Badgers quarterback Tyler Van Dyke talks Wisconsin debut, offensive woes

what's going on how you doing to good good thanks yeah I mean Western Michigan did a good job um you know we were studying losing a tech film um they didn't show any of what they did there so they were trying to keep everything in front of them playing a lot of cover three not letting us take and with deep shots really so um you know they make try to make us make a mistake and um you know that's football so you I mean we we had long drivs only had three drives in the first half um you know we like to punch the other two in the end zone that would helped a lot but um we just got to do a better job finishing in The Bed Zone we talked a little bit about here watching thatch fil obviously they might come out a little bit of different you into a game with like the unpreparedness how do you guys try to handle the in game and what adjustments are you guys try to make yeah I mean uh we got the iPad now so as soon as they we start saw the first drive um saw they're doing a lot of one High cover three deal a little bit of man um and they've shown a lot of quarters and bracket um so you know just trying to find the right plays that you know fit uh those certain defenses and um you know we did a better job adjusting for how did that was the communications the iPad all that stuff how' that kind of work out yeah the communication was good um you know every driver would sit the bench and watch watch the drive and um you know critique orated to critique and um overall was good you know as a quarterback obviously the likes more of those deep shots people talked about maybe later on wanting some of those deep shots when you maybe just have to take what the def is it a little maybe you know not what you expect or how do you kind of compartmentalize that feel of taking with the defense giv you versus trying to attemp some of those deep yeah and uh that's the whole thing about playing quarterback get smart with the football and might have try to force a couple in there uh that shouldn't have thrown and just have to make better decisions especially in the red zone so um you know just got to take what they give us and uh you know take the medicine sometimes and you know not you know Force the ball into certain situations in a game like that is a little more you know methodical you're taking what the defense gives you how is it so beneficial to have a couple veteran backs like chz like tawi that can kind of handle that load and and how do you feel like they push the offense as well yeah I mean I think it all started with offensive line they did a great job all night um you know making uh good holes for tawi chz Kate and um you know those guys did a great job running the ball the first guy was never the first guy to tackle them um take a lot of guys to tackle him so um yeah did they did a great job and it started with thean and um you know cared us all on that you saw a bit of your comfortability running the football you know on Keepers your strr what did you kind of see from that allowed yeah we had a couple draws couple uh run reads that you know had a pull on few and I would like to run a little bit better than just kind of just go not dance around a little bit and um just kind of have to go and um you know that's going to be the case that I have to pull the ball um sometimes and uh we like to run a little bit better than I did tonight but it was a good start helmet first yeah I remember that yeah um yeah I mean I didn't feel anything from that really but um yeah lot of positives and negatives from tonight uh what are you hoping to build on uh into next week and the rest of the season yeah we learned how to you know handle adversity right away in the first game obviously down uh going into the fourth quarter and um you I thought we did a great great job you know keeping good energy going into the fourth quarter and um you know scoring 15 points um consecutive so um you know just have to have a better start um obviously we had three drives in the first half and um you know wish we had a little bit more of that more drives so obious we can score more points but um yeah I mean I thought we did a good job finishing and uh you're going to have some adversity sometimes um and yeah we got to be better next week though for sure it was also balance pretty balanced both uh passing and running um is that kind of like the offense you like to run or um how how does it kind of play into yeah I mean I thought we were uh we were balanced for sure um obviously we' like to be better in the past game I thought missed a couple uh shots for sure um in the wrong game I think was solid so we'd like to have a little bit more in the in the in the pass game um and we did tonight
