[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to Comic Book Nation the only show that does it all for Geek culture and the official podcast of comicbook.com I your host Kofi Outlaw and with me today is my co-host Matthew agular and joining us a little bit later will be our third co-host Janelle wheeler but she's got some stuff to take care of today which leaves us to talk about a bunch of things this is going to be one of those classic comic book Nation episodes where we got a truly do it all for Geek culture and we got to break down a lot of things and different fandoms that are going on we will be reviewing Beetle Juice 2 which is out in theaters now we also got First Reactions for Joker 2 that we got to talk about I know Matt inching to talk about some Green Lantern lanterns talk and what's going on with the DCU and its Green Lantern situation plus we got to talk about some new promos for movies what's going on on netf we got a big comic we got to discuss plus Matt's agenda has a lot of things in it from tabletop to wrestling so yeah this is a show where we cover all those things welcome everybody to the live show and uh yeah we got some housekeeping things to talk about um you know it's been a crazy couple of weeks as everybody knows we've been going through a lot of ch ch ch changes over here at comicbook.com uh you know we got tossed out of the shaky boat of Paramount and we have landed at Savage media and uh yeah it's been it's been a kind of weird couple of weeks we've seen a lot of transition we've we've lost quite a few of our co-workers um who have either moved on to New Opportunities or just haven't quite made it in the transition to our new ownership our new plan and our new era as some of you know you know and are just already in the comments referencing because we have a lot of crossover fans between us and our you know cousin our Marvel podcast phase zero yes we lost Jamie j this week um who is you know phase zero snagged her but we really did try in the beginning for the record we we tried really hard to get Jamie j into this show at the time it was during the whole Co era and she had limited microphone access as we all did um and you know we just simply couldn't have her scrambling across town and I believe it was New York or wherever she was living at the time uh to get on but we loved having her on the show whenever she could make it and we loved being a fan of hers over on phze zero and just in general at comicbook.com you know Jamie her personality is everything you see is that's not a performance that is very much Jamie jerak and she's always been a wonderful person you know even at Comic Con this year she made me a nice little like a friendship bracelet that I will now cherish forever now that she's gone in I know that she's going to go I mean I was already just talking to her on the side and rattling off just you know just all the wonderful people I know who were out in La a lot of wonderful ladies I had the pleasure of coming up in this business and getting to work with and collaborate with that are now super duper famous like uh Perry neov shout out to Perry uh who's in everybody's movie theater all the time before your movie starts um just a lot lot of wonderful people and Jam's been out in La doing her thing and really just kind of cracking into the industry learning interviews and coverage and Reporting so I know she'll be all right and um yeah it it's been a hard time for the phase zero gang I can't speak to all that obviously we're a separate gang a separate podcast over here but it has been hard uh just seeing that because this has been a year where we have had a great year in this podcast we've rapidly expanded phase zero was really kind of going through its own Heyday of growth you know ComicCon panel they met Bob Iger like things were going really really really well for them as well and so this is a very hard turn but you know we haven't lost the people the people Brandon Davis is still out there Jamie G is still out there Aaron perine and Jenna are still around and you know I know those guys can do great things things if they want to uh they can make other podcasts they can do all kinds of content stuff because we saw how creative and talented they all are so yeah I'm sorry to all the fans who are fans of this whole Collective we we really tried to build an entire nation of podcast as we always kind of joke with bad puns and dad jokes on this podcast but it's true we want to comic book to offer things to all fandoms um and phas zero was a really really powerful kind of tight fan group over there so we're sorry that you guys are kind of feeling this um you know there's nothing anymore people are asking about a tweet I put up the other day you know that started some Rumblings I saw I see you all the tweeters and deleters I see you but um yeah no that was just about kind of you know guys like this isn't I this is different for me okay like this is very much a different experience for me the truth is and we're not going to weigh down most of this podcast talking about this stuff but the truth is I came through the door at comic book in very much this situation almost eight years ago I left Screen Rant because you know there was a sale I didn't feel like I fit in with a new ownership I had to part ways with that I had to part ways with a podcast I was doing that was getting International recognition we were getting written up in UK Vogue before a lot of you even could spell podcast you know it was a hard time like and you know I've talked to everybody on the side I've told them you know just to learn from some mistakes I made about self-care learning to you know put this all in perspective not to just let it drag down into negativity I didn't do those things the first time around and I had a very hard time personally and so I'm just going through all this and just being glad that experience you know certain pains that I had the first time around there are now like I'm older and I've been through this and I know how to just keep calm and keep on and just take care of yourself and you know in times like this how to go back to things I love my family fandom gaming like all these things that I that I do for a living are also my safety nets and Comforts in times like these deep in some I've been finishing my ninja you know Kazumi in my my hero Academia I'm playing some ghost of shishima finally I'm going back and doing these things that I should have been doing you know and just enjoying myself so when I put up a tweet like that it's just perspective it's just like hey you're going to go through hard times you're going to go through things that feel like everything's falling apart but I'm a big believer in that whole like you don't know the larger plan there's an old African proverb with like every time you know you feel like you're going nor aware just be aware that there's a wind at your back carrying you along like you don't know where you're going to end up and sometimes hard times and dark times take you into places that you didn't even know you needed to be I was so despondent over Screen Rant I came here I didn't have the easiest time at comic book but guess what I landed in Nashville 15 minutes from my parents before I had a bunch of kids my brother had a bunch of kids we all resettled out of nowhere from New York and West Coast now I got a whole family era that I've been living here and you know all of that has really worked out so like I said this is all we're going to talk about this I I hope this is the last time we have to uh do this um you know it's not all bad we can't get into every detail of everything but we actually got some good news this week you know not everything has been Doom and Gloom so we've had some uh good news this week um you know had to make certain About Faces ourselves but in a good way and uh you know we're just happy to be here talking to you guys and still doing this and we're going to keep doing it so because the plan hasn't ever changed you know we don't stress this enough but Matt and I made this podcast to reflect the fact that we have a great staff of people we work with this is meant to always be a platform and showcase for all those personalities we were tired of seeing the Jamie JX the Evan Valentine's the Megan Peters the Logan Moors you know all these people we have on staff and all these personalities just behind a desk and N are out here getting to talk to you guys so we're going to keep doing that because we still have a wonderful staff and you know there are some things changes are tough but there are things in this new era to be excited about like there are certain things that are coming down the pike that are exciting and boy for you longtime fans I'm talking to everybody who's been with me since like the screen ran underground days I got some there gonna be some wild things that you guys see happen in the next few weeks that are going to blow your mind so just stay tuned okay stay tuned and just hang in in there all right and no no the the shirts were a gym live and not the only oneor got one yeah I mean if you got one that was that was like the little the little kind of Sizzle that Jim had to sell that Li on but uh yeah you know we do not honor anything Jim vardi ever said on this podcast any longer so uh that's one of those old era things there are no gym promises here anymore so that's right we did read your review man we need to do that we to do that again we need to read some reviews we haven't done that in a while we'll figure out so we don't have shirts but we should do something we'll figure out something I'll give like from my personal stash of cool stuff like I I I'll find stuff and we'll send it because that was fun I remember doing that it was such a like a need much needed upbeat portion of the day I mean you know we didn't read the negative ones oh yeah oh reviews yeah yeah oh oh no we've only gotten better in reviews yeah we should yeah we're going to go back you know you know what guys it's a new era we're going to take it back to some SE season one things Jim's in the comment he's offended Jim we're not honoring your you don't go to the school anymore Jim we're not honoring your promises you don't go here also I still sold your tobogan promise some there are people waiting for toan's gy so oh my God you disappointed a lot of people and they're gonna be very cold this winter without they are very cross very cross that you indeed um all right so now we're back in the spirit of this show it sounds like we're back doing what we do and let's get back to it um yeah like I said hopefully guys this will be the last time we got to address any serious oh God what no no no actually I saw it in the comments and so I actually did want to address that because that was another thing that has been kind of um uh in limbo and Damon brought up the weekly comic reviews um oh yeah so uh some good news on that front the plan is for them to return next week and we had to you know figure out some things uh and essentially a team of very uh dedicated seab beers are keeping that alive and so that will be returning uh hopefully next week fingers cross everything goes well uh next week we will be bringing that back so we took a two- week break uh but hopefully that is coming back so yeah that tradition can continue just with a little you know little Gap so yeah and um Matt doesn't know this but I have plans to take that whole comic review things fold it into the poll list and we're going to have some conversations about you know we do have a whole show dedicated to Comics you know every time we start fretting about these things I'm in the background like guys we do have a whole show dedicated to this you know we could talk about it if you want to talk about it so we're gonna make sure that the PLL list also we're GNA do some me and mat are G to talk in behind the scenes and we're g to tweak that so that we can pull some of that comic review goodness into our podcast and have our podcast feedback into some of the comic book goodness on the site so you know this plans guys we got plans so stay tuned all right let's get into the show uh starting right up top with our review of the day which I forgot to put a trailer into but uh you know you guys know what it is it's Beetlejuice 2 so my review for Beetlejuice 2 just went live on comicbook.com I gave it three out of five stars oh if you've been listening this you know you guys know I'm a hardcore Beetlejuice fan like Janelle wheeler we are both big Beetle juu fans she has going to see it tonight so I'm sure she'll thoughts for you guys uh in the coming weeks as we kind of unpack all this but my non-spoiler review of Beetlejuice 2 is that it's a three star for me because in its essence you know Beetle Juice one and it's such a funny thing that Nostalgia is right you begin to remember this movie so fondly and it just becomes this staple of like Halloween or whatever in your mind but you forget until you start like looking at the sequel and going back to the original and it's long way to sequels like this that have to like go back to that world that remind you like yeah Beetlejuice is a movie that is one of its kind there's a reason that's never been remade or anything like it is because it is absolutely oneof a kind it's so weird it's so demented and it's so borderline inappropriate most of the time in most every way that it's a miracle that I mean it's a cocaine 80s movie all the way there was somebody in a face full of Scarface powder who was like that sounds great oh this demon dude tries to marry a teenager great you know happy couple dead great uh this vision of the afterlife where your death is the defining quality of who you are in the afterlife you know what I mean like none of that Soul let's just toss out every religion thing about your soul and blah blah blah no you die and you go to the afterlife in the stupid way you died right whether you saw it in half or like whatever like all of these things would get canceled on Tik Tok before they got out the door to a film script you know what I mean so Beetle G1 is such a weird animal that getting back into it is almost kind of jarring because our sensibilities have been changed so much that when Michael Keaton starts jumping on the screen and starts saying weird crazy things making sex jokes and doing all this other stuff that like he makes a really dirty sex joke like and it's one of those like double on Tandra things and you're like wait what oh like it's just it it's almost jarring but it's the best part because it reminds you that Tim Burton is a one-of-a-kind filmmaker in all his kind of demented fun ways I think where I'm very interested to see the split on people who don't really watch the original because I heard I stayed outside the theater after our screening and I listen to people and people who have never really seen or liked the original Beetle Juice or really connected with it were far more kind of into this this movie than the longtime fans because it offers you that Vision again if You' haven't seen that vision of the afterlife this kind of weird demented silly world that Tim Burton is making with all these weird flavors and tones this this was their introduction to that and they and they liked it and that's they're into it yeah longtime fans are having harder trouble with it because it's not as simple anymore like there's a lot and I write about this kind of focuses my review is like called it life is too heavy for deathly fun like Tim Burton's older now right everybody in this cast is older everybody's been through life experiences and not all those things are like fun or funny and it's hard to get to older age and still be like into some 1980s Gothic Gen X romance about death and the beauty of death and all of that right so there's a lot of the mess of emotional mental mess that's on the screen in this it's a lot to have three different generations of Deets women you know you got deia Katherine orara Lydia Monona Ryder and astd Jenna Ortega and it's clear to me that like Tim Burton is obviously working things out I mean deia is the most connected because he's older now it's about what happens when you're older you start to lose people you struggling and remain artistically relevant when changing times when the kidss think you're just an old person Lydia is clearly like you know Gothic Old Timber bur now a parent now older kind of The Angst of all that who am I what am I going through am I adult how do I form adult relationships like all that stuff and weirdly enough the thing for me that kind of dropped the most is Jenna Ortega's astd is so kind of a muted character in this she's almost like a plot device and it just feels like Tim Burton doesn't really have a connection to the Youth of today like she probably gave him all the notes on like what kids are doing and all that because this movie doesn't really feel like it knows anything to do with her or form a character out of her like we got with like Lydia in the first film who was obviously this Gothic Oddball so there's too much going on in this movie that is all to say too many plot lines too many characters Justin thoro and Monica beluchi being these romantic interest for Beetlejuice and Lydia are just completely things you could have taken out of this movie and really affected very little but in that kind of overwrought mess are still so many fun things whenever Kens on the screen like we are cooking we're we are so back those scenes with Beetlejuice and they are about 20 minutes or less just like the original film but every scene he's in every sequence he kind of runs it's it's scary how good Michael Keaton is just slipping back into that character and not at all being Michael Keaton or Michael Keaton playing Beetlejuice it just is Beetlejuice again and that's the funniest thing about how time has changed but Beetlejuice is still basically the same like he hasn't changed at all and that's hilarious and uh yeah there's just some standout things in this movie William defo does not get enough credit William defo was fny was so funny and it's a weird as side he kind of is this little side scene character that we keep visiting but he's hilarious in it and he steals every scene he's in and of course Bob the shrunken head guy Bob um becomes a major scene stealer that I know Matt's gonna love I can already see Matt lighting up at that but yeah Bob is like a you know this is the summer of like weird little side characters from original movies becoming bigger things I mean Bob and Reggie from Bad Boys are arguably two MVPs of this whole kind of uh cinematic year so it was it was uh good when the highs are high and there aren't really lows it's just kind of like there are some serious Bor like parts that are going to come off to you as boring because it's dealing with serious life stuff serious drama and we're like we're not here for that let's get back into the Afterlife and see Danny veto pop up as a crazy janitor you know that's what we want to see so after all this weight I think the weirdest thing is it's okay you know it's not the grand Milestone and it's not a grand failure it's okay like it's an okay movie and I'll be see anxious to or curious to see how it goes over time with people who either have more time to kind of let this like simmer and establish itself and people who are are getting into the franchise because of this filmm but uh overall it's okay it's pretty and it's pretty okay so you know there you go all right I think we got a special guest let's get her in [Applause] here here back again all right all right Janelle Wheeler's here welcome Janelle uh we were just doing a semi-serious thing updating everybody on all the serious comic book stuff and you know reassuring everybody and I just finished my spoiler-free review of beetle juu 2 and uh we're going to be curious about what you think and I know you're going to see the movie seeing it tonight cool and we're gonna be really excited say yeah so all right we will be back uh soon with Jay's thoughts on Beetle Juice too so that's it uh now that you're here Janelle you can take the next story that's great you're just in time I know what perfect timing was that that was great holy smokes oh my God I'm doing the Joker reaction I'm so excited about this okay because when I first saw the show notes I noticed that somebody else was going to be talking about this and I went oh man I'm like I'm surprised they didn't put me in for this so it looks like the Joker reactions are in um and I am so curious what everybody's going to think about this um and I actually have not done a lot of digging because the spoilers freak me out I just don't want to know if it's if if Harley is an imagination thing like a figment of imagination or not I'm so nervous I'm going to run into like that spoiler um so I've been avoiding it so I'm actually like I'm reading this article with you guys right now because i' I really have been I oh man I'm gonna be so uh scared about this but okay so it prepared at uh the 81st Venice film festival and I'm seeing that they I guess like so it is being considered a musical a semi Musical is what they're calling it interesting that's weird because I've heard that they weren't calling it a musical like they were like no we can't call it a musical because it's and they were kind of like weird about that but I guess they've decided to call it a semi musical whatever that is it looks like a love story to me I don't know it's interesting uh nobody has actually walked away with the definition of this right that I can actually like Center in on and like okay nail down what is yeah and you know I think that's good as J Jones over on YouTube is saying like true art should be divisive it should rattle some kind of opinion on you the only thing you don't want to do is be boring be forgettable and be there so I don't have any after the first film and the more time goes on the more I'm fascinated with Joker because I listen to other podcasts other other people in the industry and it is so shocking how much this film series divides people people wow like people are like either scary about it like me or they're like so against it like they've been hit with like dramatic Paws I was like did my internet go wait did you freeze us no or they're just like acting like this is some kind of like you know stinky stuff on their shoe and they can't go near it with a 10- foot pole and there doesn't seem to be any Middle Ground I don't meet a lot of people like eh it was all right kind of people who were just like eh Joker's there but um that's how I feel really yeah oh you feel like it's just there I'm just kind of like yeah I mean I didn't really need a second one but like I have respect for the first one I'm like I see what you guys are doing it's good like I I think it's a good film have I watched it more than once no I will it's like not something that I'm like oh my God I got to see that again um but yeah I I think the mental health as aspect is so it's scary to me because I feel like we're kind of at a time in the world where Mental Health crisis is like all over the place and it stay out of Pennsylvania yeah it it like scares me because it feels so like plausible like it could you know some this this could happen and uh it you know it's not like it's not a fun you know magical superhero film anymore like and it's not like a a comic book anymore like it feels like people like this kind of exists already in our world so that's kind of what freaks me out what I'm curious about is is it is it very similar to the first film or is it quite a departure that's because it seems like it would be a big departure with the music aspect but when I'm looking at the trailer and things it seems very much this like it it flows well it seems like the two go hand in hand really well together I think I feel like from everything I've seen everything I've seen from the cast talking and everything I've seen from the reviews I feel like the first film was a very much a reaction to Society at the time in the late 2010s and everything we were going through and I feel like this one enters a new meta level where this film is reacting to people's reaction of the first film so I feel like this movie is kind of weirdly answering back to people in the whole dialogue about the first film but is also going to like Joker you know tap in our face with it quite literally as you know the chaos the murder the burning you know the mental health of it all continues to kind of mushroom out like it's going to be laughing in our face about it being like yeah you criticized it and I feel like again like that courtroom scene people are like talking about oh this is boring it has a courtroom scene it's drama like it's mixing drama it's like I feel like that whole thing is a meta joke about you know we're sitting here criticizing Joker but we're still sitting here watching in Joker right like at the same time and that's kind of what his speech is to everybody in the room it's like you know Screw you you're not going to look away you all you people you're like you're all in on this and so Todd Phillips and people say this about his work and he's they're right he is a mean-spirited director he I don't think he's a director who loves his audience and loves entertaining us I think he's always been a director that loves showing us the ugly side of us and putting it in our face and be like and you and you e will eat this slop and watch it like like if you've ever seen that movie due date I remember the controversy of like because after The Hangover movies the first thing he did was due date and it had Robert Downey Jr in it and he played such an [ __ ] in that movie Zach galanakis and Robert Downey Jr and people were like what the hell this movie like it's more mean than funny and I oh man uh shout out to uh my buddy Ben Kendrick uh who we still had the one of the best biggest podcast arguments of all time about Project X which Todd Phillips did not direct but he produced he gave a bunch of people it's that teen Coming of Age film in the 2000s where they just gave a bunch of kids a bunch of cameras and filmed like a huge party and you know what like we had one of the biggest arguments about what that movie was saying about youth culture if it was nice if it was mean-spirited so I like Todd Phillips always has that rap and is going to always have that rap but I'm not scared of it I'm just gonna be like I said I am so excited for us to just have the discussions about this yeah that's true that's a good point that was a good Joker Laugh I heard that I heard what you did there Matt that was good it was good I try I try to I try to do my part you know Matt you want to take the next one because I know you're excited about this you know it's funny I I did not start off excited about this but uh as time has gone on I'm getting more uh I'm thinking about it more so over the last earlier this week actually uh there was some big DC uh Studios news now none of this has been confirmed by DC Studios and James gun hasn't even done one of his like shooting down the rumor things on social media I was kind of waiting for that to happen but uh there is been a a report that Josh Brolin uh is has essentially been offered the role of how Jordan in the lantern series that is coming uh to DC Studios that one the rumor is that essentially like he's been offered the part uh he hasn't accepted it yet and that's why it was interesting that a second report followed soon after uh where it was like Hey if he ends up turning this down there are two other actors all three high-profile right uh in Matthew mcconahay and Ean McGregor that if Brolin turns it down those would be like alternate choices and so that's three big names uh for for how Jordan uh and also three interesting names if you know who how Jordan is in in the comics uh now what I will say is that you know the synopsis has four lanterns has kind of made it clear right we're going that very like True Detective route uh this is going to be an older now they never say exactly how old in the synopsis they say he's going to be older than John Stewart and also that he is kind of referred to as a lantern Legend so he's like achieved that status so you go okay well he's a little older he's not the typical Hot Shot how that we you know maybe see in other things where like he's the starting character this is really seems to be more from the point of view of of John Stewart and then how is gonna be kind of this veteran presence there um but you know all of these actors are in their 50s and so it does kind of it I think it it kind of shocked a lot of people that like oh we're going for that kind of much of a of a gap between um and and it is been interesting because like you wouldn't necessarily associate that with how unless you're talking about you know when he went nutso and like you know started killing a bunch of people that was that was you know gray-haired uh how Jordan and things like that paralex how Jordan and that's what a lot of people jump to and me included and be like okay well that would be interesting but it it's just it's got a lot of thoughts um before I go into a giant you know die dve uh what do you guys think about you know this casting um as far as like do you do you like the approach do you think any of those three or all three of those are good fits like what do you guys feel about this yes I do agree Jim it needs more Cy Rainer there's been no me we have three of the four Earth lanterns so far mentioned by DC Studios no Kyle guy Gardner's already cast Nathan filan's playing him and now we have John Stewart of course in how uh where's Ma just just throwing that out there the most important one the best one has yet to Dylan O'Brien get Dylan O'Brien as Kyle rer um but uh yeah I mean out of all these people Josh Brolin makes the most sense to me if you're going to do like a an older Hal Jordan which I'm not opposed to because you know how Jordan has like you said when he started getting those white tips then all of a sudden we got parallx and and all of that it's also interesting to see you know they're still and James gun has put out vibes of Kingdom Come being a thing in this universe and you know there's an older how Jordan that's kind of in the Kingdom Come vein like we know there's there's been visions of where that character can go when he's older um I'd be interested to seeing I hope that we do have like these lanterns and that this is kind of like a police Corps that has you know secrets and coverups and there were times that like things happen and we don't have to go through these arcs but we can be in a time when they've happened you know what I mean where how's a legend publicly but like inside the corridor like this dude almost blew up the battery he went nuts once yeah um I hope we deal with John Stewart in the big kind of defining tragedy he goes through in his service in all of that and so I'm really interested to see that I'd also love to see you know because we do always do this kind of very clean pretty boy version of lanterns but these are dudes who are spending years traveling through deep space constantly fighting conflicts settling things and examining that as veteran police officers is is an interesting take that I would I would like to see like rookie cops versus the longtime veterans and and what they're like uh I would like to see that take and and I hope that we kind of get into that in how obviously for that sector would be one of the veteran cops and so I I think that would be an interesting Dynamic to see and if he's already been through some things it also continues to raise question about the DCU in general about where we're aiming for this because you know we keep getting youngish type vibes from something like Superman who may be like middleaged or something but we're gonna be bet with Batman who after Batman's already in his daddy era and conceivably has a bunch of robins under his belt and the bat family is there so you know these Heroes have been through some stuff and we're kind of jumping into this universe fully formed so I I'm really curious to continue to see for these main Justice League Heroes like who we get cast and like what age range we're kind of going with yeah it does seem like we are skewing aside from Superman himself like we're skewing a little bit older which again that's a I'm not against that at all I just it just seems like a I mean typically right this is sinestro's role Sinestro and how like Sinestro is the one that brings you know like they're the buddy cop thing right because Sinestro is viewed as the legend he's the greatest Lantern of all time and that's when Hal comes in all hot shoty and then realizes like oh you're like a tyrant you're like holding down your own place over here and like you're a dictator and that that's how that all falls apart so like the fact that we've now put how in that place is interesting I I don't I hope we also don't lose some of that but again I it's this is not doubt in James gun I know he's got all these pieces accounted for I'm just from The Limited information that we have it's not exactly where I saw things going um but that's not a bad thing Brolin's a great actor and in this style of role this like older cop you know seen some things whatever he would kill that I just didn't in my brain see like an older how is like like you know this much of an older how is kind of part of this equation all of these three are great actors Janelle do you like I mean do you like any of these three in the in the part more than the other uh I mean I like Brolin I think think um just for exactly what you said like if if that is kind of the direction they're going with this this version uh then I I do love him I mean I think he'll be fantastic I kind of do like an older uh Hero set I kind of I like that we're kind of doing something less expected with the DC you know franchise and everything that's going on because we've had like I don't know we've had so many like Young Guns in the MCU that I don't know I just I trust James gun right now and and his vision of making it all fit together somehow and I'm just trying to kind of like release myself to the process like I'm trying to just kind of not get ahead of myself and worry too much and so when I do hear any news DC in in this new James gun era I actually get really excited about it um and I tend yeah I tend to not really get jaded feeling cuz I'm tired of feeling that way about my DC projects so I I'm choosing I'm choosing to be happy about this like I'm choosing to see the bright side and like and Trust the process that's kind of where I'm at yeah agreed uh Kofi are you feeling similarly optimistic about our next um oh oh yeah we're gonna get next I wanted to address some uh questions from the chat first of all nerding podcast shout out to distance nerding but that's an alltime great comment for all yeah Matthew mcc's uh Green Lantern you know what his uh oath would be truly Next Level comment there black is day in black is day and black is not it's gonna be all right all right all right God pleas um yeah and uh there was another thing oh people asking where are we live on YouTube so we have a comicbook.com all onew comic book YouTube channel but we also have a comic book Nation channel uh comic book one word dnation and that's where we at so if you want to gets with us that's where we's at so goes there okay um back to the subject yes we've had a bunch of teasers drop this week uh you know you can watch a teaser for The Wolf Man you can watch another pengin promo I won't I'm already I'm already locked in so I won't but you can and we also had a teaser for the Minecraft movie uh one of the movies that will rule my son's life uh next year so you know from the world of Roblox here we are uh so we got the Minecraft movie trailer and it was uh it was actually you know unexpectedly pretty cute it it's uh it's pretty cute it's uh it's basically Jumanji those new Jumanji movies only with or the Super Mario movie with Minecraft uh a bunch of real world people played by crazy looking Jason mimoa Danielle Brooks from Orange is the New Black and a couple of younger actors that you probably know but I don't all end up in a Minecraft world uh the whole key to this is whether you know does this movie achieve the magic of making us feel like we're in a Minecraft game and I feel like for the most part this trailer says yeah it does you know we are going to be in Minecraft and see a bunch of Staples of Minecraft that again I don't know but you know my kid knows back and forth and this looks like it does it in the cast I have I have faith in the cast mimoa looks like he's gonna be chewing scenery yeah like like after fast X this is the Jason Mamoa I want I don't want any serious roles I don't need any Aquaman though in Aquaman when he starts getting crazy is the best part when he's going nuts and just being silly and Aquaman you know talking about drinking his own PE and stuff um but yeah after fast X and Dante like I want to see Jason will always just be flamboyantly nuts and go crazy in movies because it's funny I mean Jack Black anchoring this is a great sign that Jack Black is gonna be Steve and Danielle Brooks is a really great actress from Orange is the New Black the color purple and I think she'll help ground some of this but the effects and the design and all of that it it's it looks like Minecraft they've achieved the look of the world and I think they're's going to be fun to play in so I mean I remember how we all felt when this movie was announced but we all felt that way about a bunch of these movies that were announced and then Super Mario Brothers came through and killed it and now gaming movies I don't automatically assume Doom when I see a gaming movie come along especially these kind of familyfriendly ones i' I've had to go to a couple of these and I've had uh I've had a lot of fun so I'm not gonna hate on this if you're looking for hate on the Minecraft movie you come to the wrong place I hate more on the Minecraft game than on this movie I will say like I was in when this dropped on Twitch and obviously I have a lot of gamer Pals that play Minecraft and are fans of Minecraft and they were like coming in right and left going Janelle did you see the trailer Janelle did you see the trailer I'm like I haven't seen it yet should we play it and they're like don't watch it it's horrible it's awful don't even acknowledge it ignore the whole thing never even lay your eyes on it and I was going I okay this must be terrible and then I watched it and I thought it was adorable so I'm I'm so confused I wonder if the kind of core adult side of fandom hate this because it's too pure wholesome cutesy wootsy um it's more geared towards children I wonder if like the adults who play this game who are big fans of this game are just like I hate this I I that's just the sense that I got from my own Community like that's the idea that I got but I think it looks I think it looks so stinking cute yeah I think it's an unfortunate thing of just following so closely the Borderlands and and also seeing like like Jack Black I will watch Jack Black in anything but I also felt that about Borderlands because I'm oh he's clap trapped that's amazing that's brilliant right and then that movie turned out to be like a gigantic misfire and so you see this and you go oh man I hope that's not it but I but I agree with you actually it's uh I love overthe toop Jason Mamoa I think it's I think it's great uh I think they got the Aesthetics right like the way the world looks all the little creatures the it's I think they got that right also casting Jack as Steve is I think brilliant because he gets now to be in like almost every scene you get to see him this dis shoveled version of Steve it's it's great I think that's a blank canvas right so yeah I think uh I think this is good but I agree this will probably I mean this will probably as most adaptations do these days we'll piss off a bunch of people uh you know the you know the same the same discourse we get into with a lot of it feels like especially gaming centered adaptations uh there will be a lot of people like this is not my Minecraft and then for all of us we'll go and buy all the merch so that's that's how it is but yeah well should I throw it on over to the next thing because this is another thing that will piss people yeah why not that's what all I did was just load this up with grenad I it me off specifically and I love that you chose me for this because okay well let's just let's just get to it all right guys so um a new animated show is coming to Netflix and it is it is your favorite sparkling vampire um Yes you heard that right Midnight Sun from the Twilight series is coming to Netflix in its own series um and it's going to be an animated series and newes just kind of has like okay let me start with this I was a huge Twilight fan okay I was that sucker I had just graduated college I was in my first corporate job sitting in a cubicle miserable out of my mind escaping into the world of Twilight and re like just rekindling my youth um I loved it right it was great so naturally many many years later when this new book midnight sun came out I thought oh this is going to be spectacular like this is going to bring me back this is going to be such a throwback it's going to feel so great and be so happy like I want to feel those like warm and Squishy feelings again um and I got this book I could not read it I tried for months months guys I did not give up I I labored through this book until halfway through every night trying to read just a couple Pages it was so I don't know if it's because I'm an adult now but it is just so cringy and pathetic I cannot I so if you guys don't know what this is midnight sun is basically the exact same story just told from the perspective of Edward colen instead of Bella so it's just so cringy it is so cringy he is is like this aching like he's like I love her but I want to eat her oh this is so hard I I am crazy about I can't tell her what I'm really thinking oh my God this get that I mean that's how I feel most of the times I threaten most of the women in my house to say I would love to eat them but I'd miss them so I can I tell my daughter that every day I'd love to eat you all up but then I'd have none no more left I believe it this book I don't like I said maybe it's just my perspective because I'm an adult but you're coming like I am promise you I'm is coming from a fan this I was a fan a big fan of Twilight I was on American Idol and they said who's your celebrity crush I said freaking Edward colen like I didn't even use his actor name um it it was I'm telling you I'm anyways I'm not excited about this we need to pull that out up as a gift we need that yeah it's I don't I'll try to find it for you I also said I'd be a pelican if you could be any animal I was like I'd be a pelican because I'd put my cell phone in my beak and fly away I don't know I was a child guys I was a kid I was 22 years old amazing oh my God I know I agree chrison we need the book now uh narrated by Janelle she has to do like an audiobook version like or comment we'll do special comic book Nation commentary I love her man but I want to eat her man and I'm gonna Sparkle in the sun anyways I just I think Twilight has come and gone it's had its time I don't know why we're doing this maybe we're just trying to get in I mean even the whole vampire Revolution it's over guys it's okay we've we've moved past it maybe you're trying to have get Blade movie but we can get this exactly thank you Kofi my yeah that perfectly said so anyways I'm not excited about this but um I am totally going to try to watch it just to like dog on it oh yeah I'm totally watching it by the way yeah like I I even brought this up to Ana who was also a huge fan of the Twilight books and I said hey what's your opinion on this and she went nope I said is that is there any more and she goes nope and then she also said though when does it come out though and I said this time and she went I'm gonna watch it but no I was like yeah that's about right and that's why they're making it because we're all gonna watch it and a bunch of Twilight fans are gonna be like this time I'm gonna put it down I'm not going to I'm not going to suffer through it if it isn't good first episode Done not going back I'm not going G to waste my life on it like I did the book here Joker Joker courtroom scene looking more and more on point yeah amen a gonna watch it um did you guys uh I I sent you a secret slack about somebody I'm watching it right now you guys go ahead all right we're gonna take a break but when we come back we're gonna we're gonna throw in a little something into this mix because another trailer I finally looked at and I was like oh no we got to look at that so we're going to take a break when we come back we're going to talk about uh another trailer a com and a bunch of and a bunch of Matt agenda of course it is what else would I send you [Music] a [Music] [Music] all right all right so you guys have had enough time on the break to do your homework and watching the trailer for Universal's Newman movie which is coming to us by way of Lee one of the creators of the saw and Insidious franchise longtime collaborator with uh James Juan and the director of the vastly underrated Invisible Man remake there's been this whole kind of push to take these Universal monsters After Dark Universe fell apart and Tom Cruz and them were scattered for the winds Universal has started to do updates of its Universal monster properties and invisible man came out and it came out if I remember correctly I'm trying to see what year that was yeah the Invisible Man it was 2020 so it was like right in the pandemic and it got swallowed up in all of that yeah February it was like weeks before the pandemic that movie came out um but was was pretty good hit it made 145 million on 7 million but more importantly Lee wiell figured out you know how to just take strip down everything take the core concept of that Universal monster and really make it something into a horror metaphor for like you know toxic relationships um toxic masculinity all of that stuff that we were dealing with in a postmo era and this was like a timely in resonant horror movie it was a timely horror movie and it really really nailed it in Elizabeth Moss and and the cast of that Oliver Jackson from from House of Haunting of Hill House and all that it was good and we were like oh maybe you can do stuff with these Universal monsters that is interesting and timely and relevant and getting back to Real Horror which is Real Horror is supposed to be a metaphor right like it's supposed to be a metaphor for things in real life that that scare us so this is The Wolf Man and I'm sold again like I feel like Le wiell is doing it again I feel like this is a movie that's not going to cost too much money that it's going to be you know stripped down again but still Nails the point of like what the horror is of this which is taking it and making a metaphor for you know the harsher darker sides of a dad right of a parent who can have you know the dual-sided nature of being a sensible compassionate protector but also having that rage that anger you know even that violence that can be terrifying to children and stuff and I can tell you brother this speaks to me because this is a I mean this is a hard balance I I've been joking all the time about you know somehow in Raising a Son and making him get the right things to do in life as a man it's like I've had to go back and do work on myself somehow like you know even just finding that balance between you know the dad that supports him and the dad that's an authority figure or scary to him scary dad is you know it's a big deal and you spend a lot of time especially shout out to all my boy dads uh you spend a lot of time up at night just thinking about this line because you know people will start to have opinions about if you're too hard if you're too soft you know what kind of manhood you you know all this stuff so this movie looks like it's going to speak to that and uh I dig it it seems like it's going to be a single night single setting single night Thriller you know Dad gets scratched becomes Wolf Man and kids have to survive dad and find out way to maybe get Dad back or you know take out dad either way I think I'm gonna leave from this feeling some kind of way and uh it has Julia Garner from Ozark uh Christopher Abbott who uh I don't think anybody really knows he was just in um he's in Martha Marcy May marleene he's in a bunch of other stuff he's in that Cronenberg movie uh the little kenberg movie but he's been in a couple things and he's he's good and I think he'll be good as the dad and uh yeah it's gonna be interesting to see this but what you guys think of the teaser because it's out now and I know you guys are mad at me because I made you watch something scary so that was actually really frightening it was funny because I watched it during our commercial break so it's was like like our music from the podcast in the background I was thankful for that because it was keeping me a little light-hearted um it actually looks really good at being scary like it it's actually very scary looking and kind of gory I guess at times like I saw like a hand reach for a knife and like blood and like gross things GH um not my favorite type of film but I could see why people would be excited about this uh this is one big giant trigger warning for me uh I not this I will not be seeing this it looks amazing for people who like to torture themselves I'm fine I'm I'm cool with it don't be scared of your inner wolf n n bro the first time I heard Daddy I went no screw this I hate him I cannot believe he made me watch this trash um I did watch what is a quiet place I watched a a quiet place the the one the day one yeah Kofi and I thought of you I watched it yesterday and I had nightmares all night and that's like very not this so yeah this look super intense yeah like way more intense than that again no shade on the quality I I am not shading anything I loved Invisible Man Invisible Man was fantastic so like again like I I love the the being inventive with the franchise and the characters all power to you I will be skipping this one because I can't handle this I can't handle that trailer that is like sending me all I saw grab the knife I missed that the first time when he grabs the knife oh yeah no no bro can't can't do that sorry that's what I was talking about yeah I saw I was like because I was wondering I was like what is she talking about and then I went oh that made my hand hurt oh oh yeah yeah yeah all right so I instantly regret that let's move on Matt we have a comic to talk about yes and we get uh we get actual uh comic talk with all three of us cuz all three of us oh my God y have read this issue so uh we actually T we we mentioned this on the pool list because we were like no no we gotta wait because we were running out of time we like we got to give this issue it's due we've been talking about this for for a while now feels I know it's just 12 issues but it feels like we've been talking about this book for so much longer and that is the Penguin Tom King's Penguin series uh you know even before now I know you know HBO penguin is kind of taken all the attention and and deservedly so but you know I feel like the penguin Renaissance really started with this series uh and and like they've been doing so amazing things in this book and so finally the end is here and we've touched we've touched upon this during previous issues of like it's been a long time since we've actually checked in to where this book began and the book set the stage for everything of like hey Batman and Oswald are like sitting in the Bat Plane sitting in the batbat and it's in the water and it's sinking and they're about to die and all of that is established in the first issue and then we maybe checked back in on that twice I think two maybe two times during the rest of the 12 issues and then it's like are we ever gonna get back to that and voila this whole issue is like setting the stage of okay now you find out what happened what led to that moment and now we're back in the present and so it's this one is like I mean obviously they have to do a lot in this issue there's a lot of tying up of loose ends resolving you know some of the some of the kind of drama between the different players in the space but the core of it a big chunk of this issue is just kind of a Big action-packed Thrill Ride you're watching Batman just mow through through a bunch of thugs that are after penguin and it's you know got these kind of these big Falls and and Batman's kind of narrating it so it's just there's a lot going on here but this one in particular is kind of just a big throw ride for about half of it and then you kind of the second half is really just about tying up all the Loose Ends um Kofi I'm very intrigued because I mean we've been back and forth on this a lot we' both love the series but we both had questions of can you land the plane with just one issue left to do all this what do you think do you think they did it yeah I think it was pretty miraculous I'm sorry I'm I'm watching the new penguin trailer teaser for the max Series yeah um but no I was I was like well Tom King you did it you pulled it off and they pull it off pretty confidently it feels like there was always a plan for this it doesn't feel like rushed you feel like everything kind of comes together in a weird sort of way even things like with uh what's his name black spider or whatever his name is like and all bringing that all back around and the help and everything we kind of went through Lisa like his wife like all of it comes back around and and the trick was to this was showing that penguin is a kind of Mastermind chess player right that was the whole thing of whether you could pull this off and they do they do pull it off and I like that it's back to the kind of format of the first issue which was the first issue didn't take us inside of Oswald very much at all it was everybody else around him that whole issue was everybody else's inner monologue about him and I liked that we also came back around to that storytelling advice like or storytelling device that it's all narrations by people who are around penguin reflecting on who he is and ultimately having him kind of come to view and being seen as who he truly is in this and they do a good job of doing that from a lot of angles who he is as a dad who he is as a husband you know why his wife is repulsed by him but then also attracted to him um you know who he is as a gang leader and kind of a criminal mastermind and who he is to bman um and we even get like the punch line of the whack walk walk walk which is yeah yeah that's good which has become that stupid thing from the penguin which has become you know this whole new other thing that reflects his duplicit and and the false faces so yeah they hit all the points and they landed the plane and it's uh it's pretty miraculous that we did that yeah and this is going to be a killer trade now what did you think because you've you've I know you've read past issues but like been a minute since you checked back in so you know coming back to this and especially this issue and everything that's kind of happening in the present what did you think of this and do you kind of want to go back and read the rest or or was that enough for you oh yeah like they definitely sold me because I don't know like the context of why Batman's saving him or like why why so many people are after him like I don't know all of that but just the relationship between the two of them in this specific book is so intriguing and uh enlightening for me because I really don't know much about penguin in the comics I know penguin obviously from like our old like our old school like Batman TV show when I was little Meredith yeah like all of that stuff B Meredith is a legend though yeah um so yeah I I feel like is not just something that I'm interested in reading but I think it's kind of almost required reading for me to go back and really like understand the story a little bit more because I need to understand penguin more and it will only help me kind of understand the new HBO Max series that's coming out so um yeah I do feel like I only know one type of I I know one penguin and it's like from the Batman movies back throwback in the 90s like that's that's my penguin so um I do find this very intriguing and I think they did a beautiful job um of like showing he did a beautiful job of like seeing the two of them bouncing off of each other and yeah it feels like the plot thickens that's how it feels for me yeah penguins uh I what's funny is like obviously they take place in you know completely different worlds right Batman's kind of developed its own its own penguin and Colin Ferrell's done such a good job but they could what's awesome about this is that the that they could live in the same world there's a lot of carryover and it and it's just because I feel like King found a really rather Timeless depiction of Oswald and so it you know the fact that one is taking place in a movie over here and they're doing other things doesn't really remove what I feel like is actually going to make this kind of stick around as one of those alltime penguin stories of like do you want to get an idea of that character here's a trade and it's gonna be this what this is going to be one of those books for that character that's great so yeah I think it'll be perfect for those who want to get an idea before the show um even if you've seen the Batman I mean again he's he's a smaller player within that world right right um so yeah I I could not recommend uh that enough and uh also I wanted to uh get to uh meteor uh I saw the question of how do we read our comics for me just by the nature um of uh the work we do I end up reading a lot of mine digitally uh it's just you know time space sometimes I got to read in the car sometimes I got to read over here I gotta I just end up like you know and when I can whenever I can make it into uh you know a comic store I do and those are the ones I actually typically like I go for a lot of variant covers I go for a lot of Trades like those kinds of things um and I'm going in mostly for like hey you know there's something I just don't I miss about having a physical copy in my hand so I I go make sure the covers that you see on the walls a lot of times I'll rotate those out because those are just covers I love but it's also a way for me to actually like have the book again in a different way but just reading them mostly um it's actually what really excites me and that's actually a perfect segue because uh what really excites me about the DC Allin thing is that flip book nature of the special that's hitting in October the all-in special is going to be two different stories and they're going to you actually flip it from one side read all of what is mostly a Dark Side Story and then on the other you flip it the other way and you're reading a Superman and Justice League and hero story but they're going to interact converge into this one story in the middle and that is something like as we point out in uh an interview that just went live before the show started uh we ended up interviewing the um uh part of the creative team for DC's Onin specials so uh we have a whole conversation with Scott Snyder Joshua Williamson Daniel senier uh about the book putting it together what they're really looking at in terms of launching this Allin initiative and the absolute series and all of those things and one of those things we talked about is like making it special for a comic store you're going in reading a physical copy reading a flip book style thing yes you can do it digitally and get the whole story but like there's something really special about being able to go into the store hold it in your hands and read it in the way it was kind of intended so uh that is on the site now you should definitely go check that out but that one of the things that excites me about that it's like anytime I can go into a comic store and read it physically I'm going to I'm gonna I'm G to take the shot um so I just wanted to mention that I'm gonna want also mention read too much almost everything else I am digital like gaming I have I left that long time ago like I left physical copies of games I I like it on my hard drive I like being able to download it on the day I am like easy it's just Comics are the one thing that I'm kind of like I still prefer it in my hand but I will do it digitally because that's to be fair I got the most physical comic media behind me right here have anybody here I got a whole wait a minute what are you talking about that whole shelf behind me is the classics and there's two long boxes underneath that shelf you got the long boxes you got me I can bring out the long boxes you got me on the long boxes I I had like a bunch and then I got so tired of moving them from place to place so I was like all right yeah my parents made me move them out of their house that's how so they had a whole pette that was like we were gonna need a forklift for and it was like it's everything from the 70s through the like 2 to the 2000s and get this out of our house you that's how mine was with video games they're like you have like seven consoles get them out of here I was like okay sorry about that and Barbies yeah I I understand it um I do also want to shout out uh we had a great interview on the poist if you've uh listened to that episode uh Creature Commandos uh is coming out in December right before for my birthday actually uh and it's going to be David dasian is jumping in and kind of Reinventing that group and we had a whole interview uh with him previewing the issue on the most recent episode of the pool list so it happens right after the full episode of us dissecting Comics you can go and listen to that full interview here and of course you can check out stories from now comic book as well all right so you're muted buddy am I oh there you go he oh okay oh I just wanted to shout out to people kind of talking about Rebel Ridge and you know that new movie on Netflix and uh yeah I have been watching it I'm actually almost done I only got like the last 20 minutes but uh it's uh people who have been kind of talking about this movie being surprising you know cops Revenge story about a man Wrong by the police it's actually a lot more intricate than that which was surprising people I said I think it was all in the game uh up on YouTube yes shout out to all in the game one of our regular listeners it says uh Jack prer meets civil AET asset forfeiture which is kind of accurate it's all about this kind of scheme the cops aren't just cops they're running a dirty scheme and so the movie's a lot about like arrest records civil forur like all this weird intricate stuff that makes it a more compelling story so but um yeah it's pretty good pretty good so yeah uh and at the end uh these guys are going to take it because I I'm actually doing two things at once right now but uh these guys are going to take it into Mass agenda at the end we do have to talk some shop and some format about and some changes coming so we're going to do all that so just ping me when we get there Matt I was do you want to do that now we can do that now yeah we can we can gotten to this point uh basically guys we are going to be moving the live show to an earlier time slot one Fridays I think we are going for 9:00 AM Eastern Standard Time because uh help our girl day she is now mommying and she has a little one and uh yeah it'll be a lot easier to kind of get her in here more consistently if we can just move the podcast from any other time except one like any day her time please trying that out we're gonna be trying to move till 9 am Eastern Standard Time on Fridays for the live show um obviously a lot of this is contingent because you know we need you guys the whole point of the live show is you yeah and working with you guys are working not interacting with you guys and and being able to talk to you so we want to hope that all of our hardcore fans make the jump with us 9:00 am wake up right and early if you can't just go back and watch us throughout the day if you have to wait till later but we want to see everybody who is one of our regulars and has been with us for these six years I hope you can make it because again we're trying to help you know we might have been there so we know get in and child care is no joke man man like people just don't want to help me out who are you telling man like I got has a Plucky fully grown little one shout out to Ember and um it is I get why you need to be near your family you know like for things like this it's like one hour can I just have like literally one hour of help be someone no you cannot no for shame I already asked Brandon Davis he was like no I can't watch your kid I was like come on man like just come on over teach him some comic book stuff just getting back to a life of being able to close my bathroom door and even though I told my wife I feel like I'm in fuia on on like I'm doing a tour in fuia because I feel like I can't I feel like every time I close the door and just try to relax in the bathroom some crazy stuff happen screaming outside and I'm reing back nearly tripped over my own pant and my head open like how a family is not glamorous it's yeah worth it all right mat we're gonna be moving everybody come with us please yeah please for me you know you saw what happened when Jan live show me and Matt yeah what off the reals yeah went off the this is your this is your show take us home buddy all right um awesome well uh number one I'm G to because I have to kind of shake the The Wolfman thoughts uh from my memory uh here I'm going to I this the perfect time to get into some tabletop and some a game that uh just makes me very cheerful and that is uh from the op it is gnome Hollow uh this one was making the rounds at at Gen Con uh the op actually had like a big uh setup where you could actually play and like everyone had the like was dressed from the village and things like that it was like this big setup uh gnome Hollow is a game that number one you had me at gnomes and if anyone's seen my background Christmas gnomes gnomes it's all over this off office all over the place so you had me there but what it actually is is a uh you're actually trying to essentially complete your Gnome Village and you do so by kind of completing the rings that you're seeing on the board you're trying to kind of create your own little spaces within this world and everybody up to four players has their own little pair of gnomes that they are also trying to do the same thing so you're flipping those tiles you're getting those little resources that you find along the way they're all mushrooms by the way this game is gorgeous it's like really like vibrant and color all of the components like that are come in the base game so like all of those are like little wooden meeples those tiles are magnetic so like the thing actually magnetized to it you're not losing a bunch of stuff everything fit like it's it's a beautiful kind of game and experience so cute yeah and the core gameplay is great because it's strategic you're the tiles you draw you're drawing two tiles every turn and you don't know which ones you're going to get so you're kind of having to match certain little paths that you see there uh by what's available also there's ways to get extra tiles there's ways to cash in your mushrooms and earn points because at the end of the day uh after a certain number of rounds uh it'll become like who has the most points and who has the most treasure and that's why those little things right there are the treasure pieces that you assemble and whoever has the most points in those wins the game right so that's the ultimate goal but you're assembling all these tiles and it it keeps growing and growing and growing so the little village keeps growing you can do one essentially like three things per turn so it keeps everything short and quickly moving so you're never just sitting there for like an hour uh and you can get a game in about an hour an hour and 15 minutes so uh I just think this was so fun uh everything I was kind of hoping for and expecting uh from the premise and the game the game moves quick it's actually pretty easy to learn even though for the first couple turns I was doing things wrong we were able to figure that out Midway through uh and then another time I played with I've played with two and three players uh and it's actually really fun both ways but this is one of those games can actually play with two players as well uh and if you have kids right uh they can you can actually uh kind of shift some rules uh to adjust for a younger age so they can play with you you know then as they kind of grow up and or learn some of the things you can kind of make it a little bit more challenging for them uh this is going to be like this is probably like at least kind of a 10 and up thing uh but you know my daughter's four and a half and she was playing with me I just had to adjust some rules you just got to make sure you adjust some things for kids right just improvise yeah but it's it's delightful what's also great is it it can expand with you because on the flip side of those boards is actually uh a like more challenging version and it gives you more options there's also two variants included in the rule book that make it a more strategic experience so you can kind of get something for everyone here and the core mechanic of like laying the tiles connecting the board growing this whole thing from the stump and all that it's just so fun so it's one of those rare things of like it has a lot of like richness to it complexity replayability but it's charming and fun there's also a a special uh the op has a like an ex like another it's like a deluxe uh package of components so like they take this and then they raise it even more so like everything has wooden components and things like that really cute could not recommend more so uh that is my review of gnome Hollow uh it is out now uh and the other thing I had to talk about is rest because we had a big wrestling uh week last week where we had Haley come in and we talked about what was happening in WWE and NXT and a lot going on this week so I just wanted to touch on this because it's only been two weeks since aw all in but they have a very quick turnaround for their aew allout pay-per-view so uh pretty short time frame they build a lot of things there's some really good matches on this I will say like even in the in just a couple weeks they've been able to build a pretty a pretty good card obviously let off um for me one of the biggest matches is the one you're seeing right now uh for the video Watchers which is Will Osprey versus Pac uh that one is going to be that's going to be a phenomenal match uh we also have mjf versus Daniel Garcia Daniel Garcia gave one of his best promos of his entire time in aw uh this pass Dynamite against mjf calling uh his hairline into question and all kinds of things but then we have this match which is hangman Adam page versus swer Strickland hangman Adam page legit burn down swer childhood home Wednesday night uh and that is uh that's a level of crazy that uh I don't know you can duplicate I don't know if you can replicate that that that one's gonna kill that was gonna be great willow Nightingale versus Chris statlander I feel like we've seen you know them circling each other we've seen them face each other a couple different times but this one's going to be special because those two just have great chemistry uh in the ring we also have Brian Danielson versus Jack Perry uh that one of course Brian Danielson you know made history for himself when he won the aw World Championship at Allin got to keep his career going finally got that title that he hasn't had since he he joined aw um and then uh We've also got yes Mercedes Monae versus hakara this is gonna be great even though Camille is banned from ringside so she can't be there and but Mercedes and Nar like look these two sheeta is a two-time former Champion Monae has proven she's a star like they're gonna do great things in the ring and then the Young Bucks versus the Blackpool combat club for the Tag Team titles everyone knows I am not a big Young Bucks fan so I am it has become a thing just known in comic book slack so I am rooting for the Blackpool combat Club obviously because hey hey I don't want them to win so that's my bias showing but whatever so it's a good card uh there this is going to be a big pay-per-view this is actually happening on Saturday uh so you can check out all of the coverage happening for this on comic book uh me and Hal will be covering that uh all day so yeah that is your big aw allout preview I think for a minute we actually have kind of a break in big events and pay-per-views just for a minute for a couple weeks before another round but uh this has been a pretty awesome month or or last four weeks uh for wrestling so I don't know if I see any big title changes happening I don't from looking at the card I don't see it but we're still going to get some bangers here uh so yeah that is aw all out um so that takes us out and Jan know anything you wanted to throw in there before we head out oh gosh I mean I'm I'm a huge F1 fan so if anybody's watching F1 and you want to chat about it hit me up that's that's always my weekend like go-to thing and then also of course football this weekend so I hope everybody's having a great time celebrating
