binding code of ethics is pretty standard for judges and so I guess the question is is the Supreme Court any different and I guess I have not seen a um persuasive reason as to why the court is different than the other court really boils down to impartiality that's what the rules are about people are entitled to know if you're accepting gifts as a judge um so that they can eval valate whether or not your opinions are impartial now apply that thinking to the Supreme Court Trust in the Supreme Court should be just as essential just as unwavering as your monthly bills it's not a luxury it's fundamental to the functioning of a healthy democracy but right now the lack of an enforcable Ethics code threatens that trust when people see justices accepting undisclosed gifts or going on luxury trips with billionaires it shakes their confidence in the institution
