zero one let's get started hello and welcome to Beyond top 10 tennis my name is Dr Ashley Morgan Burge and I am your host thank you so much for joining us today we have a jam packed week um if you've been tuning in you know that we are doing the Olympic Edition in conjunction with the current uh week on the WT and the ATP tours because we still have tournaments in action primarily Washington is underway this week and we still have catch up from last week's and those Champions and we've got a lot of firsttime uh Maiden title holders there and we've got WTA and ATP tours and also then um tune in we have the Olympic action underway though I'm going to leave all of the discussion for the Olympics to those special episodes whilst we wrap up this week's edition um to really look at um what's essentially underway on both the WT and ATP tours respectively to keep Pace obviously with those results rankings performances and then when the Olympics does wrap up we will look at how those current uh metrics um specific performances of play and how they have been progressing align with those rankings because um those who do claim obviously gold silver bronze at the Olympics we are not going to see that in the rankings because the Olympics does not come with points which is really important to share but also because it is on clay and the new season is now shifting towards hardcourt surface whilst we are going to touch on some clay events this week also our second hardcard essentially for this part of the season um it's it's quite interesting to look at U potentially a more clear progression for those who are advancing on hard given the US Open is only a matter of roughly 4 weeks um away now um which is only a really small amount of time and once the Olympics does wrap up that's really almost just just almost um an additional week um taken off those players schedule to progress along the hardcourt season granted um this transition between Wimbledon um from clay was just as small um it really goes to show I think the pressure placed on a play body especially at this time of the Season okay first and foremost if you've been with us for some time now you know what we're all about so thank you so much if this is one of your uh First episodes you are tuning in as always I really would encourage you to track back to some of our earlier episodes and there are a lot there um but also those early episodes you will hear more about me my background the theories on behind the Publications on behind the achievements that have come along with that so if you want to learn more about me and my background head on over to a international click on about Dr B and you will see everything that's unfolded there but also um the scientific side the data how everything's come from but more so click on the the book link there as well and you will see those 12 Publications um primarily um 11 of those are centered towards how to develop a top 10 tennis ranking my latest release that came out at the end of last year how to develop a top 10 tennis ranking the power of the eth key then also um let's say two seasons prior to that the Seven Keys which is behind me there as well really essentially embodies um eight facets of play that go into developing U the best players in the world and we can say those nine techs prior a stepping stone so building blocks to get there so without that knowledge and that uh knowledge base um if you prefer those eight keys are not attainable um or maintain aable as well in in equal measure because you need to build those foundations and for those of you who ask why or why so much first and foremost to become one of the best tennis players in the world it's not easy um but also a lot of work goes into that but also the knowledge bank and you are building that to better um understand ascertain the different moving facets that are in play there so again those early episodes dive into more of let's say the data the scientific underpinnings but also the work in those earlier texts um that is more broadly extrapolated before this season we transition to really pinpoint rankings and results um almost in real time or as real as we can get with the live rankings and those results of the past week and to really share um any relevant uh cross-sections there additional insights on how players are tracking but also how our metrics serve to with our Predictive Analytics to look at which players are going to progress and others that potentially are not um some of the best players in the world from s Tech alar C sabalenka we've been able to and my daa's been able to pinpoint um if they would rise to a top 10 ranking if they're going to stay there when potentially they were going to win a a grand slam if they were or were not um but also um Prime players from many seasons ago if they would crack into the top 10 one of the most recent this season is deor players who are going to regress outside the top 10 this season we've said the lies of Fritz Antipas both have the same with more recently say Jabor yes she has Sakari earlier this season before progressing back in and on that uh micro scale it's only um these key very um minuscule inferences that we get to uh really compile to say if a player is going to stay there and or not so what you get to do with that is to say well if that minuscule piece of data shifts my performance let's really knuckle that down let's make sure I'm implementing these key technical parameters integrating them each and every training session to make sure I'm staying at my absolute peak of the game because if there's a hiccup there we know we're going to regress um one that's um come to light more recently obviously and we've touched on this a number of times this season is Rune and his coaching team while he also was predicted this season to shift outside the top 10 which we know has happened and we have um episodes that have focused around that but also more so the coach athlete relationship and believe it or not I actually went to bed last night thinking about today's episode and around the coach athlete relationship and I normally don't share I think the behind the scenes of discussions there that really go on between when I'm thinking about how I can best phrase this and look a lot of those earlier text around the coach athlete relationship because it's so incredibly important powerful one of those keys is also really wrapped up in that and for those of you who um are not familiar with that really quickly it's really the relationship the intersection between the coach and the athlete um and there's no necessarily right or wrong with that individual but it's finding the alignment between the two pairs one of the biggest fundamentals that I can say however and when we're looking at a play inside the top 20 top 10 which was Run's case now top 20 and that coach athlete relationship we know it was broken and when I say broken we're saying one of the biggest indicators and I cannot stress this enough if your Heights to set on a top 10 ranking and staying there ask yourself the question and your coach the question do you know the Eight Keys it's that simple if they do not that it's it's more likely than not broken if they do not have the willingness to upskill with those Eight Keys you know the answer and whilst we know that Run's now former coach was very successful with a previous player and I I won't repeat that um intentionally we know also with the data just because a coach can be that successful with a player does not mean they will be that successful with another player and you go why you have all of this knowledge potentially at your disposal but if you are not equipped to form a successful and um conducive coach athlete relationship it's not going to work it is absolutely one of those fundamental pieces and why it really is wrapped up in one of those Eight Keys and it really goes to show because it's a prime example we see over and over again is that if you are not able to reform and establish a healthy relationship with a player and between that coach uh the likelihood of the success happening and the continuation of that cess let alone uh claiming that Ma and green slam is weakened um and there's a lot there obviously look to learn more about that um the seven keys right here uh the Eight Keys there and why the Seven Keys it's broken down into obviously those seven um fragments if you like the eighth key is that detailed it takes up a whole text in and of itself and obviously to really grasp the underpinnings of each key is where all of those other books come in why because again going with the data I had to build that Foundation to allow you to understand each and every reader each and every player coach to understand before saying well okay now here it is here are the keys a lot of work and those of you who have been following me again for some time you know that that's a 20 years has gone into that and why I am the world's leading scientist on coach and Athlete Performance and arguably the highest qualified coach in the world and it's something I'm so incredibly proud of and I don't take for granted in any way shape or form and why I continue sharing and writing and I think the good news I can share today is that it looks like uh my next book will be out at the end of the year oh all going well I don't typically share too much in advance from that perspect uh perspective though when it does start taking shap I do get quite excited it's very rewarding because I get um even more so I think excited again that um I have the opportunity to share with you um another piece of the puzzle if you like to help guide you along the way towards um achieving that top 10 tennis ranking right okay there's a lot there um as always questions I'll leave that to the end as well um but they're always welcome um and I'm more than happy to answer or address questions qums concerns in our episodes as well all right so we have a number of events we're going to start with the WTA 2 results before rain Kings then we'll cross over to the ATP Tour now remember last week uh Midway we got roughly to those earlier stages so this week we are kicking off with round of um uh not round the quarterfinal stages um of the respective events and then we will track back all right so we're starting this week um with the Prague open so in the Czech Republic so quarterfinal stage remember nosova was the number one seene noova side or nocco straight sets win Lynette toova um Lynette with a three set win fretch kalinina fretch with that thre set win and then we had Samson that upand cominging our 16-year-old with a the three set win over Celica mativa really impressive there so semifinals now noova number one seed has been tracking quite well Lynette the fourth seat Lynette With the Wind 36 uh 63 3676 so I'll say that again 63 3676 72 in that tie break so noova was upset there noteworthy Lynette has been making inroads this season I won't say tracking but she has been making those key progressions all right Samson and fretch fretch was the six seed um fretch with the win here but look at the score line 36 six love 42 Samson retired what's somewhat concerning is Samson's only 16 years of age she has that retirement now you need to remember as well um what I've just touched on all of those ticks that have come um prior to the Keys being shared is around mitigating injuries which means irrespective you're that 10y old that 20y old that 15y old that 25y old that 30-y old these technical parameters are designed to slightly adapt your game to make it more functional to ensure you are mitigating injuries along the way to allow you to play longer at a higher level and how and or why we've got the perfect example that obviously corresponds with our data in Novak jovic we understand understand why he's been able to play at his absolute Peak for a long period of time because of this on the woman's side yes Serena you need to remember she was still performing exceptionally well into her early 30s another player um from years ago remember Lena she did not Peak until those late 20s early 30s with Incredible success but you need to be able to maintain your health and your body for an extended period of time we know Nadal as well but let's reflect as well n Dal didn't start coming down with uh let's say a number of injuries until he was into his 30s but we also know the key uh technical differences in his game in contrast to say the likes of a jovic it's very different and why it's no surprise those injuries have happened Murray is a very different example because when we're looking at a joint and how it potentially has become overused or destabilized it is typically uh to do with developmental um not performance wise um on a personal note um something I was diagnosed with only last year was something very similar um hip impingement so with my with my hip Fai um for those of you understand that and we know that there are some things that are out of our control so that are bone related but when we're looking at mitigating injuries from a tennis stand point and performance wise having being able to establish those Peak performances these are the conducive technical metrics when you apply them in your game you get to achieve the Pinnacle of play that correspond with the likes of each and every Grand Slam Champion for more than the past 10 years every Grand Slam Champion over the last 10 plus years correlate more often than not with these metrics and the likes of a Serena federa Nadal to jovic the four players the best of all time with 20 plus green slams each all correspond with these metrics I don't think you get any more impressive than that and it is really exciting and I don't typically share that how profound it is cuz I focus on um the in between but it's so incredibly important okay the final result here uh Lynette did get that win over FR four seed six seed respectively Lynette 6261 it's her maiden Grand Slam title which is really I think interesting um but um important to note that um even if you are ranked inside the top 100 top 80 top 50 does not mean you have won a title on tour yet which uh may come as a surprise for some it's a surprise to me also still um but it's still shows how hard and competitive it still is even if you've been on tour for a number of years to literally land that Maiden title really impressive for Lynette there so we will see a progression in her ranking um when we get to there shortly all right the next one is the um assah open in Romania quarterfinal stage uh May Andrea was the first seed so um she played Movic quarters 2 and0 win there danovich over Bond straight say recall last week's episode how we touched on denich and how she has subtly been tracking but not consistently really good event for her here all right avanessian and Christian fifth uh fifth seed and third seed respectively avanessian with the win there straight says p and Jackie Mo P with a three set win over um Jan jic okay semi-finals on Dria danovich this was always going to potentially live up to the high granted what I've just said about dich and it did not disappoint three sets 36 63 76 71 in that tie break so for denich to push on Dria to three sets remember on Dria around that top 30 ranking range is very very impressive what we're after that reaffirmed Den denich is on the radar in a different way while it's not at the Grand Slam level she has been popping up this season and I do believe definitely potentially one to watch for the later half of this season if not next season all right um the other semi-finals aess in the fifth seed over pet straight sets 2 and three and we know Andria did get this win here Andrea won her maiden um title on tour which for some of us we might s uh find somewhat surprising given her rise obviously at such a young um age um Andrea 17 now but number 1C 57754 love unfortunately avanessian did retire there so I'm just going to refer back to that conversation I've just had around mitigating injuries the importance there and that you should not be retiring on to it there are ways to make sure you do maintain that health and it is directly correlated with um how your body moves um those technical parameters and if there is a gap in your coach's education they can upskill with those Eight Keys and as a player if you ask that coach do you have the eight keys are we integrating them into my game if that answer is no the answer is there for you all right next event up we are going somewhat quickly now cuz I really want to get have enough time to look at that obviously the atps but also dive into the rankings polish open uh the quarterfinal stage here all right this was a smaller event in comparison to the others but do remember um I did gauge those Predictive Analytics last week and I did highlight Parks so those of you who have been following along we know the answer so that is another tick with the data and these ation that we're essentially having in real time CU reflect I was sharing that when it was live and underway before the results were uncovered if you're not sure track back to last week's episode to reaffirm there all right joint and bouevard straight sets to Joint um schena over SEMA straight says to schena Parks is very familiar there and um what we did touch on just a short time ago over Shin kobat straight set and Kung over glushko all right straight say um what I did really want to reaffirm and that was three sets my apologies uh semi-finals now before we dive in is a lot of these names we are not so much familiar with because they're not um essentially ranked within that key ranking range that we do highlight on however it was not worthy to look at a couple of these names and how this event was unfolding to potentially see if one of these players was on the radar or would shift potentially all right we'll get there all right we are now at that semifinal stage and again reaffirming the progression and those names that I've already mentioned all right joint did get a three set win over shinsa um 62266 love then par three sets over Kung 76 that was 74 3662 and the winner there we had in the final Park joint and again with our data 4663 632 Parks another tick for the data I love that when it happens madeen title I do believe four Parks or potentially it is her second let's go with Maiden at this level um nonetheless all right the big event this one is actually there's only one event this week on both respective tours because the Olympics is and or are underway and that is in Washington for both tours we only have on the WTA 2 those first round results and we obviously do have a number of buys but it is a round of 32 is where it St sabil Lanka is obviously the first seed it looks like she's been given the green light to play with that obviously um shoulder injury that has sideline or did sideline her essentially from Wimbledon and we already knew that withdraw from the Olympics earlier on I'm I'm pretty sure there's another conversation behind there but she did have a little bit more time to recoup and prepare for Washington so she does have a buy first round and will face off against um raky MOA in the round of 16 all right Vol over raky Rim over with that win um 4 and three Wang over plisa 57 63 six love very good win for wank Baptist over a a ranker as a ranker with that win two tie breaks there a ranker is the six seed um but look it was 86 and 73 very impressive performance then for Baptist Jabor has a buy she is the fourth seed remember she has regressed outside the top 10 I think she's around 15 16 in the rankings before we revisit that all right Montgomery with a win over Rogers 5 and three remember Shelby Rogers she did actually um track in the rankings roughly two three seasons ago now while she has regressed ranking wise she's definitely still obviously there to put up a really good challenge for the best of the best I would argue right busov with a win over Kesler in 34 and then 4662 town and good win over poapoa the N SE 2 and two that's a very good win for Town and merens the eighth seed against ranu ranu very good win 623 664 little bit surprising rakan who did not play the clay surface um at the Olympics that said she is young enough to know that she will ideally have another one two potentially three more Olympics in her if she maintains a level of play which again is No mean task we don't have that many players who do maintain that level of play over let's say that 10 uh 15 years of play well essentially that 12 years over that three uh um Olympics when know Murray obviously had that too there and I did touch on that in our Olympic Edition but more so kerba ker is picking up winds as well this week we know she's medaled previously that she did get that silver and she has performed quite well at the Olympics but there are not that many players yes Serena did as well Venus did but neither of them said got multiple to their name it's not as though Venus and Serena shared those gold um over three to four Olympics is a lot there nadala as well um fedck jovic um has been able to obviously he's only medaled I believe once at that bronze level um but it really goes to say that irrespective if a player is at that pig performance it doesn't mean they have each and every Olympics so it's very very profound I think in that respect when we're looking at a players longevity on tour the Olympics pried a really good Benchmark to see if a player is still at that level of play so it reaffirms that maybe you will not be a top 10 player in 4 years and the likelihood of you uh having or being able to contend for um a Podium finish is not um a given okay so really good performance there from rakano with that win um Sterns got a win over noo um 3 and six there apologies as always for the mispronunciation in action as we are coming live from Washington but DOA is up against Kennan and how's this Bosa is up five love um as we're um live really from what's happening in the action in Washington all right Samson overa third seed did get a buy paven for three set went over Krueger 63 4664 Stevens fell to Anna Sova very good win for Anna Sova um 6375 we know Anna Sova has regress back in the rankings we know what she's capable of we're just looking at that level of Maintenance um that level of consistency from one event to the next um but nonetheless really good um performance there from her against Stevens doll high three set win over Sano 61 3664 and kakina is the second seed has a buy there obviously on rankings alone kazakina would have been able to get entry into the Olympics um little bit uh disheartening that we do have a number of players inside I think this ranking range that could have played nonetheless I think a number of players um especially from those countries um that do have let's say sanctions against them um granted that they would not be representing that country in a manner of speaking does remove I think one part of the element there's a discussion obviously to be had there um likewise obviously we know those countries Third Time Lucky um from bellus to uh Russia and why um with what's going on um and I know there are other countries in that mix as well there I think the primary to obviously with those sanctions that or that um cross over to the Olympics but we also know some players because of the schedule being so heavy and jam-packed this season have also made that choice all right noteworthy round the 16s we've got pavlenko against Anders overa kazakina and dohy all right samsonova will play the winner of B Bosa and Kennan it's now 51 Sterns and rakano bazoka and towns and Ja and Montgomery as a rank and way and sabalan over Rak overa that we touched on earlier all right that wraps up Washington we will track back to that next week to see how that has unfolded now we've touched on all four of those events let's head on over to the rankings Osaka is at 100 she has finally cracked back into the 100 um and look let's remember I think at the beginning of the year aaka ranking blew up to around 500 I think there was that choice not to um choose that protected ranking at that time um we do know however when or before oaka did take that time off that ranking had progressed but she did take time away from to nonetheless it had in no way shape or form reflected her performance so great to see am masaka at that 100 cracking back in there twoo progression and I think with the hardc season I'm really looking for um just onwards and upwards from Naomi and I said this earlier on in the season that if aaka makes a really good run at the US Open round a 16 quarterfinals potentially semi-finals I'm not going to be surprised but I really want to see that level of play uh from Roland GIS transfer over to the US Open so far not at the Olympics um but she did have a tough first round I believe against CA uh but we're really looking for Naomi to track and I definitely believe she's more than capable of that all right um bigger mes we got P up eight so she's cracked into the top 100 at 98 in the world Baptist um hibino to Z four and three places up respectively to 97 through to 95 San's taking a really big hit at 29 regression so she's in at at 93 in the world savil back 1592 all right um other I think big jumps there's a lot of movement here um in the ranking ranges um a lot of shifts from um darts at 75 she's up five and gb's up five at 74 a lot of movies this week There's tson I think is the only player who has stayed steady inside the top 60 that has just maintained that ranking at 63 well there a each and every player that I am passing at the moment has shifted in their ranking bka has stayed the same at 60 parry's back 7 59 Evian is up 18 that's huge 58 we've just touched on the Y Christians up 4 57 bural back 1155 cannons up 2 54 Sooners up 2 53 um inside the top 50 now fretch is up 9 to 48 plisa is back 144 Lynette is up 741 would have hoped that um uh gaining that title winning that Maiden title would have pushed pushed um lyette a little bit further up the rankings but I guess seven is still better than potentially that one or two all right inside the top 40 we do not have as many uh movers Bol is still firm at at uh 34 we know she's top 30 pav Chen FM at 33 we know she's top 30 Spina is still at 31 we know she's well I say top 30 but really uh top 15 makova is at 30 followed by alexandrova yes stka noova firm at 27 Garcia Fernandez and schneiders at 24 and Dria is up nine points a new time ranking High um with that Maiden title 23 in the world May then veage is at 21 all right no ranking movers inside the top 20 now as a rank is the same all right vov is 18 Jabor is at 16 ke is at 14 I am skipping by two kazak Keen is at 12 ostar Peno is still on the cusp of becoming a barrier breaker again this season all right no movs in the top 10 s g sabalenka riverina is not in the Olympics nor is sabalan palini um Puli know early exit Zen still in action Sakari still in action Collins and ketov are still all in action so that's eight um of the top 10 who are in action at the Olympics okay but only um Rian is not in action it doesn't look like and Washington sabalan obviously is in action just do I think put the top 10 better into perspective all right let's head on over uh to the ATP Tour now uh we will get back to the rankings last but let's first look at quarterfinals onwards for for Croatia so the plava lagona Croatia open all right uh we do have um rubl was the number one seat so he had a three set win over marzan um sondo fourth seed three set win over SRO menik and sing menic straight sets win over seeing that lucky loser there mazetti over leovic um thre set win as well all right on to the semi-finals um rublev surprise upset here well done to Sur lundo fourth seed 7664 break was 86 reaffirming remember why um rubv was marked to regress outside the top 10 he still ranked inside the top 10 but he is still one of those players that really when we're looking at the data the analytics needs to shift outside the top 10 to really reaffirm um the status and the depth of the current players okay um menic and mati was the other side of the semi-finals and mati with a very good win over menic 4 and one and tile wise well done to Londo I'm granted how well mati played at Wimbledon Sur Alondo 26647 6 and that was um a 75 tie break there but that is Sensational then for sur Londo to um grab that title really good win over mati all right that one wraps up Croatia onwards to um we're on to the Atlant open a quarterfinal stage again all right we had Shane uh the qualifier over per cell who was the eighth seed but Shan very good win uh 7664 Thompson and David H F at the Wild Card Thompson with a three set win Nisha over Tio the third SE really good win there for Nisha um render neck over beluchi the qualify three sets very good one there for rylean all right at semi-final stage we had Shang and Thompson Thompson with a three set win over the qualifier 63 4663 Nisha over renck all right 63 46 six SP very good run for Nisha all right Thompson into the final with Nisha and Nisha with a win over Thompson the four seed 4676 7262 that's Sensational for Nisha Nisha has not necessarily been tracking this season that's an exceptional result I think without a doubt Nisha is on the radar with that um Maiden title I do believe really impressive performance um and it'll be very interesting to see how Nish Joka now performs I think um next tournament and leading on um toward towards the hardcourt season all right uh the next event that we do have um as I'm almost clicking into it there the generally open in Austria all right quarter final stage bayz is the number one seed and he was upset in the quarters by Gaston in three sets there martinz the fourth seed he was upset in the quarters by Diaz austa thre set win Half Men got that win over Sabo Wilds straight sets and bartini straight sets went over monino Del Boran very good impressive for bartini without a doubt you need to favor bartini there now even though I know the score line track back to last week's episode before the score line has been or was unveiled and what I had to say about bartini his ability to track and the likelihood for him to progress in the rankings very important there all of this is based on data um and it is um for a better wording second nature as someone who scientist and who is the best at what they do in the world it is second nature uh for me to look at a player's game and to share with you if they will or will not progress obviously behind that is 12 books 11 specific in this area where I have analyzed researched crunched the numbers for such an extended period of time put a player in front of me and I will tell you if they will progress or not um it is something I am incredibly proud of developing um almost a six cents but I'm so incredibly excited to be able to share it with you to be able to impart into your own game as you progress whether it's through your ma in Grand Slam to cracking to the top 100 top 20 let alone top 10 to replicated success all right semifinal um results gas Dawn straight sets win over deaz austa one and two love so di looks like he has retired there in the second set bar straight sets over halfman 4 and four final bertini over Gast Dawn 7563 I do believe this is bertini's second if not third title in the space of probably the last 2 3 months this is absolutely incredibly impressive for bertini former top 10 player we know he's been a grand slam finalist before he is definitely tracking bartini is playing I think some of the best tennis we have seen from him since he regressed and struggled obviously with those injuries and coming back it looks like he has refound that Health he's starting to find that form again barany if he keeps this up he will potentially crack into the top 20 before the seasons end very impressive all right let's head on over to Washington now we've got a little bit more um action in the first round um to touch on in contrast to uh the WTA to um rub for perspective is the number one seed so he's got to buy first round van Ash over kazook 4 and three first round all right Shang against yir qualifier 4 and3 to Shang rinden neck 16 CD has got a buy first round same with carabell Bay the 11 seed kovich over Nisha that is a very big set so Nisha we've just touched on his won his title only a week ago and kovacich with that win 46646 62 over Nisha so let's see how Nisha picks up next week um and see if he can start tracking um from there on in all right cr's a qualifier Galan with that first reset uh first round win four and three TFO a fifth seed with a buy C is the fourth seed with a buy all right Garen over carrat said 4 and two H perale konak is first round AR is a very good win over pel uh 67 that was 47 uh 6463 vukich is the 14th seed with a buy mesh pericard is the ninth seed with a buy a lot of bias going on here rori over coric in three sets opela wild card over Duckworth in three Thompson seven seed buy David H forina eight seed buy now with all of these buys it baffles me somewhat why more qualifies will not allowed more direct entry in contrast to having all of these buys it does not quite add up all right Krueger is a qualifier and he did get a straight sets win over Nardi however second sets 41 so nadis there has retired retirements at this stage um of the event we don't like to see and I've already touched on um around mitigating injuries and why this should not be happening and how it reaffirms that the management of a player's schedule the load on their body is mismanaged from this perspective all right Goffin very good win against Oro Carabelli straight great sets Caballe 10th seed with a bar midon 15th seed with a bar absolutely I think absurd more qualifiers should be getting in on the action beluchi qualifier got a uh straight sets win over McDonald two tight tie breaks Walton um against the qualifier Hong and Hong with a first round win two tie breaks there kakenov is the third seed and he got to buy first round noteworthy is that kov got a silver in to Olympics um from recollection and it's a little bit disappointing I think that he is not partaking in the Olympics although when we're looking at his current ranking and the other players obviously country spe specific ahead of him it is understandable however um he is the defending um medalist for the silver right Marino is the six seed with another bar shapoo with the wild card he did get a very good over or bsta a good one and four um wolf wild card over shaja Lu loser straight sets win aich is the 12th seed with a buy Nakashima 13th seed with a buy oh my goodness oh Connell over Mayo straight set elbow to qualify over deer as acoua straight sets and Shelton is the second seed with a buy there all right we've only got a handful of second round matches that have um gotten underway Nakashima the 13th seed with a straight sets win over o Connell 2 and two and kovich is the 12th seed with his straight sets win over wolf 2 and three the last one I do believe is shapovalov um with a win over the six seed manarino 2 and one it looks like they are all of the action everything else will get underway later today one more we've got two more I can touch on quarter the fourth seed straight set win over gar 3 and two Tio this is actually really good for tiero um over Galan in 3 say that was 67 so 810 63 63 that's a tough win for tier there all right that's all of the action from Washington okay so let's head on over to the rankings that will better explain I think uh what's um unfolded the past week but it won't obviously um touch on the recent results um uh from the last couple of days all right looking at the top 100 golfins back inside uh well he is inside the top 100 but he has taken a 2 regression so he is at 100 all right deer's taking a really big hit there 41o regression so he's at 98 in the world kazuk is back three at 95 okon's back one at 94 McDonald's up four to 93 there's a lot there all right Walton's up 689 very big hit from Altima he's back 16 places to 87 and vit has taken a 25 Point regression to to 85 um that is very substantial there nal's up 5275 a lot of mov Shang 16o progression 263 we' got kofas back 7270 sa both WS up 5 267 menic very good 16o progression 65 now propin has taken a hit 17o regression to 63 dier another Big B 15o progression 62 and Gaston 30 point progression to 61 very substantial there all right there's been a lot of movies this week in those I think those big numbers nishio is another one we've touched on on his title win a 36 point progression to hit the top 50 very very impressive there all right bartini he is nudging closer a 10 point progression to 40 in the world he keeps backing that up top 30 next and top 20 potentially come the end of the season so remember this episode okay Thompson's taking an eighto progression to 33 in the world M's back 131 lectures Back 2 to30 all right TFO is solid at 29 um Sarah Londo 11o progression 226 in the world um Phils is back three 223 C and kova both up one 22 and 21 respectively run is back another one uh to 17 in the world uh remember the discussion on the coach athlete relationship from the very beginning of today's episode all right mati is at 126 Fritz is back 1 to 12 and tipas is up 1 to 11 I do recall both of them slightly shuffling there's only a little bit over 200 points separating the two uh but also between uh Fritz and Paul who was at 13 there's only 90 points separating those two now if you read I think one of my recent articles um it really was sharing that Paul potentially along with Fritz um are highly likely to become Barrier Breakers this season Paul would be a new barer breaker granted both tsipas and Fritz did start the season inside the top 10 deor really is the primary um uh barri breaker so far this season uh whilst we have had players Shuffle in and out we're looking at those New Comers however Paul is having a very impressive season Fritz really has U picked up his form from the beginning of the year and he's reflecting that back obviously we know how well he did um at uh Wimbledon and how he has been tracking all right top 10 has relatively stayed the same um roods back at 9 rubles up at 8 um you've heard what I have shared however about Rives um performances all right everyone else is steady from 7 through to 1 we know unfortunately cner did with withd draw from the Olympics last minute so we do have jovic as uh leading I think the Olympics there followed by El and zarev who is the defending gold medalist and then Mev uh deor did withdraw also last minute unfortunately and did not live up to I think the best of his abilities through the doubles either uh but that's quite noteworthy I have not seen herx in action um at the Olympics yet so I'm pretty sure herca is not in action and let me check that to you um as we talk but no it sounds like or recalls that he was um going to play however um he did not um participate so her did was a late withdrawal when we're looking at his Fitness and he did um have a knee injury leading into the Olympic so that explains that a little bit disappointing so that also why did not see him in action okay that really I think wraps up all of the ction when we're looking at the rankings on both the ATP and wc TOS along as with the results there was a lot to unpack today today's episode is a little bit shorter because there's only one event um really underway um on both the WTA and ATP tours uh but also we were halfway through essentially the three events on
