Celebrating the Life of Charles Roberts

further let me make an announcement or two any amen will be in order any Hallelujah that squeaks out won't bother nobody any praise the Lord that you have as long as you mean it to Jesus it'll be in order and just one or two more announcements if you don't mind if anybody happens to stick your hand up and raise ra it at the Lord and just wave at him a minute nobody will be mad at you preacher we had a funeral exactly now the Bible teaches mourn when they come in am I oh Lord have mercy I'm going to get sweaty before I get ready uh it teaches us to uh rejoice when they leave so if we know we got a love one in glory right now good Lord uh doing much better than you and I doing then pardon me for being so direct because you'll find out in a minute I am direct uh you ought to be ashamed of yourself if you can't at least once before this funeral is over get a amen out get a Hallelujah out or at the very least raise your hand to the king of kings and thank God that all of us have an opportunity to go to the same place so wanted to get all that out before we got any further brother Charles a friend a brother in Christ gave us time and effort for our country and for our church deserves to be honored and speaking of spoken of respectfully and I know that we all got many memories of him and I'll just share one quick one and uh we'll just get out the way for a moment but this morning Lord the afternoon I want you to understand what's getting ready to happen in a few minutes I'm going to preach to you I'm going to preach to you my job here this morning is to plant seeds that's what he would want CU some of you might be here and you didn't want to be but you had to uh you can amen if you want to it'd be all right some of you don't like church I don't know what's happening get too quiet out there uh been a long time for some of you and some of you if you ever get out of here you ain't got no plans are coming back so we're going to plant some seeds that way and then we're going to give invitation and I know that's out of line these days but that'll be all right that way cuz there might be somebody here today Sister Margaret that's not ready to meet Jesus Christ but we know one that what and nothing would be greater this morning than to see you that don't know it come to this order and get to know so that's what's going to happen in a few minutes I pray some appreciate it but some might not but that'll be all right but let me share my memory and I'll sit down went to see brother Charles one Sunday evening it was about 5:15 at the time and I had to be at the church by six it's been several years back and brother Charles looked at me he said I planned on going to church this evening he said but my goats got out and they gone I don't know where they at he said but I wanted to go to church it's about 5:15 now and I I looked at brother Charles I said brother Charles why don't we pray for the goat uh God's a pretty good goat hurder and if he sees fit he'll get them on back to the house in time and you can go to church I'll never forget it he didn't hesitate he didn't look at me like I was crazy he jumped to the edge of his chair and he said let's pray and church I want you to know we pray that God if he saw fit if this goes lies I might be live I might be labeled to Looney tomb but that'll be all right two grown men on our knees said Lord if you see fit bring the goats back to the house but Lord here's the catch bring them back in time or brother Charles can get to church but either way we're going to thank you and I come on to church and about 5 to six Doug Charles walked in I walked over there to him he said well he said the goat showed up I said yes sir did you get him in the pin he saidwell that's the thing about it they just walked right in he said I hook the fence back up and he said I'm at church I'll never forget that as long as God blessed me thank God he was such a man that he knew God was so strong he' saved his soul but he knew that God was so loving he'd bring the goats back to the house what a God we serve and it's all about our Lord and savior and for those that don't know him but thank God for people like brother Charles [Music] de de all to go should be all the day long there are living we [Music] are father I [Music] understand Che of my the sun sh will all might [Music] take it Le our [Music] Earth [Music] my here after father all [Music] father Che the [Applause] [Music] we [Music] all love a you more days the as we sleep [Music] all about [Music] will understand all my [Applause] we see Jesus his glor when he comes in the we my will understand all [Music] with of my [Music] you all by [Applause] [Music] I thought about this service a man who lived the life of almost an entire century No Doubt had seen a lot in almost a hundred years experienced a lot can tell you so many things and then uh while preparing for this service I had a wild idea not mine by the way but to come to the church and go out on a skinny limb sister Mark and dare try to explain to y'all the greatest thing that brother Charles had ever seen or even did in his entire life reason I say it's a skinny Li Lim I've only known him about five years how in the world could I possibly know the things that he's done or seen or accomplished I mean after all uh when he was 12 year old uh a restaurant got started y'all might have heard of it they was trying to sell barbecue back then you might have heard of them they were called McDonald's well he was already 12 before they made the first sandwich uh since brother Charles's lifetime there had been three kings and one Queen in England he outlived all three of them or all four when brother Charles was 45 year old gasoline for the first time hit 50 Cent of gallon he was already 45 when he was four it was 17 Cent a g that man seen some things done some things serving our country great things he accomplished raising a family great things he did the year he was born 19 28 long time back for the first time in history John a mechanical device sliced a loaf of bread and put it in a bag first loaf of bread cut by a machine was put on the Shelf the year he was born that same year they okay to go ahead and build the Hoover Dam that same year you could buy a brand new Ford for $385 for $4,900 you could buy a brand new home average salary was a little over $1,100 a year seen some things done some great things so how in the world could I walk in this church and tell y'all the greatest thing that brother Charles ever done well I decided that weren't good enough I'd tell you his top three I'm going to share that with you right here at this service the three greatest things that brother Charles Roberts ever did in his nearly 100 Year life and I'm going to back it up cuz I brought a book with me y'all might have heard of it I know we got some from way up uh I didn't get it from DC those of you around here I didn't bring the news report I didn't even bring a science book I didn't bring the Guinness Book of World Record I I just looked around on my desk at the house and found one of them laying there so I thought I'd bring this with me and prove to everybody in this church and to everybody that's listening the greatest three things that this man ever did in his life and share it with you number one in the Book of Romans the 10th chapter the 10th verse now let me tell you ahead of time this ain't going to be popular everywhere there's going to be some you're going to be thankful that I'm up here preaching they all would to be one or two be glad when I sat down in hush but you know what I wouldn't make it very long if I worried about what folk thought huh you see cuz I got to meet the same maker oh Lord have mercy is my mic working Roy check my stuff I got to meet the same maker that brother Charles met and then I brother I got to act like he if he was just sitting here he wouldn't be very pleased with me sister Mark if I held back or I sugarcoated it or I took it easy because he was one of the most Faithful Men we had at this church until sickness got his body and you know what he used to do to me Lance he had walk up to me he had grab my suit coat and back then you could pull it all the way together and he had button that top button and he' say now preach the truth you found some people that wanted to hear it whether it hurt their feelings or not let me tell you the first greatest thing he ever did in his life Romans 10:10 for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness did you know that we're living in a day and time where there's a lot of stuff in this book that people don't believe anymore I wish I could get a Amen in here people don't believe stuff that's written in here anymore because it's weird or it's strange or it's too hard to believe but brother Charles believed what he read in this book you know what he believed he believed that over 2,000 years ago a virgin y'all going to make me pull my ear off I pull it when I get hungry for an amen just in case you don't know he believe a virgin through and by the power of the Holy Ghost he believed a virgin conceived a savior whose name was Jesus Christ and then he believed that that savior one day went to a Hill Called golgatha Lord have mercy starting to warm up in here he also believed that that same savior that went to that cross and he went to go go the he believed that that savior died not only did he believe that that savior died he believed that that savior rose again on the third day he believed everything that was in the book good Lord Almighty he believed that hey he believed everything that was from the book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation I never had he now I never had brother Charles tell me I don't believe what what you preach this morning if I preach from Genesis he believed it if I preach from Revelation he believed it if I preach that a donkey talked he believe it if I preach that a man walked on water he beli it if good Lord take this right here with he believed that if there was a hell there was a Heaven There was a blood there was a cross there was a Calvary whatever was in this book brother Charles believe it one of the greatest things that you will ever do or accomplish in your life is to believe this book yeah but preacher our government today oh Lord takes a different view well they a lie did I say that out loud yeah preacher folk today is it all right if I get down here preacher not everybody believes stuff in that Bible that's what's wrong with America right now you see there's not Nar lie in this book everything's true in this book and every time I laid my eyes on brother Charles Roberts while I was preaching I never saw his head go that way y'all ain't hear hearing me right I never saw his head go left to the right but no matter what I preached out of hear him no matter what I read to him out of here if I preached it whatever it was his head always went up and down and it was a amen and it was a praise the Lord because he believed in a savior called Jesus now folk I ain't going to keep you Al but I'm going to tell you this if you don't believe [Music] if you don't believe every word that is written in this book then you can I say ain't is that all right I know it's hard to find in English Lang but if you ain't going to heaven if you don't believe every word preacher if I got to believe that a donkey had a talk with a man one you got to believe that have I got to believe that there was a flood so bad one day that it got the whole world you got to believe it have I got to believe that one day I'm going to take my last breath and because I believe that I'll meet the one one of the greatest thing brother Charles ever did was believe what was written in this book can I tell you the second greatest thing he ever did look how hear me if you would in Romans 10: 13 for whosoever oh I'm going to get in trouble when I preach this line by the way why I'm thinking about it on behalf of the family thank you to everyone that's come out and supported and blessed and cooked and do everything and on behalf of the church God bless all of you church I want to tell you something I'm up here to talk about the greatest things that this man ever done and what I'm getting ready to preach right now will not be popular and it'll get me on trouble on the internet and I'm so excited about H we done been banned in Denmark and we going we hello hello somebody H what I'm getting ready to say is going to rule some feathers so are y'all ready for by the way you're all welcome to come back to New Life on a Sunday or a Wednesday if you want to but I understand if some of you don't want to I wish I could get amen uh for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved so you got this man that believed there was a savior he believed there was a heal called Calvary he believed that Jesus died and Rose from the grave but do you know what the second greatest thing that he ever did in his life he called out to Jesus because let me explain it to you like this Jesus died that whoo whoever will may come to him Jesus died that no matter who you are or where you from or what your last name is or the color of your skin he died that you might be born again and that you might be forgiven of your sins but he will not make you he will Lord have mercy my ears hurting all he won't make you he won't Force you but if you'll call out to him he will come to you so do you know what brother Charles did he said Jesus I believe you I believe you came I believe you died I believe you Rose and now Lord I want to ask you forgive me oh it's just too old fashioned I'm sorry forgive me of my sin few Sundays back or in fact last Wednesday we had a grown man on the old you know what he said when he looked at me I want to be saved well you Justin look friend I can tell you how to do it it won't take but a few seconds you ready do you believe you believe he died you believe he rose you believe his blood cover you believe he's coming back he said I do I said but D but one thing left to do and this is the big one cuz I can't do it for you ask Jesus forgive me of my sins because excuse me as good as a man he was a kind of man as he was with a loving as man as he was there was still a point in his life wish I could get amen ahead of time there was still a point in his life when he was lost and undone and I'm going to say the H word and I hope y'all be all right cuz you might not hear this at your church Lord have I'm going to get up here with the mic say I said you might not hear this at your church but there was a time in brother Charles's life when he was on the way to hell did I say that he was on the way to hell like every other lost man woman boy and girl but because he believed in Jesus and because he asked Jesus to forgive him then the Lord save his soul I'm just going to do something curious and it might backfire on me but I'm not scared any anybody in this church knows how it feels to be born again can I see your hand huh preacher I'm nervous I don't raise my hand well you'll be in lying around here let's try it again anybody in the lost they got a voice ain't we live in a day where everybody can speak but the Christian oh Lord I'm going to tell that I said everybody can say something but a Christian I'm going to try it one more time everybody has got a right to say something these days except the child of God well I want to tell you I got a right because my savior went and died for me and I want to tell you I'm proud to be in America but I'm also proud that my Lord and my savior whose name is Jesus Christ died that I might have life and thank God that brother Charles believed the same thing and he asked Jesus to forgive him of and if you don't ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins then you're not going to heaven that's right but preacher I pay my ties right a blank check baby that ain't big enough preacher I vacuum the floor do it with a straw it still ain't good enough you have to ask Jesus y'all might as well get ready CU we're going to do something out of line these days we're going to have invitation in a second you have to ask Jesus to forgive you and finally I want to tell you the greatest thing that in almost 100 Years of Living that brother Charles Roberts done Lord have mercy second Corinthians 5:8 we are confident did you hear me we are confident I say and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord family friends I'm 100% confident wish I could talk to somebody because he believed and because he repented that's it because he believed then because he repented not because of how long he was a member at this church not because of how good a daddy he was not because of how good a man he was not because he served this country but because he believed and because he repented a couple of days ago when he said his last words and when he took his last breath the next thing he laid his eyes on and Sister Margaret can I ask you something I can't think of a greater way to end such a beautiful life what you reckon he done for when the first time he laid his eyes on Jesus Christ I'm just asking I wonder what he did where for the first time when he put his feet on that street of go he looked up and there stood the King of Kings and the Lord of lords that looked at him and said welcome home preacher you can't believe that just this Ser is I'm standing here I believe it and I'm going hush right now and say this I know not everybody believes this book no more and I know not everybody believes in hard preaching anymore we we just talking to you right now but I want to tell you whether you believe it or not you can't change it and I'm going to ask him to sing a song here it says uh let me paraphrase it it all be be all right he'll all be all right as soon as I touch Calvary the greatest thing he ever accomplished in his life he did a couple of days ago that's right when he left this world and went to see his savior now I got a question to ask all of you what's the greatest thing you'll ever accompany big bank account a big name well if you don't do what he did yours will be gone when you say goodbye but what he had just got started and I want to ask you to stand cuz I'm going to give invitation if your heart's heavy you need help or you need to talk to the Lord or whatever it might be this all is open as they sing this song but I want to ask you something if you had to meet your savior right now would Heaven be your home because if your heart's not ready then I promise you I promise you the treasures you laid up down here will not last this 's open preacher I can't come yes you can friend don't worry about this heavy lo I car don't be come soon if it sends me toight my knes for I know a place where all my love will I die I'll be all as soon as I touch C If my people
