marks four years since their deaths staff sergeant Jean McCarey acting officer in charge of the New Brunswick RCMP major crime unit will provide operational information regarding the developments inspector Chantal al-sonofara will then speak on behalf of the Kodiak Regional rsap as officer in charge of specialized policing services finally I will share but finally I will share a brief statement on behalf of the Sony family reporters will have an opportunity to ask questions in the language of their choice at the end of the news conference where they will be given the chance to ask foreign Baker the mountain at the job of his own anatom the procedure Canada um foreign foreign foreign foreign foreign foreign good afternoon everybody earlier this morning a 27 year old man was charged in Moncton Provincial Court with two Council first degree murder in connection with the deaths of battle and Jose the man charged as Jansen Brian Baker of mountain he is currently in prison pending court proceedings on several other criminal matters and is currently in custody with the correction Services of Canada the charges late today he is now scheduled to appear in Montauk Provincial Court on September 14 2023. in connection with these murder charges on September 7 2019 the bodies of 78 year old malawsonia and 74 year old Jose were found in their home on amulu Street in India since then the rcmp's major crime unit in the Kodiak Regional RCMP have been investigating their homicides at this time we do not believe there is a direct connection between the Sonia's deaths in 2019 and the other offenses for which Jansen Baker is currently being held I'm extremely proud of the dedication and persistence that was required from investigators over the last four years their expertise and knowledge were instrumental to finding a resolution to this investigation through multiple requests for information from the public interviews and complex investigative techniques we were able to gather enough evidence to lead charges today on the anniversary on the deaths of belnav in the hose magazine this has been an exceptionally complex investigation this was a terrible crime against our two well-loved people since that time our investigators have been persistent in working on bringing to light what led to to Rosemary and donaldsonis murder we hope these charges and the ensuing legal proceedings will bring answers to their family friends and the community this is still considered an active investigation and we are still pursuing leads throughout the investigation we have asked for the Public's help on several occasions that help and support has been instrumental in this resolution if you have information that can assist us on this incident or any other criminal the Kodiak Regional RCMP on behalf of the kodiac Bridgewater CMP I would like to begin by thanking our investigative team for the tremendous work they have done on this homicide investigation which began on this day four years ago on September 7 2019. over the past four years our investigative team comprised of highly trained RCMP major crime investigators forensic experts criminal analysts as well as others from various fields of expertise have been working diligently on finding the truth finding who is responsible for the murder of Rosemary and today two counts of first-degree murder have been laid in Mountain Provincial Court against Jansen Brian Baker understandably with any investigation that takes time there can be feelings such as fear stress frustration which isn't easy to go through as a community like ours but it's normal in this case the murder of our DF residents Shook Up many people who have been asking questions and also providing information in order to piece together what led to this horrific crime we thank you for that because it's by putting all the pieces together all that information that our team was able to bring forward the evidence needed to bring this matter before the courts as you can appreciate there were many complexities in this investigation which took time but ultimately led to where we are today our investigational team comprised of both RCMP officers and civilian RCMP employees have been working with determination and perseverance to find the truth and the evidence of what happened to prove this case I want to stress again that this has been and continues to be an extremely complex investigation we are limited to what we can share at this time in order to protect the Integrity of the investigation and the legal proceedings but rest assured that Public Safety has always been and remains our top priority now I'd like us to take a moment to remember who's married the Sony's were well known in the community they were respected loved by their family and friends and are greatly missed and as the RCMP we will continue our work to bring Justice for the Sonia family in closing if you have any information or if you know anything that could be relevant to this investigation please contact us and find the courage to talk to our investigators thank you declarations only it is foreign on behalf of my family we would like to express our sincerest thanks to all of the investigators and support staff that have worked diligently on this case over the last four years the charges laid today mean that that we are one step closer in getting answers and closure for the deaths of my parents I ask that you please respect myself and my family's privacy during this difficult time questions we will now move into the question period where you will be allowed one question and one follow-up question you mentioned that information and help from the public has been instrumental in this this investigation can you elaborate on that at all there are several please throughout the investigation to public for information most of those were fed out through the media and we did receive some answers to the questions we had had but I can't go to any further for that that's all I can say for now we did receive public assistance and there was support from the community I don't think so okay yes hi I'm Susanna white with global news earlier you said you were still looking for leads what other leads do you need do you believe other people were involved in this the investigation carried on for four years now the matter is not closed it's still under investigation I can't really elaborate on a whole lot where this is going but as it is before the courts that's all I can say that the matter is still under investigation right um the the tie this is a uh Elena pickerel with CTV News why were the charges laid first degree murder why was that decision made well based on the evidence that the investigators have gathered over the years your investigation it was determined that this was a first degree murder matter as a follow-up do we have a motive at this time I can elaborate on motive that'll be part of the uh um because you have circuits girl I'm assuming that Amazon campus ES most part I'm doing later next International goals but later information foreign thank you um because of the time went uh may I ask you to repeat that in English please um yeah just the the investigation took four years it's taken four years now there was many investigative Avenues investigative techniques that were used that led us to today I can elaborate on what those were but those were during the trial procedure foreign specialty with the other specifications as possible you spoke about you know some of the fear of community members have had but you say the investigation is ongoing we won't say though at this point if if there are any others that you may be investigating can you just elaborate with what the community at ease that and perhaps if there are other suspects that maybe yeah I can't really uh speak to specifics about that the investigation is ongoing but it's an ongoing case uh it is before the courts therefore I can't uh I can't elaborate on that anymore and sorry I didn't introduce myself Shane mcbc um just as a follow-up uh can you offer any kind of more specifics about taking the steps that took four years and sort of if there was some kind of change recently that resulted in this charge well the investigation has led us to where we are today with the charges being laid we allowed more than that because any other questions scared Sesame as you can see Betty cancer scary popsicles can I ask you to repeat that in English please yeah I just can confirm that the uh these deaths were linked to the RCP investigation Jay Trilogy which was I drug investigation and maybe just to emphasize that the person who's charged today is linked to the people that were investigated as part of operation J Trilogy so it's not possible accusations I think project you're referring to the network that Jesse Lowe and others were involved correct yes Jesse Lowe network was investigated under the project J Trojan okay just but you mentioned I'll give you your phone oh thank you yeah so would you but you mentioned earlier that the other charges against this individual are not need to be linked to the murder charge that is correct yes including the election shooting of that's correct yes the other the other incidents that that individual is currently before the courts it there's the police do not believe there's any link between those and the charges that are late today um trilogy foreign but the murder did not have a link the the person who was charged today has a link with the network okay that was investigated under Jay trillion and did the murder I'm just I really want to make this clear was this murder linked with that uh my understanding is no it was not there's no direct link there Wisconsin um let me ask you to repeat that in English yes um try to remember what I just said there but just if you could tell us what Jade Trilogy is and give us that context right so again we're out of respect for the uh for the deceased here today we're here to talk about the charges that are linked here today in reference to geratrology uh that uh case is now uh is now complete completed before the courts and uh again there was no there's no direct link between that uh also Timon that's all the time we have today hi just uh just a comment I can appreciate that you have a lot of very good questions we've stressed today that there it's been very complex it's a long time and we appreciate that you understand that we can't answer a lot of questions um because we want to protect the investigation and the court process I'd like to bring a just a Clarity uh because you you've been bringing a few questions on that so Jensen Baker we can confirm that he is linked uh to the people who were investigated in J trilogy but at this time it would be inappropriate to make any further links with this investigation it's still ongoing and it's before the courts trilogy the
