wow it hasn't exactly been a blinding week for Sony has it Concord was supposed to be their big new Venture into the world of online firstperson Shooters taking eight years and over $100 million to develop only to get shut down in under two weeks because nobody actually played it and in the wake of a failure like that what they really needed was a major win something that would turn their fortunes around and put the company right back on top something that would win back a fan base that's starting to get jaded with predatory pricing practices and lack of exclusive content so naturally the smart thing to do was to announce the release of an overpriced completely unnecessary revamp of the PS5 with a bunch of features that most games will probably never take advantage of and most Gamers will never even notice no disc drive or vertical stand and a $700 price tag for the privilege enter the PS5 Pro tell me what features are you less excited for the theoretical 120 FPS that you won't even be able to see because the human eye literally can't discern frame rates above 60 the 4K AI spectral Imaging that might just be viewable if you shell it a couple of grand on a topof the Line TV that was made 2 weeks ago or the advanced Ray tracing that's 50% faster than before because that's definitely worth spending $700 on at a time when most people are struggling to decide between rent or food each month and really I've got to ask here is the PS5 so graphically underpowered that it needs a major upgrade like this I mean when you think about the complaints that most Gamers have with modern console titles buggy launches endless patches and updates microtransactions constant handholding always Online requirements female characters whose faces looked like they were carved from Stone on Easter Island the increasingly annoying intrusion of the message I'm pretty sure that graphical horsepower is going to be pretty low down on that list really we're at the point in gaming where Hardware limitations are practically non-existent now and any graphical improvements are so minor and incremental that most people will barely notice them take for example the PS4 that came out more than a decade ago fire it up sometime and I can pretty much guarantee that although it might not be quite as sharp and graphically detailed it's still going to hold up pretty well against modern TI Souls when it comes to technological improvements in gaming well the law of diminishing returns is very much in effect but what about from a business point of you well let's be real here the PS5 has been out for 4 years now under normal circumstances it would be nearing the end of its life cycle so what exactly is the point in paying all this money for a platform that's going to be obsolete within a couple of years unless of course they don't want to go to the trouble and expense of developing a whole new console generation and not trying to artificially extend the life of this one by beefing up their existing architecture I mean it's possible I guess the PS3 had an unusually long lifespan partly because it cost an absolute [ __ ] loed on to develop and Sony wanted to milk it for all it was worth and partly because nobody else was rushing to release the Next Generation either so what was the point but if that's the case then it just creates even more problems for users because eventually the pro is going to become the standard no matter what they promise you right now and support for the original will gradually fall away until the latest and most powerful games will only be compatible with the pro then you're basically forcing your customers into an expensive upgrade that they shouldn't even [ __ ] need in the first place if I want to spend obscene amounts of money chasing the latest technology and wrestling with Hardware incompatibility I'll get back into PC gaming this is precisely why I play consoles in the first place to avoid this kind of stupid [ __ ] all of this is to say that I think the pro is a terrible idea from a business perspective an unnecessary change to a console that's already capable of doing everything required of it and another massive PR fail from a company that's still reeling from a series of embarrassing failures truly Sony you need to do better anyway that's all I've got for today go away now
