2023 was one of the best seasons the South Shelby football team has ever had on top of winning the Clarence Canon confererence the Cardinals went undefeated in the regular season for the first time since 2000 this season they have their sight set even higher ktb's Kaya McGee stopped by practice to learn more about how the Cardinals plan to take off this season despite losing a solid senior class left by Kendall Heyman and Cameron wisman the South Shelby football team has high s for this season all the success last year has this team hungry as they look to reload to take the next step towards their goal of a district title I just work on building off what we did the year before you know and uh you know every year is a new year in high school football and um luckily we bring back a lot of our kids um from last year's team especially on defense so uh you know looking to be competitive and and play some good ball the Cardinals bring back starters across the board on offense and defense Junior quarterback Chas mulling says last year's success hasn't prepared to take on any opponent this season just to all of us being as a team a lot more knowledge in the game and uh knowing how to play football what goes into it and uh what what to do when it comes down to whenever the ball is snapped it'll be hard to fill the void wisman Heyman left in the back field the two running backs combined for more than 2800 yards and 49 touchdowns last season as Muller ring enters his second season lean the offense he's looking to take on a bigger role coach gunterman said the passing attack is ready the take off is definitely a blessing when you have a kid that's been through the offense that knows um what he's supposed to be doing he knows the play calls he knows what the team's supposed to do um is is a good thing and some really good wide receivers come back with Owen Steve and Preston Nelson so uh we're going to be able to throw the ball a little bit this year for sure last year the offense was the headliner scoring more than 50 points a game but the defense was sneaky good holding eight of their 11 opponents to six or less points this year they brought back most of their starters and they are poised to lock down offenses all season long well we're a little short on defensive line but we're going to get after and make sure you know we get a lot of Pancakes and a lot of sacks uh we're definitely want to try to get a bunch of takeaways this year get a bunch of three and outs try to hold teams to low scores the Cardinals start the year on the road as they travel to harisur to take on the Bulldogs on August 30th kayin McGee ktvo Sports
