and welcome back footy fans to another episode of Donnie's disposals I'm your host coach Donnie hes here back with another sful snapshot we have to chat because we have a Premiere the women's Premiere has been crowned if you can if you are watching the YouTube video you will know who came out Victorious by my first co-host that I will introduce Mr Phil ASP andol who had the luxury of calling the Magnificent women's Grand Final Phil great to see and again as I've told you in a message wonderful call and Warf radio it was fantastic to hear you call was a magnificent Grand Final yeah good day Donny good day Dar and yeah thanks mate really appreciate that it was great to a real privilege to be able to call the game for Warf radio I would have gone on attended anyway um Channel 7even had the broadcast rights exclusively and it was great to work with Chris Kendall and Tom Eglington Patty Goldsmith some of our local Wolf Radio crew and someone that we all know here in sful W circles Jess Bates joined us for the first time a special comments and she did a great job on debut so much so that I hear there's a certain podcast that's going to get her on soon well I I will I will I will try to keep that down to the minimum I try not to go through it but yes I I have secured a chat with Jess I think it'll be fantastic she would I also uh messaged her told her she did a fantastic job and joining us again our Woodville West torrent Super Fan one of my favorite people to chat with and that is dar dar great to see you again sir coach Donny Phil how you going and what a series it was in the women's finals I it's outstanding you know we going to talk about it later on but G was just getting better and better every year the women's football it's I love it it was absolutely magnificent definitely for sure but there is there is men's footy we do need to talk to men's foot there's been three rounds of men's footy that we do need to talk so we will not disrespect them man no it's been interesting and it just shows exactly where they're going it's great exactly and the men's the ladder's done doing some changes we we have a new we have a new ladder leader at the top and we we'll discuss that as we go on but really quick Dar we'll jump right back to you thoughts on the last three rounds we've had men's rounds 11 through 13 and the women's final since the last time that we chatted your thoughts on the fooie because again I agree it's been magnificent fooie in South Australia well from my tips I was just waiting for you two to get into me because I tipped right against you twoo and uh it's just like picking the say the multi in the football you you lose the first League where the the one team kicks a point and you didn't back it so you just might as well sit back and said okay I'm done for the whole game here so you just sit back and worry about so I was five points out in the first game thinking that Central get overline they didn't and then it was the move up that the pyramid again um South came out with a wind but only just just short so again but well done and I think lot the series was fantastic guys I think as I said before the women's foot is getting better and better every year and I hope to see soon that um they'll play Allied over one day where they deserve to be in a few years time I will not disagree with you at all on that one Phil your thoughts on in the last three weeks of footy yeah look it's been fantastic obviously the crescendo of the women's Grand Final but the sful men's season rounds 11 through 13 threw a few curve balls up there some some results that perhaps weren't expected to go the way they were and we've seen a fair bit of shuffling amongst that top five I think for some time now probably the last month there's there's been almost a a feeling amongst everyone in sful circles that the top five will stay as it is the teams that are in there at the moment not sure we'll see anyone jump back inside from outside of the five it has been the real shuffling of the decks in terms of the the positionings you know no would have managed to get themselves back up on top after a really good start to the year Glen have had a couple of bad games and and the doggies have dropped themselves down to towards the back end of the five as have the Eagles so it's been fascinating to see the real changing of the guards across the the positions of the ladder always always good when when the ladder never sits still it's it's one of the things that I know I watch several footy shows over here and when Joey Mont looks up and goes the eight is set the eight is set I'm like okay now it's boring because it there's no Intrigue there's there's no entertainment I want entertainment I want that the spots to never be fully set and I know I think we all even though you love your team I Love parody I love I hate when a competition becomes so obvious that that it's very very frustrating so the unpredictability is what makes it unique isn't it and you don't want to you don't want to know that the the finals are set and locked in stone you know six seven eight weeks out you want to have that that unpredictability 100 100% or at least at least a few spots able to still be adjustable absolutely guys I think you're looking at I mean w wor Torrens a fifth and not had a good start the season or but they are two games clear of North aday so that's surprising when we're halfway through the season so that does give wood West turns to fifth a little bit of a breathing space maybe for a couple of weeks just they've lost yeah they lost that momentum the last few weeks which is look disappoint on my behalf but I think that they they'll bounce back from that but two games clear of North and then it's pretty well close there's only a few games between um like three games between Fifth and so it could bounce around at any stage as as you both guys said M it's it's going to be so much fun to watch this ladder continue to change because again the parody in the south in the sandall is very very close cannot wait so let's jump into it we're going to do just the tiniest bit different we're going to go through the men's first because we have finals to talk about and a grand final so we must have the last thing that we talk about before we go to burning questions be who won the Grand Final so we'll jump to M men's round 11 we will start off with Norwood knocking beating Court Adelaide 12239 St beating the roosters in a close game by 1275 63 and the glenell Tigers beating the West ADL Bloods 10856 as we start the split rounds as we each of the as we are finishing up the split rounds here so we'll go through it hard to say score-wise at least St V North was probably best game of the round whoops sorry start with you sorry yeah so absolutely Johnny I think you'll see that I mean it just what it looks like at the moment I mean Tigers they're way in the five you know smashing West Adelaide North St great game both in the five so you can see there's a bit of a contest there with the top five then obviously Nord on top just show their might while they're on top because they just absolutely builted Port allay Port all they've won a few good games of the last few weeks as well so they're no pushover but certainly just showed what what n could do um while they're sitting on top yeah and I think we saw an example of the Firepower the Norwood footy Club have up in attack there's been some question marks perhaps over their ability to kick a big score and the likes of Jackson Kow Conor McLean one of my favorite sayings got a handful in the Sall so he kicked five goals and jackon Kell three so eight between them and they've proven to be in recent weeks of real potency in attack and a young guy coming through which I'll touch on later when we talk about the recent games from the weekend just gone but Isaac 12 tree very talented young Junior that's just adding to that mix of potency in the nor F line 100% for sure let's we finally we are past the split rounds as we get to round 12 as Central districts beat Port adola 7853 Woodville West Horn Falls to North Adelaide 6340 ston beat the West Adelaide blood continuing the pain 7025 the Adelaide reserves knock off the gleno Tigers 9657 and Norwood continue their winning ways as they beat the Panthers 70-31 so unfortunately looking at it I mean the best game is probably the one that Dar probably doesn't want to talk about and that's North Adelaide knocking off his beloved Eagles Dar will start with you yeah look Donnie this we were up as you probably saw we're up by quite a margin there and come out after half time and they went to sleep so it's really disappointing don't take anything away from North they were brilliant after halftime and they just it was a wet miserable day it's um know the ground was Heavy which you know obviously when you got the likes of J Ren the big Ruckman great he rucked well all day but I think just wasn't his sort of day that day um a few of our Big Blocks um again North had had a lot of running plays that they could take the ball on after half time and they just ran away with it at the end and uh it was a great game disappointing for Eagles because that sort of set another tone that we lost uh couple weeks after that so that's why we've dropped from I think we're sitting second or third and we've dropped a fifth now so disappointing but don't take anything away from North La that were brilliant that day right pH yeah that was a case of the north ADL Jackal side coming out I think for mine over the last couple of years they've probably been the biggest and hide side and we saw I think Jacob surgeon's a pretty frustrated coach at the best of times and when his team puts in good performances like that and terrible the week after um yeah he would have been frustrated the other result went to script I think St way too good for a disappointing West Adela the doggies got a bit of a a nice win over over Arch Rivals port adelade and wat was stubbed a bit of an arm wrestle there in some windy wet conditions at Alberton but for mine the upset of the round was certainly the crow s Reserve side defeating glenell glenell were pretty inaccurate seven goals and I think the potency of the forward line they had big Riley fi Thorp of course returning from injury Chris Burgess and Loy Gant kick 7 or8 goals between them so um Adela just found that you know we've talked about it before when they've got some decent AFL listed players playing in the San for and they're okay with injuries at the next level and they've got guys coming back in they're pretty potent side and we've seen that in more recent weeks with both them and Port Adelaide and we'll good do it the last round that has played since the last time that we chatted would be round three 13 as we see the Adelaide reserves continue with another win knocking off Central District 7539 the Panthers fall to the start double blue 7554 the ganel Tigers just Edge out with a 12-point win over the Woodville West torren Eagles 6755 Norwood continue their winning ways smashing the West Adelaide Bloods 11541 and Port Adelaide finally get a win as they knock off the north Adelaide roosters in their Jackel andhy form that is the roosters 86 57 I mean looking at it gentlemen I mean none I mean the closest game is that 12-point game between between Glenelg but it seems like Glen's kicking behinds really is one of the reasons that helped them win it which is kind of odd we'll go to you Phil to start this one yeah look the tigers are a good side and good sides went ugly it's a phrase I coin often and you know Donny will touch on it as well the side you know the Eagles had their moments I think they came out of the blocks earlyer and with four goals to n up kicking with a strong Breeze but uh that was was an intriguing round by the big blowout for Norwood over West Adela there were some close games and South I think at one stage I was commentating the Norwood West game or getting some scores down the line and my co- commentator Patty Goldsmith is a big stman and he's a bit concerned I think at one stage the Panthers were three or four goals up and st came home with the wind and won but the disappointing result for mine you know without the the central connection just in general was that the Bulldogs you know they dropped their guard a little bit there and and and certainly a slow start by reports Paul Thomas the coach gave him a really good old fashioned blasting at halftime um they came out and still weren't able to get the job done and Adelaide again in that nice little bit of mini form with a lot of their quality AFL listed players got the job done Dar spot on Phil crows can be up and down because obviously depending on how many of the AFL players they do have in in that side because you see what they did to the team last week and they're still sitting what third bottom I think they are so they come out and beat Central districts by a massive margin and it just depends on the week what crows what they got in and out of the side so that's that's the difference between you know injuries in the top top te at the crows compared to you know if they got a full side I think one of the advertiser journalist here Warren Partland is a long standing joury covering the s from many a year um did a bit of an analogy that when there's 17 at least 17 AFL listed players those Reserve sides are really hard to beat and in most recent weeks um they've had up to up in around the 15 when they were struggling at the start of the Year there was 11 and 12 and 13 but when you've got you know 15 AFL listed players you're only needing three or four topup guys and you can see those results are stting to best 100% 100% feel yeah yeah it just it just shows you the overall quality uh that that these that these AFL listed players have that is it does it does show there there's the reason that you are an AFL listed player and not a sful topup player so it's you hate going there but it is the obvious thing and I know that we'll discuss it the tiny bit later all the drama with Port Adelaide and Adelaide are they going to go to the VF when are they going to go to the vfl when are the reserve comp going to start how does that affect the sample yada yada yada yada yada it's it's very frustrating that that you're going to lose a little bit of History losing Port because of all of the history that it has I know it's not exactly the same but it's just a little frustrating that uh that this this drama happens that it really shouldn't and it really is kind of taken a little bit away from the sample from from the sample because I think the competition is magnificent whether the AFL clubs have been cotton walled I think as much as they would feel they deserve is the million dooll question on that so let's jump from the negative and let's jump to the positive and that is the women's finals which I thought were absolutely magnificent we jump to the semi-finals where South adade continue their strong form beating glennel 4113 in a game that literally if you're the glennel Tigers you're kicking yourself because of the behinds 17 in this game and then you jump Norwood comes out strong as the Bottom seed coming into the finals knocking knock in off Central districts 40 35 where if you're a central district supporter if one goal goes straight at least you get extra time so two magnificent games but you got to say the Norwood centrals was a classic game I know it didn't go the exactly the way you probably would have wanted Phil but your tip was right because you did tip Norwood to knock off Central districts yeah a TI game and a fantastic game I called this one on the San for now stream with young talented caller Chris KY and um it went right down to the wire you guys know the dogs female side have had this funny neck in recent seasons of pinching games at the death knock and N were the best team all side all day they they made the most of their opportunities and I think they they really did deserve the win um obviously it would have been fitting for Shelby Smith who ended up retiring to continue her March towards another Premiership and we'll touch on Shelby after but um yeah the ball was literally uh kicked from coast to coast it was a Nord behind the dogs took the kick out went all the way down inside forward 5050 and just as the ball was about to go inside 50 and maybe Rosen swag in a strong position to mark but she still would have been 35 me out on a tight angle the siren sounded and the Elation from Brad frell and his wife Ali who's we know well here was a former player and a great assistant and runner for the team um it was great to see nor were very ecstatic to get through and deservingly so and um yeah the Panthers in the second game guys just did what they needed to do GL were in acccurate but um you all year I've touched on it South I've had a feeling of redemption about them and they proved this on the day with a more than comfortable win very much darus oh look when look Central were in front in the last last quarter I thought here we here we go and might be able to give these two BLS a bit of Run for the money and have a bit of fun with them at the the podcast but then look as as you know nor come home strong and just got over by Five Points so was really Five Points out of giving you two a bit of grief but now look well done for Nord but discipline with Central I just thought they were come in right at the right time but uh when you get a game like this great game it was too there's no doubt about it and what and um good on nor and they moved into the next round yeah it was it was it was a magnificent semi-finals absolutely loved them we move to the preliminary final where we see Norwood continue on as they knock off glennel 5536 the red legs move on to the Grand Final and I I must say this Phil when this H when when this particular result I watched the game I just looked and went well Phil and I are both smiling because we're three for three on our tips Dar oh look South that South bit of team by far all year they've just they've shown their might they've been on top all year they deserve this win to go straight in the Grand Final to play at least in a grand final they knew then so and look Tigers didn't didn't kick well but I still think you know Panthers would have won quite comfortable end anyway if it would have been you know three or four point three or four those points turn the goals but South was brilliant on the day no doubt about it definitely for sure felt yeah and look the the preliminary final I think it was more the Kiana Lee show she's an absolute talent and have loved seeing her progression I saw at the Eagles a few years ago and um I knew she had a raw talent that was really there and untapped a little bit and I think the move to go over to the red legs was was really good for her she was kind of pigeon H hold as a go-to full forward at Woodville West tens she knows where the goals are there's no denying she kicked 33 goals from 29 games for Woodville West hens and then Brad frell a master move and I think it might have even been back to Brad Snell the former coach of the nor footy Club played her on a wing played her on a wing and able to push forward and she kicked three goals turned the game on its head and um the ti has really put in a good fight um they certainly tried their hardest under Lexia Edwards but I think class preved and and glenell probably disappointing with the back half of their year because they were in a strong position to start the year had some up and down form with AFL girls in and out but yeah no were too strong on the prelim and progress himself straight to a GF against the Panthers yep and great transition which we go to a grand final and I'm I'm gonna say this I don't care about the score legitimately don't care about the score this was a magnificent game of footy B teams tackled really well the defensive pressure and the pressure in this game was Elite it was so much fun to watch I don't care that the final score as South Adela get their Premiership they get their Redemption after falling short last year 18-13 as Norwood almost kicking themselves a little bit as one behind one behind cost them just had them fall a little bit short but I'll tell you this I want to tell a funny story I got a message two days before the Grand Final from Brad frell because he wanted to he I I thought it was fasty he he messes me and he goes honestly who do you think's going to win the game and I went whoa that's a loaded question and he's like he's like he's like he's like I'm not he goes I don't want it to be a loaded question he goes honestly I said honestly I said I tip South but I have this funny feeling you guys are going you guys are going to be in it it's going to come down to little margins and that's what it was literally what it was I said I said I'll be honest I said I probably will be baring for you by fourth quarter if it's close legitimately I was going to be honest they they were it was a magnificent Grand Final again south Adela showed they were the best team almost pretty much all year which is really interesting to see that two of their two of their losses were to Norwood this year so it just shows you it doesn't matter what the the home and away is literally meaningless when you get to the Grand when you get to the finals the finals are completely different animal and sou was just magnificent a heck of it G but Norwood did not do anything to dissuade them you look at that team if they can keep most of that team together they are going to be dangerous next year Kobe Morgan gets a little bit older you still have Keana Lee you still you still have some of it and Tashan Amar didn't play in this game so think about it there there were some key there was there were some players that I think have been really impactful for Norwood that did not play but again all plotted and flowers to the Panthers that magnificent job those ladies did absolutely absolutely fantastic it was so much fun to watch this game and again Phil the call was magnificent again Jess Bates on Phil Jess Bates on um on uh special comments was magnificent I thought she did a wonderful job which during messaging back and forth she told me it was the first time she'd ever done it which I thought was as I told her surprised me because I thought she did really really well she did magnificent so Dar your thoughts on this Grand Final look just a fantastic final the women's as I keep saying the women's getting better and better each year Rosie I Bard she was there I couldn't make unfor she said it was just a tough hardfought game and and what she did say she was so glad that the men's south side and the Nord men's were there as well supporting the women so that's just where this is heading she said that was so good to see that it just says they one United Club even the South a boys if they live way down south it's a fair way to travel they're all there supporting the women and how good is that to see I thought that was just brilliant on on those teams so well done to that but South deserved it very close game you know South ABS smashed them them the week like few weeks before but um when Ros 7 was a grand final as you said Donnie finals were different kler fish the Grand Final was even different so well done to South for holding on but Nord they put up a fantastic fight yep well yeah I think I think I said in the call afterwards that Nord were Gallant in defeat and I think that's an easy word to use when when a team gets defeated you say you know they tried hard they were gallon in defeat but I think it really epitomized the nor effort for the season they came from the first team to make the Grand Final from fourth position um they had an up and down year you know Brad would admit that you know they struggled at time of consistency um to get through to knock the dogs off to knock the Tigers off and get into um a grand final against the favorites now southl was certainly the favorites I think that PS just ran out of petrol tickets but um as yor said as Rosie said the lady from the Eagles it was a fantastic contest the intensity from the get-go um we were very close we're lucky nors a great over the broadcast we sitting almost on top of Center wing and you could hear the physical contact you know you you've seen the progression of the women over the years and perhaps they weren't as physical in season one as they are now um there was no holds bar in this contest they were physical at each other and you look at the scoreboard the conditions were very very tricky it was a strong Breeze blowing from the East to the West so across the ground didn't favor any end and if you would have said guys that you know the Premiership team at to half time would be kept goal and scoreless in the second half they were three goals to half time to go to win the flag you would have probably thought that's a bit strange and N gave their all Adrian Davis was fantastic but in the end class prevailed and and I don't want to harp on it too much but it feels like um you know the Justice was was right there in terms of South adade Wing winning um take my doggies hat off and and they were unlucky in the Grand Final the year before so the right team won in my opinion they were the best team all year um and a big shout out to Rick Watts who's a fantastic human being um but a great coach as well he's a real Communicator a real people person got quite emotional after the game even dropped the f bomb on national television made up for it I people love that I don't know I but a great a great game of footy a great way to cap off what was a great sful w season and a real honor and privilege to commentate it with Chris Kendall and the guys from Wolf Radio yeah it was magnificent and I'll continue to say this I've said it before I love the honesty of Australians like if you drop the f bomb on a call if you drop the f bomb in an interview darn it let it go because it's emotion and I want emotion dang it I hate the the the whitewashed conservative BS that happens over here trust me it really annoys me if you drop one cuss word you're getting fired over there the Let It Go you get you get a tiny little don't do that don't do that but you let it go and I and I absolutely love that because sometimes emotion gets the best of you dang it just Let It Go just Let It Go thank you so we will we will jump from there we'll jump to the burning questions it will stay on the women's and I have to again a fantastic women's Grand Final I will start with you Dar was this a fitting end to this season as South Adelaide the best team all year won the Grand Final 100% I think Donnie said you I think we said it most of the year that you know they lost that Grand Final last year that put much bigger fire in the bil of South La to win this year and they were by far the best Teo year just winning the Grand Final I think that's probably a bit of a a scare and I I thought Nord you know weren even in it because remember they lost the Eagles who were bottom second bottom you know the second last game of the year so I thought well nor out they haven't got that fighter to to continue but they whether Eagles did them a favor they you know reset rechecked and then went on to play in the Grand Final but I mean what a game when you're five points in a grand final low scoring as as Phil said the win was very strong or rosu said it as well so but just south you know to lose last year to come back and win that Grand Final that just showed true spirit and and well done to him again yep 100% fail yeah look the words that come to mind was Steely resolve I remember using him a few times in the call throughout South adela's games in the season and again don't want to harp on it like a broken record but you just sense that South had this this un unfinished business they wanted to make amends there's nothing you can do about the results from last year all you can do is focus in on the here and the now but they recruited reasonably well they had selective players coming and out they had a lot of players that couldn't even get into the final team Bri kle their Captain didn't even end up playing she missed a lot of footy after back from injury Morgan Johnson who was a quality player against her old club Norwood just couldn't quite get up so the depth was as good as it's been South Adelaide won the development women's Premiership so that says that you know they've got some good players coming through and there was even three or four girls that got to play in two premierships they played in the development flag and then played in the league flag so um again you know just a surmising a final statement on it you know just as prevailed the victors were the the best team all year in South adade thoroughly deserving of the 2024 host plus SEL W premiers well and also giving South Adela their ploted too is they they've had some they've had some really good aflw talent that have been through them as well Brook bull Brook Buu Holly Eiffel from last year they've they've they've got some Talent going through that Panther system that they're they're going to be fun to watch even even more as the years go on which actually is also a great transition to the next question because the BNF the the the women's Awards went through over the last three weeks and the BNF was a sensational count as s Nicki just edges glenelg's Jess Bas by three votes to get the BNF was this a bit of a shock because I I went into that count thinking Jess Bates has been the talk of of the competition the entire year she's already she's already won a BNF before and Nicki Neil I don't know did she come out of nowhere a little bit because I this was not expected again sou is such an evenly split team for me I wasn't expecting them to have that that top person so Phil I'll go to you was this a little bit of a shark yeah look it was and I was at the best and fairest count that night and all eyes and all cameras were on Jess baits and she got off to a fast start and every time there was a gel Victory it was you know one vote two votes three votes Jay Bates I think the the consistency from Nicki NE with what got her over the line and um you know whilst Jess doesn't really want to play the game for individual accolades I sense a little bit of disappointment talking to her off air before our war radio broadcast and and she admitted that the last two games that she missed through injury cost her that was probably the difference and shy needed you know another two votes to get the the chocolates and if she played you'd almost certainly think she would have got them done but test to Nikki NE and her consistency um she's Nikki Gore n Gore previously known as Nikki Gore a Premiership player at AFL W level for the crows um and she didn't stand out every week and get three votes here and there she was just a lot of two votes a lot of one votes and um the odd first preference here and there and a fitting winner very humble young lady very talented young lady um her and her twin sister a chion Surfers as well um and I know on the night you just had this sense that while she appreciated the individual Accolade um the South girls were all on their best behavior drinking the waters and under control um and and celebrated happily with Nikki um but knew that there was a bigger fish to fry a couple of days later Dar yeah Jess baates I thought she was had it down I every time we only played obviously GL a couple of times but she actually Slaughter us she was just got she's balanced she's got the the best kick on in women's footage she can hand know 20 M she was just a gun and Nikki I got to be honest I can't really remember her that's just she was probably there but she didn't stand out like as you said if she was second or third she didn't really stand out but Jess she stood out like my God who is this player we got to stop her somehow we got to somehow know back in the old days just to give her one but you can't do that anymore of course but she was just an absolute superar so so Jess bit for me was hands down but anything as it's like Grand finals anything that happen on the on the night mhm and I think it's also a little bit too is is that with with with with Jess sometimes it can be All or Nothing she's either getting three votes or she's not polling like I I watch I watched the count I again the count was fantastic for me because you look at it and you see some interesting results there were some that I was like okay I remember I watched this game and I went interesting three voter like I like it was interesting like I know with with Norwood Sachi s for the early part of the season was getting the three votes so it was it was very interesting to see that so yeah Jess was it seemed like Jess was either three votes one vote or no votes she she very rarely ever got two and I think that's what Nicki Neil was one one two one one two three three two like it seemed like she almost pulled every single game for South Adelaide which I think is probably as Phil said it's the consistency of her being there she she's kind of that Silent Assassin she's not over she does she doesn't get the Jess baates lines like 30 disposals 15 tackles uh six scored involvement no Nicki Neil was 20 disposal five tackles but she was always in that range as I went through the statistic so again consistency sometimes gets it you don't always have to be a you don't always have to be that that gun player that just shines out like a shooting star so again congratulations Nicki Neil Jess Bates again fantastic why she's not in an aflw roster I do not know Brad Ferrell said the same thing when I had a chat with him for the podcast um but again hey we get the luxury of watching this this young lady Play It's been magnificent so again fantastic count I I thought it was absolutely magnificent um so we'll go to it I want I want to do this personally just because as Phil is a huge doggy supporter Shelby Smith as he said as he said earlier Shelby Smith has decided to hang up the boots and for a player of her magnitude and again she's an absolute Legend at the Central District spy Club there's just no denying it not only being um a legacy player with with her father but just the way she plays she's so much fun to watch I wanted to give her plot it's Phil can you just let's I want to give a thank you to Shelby because thank you so much for what she has done because she's been a magnificent player it's going to be so sad not seeing her run out there in the red white and blue look it'll be a different Central District's football club they're not going to feel the same and she she'll go down as their most CA player from a um um a record perspective she's one four best and feris I wouldn't be surprised if she goes on to win a fifth um consecutively as well so someone that didn't have a lot of exposure to Footy came from a net ball background and just took up footy locally I think with a sister at Eastern Park only eight years ago to then be at an an elite State continue to play the form of footy she she did um she might have if she wanted to go on and maybe get a chance at rfl level but she's got a young family she runs her own hairdressing sellon and I think you know it's a big to be a semi-professional footballer and um she was the epitome of the Smith family she she played like Dad tough and and hard and you know old boots style and um Not only was she a great footballer and a great leader on the field she's a great person off it as well she's always got time for a chat comes up and says hello takes photos with the kids and I think probably the biggest thing for mine won't be you know she'll go down as a Premiership Captain but she'll be the real spiritual leader and a real um Pioneer for young future girls that want to Aspire to be League footballers um they've got no better role model than uh than Shelby Smith and I can take my hat off to her and say congratulations on a wonderful career Shelby it's been great to know you as a as a quality person and a quality footballer and well done on your great career go how good is this though now guys I mean the women's foot is still under young but we're hearing you know like girls of Shelby we're leaving a legacy champions of the game that that's the best thing that sted to come now in the women's footy it was just you know before they played two years nothing but now we're hearing retirement Champions leaving a legacy what they've done you know six I think he said six best and Fest or five that's what I think we're going to hearing again in years to come in next year and year after this she left the Legacy she was a champion of this club we'll start seeing photos go up on on the honor boards it's going to be brilliant in a few years time I don't think the girls quite understand in any hole across the competition what they're actually doing they're actually breaking down barriers that in the future when we're going to see this women's football in a grown sport that they actually started this back in the 2 2021 they started this Legacy that's going to grow to something very special and Shelby well done for being part of that you know something special it's awesome only one other lady I want just to make mention because she's in a similar vein to Shelby Smith and that's the St Skipper Kate Harris she's also hung up the boots um she's been an inspirational leader the sful here have a ETA ETA is our our major power supplier in South Australia and a great sponsor of the of the sful and sful women um and each year they award the the most inspirational leader and Kate's won that a couple of years in a rle and um she played like Shelby Smith tough and hard in and under and I spoke to her on the best and Ferris n was going to almost going to have her on our Wolf radio coverage prior another commitment so congratulations to Kate Harris from the double Blues as well on a great career also and that's that's the other thing there's there's there's going to be so many that are going to retire the next few years that that they're not the aflw players but they're the sample players that really set the foundation for this competition I mean we had Ali frell last year for for the Norwood footy Club you you have these stepping St these Stones these great pillars that will be able to be the foundation for this competition going forward again Shelby thank you so much for what you have done it is magnificent and to all of the the retiring players at the SEL W level again thank you so much for what you have done you've given us so much entertainment again this competition is only growing there are young girls right now that are being inspired by you that are going to play footy at not only maybe the sample level but even the AF aflw level that I think will be inspiring by you so I think this is nothing but fantastic so again I'm hoping hoping to get Shelby on the podcast we we've been working on it in fact I messaged her after I had found out about this and she replied back going well maybe I should have enough free time to have do a chat with you now so I'm hoping still crossing my fingers that I can get that that Legend on the podcast for sure so we will jump to the men's competition really really quickly and do our burning questions here so Norwood now sits at top the ladder after 11 after 11 rounds with but I I'll ask this we're getting closer and closer to finals now with only with with only a few rounds left can the chasing stir and glenell catch the legs or is this the legs minor Premiership to win we'll start with you Phil yeah look it's an interesting question we've only got you know six or seven rounds left to go and I think nor from what I saw firsthand them and sturd are the two best teams in the competition so LGA proven to be a little bit and they're a bit reliant on some players where the depth might not be the same as a Nord or a stt so um I think it's a bit of a flip of the coin as to whether it be the double blues or the the red legs the two Eastern suburbs rival Rivals as to who will win the minor Premiership but if I had to put my money on it right now just based on what I've seen recently yeah the N fo0 Club are going to be minor Premier for mine and and will be in and amongst when the whips are cracking in the back half of the year right Dar 100% norward I think they were brilliant we've got um we've got them in a few weeks time so at wov so we got stt this week so we haven't got a very good run coming up but especially over with the last two losses we've had as well so but n no is Sensational and uh St St lost um know three out of the first five games that haven't lost the game since so um they're on on fire as well but I still think Nord stir second then I think the the five is probably about right at the moment North slim chance but I don't I think the five is there at the moment that's my my count anyway that's a great transition cuz that was my next question seven rounds left is it too big a call is the final five for the finals set Dar yes I think it is yeah absolutely because with two games Woodville West torens a fifth and North La sixth with two games clear of North La which probably just gives enough breathing space would think you know we got you know South and West a to come as well as you know Nord and stur but I think if we just win those two games I think we're there all right pH too early yeah I think we mentioned it in the intro that it's for m to stay the way it is but maybe the mix might just slightly change I think it's a big game this weekend down in Victor Harbor on the fluro Pinal of South Australia there's some State country championships and South Adat hosting North ad in in a game that I'll be down there to commentate so big game for North Adela this week if they get the win over South which you think they'll go in as favorites it'll still keep their chances alive it's that old adage in footy when you rely on other teams and results to go your way you're taking Destiny out of your own hands and I think if North are playing this year they will be relying on other results and I just don't see changing in terms of the five that are in there in the mix yep 100% yeah and my last question for burning questions is going to be a fun one because as over the last three weeks we've heard some we've we've heard some news as we have seen over the last few weeks that port and Adelaide will stay in the sandall for at least one more year is this a good thing for the competition or is this just delaying the pain as both these two teams are are pretty set on at least joining the vfl as they try to get a AFL reserves comp started Phil we'll start with you look the bandaid has got to come off at some stage it's been a scab on the sful for some time and I mean that respectfully as much as it can be and um yeah look you probably want the the IFL to have the Reserves competition done correctly you don't want it to be a half ass thing and um you know they're going to need time to get that right um I think now that uh it's pretty obvious that's the direction they're going um they just need another 12 months under their feet to get to get the format right to get all the f um funding correct and allocated accordingly and um you know I've touched on this a few times the Sall hasn't been the Sall that Darcy and I would remember from from 1997 when Port Adela went out of the SEL and into the AFL and then of course it changed again back in 2014 when the AFL reserves came in so um I don't want to say it'll be a sad day or it'll be a blessing when they're gone it's just going to be different it's going to be another chapter we've gone through similar changes in sville history in recent times and um it just won't be the same not having the black and white te the black and white stripes of Port Adelaide and um yeah I read an interesting article with Tim Jen Port ad Legend on on port's website written by Michelangelo RI and um yeah I'd strongly urge all sful footy followers to read it because he sums up a lot of the feelings of The Wider football community and wanted to be at the best level they've got there they can't have their cake and eat it to and when a club champion like that's stating that I think it's pretty pertinent and um yeah it'll be different but it'll be I'm sure everyone will move on like we have done in Years Gone by do oh I I can't agree with ph anymore he he nailed it he's absolutely nailed that seriously it's just it's a Band-Aid thing so just rip it off at some stage and just let all move on I think just uh look whether I mean I don't know whe it's going to affect the the television rights it's going to affect the money because obviously um crows pay money to to place or whether it's going to affect the cash flow we don't know there is a Consulting Group at the moment in Sanel uh that's going through this all this now so um I think that is out there so there not no hidden agenda there but it's what that looks like at the end they're going through the pros cons and what it looks like but I think it's just close close shop now just this will move on and have the eight and I think it's going to be a much better competition yeah and for me it's a little bit of I I think pora I think I I don't want to say it but I'm gonna say it P Adeline when you get over to the vfl you better not complain because they ain't going to take care of you any anymore than what the Sand's doing right now and it's not that the sful is being mean to you it's the Sand's trying to make the competition as even as it possibly can is it fair who knows I nobody's ever going to say because if you look at the vfl competition I mean the the Standalone clubs are getting smacked around unfortunately because of the fact that they can have almost an unlimited amount of AFL listed players so again is is is it the is it the s is at the sanctuary that Port Adelaide wants it to be we'll have to see so I'm I'm almost a little bit interested to see will the narrative change when they join the vfl and they've got to go over to Victoria every other week that'll be the question for sure so it's a good point you make Don and I'll be quick here but um it's always falling on De ears for M because they say it's not a Level Playing Field it's not fair but yet they've got AFL footballers full-time footballers where one player would be earning more than the whole S Club salary cap absolutely isir in one and out the other for mine because no it's not it's not fair to the S we take you on board and have you in our competition and is it fair that you guys can't manage your list and get 44 quality players are going to be competitive at AFL and sful level that's your issue not ours 100% And that's that's the exact same thing that that annoys me sometimes about it is it's like it's like some of these Club some of these clubs it it's sful and even as I cover the waffle it's like it really is not a fair and balanced competition if you can have 16 AFL AFL listed players playing in your in your in your uh State League competition with like we're seeing it now Peele Thunder has that alignment right now and peel Thunder is really one of the best teams in the waffle right now so it's I mean how is it fair how is it really fair to the Standalone clubs like especially if they have a salary cap that as you said Phil I mean one AFL player goes down there that's the entire salary cap walking around the field how is that fair so we we won't stay on this again like I said it'll it'll be sad to lose the Port Adelaide name is it is it the magpies absolutely not I mean I think everybody that I talk to even even pork fans admit that the reserve competition team is not the magpies it's an adoration that they kind of brought up to kind of appease some of the the the sful fans of the club so we'll jump to it we'll do tips really really quickly because as I told these two gentlemen I've got to go to work because it's Thursday normally I go to work on this particular day so I don't have as much time as I normally do so we'll jump into tips round 14 as we jump to Cooper Stadium as the red Lakes host the Adelaide reserves Dar will start with you who do you like in this one uh Norwood by Miles I think so crows they've won some good games the last few weeks you know by good margins but I still think Nord just they're on fire at the moment so by a good margin right Bel yeah I'm going to tip with the result not sure about the margin I think Norwood will win Maybe by four or five goals the crows have got some good ins and outs and they'll play some good footy but nor yeah should be too strong at particularly at home of course all lead's AFL side's getting a little bit healthier but I think red leg still just too good still just a little bit too good a little bit too consistent on that one I like the legs as well we'll jump to Alberton noal as Port Adelaide hosts the glenell Tigers and an interesting one here for the T for the tiges with a chance to bounce back Phil who do you like in this one I've got a bit of a funny feeling of my Waters the upset might be Brewing here and asava R gal has been cleared to go back and play his first game at San for level he'd be a good player and he'll go on to one of the likes of a Liam MCB or or a Luke Reynolds so um in a nutshell I'm going to tip an upset and go pade by under a goal darus yeah I'm going for the Tigers still I think they've I think they just yeah I thought that was struggling I didn't know about those those plays then Phil but I'll still I'll still go the Tigers I think I'm going to go with the Tigers in this way I think just a little bit more consistent a little bit more consistency on this one be interesting to see there there I think there's a suspension in the port adelade as well so there may be uh for one good one bad in this situation so I'm going to go with the tiges on this one would J de Monica theia oval as the Woodville West Torrance Eagles host stt okay Dar head our heart on this one can your beloved Eagles knock off the double blues or the double Blues just the tiniest bit too good Jin is the ever cliche to say we have to win this one I cannot say any more than in Lou and now because we've lost the last two games and it's at home and sturer they're sitting third is that right second or third so if we win this one second well thanks Phil um I think it's going to be case for okay we've won this one we're back in on the winning circle so now we can stay in that five because we could be two or three games clear of North with another game out of the way so this is a must win for us I'm going to back the Eagles I think um they I think they they just got to come good now but um I just want to mention too there's a lunch we there's a lunch on we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the West torren 1924 Grand Final this this Saturday so I'll be at the lunch there looking forward to it there's going to be all this memorability so looking forward to that so 100 years since West tens I think it's their first Grand Final from memory as well Bill yeah look I think this is match of the round for mine I think probably challenging the Norwood crows game as as the best game on the on the cards for this week and yeah the Eagles looked that they're on a bit of a downward Trend at the moment based on their last couple of weeks of form but um I haven't seen St live they're the only team I haven't seen live this year but I've watched them a fair bit closely on both Channel 7 and the sful now replays and I can't help but like they're even spread Marty mat is a tough as all boots style coach and I think St sorry Dar might just get this one by about three or four goals I'm going to go the same way there I think start just a little bit too strong but will not Shock me if the Eagles pull the upside at home you need it sometimes desperate team is the most dangerous team and tip St but I think the Eagles are in this up to up to their eyeballs on that one cannot wait for that one EXC convenience oal oval sees the Central District Bulldogs take on the west Adelaide Bloods I'm going TI the doggies in this one doggies too good blood still kind of just have not found consistency right now so tipping the doggies on this one darus will go to you I yeah I agree with that two centrals by a good margin West are really struggling again this year which is you don't like to see that and the theame they're Los they're losing by large margins as well they're not as if it's like one or two goals it is large margins so they just are struggling so look centrals for me by I say five or six goals yeah I tend to guys I saw West firstand and they were super disappointing no took their foot off the pedal in the second half and and Westy's only had one goal to halftime the dogs have got some good players coming back in BO Thomas is a very very talented young key rck or forward he's the brother half brother of the coach Paul Thomas um and the weather's probably going to bring the game down a peg to be a bit of a SLO it's going to be predicted to be wet and windy here in Adelaide on Saturday so if it was a dry sunny day I'd say the dogs bought eight goals I'm going to go the dogs by five goals in the wet that'll be and an interesting one down in Victor Harbor as towards the bottom South adaly take on as as Phil monikered earlier the the the Jackel and hind team that is the north Adelaide roosters so Phil will go with you can the roosters knock offer can the panther pulling upset yeah looking forward to heading down to the picturesque coastal town of Victor an hour and a half out of Adela and been down there a couple of times to call some country championships which this will be as well on Sunday um this game on Saturday I think northw wind South have been very disappointing this year we know they're in a real re rebuild phase they're blooding a lot of kids there'll be another kid Phoenix hardgrave who's a talented under 18 state representative will make his League debut on Saturday so good luck to Young Phoenix but I think North Adelaide the je on hide yes it's showing this year but on paper they should be too strong for the Panthers okay Darth yeah no 100% as well so what what over they playing at um Phil vior Harbor okay in can sorry it was on there sorry yeah no but I agree not North but good margin South and Westies are just a little bit disappointing this year so but as you said they are rebuilding Westies might be doing the same but um again North it be great atmosphere down there I think all the Victor Harari and be down there watching the game so be fair crowd down there as well yeah last year they had just under 3,000 they've got the country championships being played across the Saturday the two finals on the Sunday myself and colleague Phil hden will be calling those they'll be live and free on San now as well so make sure you check him out y cannot wait on this cannot wait on this one that that one's gonna be an interesting one so well ladies and gentlemen I hate to cut this abrupt and short but I've got to get to work I've got to let these two gentlemen get to bed it's it's getting a little bit late over there in South Australia so that is going to do it for another episode of Donnie's disposals we will talk again very very soon with more footy coverage it's been fantastic and we will see you again with more footy very very soon
