DISGUSTING! VMAs RIGGED?! Katy Perry Gets SHADED!? How Iconic MTV Award Show Became TRASH!

am I just an old man yelling at the cloud or have the VMAs become complete [Applause] trash welcome to popcorn Planet I am Andy signor that's been the talk around town are the VMAs relevant what is this are they rigged it sure seems like it I got my man Lewis Lea here to talk about it with me today on today's live because also it's just slow news out there and I I I just I wanted to address this this clip right here to me sums up to be amazing very bizarre sort of way because I got a lot of opinions and the biggest ones are about the rigged everything else but Katy Perry was given the like uh video Vanguard award is what they call it when it's actually supposed to be called the Michael Jackson video Vanguard award but they're too afraid to say his name because you know they're cowards but now it's just the video Vanguard award but she got the Michael Jackson video Vanguard award and there was a lot of backlash over whether she should uh Eminem fans were Furious because Eminem has yet to win this award and he was there with his new album that's actually better his song's good and he opened it with a sort of iconic Slim Shady reference which made sense and he's never won the video Vanguard award before the Michael Jackson one and uh several others Gaga and others I no I think Gaga there were two Awards they gave her this video Vanguard award which was like was it worthy debatable when Eminem was there on top of that they gave her this fake award for iconic moment because they wanted to give her more and I guess sweet talk her for coming so they rigged in our my opinion twoo they created this moment where Katy Perry's performance of Roar at the VMA is was what one the fans voted as the iconic moment nonsense Lady Gaga fans all the other fans of big artists out there were all like this is complete crap uh and it made no sense but it did make sense because Katy Perry's promoting an album and that's where this is all interesting Katy Perry's album has been bombing she has uh you know nobody's liking it did she release the worst Comeback song of all time people have been shading on Katy Perry woman world the whole return of her uh for a long while and she desperately needed a comeback leis desperately so what did she do she showed up to the VMAs right as her album's about to launch and did a big showpiece uh song Greatest Hits medley with a couple of her new songs uh and look she's got some hit songs I'm not here to Do complete Katy Perry shade you know over the years she's a respectful icon herself she is you can deny that all you want but she's had a lot of catchy popular songs that I even like Roar firework C girls like you know she's had some hits and uh you can't deny that from her and maybe she did deserve a video Vanguard award eventually but not when Eminem's there come on Eminem's done far better with his videos and uh deserved it but I I want don't to play this clip because this sort of summed up to me my feeling of the whole MTV VM ma which has just become this disgusting debaucherous weird I've have no idea who these artists are I I guess the younger audience does to their credit but they're always just trying to throw away throw in these new things and my God Lewis the music just sounds awful it just sounds awful now some of them are good this Teddy swims guy was fun there were a few acts that weren't like awful awful but more often than not it's just all the same sounding stuff but this is where I really took Umbridge Megan the stallion everybody else to to get attention these days leis all you got to do is turn around and shake them she cheeks just just Flex them cheeks LS and that's all the audience cares anymore back in the day Elvis shaked his hips and people lost their mind I can't imagine if we transported the fans who were mad at Elvis shaking his hips what they would do if they saw the VMAs this year and I just I think it's gross like I think it's gross that this award show that's aimed at this young audience this is what Katy Perry needed to do she's so desperate to win to put it all she did this album which you know be careful it's they're wearing clothes but it's just like what am I watching and now they're literally ising on live on stage Louis Bread Eagle just oh but let's now let's shake some cheeks let's stare as we shake the cheeks there we go like what am I what is this this is the young audience of Tik Tok what they get when you when you parents if you watch your kids this is what they're doing oh but we didn't go for we didn't go close enough Louis we didn't go close enough oh she she likes it get it get it she get it look look at cut to Orlando Bloom is [Applause] like this thing just a mess this thing's a mess it's disgusting to me I don't get it I I did love this this moment of while his wife's up there with this chick Orlando Bloom just like nice look at this uh what what he and then he realizes on camera what do you think about all this is this is this too much for you are you just are we all desensitized to it by now that every artist in the world can go up there shake their cheeks and that's now art and music uh or do you see where I'm coming from just like this constant barrage of the same sounding autotuned crappy blah blah you know music is is just really not as good as music used to be back in the way or are we all grandma Simpson yelling at the cloud what do you think is got going on here I think this is art and I think you're just jealous not just kidding listen uh it's moving the goalpost it gets worse and worse every year uh back in the day it was like oh look at Boy George when this all started right Boy George dresses up kind of wears makeup oh my is that weird and then it just keeps moving and going forward and we're here now with that ridiculous performance on stage that you just showed um and stuff and I think you know in another 20 years they'll be performing colonoscopy on on stage and that will be the new thing and we're just going to have to get used to it man it's going to be a music video like that I didn't think of what the next thing is but it's going to be Katy Perry up there getting a colonoscopy you're absolutely right the webcam in there we we already have seen so much of her we might as well start getting inside the full view yeah and uh you know it is what it is and it's very materialistic and it has nothing to do with the music there are there are good there's good music out there there's good artist we just don't get UC to them that's that's the deal how long has Katy Perry been around and it's like you're telling me no one else makes music there's a lot of people and their garages right now making really good music they just don't have the hookup or the name recognition ultimately we need to look at if we don't like this we need to look at ourselves as consumers and stop buying it but they won't do it you know we're not the demo obviously and we're not all in control of it but the reason the labels are doing this is because it sells see how we're talking about this now as soon as this show is done I'm going to look this up well but beyond that Taylor Swift won again became the most decorated solo artist in VMA history and it was just like like I'm a Swifty don't get me wrong but I can still criticize her because she no one's above criticism and it's like she's won like the past three years four or three like four or five years it's always been Taylor Swift's music video as the view video of the year and uh I just think that's a crap I think it's absolute crap that Taylor Swift's like the only big artist left who seemingly can even afford to make big bunch of music videos cuz Lewis the whole art form is sort of dead who what band can really afford to do it the right way and do the promotion like it used to there is no MTV it's just YouTube uh and uh if we just keep giving it to the same most popular artist year after year so she shows up why are we even doing this like why are you calling an award show what what is this like Beyond just the grossness the fact that I do believe this is all rigged because it's a popularity content or they just give you the award because they need someone to show up and Katy Perry's like I'll give you a 10-minute best of crazy tour to force but I need an award to show up you know like it's all a negotiation with these shows obviously it's always been that way but at least back in the day we had real artists showing up to these shows I remember it was like 95 or something it was like Green Day and like Jay-Z and RM and like you know they would have like just it was a ran the gamut of like really strong AXS and you could get rock and rap you know pop and all of it there and uh nowadays it's just it's just so I I I granted I'm I'm young I'm old I'm not the young audience that they're playing for they're going for a lot of Tik Tock artists and weird uh K-pop bands and stuff that just all sounds the same to me I guess I will show my age there but I don't know none of it this show used to be iconic that was what the whole thing was it was the 40th anniversary of iconic moments of Michael Jackson right and Britney Spears and Madonna Like A vir all these moments that were like iconic the MTV Movie Awards or video awards was always like that just shocking and crazy big Productions and awesome and we've gotten to a point now where in order to get people's attention you got to have a colonoscopy live on stage for to get everyone's attention and I think it's disgusting I think it's just become so irrelevant useless trash the fact that Taylor Swift is GNA win every year anytime Taylor Swift puts an award it's almost like they have to give her the award or else and uh I like Taylor but my God Taylor you got to start spreading the joy you can't just keep gaming the Billboard charts so your album's number one forever don't otherwise go ahead what you said spread her Joy please don't give her any ideas Spread spread the joy is what I said spread the don't I'm not Elon Musk I misspoke yeah thank you spread the joy let other people have a number one album and like let people grow and don't you're big enough like how big do you need to go you're the biggest person in the world like there's a per certain point where I do think she's going to get backlashed if she doesn't like take a break and let others have a shot and then come back when we miss you a bit more sure you got to I like you but it's there's so much is too much you know what I'm saying Lewis and uh that's my prise she's keeping winning that video fortnite that video sucked now granted there's not a lot of great videos these days but it's not about the best video it's about a popularity contest and and making sure the most popular artist comes back to MTV because they're desperate and I guess that's the issue is that is that fair because it's a they're trying to get ratings that's the whole point of the show uh or do you think that's part of the reason they've lost The credibility because it's not it's never really been about the music but now it's even less about the music what do you think final thoughts on that how do you have an award show without Taylor Swift though that's kind of puts the the event um creators in a in a you know in a tough position is Taylor Swift being greedy I I don't know uh she does I mean does she employ people those people need to get paid uh does she have a small window in the music industry like where like she's going to get aged out unfortunately or she's just a fad she doesn't even know that she could be gone tomorrow as far as popularity is uh concerned so she's trying to take advantage of it uh and stuff but she does have enough money I think and you know should it be called out yeah but people need to call it out with the way they purchase stuff the way what they buy what they consume and if they're sick of Taylor Swift just don't buy it uh but they are buying it and you can't H again you can't have a an event like this without Taylor Swift it' be ridiculous it's true you can't you can't hate Taylor Swift for still selling copies like people are buying them it's it's it's a valid point I I I'm not mad at her but I just wish she'd be like she's doing manipulative stuff like re-releasing albums with extra bonus vinyl and then that keeps her album up is what I'm trying to say like you get your bag smart ping the sales but she's padding the sales and use she's she's tricking the Billboard charts to keep her album there longer and longer because she keeps releasing 100 versions of vinyls to make her fans by the vinyl over and over again and and look they're buying it so she's making mints of money but at a certain point it's like you don't have enough like can you let some other people try and then come back and do your 10 versions of the next album in like a year it's just it's a lot um the one one quick thing to add there was a lot of shading apparently of everyone's like this is uh Taylor Swift's producer Jack antinoff apparently he put on earplugs during Katy Perry's performance and a lot of people were trying to say oh he hates her but no I don't believe this shade I wanted to show this here is the uh the clip um there there's a lot of uh I guess that's just Taylor dancing but um he put airpods in is what the the rumor was but a lot of people have been adding the context of yes produc music producers especially often put these in to protect hearing due to the loud environment and I looks like Louis is about to it it's already has the context I'm not buying this shade it might have been like a double whammy of I'm going to deaf in this girl I don't like but I think he was just trying to uh save his ears not shade uh Katy Perry and to be fair well I'm not gonna shake Katy Perry's performance wasn't awful aside from that weird moment on the strip club uh she had some good songs and she she performed her best and Louis she even said like I did all that on my first day of my period and uh that's impressive I know that's tough ladies that the first day can be rough and we shouldn't uh uh we should normalize that for people cuz it's tough that what women got to go through every month and uh the fact that she did that on that was actually impressive uh but uh it was too much for me she's trying too hard um I do believe she's an icon not a big fan of her new album I don't think she's going to make it happen as much but a lot of people saying this performance could have helped I don't think that many people really watched it and judging by the Numbers here Lewis I think I'm right sadly but there it is I want to know what you guys think I want to see these comments is the MV am I being too old and cynical or do you agree this has just become hot garbage
