I'm Dave Roy I'm a former with that poor water services our job is to provide you with clean safe drinking water Dave not many people really think about what you do I mean they know EPCOR exist they know about your crews but they that's pretty much it we work with the water distribution system so preparing water main breaks hydrants valves maintaining all the other equipment in there not a lot of people realize how much work it is it's just not a job like we're providing an essential service right people need water it's important so when you're a foreman on the scene what are your responsibilities lots of responsibilities and main things you're in charge of that site your manpower make sure everyone's safe the public save and come up with a game plan and how to get things done in a timely matter right let's talk about water main breaks because I think that's what people associate your group to the most because right away when it happens they're thinking how long is it going to take until my water is back so that's a crucial responsibility it's probably something people relate to us the most just because of that's where you're affected the most is a water main break water main breaks happen all the time especially in the winter very busy says the ground thaws and freezes ground shifts causing breaks leaks and makes it difficult for us at times but we got the support and the good crew guys to help so when you talk about the difficulty that the challenges of that kind of situation it is an idea well first of all when a break happens we have water trouble that responds and they're out to control the flow of water like isolating valves notifying residents and so you have the public so they see all the water gushing out and they're worried about it coming you know into their their property or that what do you say to them on-site to kind of calm their fears usually a troubleman at first the water trouble that are isolating it by closing the valves a lot of times they have the first contact with customers other times and we're on seeing customers aren't home so when they come home look on their tab there's no water then they come out talking to us most people have been friendly other times it's not we just try to explain them that we're working as quickly as safely as possible once the water shut off then we have a leak detection group that can assist us we use electronic correlators to help pinpoint the break then after that we can safely set up the area for the public keep them out of the work area and then a crew moves in from there they excavate you dig anywhere from two to four meters in depth we got utilities in the way right gasps telephone power lines but we got all the assistance that will help us get to the break once we repair the right reflection to nearby hydrants take water samples samples go to our lab down at Rossdale a sample make sure it's good quality water and we restore water to everyone as time has gone on safety has become huge that aspect the job has changed the way we shore our ditches we put around their ditches the public eye is a big thing public is always watching always someone recording taping there's news crews eyes so what do you find the most rewarding the sense of accomplishment especially when you have people out of water and restoring their water in that sense of accomplishment I love the challenge I love working with the people you're out in the city every day in the different spot and then in the end when it is all back to normal the attendance down there and go away of course it's good challenge well the time is different work every day different part of the city different people and great teams are working [Music]
