Today at, for a federal judge right here in Atlanta has ordered former President Donald Trump to temporarily stop playing a song written by Isaac Hayes at his rallies. That's right. So the late singer's family and a state, they sued the former president and his campaign for using the song. Hold on, I'm coming, stating that the song's use was illegal. 11 lives Kris Belger joining us in downtown Atlanta, Karis. We know you're following the story for us. You were in court. What exactly happened there today, an attorney representing Isaac Hayes the third, the family of Isaac Hayes and also the late singer, state said that they've been trying to prevent the former president from using this song for years. However, the attorney representing former president Trump and his campaign said it's not quite clear if the family and the state have the right to stop the former president from using the song as wrote the song. Hold on. I'm coming in 1966 with Dave Porter and the song has been played by former president Trump at his rallies repeatedly, Hayes son, Isaac Hayes the third took to X and posted that he and his family would be suing Trump for more than 100 counts of copyright infringement for using the song. The initial complaint asked for the former president to stop using song at political events and also remove any videos on his website where the song can be heard playing in the background. Judge Thrasher ruled that at least in the interim, Trump must stop playing the song but did not require the campaign to remove the videos on the website. Hayes's son said today's decision was a victory for artists who want to protect their creative property. A lot of artists are not often in this position to stand up for their copyrights because publishing companies typically own the rights to the music. But I always want to make sure that we are able to protect my father's legacy. Now, one of the things that came up again, ownership of the song at one point, the attorney representing former president, Trump said it was not clear that Hayes family actually did on the song, the attorney for Isaac Hayes the third and Isaac Hayes, the state said that once this case moves forward, they will be able to prove that. In fact, they do have the rights the song and that ownership reverted to them some years ago. And Kris, there's another point we want to ask you about in court, the attorney for the Trump campaign mentioned the reason for this legal action was politically motivated. Did the family of their attorney address this at all. Yes. Both of them address this. They said that their motivation is not political. It's more about character. In fact, as the case, the third said that his father had many daughters and he did not agree with the character of former president Trump. And he said his father would not have been ok with that song being affiliated with someone who had been accused of any sort of sex crime for us. Thank you so much.
