destructive winds have brought down trees closed roads disrupted water supplies and knocked out power to thousands of homes across Tasmania the roughest weather I've experienced in my life uh Wind and Rain uh at times I thought my house was going to blow away but lucky it didn't some wind gusts have been as strong as a category 3 Cyclone Matt Syer for example reported a 187 km gust last night so that's a very extreme and rare wind gust and strong enough to rip off roofs took out some trees and landed on the opposite side of the road taking out the rest of the Street's power Crews across the state are working to restore power and phone lines we're going to be hit uh tonight with more winds I expect more outages this home and Business in delain has been without power for days we're starting to suffer now we getting further behind in the work shop we got young children in the house no water tasmanians have been enduring severe weather for more than 24 hours but authorities are warning residents to remain Vigilant with another front expected to hit the state late tonight delivering destructive winds and rain those living in the DN Valley near Hobart face a long night ahead the worst is to come in terms of flooding the high tide is expected to add to River volumes I've not seen anything like it nothing at all no I've seen the river high but nothing like that it's crazy Caravan Park residents have been moved to Higher Ground trailer loads of stuff that you accumulate when you're permanently in one place um and now I'm waiting for it to flood an evacuation Center has been set up we've got our hot meals and uh hot showers and the evacuation Center is well prepared for this scenario there's a lot of um isolated residents right throughout that area uh we've been doing um proactive door knocking through the morning to make sure people are aware of the danger that it is coming the extent of the emergency won't be known for days J
