I didn't hit record that's what I pretty much figured welome love that I love that for everyone yeah let's go back to the and we are [Music] singing hi welcome every feel weird doing it again [Music] yes welcome to the blue review uh this is a special Wednesday Edition I am not good after that this is take two for anyone in the chat who's coming in right now I definitely did a great intro and I didn't click record so thank you Dodgers for really just ruffling up my feathers I don't know what's going on it was sort of like it was sort of like our reenactment of the eighth inning last night we just fumbled the bag yes I just there was errors every there was errors every I was I walked in at 8 2929 we had to come up second time the second time so yeah there was errors all over the place only Marcus was the one he was the only one that had no errors today yeah Marcus was on top of things um but shout out to everyone hopping in here at 8:30 as always we're going to be here 8:30 8:55 talking Dodgers um so we're g to get right into it since the first two minutes we were making airs and I forgot to click record um but before we do shout out to LAX because Los Angeles International Airport are the reason we are here at the blue review um changes are arriving daily over there reducing traffic saving guest time and if you want to learn more you can check it out at fly.com transforming LAX all right let's start with the positives guys because I know we're all flustered after that eighth inning but Yamamoto looked amazing uh Marcus Greg how are you guys feeling after seeing that you know great first four Innings and of course you saw the eight strikeouts command looked great uh Marcus we get your thoughts on yamamoto's performance yeah no it was it was everything that they wanted it to be you know they they gave him a limit of pitches he went four innings in 59 pitches so just in under the wire I mean we were watching it last night live in the studio the first four hitters he faced he struck out and that just struck him out Greg but but had them completely off balance uh unaware looking kind of silly uh you know striking out first eight eight of the first 12 hitters yeah eight of the first nine outs he recorded were all by strike out uh the curveball was filthy he was dotting the fast ball it was like he never left you know so that is really encouraging what we said last night now the big trick is how does he feel today when he shows up at the Ballpark how is he feeling is he able to kind of get a little side work in is he going to be ready for the next turn but man I don't know that you could have asked for more from that start than what we saw yesterday I couldn't I couldn't have asked for it he was absolutely fantastic it felt so good to see him on the mound again and you mentioned everything that was happening his curveball was amazing all that stuff the dotting of the fast ball all that stuff he was just so good and it felt good to see him actually strike out a bunch of guys no nobody knew what was coming he had everybody off balance and it was and even the one run that he gave up really wasn't his false it was just a hard Chopper that hit Freddy Freeman the chess and Freddy was trying to actually knock it down so it would just drop in front of him instead it shot off to the side and the Run scored I don't really put that on him he got a ground ball yeah to probably get out of that inning so he was just if it makes me feel good that now you have two starters depending on how he feels today like you mentioned if he as long as feels good goes into the next outing and still feels good you had now have two starters for sure that are top tier starters in Jack flarity and Yoshi noo Yamamoto and so like the eight strikeouts was just something that I did not expect in the slightest every single batter that came up just had no idea they were completely off bounds and but the by the way that fourth inning was eight pitches we got off the air at around 8 o00 last night before the fourth inning and he had 51 pitches and we're like oh that's probably about it because he's going 50 to 60 and they said no get back out there and he threw eight pitches and got out of the inning perfect perfect outing almost perfect outing for Yoshi noi Yamamoto yeah no it was great I mean it it honestly was was uh it was it was refreshing to see him come back to see him pitch so well uh you catching the the radio broadcast on the way home they were talking about the fact that you know you thought maybe he would sort of be a little tentative coming back that that he would maybe try to be very careful with hitters that was not the case he was aggressive from the very first pitch of the game going after guys uh getting chases getting swings and misses uh the fact that he had the eight strikeouts in four Innings um look his his season high was nine strikeouts that was in a six inning ball game so um by the way this is I'm like I'm looking at his game logs this is the second time that he has tied up the Cubs because he did it back in early April uh where he went five innings he struck out eight uh and gave up you know gave up three hits no runs so for whatever reason he seems to know how to pitch to this Cubs lineup uh the problem was not with with Yoshi noou Yamamoto yesterday the problem came elsewhere namely that suddenly in the eighth inning I don't know what happened but the Dodgers decided to take Skillets instead of gloves out to the field and just could not catch could not throw it was it was uh a disaster class for for them defensively you know I sit we sit here and talk about and I know we have a bunch of times about how good they've made this defense and how great this defense have there's a couple little problems you know like Max Muny at third can be an issue sometimes and thosar Hernandez is not the greatest left fielder but he's act but he's a decent enough left fielder he's not a bad one by any means and everybody else is basically a gold glove uh defenseman and then that happened in the eighth inning it was just quick sand over and over again three errors in one inning that's just not something this team does it was was Jaz meat a terrible defensive performance and like yeah Evan Phillips didn't like help him out that much he was still giving up hits but he was still getting ground balls that should have been able to get outs and he should have been able to get out of it it's that was just a a mess all the way around and hopefully that's not a sign of things to come that was just a one-time thing yeah um it kind of it hurts a little bit in the standing because of both the Padres and the Diamondbacks won I'm not too worried about that um but it's still that's not something that as long as it this is a onetime thing it's like okay I can live with it yeah and I'm sort of just chalking it up is they just had a bad inning uh you know it it it hurts because you know here where they went into the inning with a three to one lead it looked like they were hopefully going to close out a win especially on a night when look they they faced a really good pitcher in imanaga they were able to scratch out three runs two home runs by Tommy Edmond like who would have th it uh and then one from Max M so to have it get away like that was was heartbreaking but I'm really just going to look at the sort of the body of work from this team defensively it has been very good for the majority of the year so I'm gonna say that this was sort of just a a oneoff now though obviously they got to turn their attention to tonight try to avoid the sweep because you know th's the off day they travel to Atlanta and then a really really big four game series with the Braves so you know I'm not panicking like you said disappointing because the two teams behind them each one still a decent cushion four and a half games over the Padre's five games over the diamond backs so no reason yet for panic just just disappointment I think is the way to describe it yes very much so and also it's I mean I didn't even I thought they still had a chance to win the game and it wasn't even despite the errors and everything that I can't I don't have my phone on me right now to look at it up but the the the center fielder for the Cubs P Pro Armstrong my goodness that guy is absolutely insane Harvard wake yeah Harvard Lake local kid went to Har West Lake his parents um were in the show Heroes if You' ever watched that show I'm pretty sure his mom was in Little Big League like you know he has a pretty you know prolific family and but that guy my God every single time a ball was anywhere within 20 feet of him 50 feet with of him he was running it down stealing home runs he stole that home run from Max m i I got a little bit of help from that stupid guy in the Outfield with his hat but either way like multiple times sh Otani some big hits Kik had a big hit that was in the Gap into right center field and this dude ran it down in Ridiculous Ways sometimes he's just grabbing it off the ground he's stealing home runs it was so incredibly impressive if you remember earlier in the season Marcus niik Herer did a ton of St stuff at second base over and over again stealing runs stealing hits now this guy does it it was insane yeah no I I do remember that first couple weeks of the season I think we had the conversation on this show that you know if you see a gold glove highlight for somebody at the end of the year when they hand out the awards like it feels like you know at least 50% of the highlights were going to be against the Dodgers because everybody was flashing the leather uh those first few weeks of the Season that was even the Nationals even the Nationals um yeah that was as impressive a singular defensive performance as I can remember in a while I mean you know hat hats off to to him I don't know maybe it was you know being able to see the Home Folks maybe uh you know EA some of the old spots that that he used to go to in high school I have no idea what it was but uh Pete Crow Armstrong was amazing defensively last night yeah I it was something that I've never seen a I don't want to say never but it was the mo one of the most impressive outings for a center fielder or a defenseman I've seen in quite quite some time P at PCA he was insane I just that was the only thing like I would I went to bed after the after the ninth inning I said I'm not even mad he stole the game who the f is this guy because I just I don't know who you are apparently he was supposed to be the he he was a rookie of the year candidate at the beginning of the Season well I understand I understand why you play defense like that if you can hit a little bit you got a shot my goodness so I think feel too bad I don't know yeah um like like I said I think I just think disappointment was sort of the word of the night you know because you had that right you had uh those balls that are in the Gap that you know look most Knights at least one of them those Falls right one of them falls through yeah uh one of those gets over the fence like you know and and if that happens that changes the Outlook of the game right maybe the Dodgers have a four five run lead going into that eighth inning uh you know M see if that ball gets out then it's a one run game um you know granted it's two outs but it's one run game and you you still have a situation where one swing of the bat can tie you up and maybe get you to extras um you know hey look over the course of 162 these things sort of out right like there were I'm sure there were plenty of games where the Dodgers probably got away with one uh last night was not one of those no no it wasn't but you know like yes you you chalk it up to that's why I just I wasn't that upset like it was like all right too bad but I I still thought there was so much good stuff and we talked about it on the air yesterday during the uh destination for LA Sports Yamamoto looked really really good Edmond getting those two home runs actually it gives you hope that he's I mean he he's been great so far for the doers but the fact is now he's showing a little bit of power that's something that goes forward makes you feel pretty good I don't know I'm feeling I'm feeling good about about it Parker I this that I know we lost the season series and we lost this series but I don't feel bad yeah and I think you can also on top of yamamoto's performance the bullpen actually made me feel good as well I mean not Phillips well you can look at a good inning from brazer as a positive sign as well as trining came in and I mean he did what he does you know he I think he walked a guy but he still ended up getting out of the inning I think that's all that we're expecting right now is just throwing some dudes towards the end of the season who can just put in one inning two innings so that when you get to the playoffs guys like copc uh I mean but the Phillips I guess is the real discussion here so where is that confidence level in Phillips you know as we head towards this playoff that back end of the bullpen I mean are you confident seeing Bruce Dar return like his we haven't talked about him yet today um what' you see from him Marcus uh just where you at on that back end of the of the ballpen there for the most part I'm still fine um obviously Phillips gives up the the runs last night although look they were all unearned um you know he had he had one walk gave up a couple of hits so I mean it wasn't a clean inning for him but really I think it's more about the defense just sort of letting him down so I'm generally fine there uh it was nice to see graterol get back in I guess here's it was nice to see graterol get through an inning and you know not us and us not have a an injury scare you know when it was all over so that was a positive um you know had a little bit of traffic but got out of it without giving up a run so that's you know just kind of working him back in as a positive we talked about this last night right the back end of that Bullpen we're pretty fine with whatever order that Dave Roberts decides to use of in Philips copc you know Tran Hudson vessia those guys are pretty much locked in it's finding those extra couple of arms you still want that long relief arm whether it's roesy whether they move knack to the bullpen um you know if if whatever gonin can come back I mean that was you and I talked about last night Greg we didn't anticipate this suddenly Tony gonlin possibly back on the radar that's that's really good news for this team look if you can bring Tony gonin back because he is a guy that can go multiple multiple Innings he he's still he you can stretch him out to a starter but he can also go be somebody that you wouldn't start him in the postseason but to have somebody like him that can go multiple Innings and you can feel pretty good about it because when Tony gin's on he is pretty solid he was really really good before he got injured so this is if you can have him be one of your long relievers Landon Knack be one of your long relievers you don't have to worry about Justin reesi who kind of is like a fire starter a little bit when he comes in you don't know what you're gonna get he gets out of innings but he also gives up a lot of hits to go back to Phillips for just a second I feel I still feel really good about Evan Phillips I am not down on him as like some people I know Travis is going to take that and be like look look you see this is what I'm talking about Evan Phillips I hate the fact that he gave up a walk I hate the fact to give up two hits and all in the same inning that to me is too much but I still have a lot of trust in him whether he is the eighth inning guy maybe not but he's gonna you can put him in good situations where he's that fireman role maybe in the sixth inning when you get that two three four or three four five coming up and you want Evan Phillips out there in the sixth inning I would feel pretty good about that um as long as copc is in the back of the bullpen he's at the closer role especially in the postseason I'm good with that too I but but when it comes to some of these long relievers yeah gon would be great to have because he was great last night two innings uh two hits no walks or no was it two and two strikeouts no Ro no walks no earned runs no runs at all I think that was a strong strong outing for him and and bodess well for them absolutely does um and this is the thing like right now it's about getting this pitching staff right and ready and healthy for the postseason um it's keeping the first off it's keeping the the the hitters and the fielders healthy right like um you know thank goodness the Tay Oscar is going to be okay I know the idea is that he's gonna be back in the lineup tonight right he was uh it was available to pinch hit yesterday if they needed him to he should be good enough to be back in the lineup so um I know you got to play them but is if we could you know also bubble wrap them between it bats or something like I don't know I make sure everybody stays healthy uh you know it's just it's just getting the arms set up for the postseason so having Yamamoto go out and pitch and look great was awesome you can stretch him out hopefully next time around so he's uh he's at 75 pitches the news on glass now has been positive so hopefully he's able to make you know at least one more start before the end of the regular season um the fact that Kershaw is throwing you know that's a positive I I don't know exactly what the timeline is going to be for him I know it's a very small window for him to get back but that he's throwing is a positive sign you know we'll keep an eye on on Gavin Stone and see what what his availability might be I know again that's another small window but uh for all the Doom and Gloom that has been around this pitching staff and the injuries there are rays of light poking through this thing right now there very much are rays of light and with when you're talking about glass now he is going to throw a Sim game on Friday and if it looks good he's going to be in back in the rotation next week so then that means that you're going to have your top three guys that we've talked about so many times that being so important that if you have glass now Yamamoto and flare all ready to go in the postseason you're feeling really really good about every single one of those guys can give you length every single one of those guys can go six to eight Innings uh the fact is that Jack flarity went seven Innings the other day and looked really good doing it and it was no they gave up no runs if Yamamoto looks anything close to what he looked like this but in a longer stretched out period where he's going where he actually has no pitch limit at all that means that bodess very well for the postseason and if glas now he can get if he's back next week right so that would be you're talking about like the teens he can get one he can probably get two starts in before the postseason if he looks good in those I you got to feel good about glas now I me I I think that the pitching staff itself looks really really good then it just depends on who that fourth starter if you need it would be and you know that they're all fighting for that spot right now and guys like Bobby Miller and walk berer and even Clayton Kershaw are not doing well in that situation Landon Knack seems like the guy at this point could you imagine getting a seven inning start from someone in the playoffs no I don't know it that like my my heart fluttered just thinking about the idea of somebody giving the Dodgers a seven inning start give me six at least six don't go one and twoth thirds that's all I'm asking like get through I will take six innings in the I'm like going back and looking at at the dis I mean look the fact that Lance Lynn Lance Lynn was the long guy at two and two3 innings that was the long start they got in the playoffs there was no reason he should have been in for two and two-thirds Innings also all he did was give up home runs I think it was four home runs in like six at bats yeah it was it was brutal that one was absolutely brutal and if you go back the year before that you had to there was there was uh we would have openers and we there haven't had an actual starter I feel like go longer than five innings since maybe the 2020 season I don't know that for sure I have to go back and look at like every single playoff match but I feel like it hasn't been we haven't actually had a long starter for four years it's been it's been a minute yeah I'm uh uh let's see I I'm I'm just trying I'm trying to I'm sitting here filibustering just trying to work backwards and look at some of these box scores as we do this uh I mean uh they got five out of Tyler Anderson in that that final game against the Padres in 2022 great there we go 2022 was the last time someone went five went five you're talking about two years since somebody went five innings in the playoff game that's that's ridiculous yes gross gross is the exact right word absolutely gross so and but now then you have you have guys now that you're now expecting to do that to go five to go six and if they do that everything feels really good um I don't know I think is it Bobby Miller on the mound tonight Bob Bruin Flores Bobby on the mound tonight is huge we can't get swept I mean look if they get swept it sucks yeah I don't know how you feel about it but it sucks but it's not the end of the world either way Bobby has to just show that he's can have another start after this one because he was bad he was bad in his last outing that is the thing I'm looking for I just need some consistency some good consistency out of Bobby Miller we've gotten him consistently bad um we need some consistency on the positive side I just need to see that his secondary pitches have some command um I need to see that he can he can you know have a clean inning uh and that when he does get into traffic that he can sort of work around it and not have a a Snowball Effect um you know obviously we want them to win every night but I just need to see something from Bobby Miller that says like you said that that he is worthy of another start down the stretch um you know we had a couple of those from ber before he had his blow up the other night um we we need we need to see Signs of Life from Bobby Miller that's all I'm looking for yeah I I just want to see something out of him because it can't look anything like he did the other night because the other part at least you have an off day tomorrow right I think is it a four game set or three game set it's a four game it's a wraparound so it goes through Monday but it is an off day tomorrow yeah what is the point of these wraparounds but that's a whole that's a whole another conversation but yeah so you get an off day so you can kind of use your bull a little bit more than you have to because you have that off day tomorrow but still you don't want to I I need to see length out of Bobby Miller otherwise that's that's got to be it for him especially with glaz now coming back if he's bad tonight back to Triple A on the ilil whatever it happens to be but that if he's bad tonight I'm we're done with Bobby Miller for the rest of the year and I think that's upsetting hopefully he can have a good outing and then build upon that to get closer to a playoff spot which I don't even that probably doesn't make it anyway at this point yeah I just I don't see any way you can trust him in a playoff setting um you know it is right now about trying to finish the rest of the season see if he could stay at the big league level for the remainder of the season and you know start working on next year I mean I think that's sort of the thing I think for for Bobby Miller he is pitching for 2025 and Beyond right now yeah I see in the chat by the way before we get out of here because we don't have much time uh Parker but uh someone is asking about will oh where is it Roy Strada does glas now go to OKC soon no it seems like he's not going to OKC at all he's going to have a SIM game on Friday and then he's gonna be back in the rotation next week yeah they they they trust their you know super 700 million type dollar players to not have to go to OKC and they can ramp him up on the actual ml real live hitters and also it's so so short amount of time he has to pitch against Major League hitters exactly um so we hope the best for glasow in his potential return soon and it was good to see Yamamoto getting back um the rotation looking healthy as we near the playoffs and that is something that we've been clamoring All Season that's what we need uh so thank you everyone for being in the chat we appreciate all the active um questions and everything we we'll be sure to keep on putting them on the screen and reacting to them uh every day at 8:30 uh so thank you everyone and thank you Greg Marcus on behalf of LAX and everyone here at
