what the Irish lacked in style points on Saturday night they more than made up for in resiliency Notre Dame battled a slow start offensively at Texas A&M and fought a rockus crowd all night which reached a fever pitch early in the fourth quarter when A&M tied the game but from that point on Notre Dame was the better team dominating on both sides of the football and taking the lead late to pick up a satisfying Road victory over a ranked SEC team it's just a proud moment man sometimes your emotions gets the best of you but a huge victory for our program um over a really really good football team uh that is an impressive football team that's going to win a lot of games uh I got a lot of respect for for Coach Elco and and that's a good group we just faced and we were able to beat and it wasn't pretty our defense played Lights Out it's rewarding on a night where points were hard to come by Notre Dame's offense was at its best when it mattered the most with the game tied late in the fourth quarter the Irish put together an eight-play 85 yd Drive capped off when Jeremiah Love breaks away for a 21 yd go-ahead touchdown Which put the Irish in front for good the 23 points that Notre Dame scored was plenty for their defense on a night where they were spectacular holding Texas A&M to just 246 total yards and forcing two turnovers h a huge tone Setter um you know it's just no other place to play but uh here in kind of the hype is is kind of where we wanted and you know we we handle business we got a great defense they play great all night um but to be able to come out uh you know matter you know we made it when it counts all right so the last Drive uh everybody had all the confidence in the world that we were going to be able to go down there and score um it was just a matter of when and uh you know finally by the fourth quarter um we kind of got things going and that last Drive meant a lot to us after the win new Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard told me that winning on Saturday over Texas A&M the way the Irish did gives them confidence that they can now go anywhere in the country and play with anyone fortunately for the Irish they won't have to do that for a while as four of the next five games will be played in the comfort of Notre Dame Stadium but the Irish have begun the year with a statement victory in a season where everyone is fighting for one of 12 precious playoff bids the Irish are currently one of three teams in the country with a win over a top 25 opponent reporting in College Station Texas Mar Notre Dame opens the year with a 2313 win I'm Pete burn wsbt22 Sports I'm Pete burn from wsbt22 news for more Notre D stories like And subscribe to the wsbt22 YouTube page thanks for watching
