um do you feel uh that that was unlucky or could you have done anything different and did it come down to that incident on on the first lap between your two drivers I mean those will be all the things that we review uh tonight and then more thoroughly uh next week I think Ferrari uh hats off to him they did a great job it was aggressive it was an aggressive move um but I've not spoken with them yet and you know we'll we'll talk about that I thought their uh the start was great and that was kind of what we'd discussed kind of get behind the other and fan out to make sure no one else can get by but uh I think Lando was probably caught by surprised with that move um thinking Let's uh let's just tuck into a onew and see if we can uh pull a bit of a gap so it is something that we'll uh we'll discuss in he just said so it was agreed that one guy would fan out to protect but are you saying that maybe Oscar went beyond the agreement or something no no no that was going into turn one into turn one but Zach isn't it time to introduce a little bit of Team orders let's call it that way into the papaya rules yeah as we've learned because look that turn four now you you allowed lir to come through first of all Lando almost spun yeah I mean that was very close it won't get closer than that and then you allowed lir to come through yeah and who knows maybe that was exactly those 2.6 seconds well that's exactly cost you the win that's EXA Poss Implement some rules that's what we'll discuss you know next week we'll we'll look at that because yeah you know unfortunately getting L cleric in the middle could we have been able to pull away and then you know the 3 4 seconds we lost the L cler by uh gain that then so no it's it's a fair question I got one more sorry papaya rules yeah what are they yeah what are they and was Oscar following the papaya rules or what did you go beyond them in turn four no the papaya rules are you know it's your teammate race him hard race him clean don't touch that happened um it was an aggressive pass so that's a conversation that will uh we'll have it was a bit nerve-wracking on on pit wall but it's it's really just you know respect your teammate you know Lando got a a bad run uh out of that corner as as well so kind of open the door a little bit but uh yeah you know it would have been nice to see him uh run one two a little bit longer okay so my two cents the pass from Oscar was just awesome and fair and square even within teammates that's my two cents to it they they didn't touch it was an aggressive pass but it was it was a clean pass that said if you'd swap okay I know I know the sentiment here from McLaren is that you you know you can race you've just explained it there however there are 10 points that Lando has has left on the table table and when he's trying to chase down someone of Max ven's caliber surely the the number one priority is to win a dri Championship isn't it Zach uh number one priority is to win both championships I know that's kind of two priorities but uh you know they're both young drivers who want to win uh you know we've always believed in having uh two number ones uh that's always been mcclaren's way it can be very difficult to uh manage you know what it was like with Lewis we've seen it with Senna and pro so they uh they get along long great they do race each other uh clean and you know it's philosophical do a onear team or a two-car team and uh you know the easiest thing would have been for uh Lando to just run away with it and then not have to put uh difficult decisions on on pit wall but uh you know Andre and I are taking it one race at a time okay One race at a time but as I said it's still a net gain I believe for Lando of eight points the gap's now down to 62 you you've come to this race and it was the quickest car again okay but for the strategy today was the car totally different track from zanor We Now go to aan we saying they're all sort of outliers and then we go to another one where Red Bulls suffered last year so what is what is the thought process as you approach to the last eight races I I don't see why we can't be uh going for the win every every race weekend I think we're going to have tough competition but I think we've shown our cars good in kind of all conditions all different types of circuits uh we were very strong in in Singapore last year uh Baku is always a bit of a a crazy crazy race but you know we're going to show up every weekend uh trying to go for pole trying to go for front row lockout trying to trying to win uh I'm sure it won't quite work like that for the next eight races but uh cu the competition's tough I think what we have is a three-r race for the Constructor Championship because Ferrari is 30 points behind but look at them today it was it was them and us so uh I think it's exciting uh to see what happens it's good Formula 1 right now isn't it how is it when you're in the thick of it even better better or even more nerve-wracking and sometimes disappoint it's a bit of both you know when you start first and second you kind of you know just think about where we were at the start of 23 and here we are second and third a little bit little bit of a sting of course but uh I think we need to look and go that's 12 podiums in a row and we're uh what eight nine points out of uh the the constructor's championship Lando closed the Gap so uh not a bad result can I ask one more thing how do you stabilized do you think Red Bull is at the moment they really seem to have lost their Mojo out there and you say you're receiving tons of CVS going across your table all the time from that team we've seen some high-profile people leave the team what are your thoughts yeah um you know ultimately don't know what's going on in there but you know I think Adrien newie uh I bet it'd be nice to have him around the conference room table right now looking at how to improve the car and obviously Jonathan wheatley's still there but you know he's moving on and and Rob Marshall who joined us so you've got uh three of the most senior people that were at at Red Bull huge contributors that it can't not be a loss we all have bad pit stops but it does seem to be that things are a bit more destabilized than they've certainly been recently and we hear you're trying to take Adrian newie but he's not returning your calls anymore is that correct we he always returns my calls we're good friends we go historic racing but uh as I've said I'm very happy with the racing team that we have depends if your pockets are deeper than Lawrence strolls I suppose thank you Zach really appreciate time commiserations today but as you said miserable second and third okay all right thank you there we are appreciate it let's first of all uh it's uh uh disappointing in the sense that we had the performance to win the race but it was a race that uh was a very close race between a one and a two most cards went for the two I think for ler was a little easier to take a gamble on the one stop because he was the car following for us with Lando we had a lock up on the front left which meant uh the ti was going so we went clearly Ona to with Oscar he was more marginal but he had and we had concerns as well so we went on a two we thought we would have time to recover the the lead but Ferrari did a very good job lar drove very well so we also have to acknowledge that competitors can uh can do a good job and make uh in this case the One Stop work so well done to Ferrari but a strong weekend for McLaren overall a very positive weekend indeed yeah Lando seemed understandably downcast he said the Ferrari was the quickest car today I suppose it was they won the race but I know what you mean in terms of a net performance the McLaren was probably the quickest can you understand Lando's disappointment with the way that things have turned out especially as Oscar is ahead of him well first of all like who was the quickest today or yesterday is very difficult because yesterday six cars in two t and today was very marginal I think the dirty air was also mixing up a bit the real Pace obviously who was in the lead would look faster but I think between ler and uh and the two McLarens there wasn't much to pick ultimately is these details from uh making the front left work uh for a long stint that made the difference today uh we knew actually that this would have been a difficult venue for us so I think it's very encouraging that ultimately we were in condition to win the race even if we didn't achieve It ultimately and we were po position and P1 P2 in qualifying so again very encouraging for the rest of the of the Season just to be clear about the turn three pass with Oscar on Lando that was all fine that was all absolutely clear that that could happen Lando wasn't surprised he didn't he wouldn't have expected Oscar not to attack him on the first lap as a whole well in terms of expectation and the uh impression of the drivers and also the uh overtaking itself we will have to take a look with some calm have a review together with them and then we will assess the situation and if there's any learning to take from there we will take it for the future okay well listen I know you've won here in a different team shirt for Ferrari before um I'll let you go uh I know you won't enjoy it but maybe you can a bit I'm enjoying a P1 P2 for uh McLaren which is a very strong result and uh I mean it's good for uh obviously for uh Ferrari to win in their uh home race but uh we look to the papaya callers and uh we look to a very um how to say a very exciting final part of the season thanks for S with us thanks
