we're going to talk a lot about this Ohio State team we're going to talk a lot about what we saw and liked and didn't like about their 40 plus win 40 plus Point win against akan we're gonna not like that akan got on the board first scoring as many points in the first quarter as Clemson managed to score against Georgia in the entire damn game we're not going to like that they doubled up the amount of points that Clemson scored over the course of the entire damn game and we're going to nitpick and we're going to pick apart because we know that this program has spent quite a lot of money to put together this roster to keep this roster that 10 of the 11 guys on that defense are going to be eligible for the NFL draft and might get drafted the only guy on that starting 11 who might not get drafted is Caleb DS and that's because he's a true sophomore and yet the most talented person on that entire defense we are going to take a look at will Howard and pick him part even though I thought that dude played within the offense was doing everything you asked him to do 17 to 28 228 three TDS no picks we're going to look at the Run game and expect more because it felt like trayon Henderson finally broke away for like a 29 yard run in the second half when the game is already out of reach quinan jins you know was not the guy that we thought he would be out the out the gate but still pretty good 13 for 55 the thing that I don't think anybody gets to pick a fight about the thing that I wish people would recognize from the jump is that a true freshman started at wide receiver at have put Jackson Smith in jiga Garrett Wilson Chris o lave Marvin Harrison Jr into the NFL we could talk about Jameson Williams if we wanted to we could talk about what Carnell Tate meant coming out of IMG we could talk about what Brandon Enis is capable of doing we could talk about how milin Graham can take the top off of any defense that you want to throw in front of him and yet the dude that started as a true freshman at Ohio State where's number four and he met the hype six catches 92 yards two TDS ridiculous had 145 the first completion that will Howard threw as a Ohio State quarterback was to Jeremiah Smith on Third and 10 and it was a button hook dude came back made a play 11 yards on the keeper I don't know what else I'm going to need to keep saying about this except to say when I talk about Jeremiah Smith it is with people that are in Columbus in my ear going we have never seen anything like this he does something every single practice that goes wait no he didn't how and over the top of guys like Denzel Burke who had an interception today guys like Caleb Downs guys like leam Ransom guys like Jordan Hancock guys like David igon uh eison my goodness my bad davidon I'm going to keep banging this because you got to deal with Jeremiah Smith JJ to his peoples for the next three damn years and maybe you will learn to bracket protect maybe you'll learn to throw a safety over the top wherever he is and maybe you'll just identify four all over the field but there is a reason why Ryan there's a reason why Ryan day was buckling at the knees at the signing day on the knowledge that they had finally got that dude to come to Ohio State in an age where people are paying $20 million for a roster and you got Nick Sabin cussing about it on air you have this guy who might well and truly be one of the great college football players of all time if he lives up to to the hype that we think it is there for him it's within reach it's really the thing about playing wide receivers is a dependent position meaning you got to have a quarterback that's almost as good as you are to reach your full potential this is how Devonte Smith won the Heisman it was M Jones was almost as good as he was but it was really difficult for us to watch Devonte Smith and think who else would you have to put at quarterback for that dude not to be great and I kept going Jaylen W's the best wide receiver on that team and Jaylen W had gotten hurt and then Jaylen w got well enough just in time to play and you got to see what that man meant to to Alabama and they got a bunch of those dudes at Ohio State that's the Run they're on right now but the pressure is so immense it's so immense that we're going to nitpick a game that was 45 to6 with seven minutes left to play because akan wasn't any good last year and they're not supposed to be any good this year and the measuring stick is not akan the measuring stick is Georgia that's who you're playing against and you won't actually get to play against them until the playoffs Penn State looked all right today against the West Virginia team that just couldn't figure out how to take care of the football let alone get into the end zone Michigan we'll see about a little bit later on tonight as this segment is getting done before that game and Oregon is going to play at Idaho beat the hell out of them and we'll see what Oregon is about a little bit later on because they don't play Nobody until they get into Big 10 play but I got to tell you man I'm having a lot of fun watching Ohio State play football just as I'm having a lot of fun watching Georgia play football hell I had a lot of fun watching Oklahoma State play football against South Dakota state today and while nothing has been competitive so far this season outside of Florida state Georgia Tech Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt I'm I mean I'm just I'm living for these moments when we finally get to see the good teams play the good teams even in their conferences right like I am salivating over Tennessee Oklahoma because Tennessee look real good and Oklahoma got a hole the right tackle that we got to get fixed quick fast in a hurry otherwise we we we we might we might be in a fight for that one but in as far as what I've seen so far from Jeremiah Smith and JJ the subject of this segment I'm going what else do you need to see from him you know like would you want to see a 300 yard receiving performance sure who wouldn't I mean we saw one of those from Jackson Smith and jiga you know what I'm saying didn't really ever get to see one of them from Marvin Harrison Jr but we all knew that that was the best wide receiver in the sport last year do you need him to be Romo dunie yeah all right cool he'll get there that's kind of the point though any of those dudes this far ahead is true freshman now imagine that this is not the ceiling imagine this is the floor and that would be the thing that I lean into he is only only just getting started as a college football player he's played one damn game and even in that one damn game six for 92 and two TDS to lead all Buckeyes in receiving he had more receiving yards than Quin Shan jins had running uh uh rush yards than trayon Henderson had rush yards sooner or later the rest of the world's gonna catch up because he plays on television now like he he's not he's not an urban legend he's not a myth he's not a thing that just gets talked about he's gonna be a thing you get to see with your own two eyes and that is why I love talking about this sport because when that comes and you get to hear that and you see that moment everything else Fades away and you get to go oh we understand JJ Smith is him only way this gets better is I'm going remind you 2025 Ohio State plays Texas which means Arch Manning in Texas versus JJ Smith in Ohio I am here for that my God it's going to be so much fun yeah it's going to be so much fun
