thousands are still without power this morning after high winds and heavy rains swept in and pounded much of the South Coast Emily ltin is at the to Wason fery terminal this morning uh joining us with a little bit more Emily how are the conditions there definitely a little better than yesterday Sonia Jason good morning um yeah late last night uh and early into the evening we saw some sailings canceled or delayed because the storm did materialize uh but this morning it's a tad Windy The Rains East off but nothing too bad there no headaches so far for BC fairies passengers so uh we're keeping a close eye on that but because of that storm there are thousands this morning with out power so at the peak of the storm BC Hydro says about 50,000 customers lost power the hardest hit areas are the gulf Islands South Vancouver Island Coquitlam abbottford and Maple Ridge in North Vancouver crews are also working on down lines uh down trees and power lines so work is underway to restore power um there's still around 28,000 customers uh in the dark that's down from about 35 an hour ago uh so the weather yesterday also made for a rough ride for some BC faery passengers sailing through the southern Gulf Islands Tuesday evening now let's go from rain to snow well now uh it's not out of the norm this time of year some parts of the South Coast saw first snowfall of the Season Cypress mountains saw a steady amount fall throughout the day but it wasn't just on the mountains at comok Valley saw some accumulation and Eno's rain became wet snow late Tuesday evening the cooler air combined with this moisture is resulting in some snowfall um particularly over sort of higher elevations but in areas where we've seen some heavy rain things have cooled off enough that there are some wet flakes of snow mixed in with that rain particularly part for parts of the east side of Vancouver Island even down to some lower elevations all right Emily how about drivers heading east do they need to be worried about the weather as well uh they do so be careful out there because of the snow so if you're heading on the Cocola the connector or Allison pass there was some trouble there conditions are expected to ease as we get into the morning but just a quick look here on drve BC there's a reported uh incident on the Cocola so drivers might need to hang tight uh Northbound from Hope to Merit and we should expect an update from uh Drive BC later this morning Jason Sonia all right Emily Lattin joining us this morning thanks Emily
