first down play the lone back's got it follows a good block there picks up threes out to the nine and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest got three on first down it's second and seven Lewis wants to pass oh he's going to try to get it all here oh and he gets downfield for the big catch yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go with the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giv them and creating the explosive play Nevada going quickly from the gun the G looking for room it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven [Applause] to the ground with the back and Midfield he's got R finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early they'll run it from the gun and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense got eight on first down now looking at a second and two the hand to the running back Wolfpack will get the first down you got to have short area quickness that running back there doing what it takes to make sure he got that first [Applause] down Wolfpack will have first and 10 Lewis to throw fires toward the end zone and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on yeah and I love taking deep shots I think it makes cornerbacks play honest safeties play honest and you could tell just missed a little bit deep on that shot but listen those are shots that we want to take because the risk is definitely worth the reward off play action makes the grab on the left Powers through the defender he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down you know it's funny I know running backs often times are afterthoughts when it comes to the passing game but when you think about it this guy's been making people miss his entire life taking handoff so why wouldn't you try to get him involved in the passing game as well you just saw in that last play how dangerous he is after the catch he'll pull it on the read and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up yeah and it's so hard to contain this guy with all those options he has and the experience at the quarterback spot but nice job by the defense limiting the damage didn't give up a huge game going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they'll try the Run oh he gave him the Lim leg and he rolls into the house touchdown wolf pack and they just keep feeding it to their Workhorse back to open this game great job in the open field he's got tremendous Vision he can make people miss you saw all of that on display here in the opening [Applause] drive lining up to tack one more onto that lead the extra point and he's got the extra point and it's s nothing to start this one that makes the score Nevada tro lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll start the return inside as SP he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 so Troy's offense will try to get something going with their first possession as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of them yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regard which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine the give to the tailback at the 35 he's loose the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 those outside runs if they can get the Edge like they do great job by the Right Guard right tackle getting the edge and now what does this do this makes cornerbacks come up and Tackle safeties come up and Tackle as opposed to linebackers and big defensive players you get your guy out in space where he can use his speed and his physicality against guys that usually cover and don't come up and make tackles they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the backfield he'll lose a couple well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a loss after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 just when they're looking run now up top got it in the middle it's Taylor and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 man this guy's going to need some water when he gets to the sidelines they've been putting him to work on this drive right right we've seen him tote in the rock with success now you're seeing him get involved in the passing game too they are highlighting his versatility here on this drive and the Trojans come to the line in the hurry up back to pass it's Crowder lets it fly deep downfield and they won't be able to connect downfield looking for a big time play quarterback trying to attack the middle of the field I like the aggressive nature but but his receivers aren't 9 ft tall no one's going to catch that no one can climb the ladder you got to bring it down a little bit after missing the connection last time it's second and 10 from the 22 trying play action caught over the middle it's Ross that completion takes them down to the seven yd line and they are ready to strike great job by the offense listen if the defense is going to sit back in zone you know what you got to do run those crossers across the formation those guys that they're looking at the quarterback they're not trying to pick up receivers all the time make those precise throws right in those holes get those first downs get those big chunks looking to throw makes the grab they'll Mark him down at the two the excellent execution on that throwing catch I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game they've moved it forward to the two now it's second and goal he'll run it to the right here and try to get it into the end zone that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a loss of six and the offense they're just trying to be physical they're trying to run this ball in down close to the goal line the defense though they at having none of it third and goal from way back there from the gun wants to pass feeling some heat and he can't escape and down he goes and that's a great job by this defense you don't care about yards anymore yards are arbitrary let him drive down the field so be it you want to keep touchdowns off the board and they might have just done that with a sack right there now on fourth down they'll try to come away with three the holder will Kno at the 24 a 34 yarder coming from the right hatch he splits to yepes and puts three on the board [Music] after putting up a three spot the kickoff unit set to go on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field sweet feet on the move he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs you know the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying to the ball carry you saw it on that play getting a tackle for loss last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 they'll Run play action got away from trouble and got rid of it catch in the middle it's Smith nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down that is an excellent throw by the quarterback finding the window between the zones and delivering that ball on top wolf pack with a first and 10 here wide out in motion the give on the inside at the 45 on it way he's run out of bounds but but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down yeah defensively you better be ready to run east and west when you're playing against this offense in their running game that time the offense was able to outflank the defense to the right side for a big play Nevada going [Applause] quickly off the play fake on first down and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second Lewis wants to pass and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down and the big tight end a lot of times that's a bigger Strike Zone a bigger dude and you can tell they put the hit on him and that ball came out and it came to the turf nice job playing physical by this defense they were really starting to put a drive together and after a couple of incompletions now they need a big play on Third and 10 it's caught he's brought down but he's got him inside the 10 first and goal from the eight and that's a really good example of a quarterback and his intended target both being on the same page the timing was almost perfect on that play that's why they were able to convert the third down now setting up first and goal Nevada comes to the line on first and [Applause] goal they'll try to get it in with the Run not much room he gets one down to the seven this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming looking for a path to the end zone to the right they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one man that hurts because second down you got everything in front of you the whole play with open now you get a lost yardage play now it's third down now it puts those feet to the fire a little bit more now you better come up with something you really love in this area of the field third and goal where the fire purifies and separates contenders and Pretenders quickly [Applause] complete how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter stats and they've swapped ends of the field and we'll get it going in the second they'll send out the kicker here a short kick but that angle from the right can be a little tricky oh the attempt is no good guys after the Miss still up by four well everybody in the stadium thought that was an automatic three not so fast bad Miss by the kicker [Music] guys the Troy offense returns to the field guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win didn't get much on first down it's second and nine hand off from the gun stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 and sticking to the run I tell what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one looking to throw it's Crowder they're bringing he and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 that's a good example there of complimentary defense the DBS and linebackers are playing Zone they're playing their spaces and they force the QB to to have to hold the ball try to work through his progressions and then the pass rush they win up front the Trojans line up to punt it away to take it [Applause] [Music] away coverage team able to put a stop to that return at the 42 yd line Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone halfway there on first down it's second and five right back to him and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark they'll snap it from the 47 on first down the give to the back a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and [Applause] three they go to the counter he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple nice play by the defense but now is a time they've got to be more consistent they allowed this running back to go off in that first half and moving forward now they've got to try and take this running back away here on third down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Lewis to throw fires to the wide out complete to the left finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down [Applause] from the Red Zone looking for a man that's real in it's Howell and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yard situations the give on the counter nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry when a running back has had as much success as this guy's had so far listen defense has got to queue in they got a queue in to him he's priority number one number two and number three that's a good start to maybe turning this defensive eff around remember they missed a field goal on their last drive but at the very least they need to get back in field goal range here on third down pass rush gets there gets home gets him down at the 23 things working pretty well for this defense out of the dime package and still getting plenty of heat on the quarterback get off the rock understand the situation all the fast guys got the back end covered it's my job to seek and destroy the quarterback great job by the defensive line rushing after that guy and getting him on the ground and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time [Applause] tonight it is good that makes the score 10 Troy three [Applause] they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last Drive he'll bring it back from inside to spot he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 so guys we'll have another look at this Troy offense RS one deep down the right side and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in Hey listen the quarterback didn't get the completion on that throw but that doesn't mean you can't try again trust in your Playmakers outside to push the field and stretch it vertically and make a play for you it won't surprise me to see this QB take more shots as this game goes on this time he's got his man thr little hit route that's getting the ball out of his hands quickly wide receiver quarterback nice job being on the same page nice completion nice catch this is where you make the money on the drive ball at the 30 it's third and [Applause] to the ground to try to pick up the first he'll be stopped short picks up one but they're facing fourth and one at the 32 yth down coming up and the Trojans will line up to pun it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's Robinson that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field they go to the ground not much working there it'll be second and nine the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys Lewis wants to pass using the back as a receiver on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short gain there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down yeah and you're going to see this offense find different ways to get this running back involved it's not just going to be on handoffs and certainly going to line him up in different places and even throw him the football but the screen game is a big part of it too to try to get him going there in the gun looking to throw on third down deep shot for the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete the wolf pack will line up to putt it away it away no return coming he'll call for the fair catch now the Trojan offense returns to the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes yeah and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to use and attack them well I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride and they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first might as well give it to him again finds that crease and he's got four out to the 29 you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six back to pass it's Crowder fires to the big fell and they'll spot it at the 38 and that'll be plenty for the first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding its Blitz and not just that it's Blitz but knowing whether it's man coverage or Zone coverage behind the blitz you still got to know where your answer is going to be based on what the defense is doing in the back end and he add the answer to the test right there quarterback on the keeper and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go the offense thought they had a good look to run that play into with the QB but there's is an example of a Defender winning his one-on-one battle and making a tremendous play great effort by that guy and now on second down for this offense the clock has reached the two-minute Mark and they have a chance to at least cut into this lead before the [Applause] break they'll line up for a second down play he's looking to throw gets it out quickly he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down this quarterback right now is an improved he's doing a nice job in pre- snap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now got to get to the line quickly for this third down play they'll try to get it through the air caught near the sticks it's Conor knocked down immediately but a big gain down to the 45 well they pick up the first against Zone C I think a big part of this for young quarterbacks out there is if you're going to be throwing into Zone coverage you got to throw on time you can't stare down receivers because the entire defense has their eyes on you so you can't Telegraph where the ball's going you've got to hold it to the very last possible second try to freeze Defenders with your eyes and then throw the ball into open areas of the field anticipating where your guy's going to be and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short gain man you see so many smart watch receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in him and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays throws to the wide out it's complete and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 from the Red Zone looking for a receiver he wants it all he snares it in the end zone touchdown [Applause] Troy yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you Trail a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second [Music] [Applause] half now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic splits the up [Applause] right they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering looking for those open spaces and opportunity couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field Lewis to throw unloads to the wide out a strike downfield the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback ripping through the defense and getting it all the way down to the 24 yd line quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds the analytics nerds will tell you that a four- yd pickup on first down is a successful play Let's see what they have on First and 10 the offense calls a timeout to stop the clock that play was designed to go to the running back they were hoping they were going to get man coverage and one-on-one that back is going to win that matchup every single time getting some heat pass rush gets there gets hold gets him down at the 23 we just sort of felt like this defense had to do something to get this quarterback out of a rhythm right he's been picking them apart all Drive long and finally they come up with a sack clock winding towards zbo they'll get one more snap off double time hustling to the line they spike it to stop the clock [Music] [Applause] and as the first half draws near to a close here comes the field goal unit kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive they'll Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update guys you've been calling a lively one so far in Troy today and we've got to start our halftime breakdown with this Superstar running back his elusiveness his raw power this young man man is the total package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys could hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing game and with that let's head back to our team inside Veterans Memorial [Music] stadium Nevada set to kick off to start in the third quarter away looks as if the returner will try and field this one and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive Line gets set first down going to the run to start this second half open space at the 25 he'll get it up to about the 32 yd line before he stopped and it'll be first down well you wonder if one of the adjustments they made at halftime trailing in this game was to try and get the ground game established David and they're off to a good start here dang right stay patient you don't have to worry about it you don't have to press just try to get scoring Drives together don't abandon the run off play action on first [Applause] down right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get it I just love the job this offensive line is doing in this game communicating pre- snap they know where the pass rush is coming from and they're working their single and double teams and not giving up any ground just look how clean that pocket was for the quarterback to throw from making sure they have good balance keeping it on the ground and a decent gain there before the defense makes a stop I know the passing game sells and the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four trying to impose their will with the run and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land man nowhere to run on that play at all about all you can say is do better but that's the problem are they able to do better and that's why you keep trying things right keep trying to get on the perimeter running up the middle try different things to see what you do well dropping back it's Crowder finds the tight end nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 well they pick up the first against Zone coverage the biggest key there is the quarterback understanding that a it's Zone but B what kind of zone is it is it one high safety is it two high safeties and then you know instinctively where your best throw where your highest percentage completion is based on what type of Zone coverage it's going to be and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down not many receivers like to get hit they just don't okay they're pradon that's what they are that's who they are nice job by the defender you could tell he was catching the football he was going to put a hit on him to make sure he had to think about something later and you could see the ball pop out and fall to the ground leaves it with the running back one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass wide open downfield brought down just outside the Red Zone he moves the change it's at the 22 well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression Taylor has it pull down after a pick up of six but he gets it inside ins the red zone is down at the 15 it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it six- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four looking for a man it's Crowder grabs it in the middle oh it's a fumble oh looks as if the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own you know this is a receiving group that practices making catches in traffic and they're used to having guys trying to rip it free he's got to do a better job of keeping five points of pressure after he makes the catch that's a costly [Applause] giveaway Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field man oh man these offenses just haven't been able to find any room to get things going David and to quote the great philosopher reys Davis this is very UNG good just nothing working for this offense Palmer they got to find something well the plays look good against the scout team during the week in practice but they have just not been able to find a rhythm against this defense today here on second and [Applause] short he's looking to throw using the quick game and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the ch kanes love the way he didn't just run to a spot he found the cushion in the zone and got himself open for the first down yeah and you're taught to find that space don't run right into a Zone Defender who's sitting there looking at the quarterback and looking at you so much creativity with routes now and being able to just have subtle moves One Way come back the other way nice job by the tight end finding that hole in the zone and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there it's hard to have success on wide receiver screen means when you're facing press man coverage because your blockers out front often times can't pick them up and that receiver gets gobbled up as soon as he catches the pass you saw it on that last play they ran it on first down now on second they keep attacking through the air got his hand and he's running in the open TouchDown Wolfpack reeled it in and just made the house call one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch and if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play [Applause] [Applause] they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they find P dir from way out covering 69 yards on the touchdown pass the kickoff team out there and ready to go from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 leaves it with the back stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense [Music] picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down out of the gun to give to the back and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chains and a great job by the offensive line if you're going to run the ball right at the middle you better control the line of scrimmage you can see the center of the Guard the tackles doing a good job getting on their guys just enough where this running back can get into space and make the big game they'll snap it from the 36 they've got a first down the run from the shotgun turns it on in Midfield he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there the Trojans moving quickly to the line the give is to Taylor and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine at the 45 y second down went to the running game on first down now here they come again after run run run now throw snagged in the middle it's Ross really good surge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at the 34 excellent throw by the quarterback found the window between the zones then delivered the ball on time and the Trojans will snap it on First and 10 the give to the back tackle is made at the 30 yd line after he picked up four it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down after the productive first down play it's second and six it's a draw not much room a pickup of two down to the 28 and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late looking for a man it's Crowder just a short pass to the tight end and he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play well that play was designed for that down in distance right you saw how he barely got enough to pick up the first really nice job by the play caller there understanding the situation and what play to dial up just on the edge of the Red Zone first and 10 from the 21 looking to move it through the [Applause] air didn't have much of a choice there but to get rid of it second couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again he's going to pass on second down almost had the completion just missed it well that's not on the quarterback I know it's not easy completing some of these out routes at the college level but that's a play the receivers got to [Applause] make they were on the move but two straight incompletions have them staring at third and 10 they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pickup on that play now a fourth down a famous Rider once said most men lead lives of quiet desperation here is a desperate move going for it on fourth down trailing by double figures touchdown Troy a great catch and run for six no quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page [Music] P unit on the field for the extra point [Applause] and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown kickoff team lining up to send this one away on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be sto at the 17 Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field after standing on the sideline and watching that long touchdown Drive they really need to put something together to give their defense a rest and that's a real thing man like youve played a lot of plays you get worn out you need a chance to go decompress on the sideline get some oxygen Palmer now it's on this offense yeah this is the definition of complimentary football cuz it's a two-prong problem you've got to score points and answer but you've also got to take your time and give your defense an opport opportunity to get their win Lewis wants the pass trying to beat the D deep he's got it downfield for a huge game touchdown Nevada and they take it in for six more points quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the timing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you've got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 that last Drive didn't take long just two plays to get it in and they finish it with a flare a 77 yd touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 guys the Troy offense returns to the field the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stop F or get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here and this game still tight you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that [Applause] pressure what a day it's been on the ground for these two guys and they just seem to get stronger as the game goes along as we take a look at the [Applause] numbers when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter to the air it's Crowder got him downfield and an explosive play has him on the move and he gets it all the way to the 48 yd Line That's What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play the TR ojans want to move quickly the give to the lone running back and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense man not much wiggle room for the ball carrier there not really sure what they can do to try to create some space I know block better how about the offensive lineman push some guy backwards and make some holes got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he's looking to throw and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming that's what I'm talking about that is how you close and when a guy's going to make a catch you make sure he doesn't make it physicality using your pads running through them and guess what not only this play does he feel it next time he tries to go over the middle or feels footsteps this will pay dividends [Applause] couldn't quite haul it in they almost had their first pick here late in the game that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks you can get the pass rush going everybody in the back end expecting throw that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth downs and the Trojans will send out the punt unit and that one will Sail Out of Bounds no chance chance for a return there Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field they'll give it on the counter and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge that's a big stop for the defense that running back has had so much success you're down in the football game you need to get the ball back to your offense you create a play like this this will get the fires going get the juices going now we got to go get a few more they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 Lewis to throw makes his connection and they don't drag him down until he gets all the way to the 46 yd line well I tell you man this guy's been putting on a show all game long we've seen his decision making we've seen his athleticism because of him they've got this huge lead in the fourth quarter so why stop throwing it just keep it going when the Going's good the offense setting up shop at the 46 first first and 10 he wants to throw and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the [Applause] ball after the misfire it's second and 10 he's looking to throw setting up the screen and it'll be a pickup of nine they're facing a third and one I love an offense that wants to stay aggressive even you late in G like this right you still try to find your Playmakers and get them the ball in space and that is exactly what this offense is doing passing game very effective on second now what about here on third looking to throw for it [Applause] going to throw it over the top of the knee almost intercepted and what a momentum swing that could have been but they still force a fourth down got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here the wolf pack will have to bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away the punt goes out of bounds and nice job to get them backed up I think they'll spot it right around the 15 so guys we'll have another look at this Troy offense going to the running game breaks the tackle danced his way through traffic pick up for four to the 19 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six scanning the field it's Crowder and he had it for a second but it just dribbled out of his hands well they're trying to hit the out route to the perimeter of the field it's a good route by the wide receiver he just drops the ball couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six they try to pop a run on the draw brought to the ground but not before getting it up for the first down well that's kind of the advantage of third and medium right is the defense you keep them guessing you could throw it you can run it that time they hand it off and they pick it up yeah and you can see the d drop back a little bit it creates a little bit of space the running back blasts through gets the first down the Trojans will line it up on First and 10 right back to the well he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he tried to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast he met him there and forced the tfl after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 now the play fi fires to the wide out makes the grab ripping off a a pretty good chunck of yardage they've got it out to the 41 with a first down this is the moment for this offense to put a drive together it doesn't matter what's happened up to the point of this game but you're trailing right now you got to put some points up on the board this is where all 11 guys need to be playing together as one he'll try to pop the draw and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that on the and they try to sneak the draw play in there and Show Pass right away get it to the running back defense not fooled in the slightest nice job getting up field getting to the running back getting them on the ground got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 to throw it's Crowder fires to the tight end he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing and catch and on the heels of that last big play now you'd love to keep the momentum going and score quick how about staying aggressive try to throw this thing into the end zone you need to get the ball back and you need to save as much time as you can the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 he's going to pass it's complete on the right side the receiver on first down was complete BR up [Applause] got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down he's looking to throw and the pass is intercepted just a short return but that would have been icing on the cake they've got it first down at the 42 nice job by this defense that might be the exclamation point fourth quarter I got a lead you bring on the nickel defense you know they're passing the football for plays just like that to make the int and almost put this one away Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field they'll have another opportunity to extend this lead after punting last time David and it's important to put that punt behind you it's it's over let it go get back to what you were doing that built this lead punt yeah and defense obviously they won a few Downs uh that last drive so we got to put them on their heels here maybe mix up a few personnel groupings and try to show them some pictures they haven't seen yet didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust takes the easy throw in the flat he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play love the play by the defense they just did a good job understanding where the running back was on that play after the catch they're able to make the tackle right away and now they've set up third down a third and long coming up here Lewis wants to pass he'll take a deep shot here he's got it down the left and he mots into the end zone touchdown Nevada and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored another outstanding job with the route great job securing the catch [Music] [Applause] [Applause] he'll try to add another to their [Applause] lead and and that extra point is a big one as they now have a thre possession 17-point lead in the fourth about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown set to kick off from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 now the Trojan offense returns to the field and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down this defense has just been all over this guy all game long Under Pressure they're finding a way to get to him and affect his rhythm of course they have an interception in this game that's why they've got a big lead here in the fourth quarter this guy has never gotten into a rhythm couldn't connect on first down now second and 10 from the 24 they'll throw again after the incompletion how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion at this point of the game in the fourth quarter it is going to be tough for this offense to get some completions here because now trailing by this much the defense is expecting pass and they're putting a whole bunch of extra DBS on the field to help them out in coverage they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here receiver looks it in it's complete love to see these third down conversions on offense in their out to their own 39 yd line wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third Downs so much in practice here's the handoff and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up tack 42 brings up second [Music] down got a little work done on first down now back to the line looking downfield it's Crowder they've got the screen set up not a whole lot of room there on that screen passes it just never developed third I don't love the play call at this juncture in the game you're down you've got to take shots the defense is not going to be blitzing so these screens probably aren't going to work and the Trojans want to pick up the tempo out of the shotgun on third down complete downfield hit the gas kid wide open thee touchdown Trojan and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call he has been surgical Precision passes using the scaffold the fine instrument rather than the blunt one the defense has had absolutely no answer for it just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this defense they'll try to attack one more on their score and the Pat will draw them one point closer so that was a six Place 75 yard drive and they cover the final 54 yds with the explosive play in the passing game for six if they're going to pull off this big rally they'll need to get this one back they line up for the onside kick Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the [Applause] field they keep it on the ground clock is their friend and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pickup before the defense put a stop to it I I know exactly what I have to do here defensively we got to get the stop so we're playing run we're selling out to run because we're thinking they're going to run the football and we got three three timeouts let's use them wisely let's use those timeouts save as much clock as we can so our offense has some time on the clock to do some damage when they get the football back sweet feet on the move and chunk plays of the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes a stop big reason why his team has the lead right now late is because of his performance running the football well over a 100 yards in this game they knew that they were going to have to really put a lot of pressure on him he'd have to shoulder the load and he has delivered for his offense all game long movement from the linebackers trying to mess with the offensive lines assignments they'll run it on first and goal and he Sprints to the end zone touchdown Nevada and you know late in the games off def sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game [Applause] away he'll try to tack on one more extra point and that extra point is a big one as they now have a three possession 17-point lead in the four [Applause] 41 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he got gets a block he found some really good Running Room on that one it just about got loose as it is good return to set up the drive to the air on first down working that left side the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious looking for a productive play on first down looking to throw it's Crowder working the middle of the field and it's completey and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch trying to get everybody set with the clock still running looking to throw on second down catch in the middle it's Taylor they didn't get a ton of yardage there but they're really effective at using the back out of the back field and they do it to get the first down here guys out of the back field now it's not just run the ball downhill anymore you got to be versatile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football and you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on you comes out throwing on first down it's complete and he's into the end zone touchdown Trojan and a nice touchdown continuing to fight continuing to play this one it's pretty much over down multiple possessions this late in the football game it would take a miracle but nice job by this offense continuing to fight push the ball down the field make plays on to attempt the try kicker is on for the extra point and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the final 41 yds covered by that touchdown strike they're definitely up against it time running out down two possessions they'll try the onside kick they were ready for the onside kick and executed perfectly and they secure the football Nevada takes over as the offense returns to the field okay you have a two-score Advantage here so while you want to be aggressive David don't hand them a cheap dang right I'm not being Reckless I I can still be aggressive but a punt is not the worst thing Jesse in this situation in the fourth qu you're right David you don't want to be Reckless so as a play caller here let's dial up some things you know your quarterback sees well in the passing game I'd expect we're going to get another dose of the running game at this point even though it's second and 11 and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense running out the clock a mere formality between them and a victory as we have victory for coming and with things in their favor on the scoreboard the quarterback's favorite play in The Playbook the old kneel down from Victory formation Victory formation is so sweet and the best part is when you're on the road and all those home fans start taking off and all those cheers all those loud noise you don't hear him anymore he's really Qui [Applause] it is true as he puts three on the board and that leag grows even bigger [Applause] tonight final four Nevada 44 trit 31 [Music]
