Intro oh hey I'm Gracie Abrams and today I will be texting my friends my friends my new friends okay this question says how does Close To You the first version of close to you that you wrote when you were 16 compared to the version on the album hi Liam exclamation point this new version is very similar to the original I rewrote some of the lyrics and we reproduced it but stayed true XOXO Gossip Girl you know you love me send okay Natalie says is I love you I'm sorry a sister song to I miss you I'm sorry yes all caps it is it's kind of like a book end I loved writing this song this was one of my favorite ones uh to write and I I think just because I'm wait I should be texting this uh yes it is my friend it's a bookend song to the story there we go okay Caitlyn said hi Good Luck Charlie bestie is Good Luck Charlie based off the Disney show you would think comma Caitlyn Kaitlyn but no it's a different story entirely you know for now at least maybe there'll be like a music video someday in the set of the Good Luck Charlie TV show probably not Inspiration though Janine said are there any books or movies that inspired the writing on the secret of us I mean truthfully there weren't any direct references I was talking about this I'm going to respond to Janine hi girl um not directly always indect corly though I was talking about it with Audrey recently like the only movie that we watched together throughout the process of making this album was the iron claw and I wouldn't say that that uh made its way into the story but I guess I'm always reading a lot of poetry I'll let her know that I'm always reading a lot of poetry um Marie how I've been listening to the David Sedaris audio book cuz it's him and he's brilliant Me Talk Pretty One Day I recommend it I think he's brilliant and hysterical I think our album is kind of funny so maybe there was some influence there Megan important question what are weenie thoughts on the secret of us let me tell you weenie was present for the writing of a ton of these songs and he never left the room once months so he probably is obsessed Amy said your music videos always tell the story of the song in such a clever way how do you think of those creative ideas like the cake and mess it up drawing a Line in the Sand I know won't work carrying the body in the bottom well I'm glad you think so glad you think they're creative I am a visual person I also get to work with really cool smart talented individuals who know more than I do about practically everything it's a lot of fun to collaborate with smart kind people um a lot of times the people that I get to work with on videos uh are people that I'm very inspired by in general whose work I have been a fan of for a long time risk for example this is Audrey's directorial debut and she crushed it and she's always had my favorite brain so when we thought about the nightmarish scenario of kind of being a psychotic person with a crush she had this concept of kind of like the Groundhogs Day of like falling falling falling falling falling that came from her brain so Squidward knowing cool people is helpful Olivia says um are you feeling more like Squidward or spongeb sponge you know and he's like I'm ready I'm ready I'm ready that's how I feel Melanie says Gracie the way risk is for the girlies parenthesis me who live out full relationships in their heads how does it feel to know you wrote the best alulu anthem of all time I'm honored that's not you spell honored yes is Canadian oh I'm sorry you're totally right thrown a you in there for for relevancy okay I'm honored that Risk you'd think that um I totally obviously did the same thing and so risk was born uh it's great it's kind of like that's just how it is I don't know if you're someone who thinks all versions out in full if you meet someone and you're like even just for 5 seconds oh they're cute in my mind I'm like well what's 10 steps down the road you know it's some would say it's actually practical cuz you're sort of doing all the mental prep others would call it delusional I think that there are two sides to every coin risk was the first song we wrote for the album kind of set the tone I would say most of the songs on the secret of us yeah come from seeds of Truth and then Audrey and I had a lot of fun picking the lyrics uh that made us laugh the most and uh kind of painting a picture of someone who knows how absurd they're being but is you know kind of going in head first regardless I'm stoked you understand Melanie and I wish all the relationships in your head the best of luck Susie says um hey bestie how would you describe the difference between writing and producing music # multitalented queen crown emoji they're different obviously writing songs is the love of my life I started writing when I was very little just journaling it's always been my outlet it used to be my outlet when I had feelings that I didn't want to talk to other people about I think through the process of making the secret of us the part of that album came from having long conversations with my friends about my relationships and about their relationships and kind of laughing at ourselves the entire time writing those songs felt very um theatrical for the production side on this album specifically the goal was to have that kind of stay the foundation but then also let the vocal really shine through and then whatever we added on top wanted to feel like it was elevating the the story rather than burying it so the difference is real two Production brains I suppose but it's really like how do you best tell the story for me production isn't like what's the craziest sound we can come up with but like what sound will accentuate this lyric um that's just my truth Naps Susie all right are you a nap person person am I a nap person do I nap no I'm Mac tour manager my sister best friend is off to the side I don't nap really no no I'm not Tana says do you have any Study Tips study tips from when you were in college yeah actually I do um it involves putting your phone away far away put your phone far away and find a space that like maybe isn't your dorm I tried to do the thing where like everything was cozy and everything was in one place but then you end up hating your dorm and you don't actually hate your dorm if you're lucky you don't but it's just you don't want it to all happen in the same place I was very intimidated by the library at first and it ends up being a really cool place to kind of get your together and also you see a lot of people you wouldn't otherwise see it's like this cool uh it's cool Zone you can see who on campus is is like that being said I was at school for a year so I I'm not I can't be preachy about these things I know that it worked for me for that short period of time I miss school very much I am not a Dropout I am currently on a leave of absence and I will be returning maybe after this next tour who knows but maybe I'll see you on campus Tana who knows best of luck in your studies thank you for your questions I love texting with you can't wait to do it again in the future fingers crossed I'll forever spell honored with a u now no one freak out okay thank you love you MW bye that okay like the video then hit the button or better yet drop us a comment then check out our latest videos here and don't forget to subscribe by hitting the button here for more celebrity interviews and entertainment news
